This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I adored the first game. From the powerful characters to the strong and compelling narrative and the bond between Ellie and Joel. This game nowhere near lives up to the legacy of its predecessor, to say the least. This game has completely abandoned Ellie and Joel's bond by killing Joel in the crudest most disrespectful fashion imaginable. Joel's premature death was done for nothing more than shock value. On top of this, the game forces you to play with the character who killed the former beloved protagonist for half of the game. It just doesn't make any sense! The game in no way allows you to resonate with Abby's character prior to her irredeemable act which IMO prevents the player from caring about Abby's storyline at all. The game overall attempts to manipulate your emotions into revering Abby as the hero of the story through her flashbacks and sequences and making you resent Ellie, a character whom you have grown to love so very much from the first game.

Both Ellie and Abby's choices in the game felt so very out of character for both of them. What little character they did have in this game. The story does little to make you feel enthralled in their choices as more and more time passes they just kept getting more and more predictable. The decisions that Ellie made in the game clearly had a traumatizing effect on her (Certainly not a fan of how they handled any of the this). But Abby, on the other hand, felt no remorse for any of her actions and dismissed them all as if they meant nothing. Abby's quest for revenge was successful and yet seemed to have no effect on her, yet Ellie's left with her with nothing which is just weak writing and doesn't make sense. As I aforementioned they try to make you venerate Joel's murderer over Ellie so they leave Abby with everything and Ellie with nothing but pain and misery.

The ending is just goddamn absurd. Ellie spends all of this time, builds all of this effort, kills all of Abby's friends (including Mel who was pregnant regardless of self-defense), yet in the end, she couldn't bring herself to kill the one person responsible for Joel's murder. It just feels so vague and pointless at that point. The game's theme is shallow in comparison to the first game. I mean ending the cycle of revenge is just cliche and isn't portrayed properly in this game in general. None of this is what the first last of us represented. The first game offered a much more in-depth meaning that resonates with the player.

*Now some good parts to the game*

Graphics: These are some of the best graphics I have ever seen on the PS4 hardware and IMO is second to none. From the beautifully crafted environment to the attention of detail on each surface.

Music: While I feel the theme and atmosphere of the game were shallow you can't deny the beauty of the music in the game.

Gameplay: This game offers little to no innovation to the combat system or companion Ai. But it does however improve enemy AI dramatically. This games Ai's are able to flank change cover well etc.

Flashbacks: The game offers several flashbacks of Ellie and Joel's adventures subsequent to the first games ending. While taunting they were the only things left of what made the first game so great.

That's it for my review. This was incredibly hard for me to make as I completely venerated the first game. BUT I hope you understand my point of view.

    *Bad Parts*

Plot holes: Several inconsistencies to several characters

Characters: Characters in this game are poorly developed (some aren't even fully developed) and do not encompass everything necessary to be distinctive or interesting in any way to the player.

Character Development: All characters simply do not change throughout the story and remain static which shatters the Character's development in general.

    Ending: *Read above*

Let's get right into what the game got right. Right from the start you can tell that blood, sweat and tears were put into this game. Right from the start you can tell that blood, sweat and tears were put into this game. The game is absolutely stunning when it comes to its graphics and cutscenes. From little details like characters playing with their fingers, to nervously shaking their leg. The emotions characters can envoke through their facial expressions and live eye movements is incredible, something that I see a lot of games lack. The actors do a tremendous job in bringing these characters, old and new, to life in the game's cutscenes and conversations. The atmosphere can really be felt here in almost every area of the game. Even the smallest sound can make you quickly paranoid. Every footstep, glass smashed and shot fired sounds good. The soundtrack of the game is great, although dramatically underused. When it comes to gameplay, I feel like they have built upon it enough for it to be satisfying and fun for the most part. This game is meant to be played on Survival difficulty, if you really want to experience the desperateness of your every move and struggle for survival. Every shot missed is an opportunity lost. The scarcity of the resources make you cherish what you craft and how to best use it to your advantage. At times the choices have to be made quickly with no time to contemplate, adding to the experience.

Now come all the things the game has not done very well. Right of the bat the game decides to go in a direction that changes the atmosphere from then to the end. It never feels the same after the first few hours. The events that happen are not handled very well as the game doesn't let you sink your teeth back into the returning characters. The game mostly focuses on the new characters, dramatically, affecting the way you feel about returning ones at times. Even after knowing that the actors have done a great job some scenes and dialogue seem to fall flat at times. Not making sense, or doing and/or saying something totally out of character. You don't spend much time with the characters you would like to spend time with. Story doesn't seem to be as sharply written, and that really hits hard.

The back half of the game makes you play as this new character that I didn't care much about. Finding myself bored throughout the second half of the game. Although they introduce a handful of characters, I did not care for any of them as well as for the story they were telling. It turned into a game that I just wanted to be over and done with. Although, I do think that people that have never played the first game could find this game extremely fun from start to finish and enjoy the story. I see what they were trying to go for in this game, but it just did not hit the mark. For me, it's a one and done.

I am Russian and I am very far from the message of this game. I didn't understand the drama of the plot, I didn't understand the motivation of the characters. As I did not understand the prolonged boring gameplay. Good graphics, great animations, boring gameplay, AI has not changed since the first part, the plot is complete nonsense.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm about 15 hours into the game and the gameplay is GREAT, but the story seems a bit forced.... It's very unbelievable that Tommy (a bad ass ex firefly and Hitman that killed thousands of infected and militia) and Joel ("the madman" that killed thousands of people with ease and lived over 30 years in the apocalypse without much trouble) gets themselves killed from a handful of Wolf's... And alongside that, ellie had more than enough time to pull the trigger after opening the door. This all seems like it's forced upon the player to just accept it because it is what it is... And they wanted a revenge story that's not fitting to the story what so ever. I love the gameplay, I like the new characters, I don't mind the romance, buuuuuut it could have all happened with Joel.... The story just seems rushed, which is strange, because they had more than enough time to create one fitting to the first part. Call it a theory, but I would bet money on it that they had a different story and mid development they had/wanted to change it. I will continue to enjoy the game, but Mr. Niel should respect the fans that aren't gay bashing the game and accept our honest opinions! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My score is 6 for this game, because this is not BEST GAME EVER or WORST PS GAME EVER. First 12 hours shows Ellies revenge and after that we play as Ebby 10 hours... I think better play in turn as Ellie and Ebby. We understand motivation of both characters, but in the first fight of both charecters, I had questions - "What just happend? I've just played as Abby... and why?? Game needed showed only 1 hour for Abby and what she is going to do and other 25 hours gameplay as Ellie! Why??". Gameplay as Abby at the fifth hour became SO BORING. I didn't care about asian kids, but I understood, Neil wanted show, how Abby becaming better. I thought we will see something new... but we get **** by Naughty Dog. They added couple monsters and dogs... Ok new aim for bow it is that, what I've really like of new things. I replayed first part and after that completed second part and there is only 1 big difference is graphic. I waited for that final, what I thought. For me Joel revealed more selfish, end of first game is not right and Joel standed him. Main problem is, than you play and play, but you get bored and start play another game. I can say 1 thing - TLOU2 is boring game, but with right end. Expand

This game is, realistically, somewhere around the 5-8/10 level, depending on your personal preferences. To some it will be bitterly disappointing and to others it will tick many boxes. I think the reason people give it the extremely low scores is partly due to extremely high expectations, this has a lot to do with the previous game and the overall problem of 'hype' which leads to unhealthy high expectations and inevitable let down, they also feel like they were. at times, lied to. A lot of things in this game were misrepresented in the marketing and that is unfair to them. Personal i would give this game a 7.5/10.
It is dragged down primarily by the story structure, pacing and narrative as well as tired gameplay mechanics which aren't improved upon much when compared to tje first game. It is pushed up by visuals, sound design and representation and some (albeit not many) instances of good writing.
Ultimately i would wait till its on sale but its worth experiencing at some point just not at its released price point.

Please don't read if you haven't finished the game yet. SPOILERS BEGIN here on-wards.
    ---------------
I will write and tell my side of observation divided between different areas of the game, here goes:

    1. Gameplay:
The best physics I have seen in any game. The jumping was a little off, many of the times the blocks that were supposed to be climbed - looked like something to be climbed on.
Sprinting and crouching are some of the best in game business.
    2. Action
The gore in the game. OMG!!! The best. Tarantino, and South Korean blood splatters. The great b-grade cinematic when it comes to actions.
    3. Characters from Part I
Grown to become very mellow, you can feel their exhaustion. Love Tommy being the brave brother he is, a great supporting actor and the sniper he showers on Abby and Manny. Best boss fight.

    4. New Character
I am not sure if the writers did this intentionally or they were over confident with their skill, or thought of consumers stupid.

    5. Plot
Game of Thrones season 8! nothing more. What we loved about the previous part was the subtlety and consequential things happening to main character caused by a chain of other small incidents. Part II on other hand just throws in scenarios out of blue. Kills supporting character in a seconds to put some shock value, but I personally couldn't feel much for the character, no guilt or regret. The death of Sam and Henry in part 1 moved most of us. It was instant, yes. But it effected us.

Whereas, in Part II they make Jesse a likable character, Manny, a badass, and Mel a sweet fighter. But none of their death makes the player feel anything.

And my god The end. ooofff.... So much fight, struggle, pain and hate. for what? Na da! naught! You have no choice in either kill or let her go. If they let user decide this small part, like RDR 2 did with main character in the final chapter.. Things and ratings would have been very different.

I love the fights, the action, the mechanics. and as an IT person myself, the game mechanic are magnificent. But they fall prey to the GOT-8ish plot line.

    6. Acting
Loved every single scene joel was available in, Troy baker did great job with the voice of Joel miller. You can't help but still love Joel and Ellie's flaws and perfections. And my god Joel still a badass till the last breath he takes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like this game had left me torn, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be, and there are things to be enjoyed in this game overall. The atmosphere, environments, and music are beautiful, making this a solid game but where TLOU2 falls flat is with its story and its characters.

The game is centered around Ellie and Abby's quest for vengeance, and while we see Abby get hers we don't see Ellie get her own closure. Considering Naughty Dog's message I feel like Ellie should've killed Abby at the end but still lost the things she loved as a consequence of her actions.

For Abby, I feel Naughty Dog really wanted us to like her as a character by trying to humanize her especially with her inclusion with Lev. While I enjoyed their interactions, it would've been better to make her more of a flawed character. If Naughty Dog still wanted to uphold the message that "vengeance isn't the way" then I feel she could be a flawed character that does bad things, feels guilty about it but at the same time tries to do good things in order to redeem herself (ex. Having Lev escape Santa Barbara while she fights Ellie). However, that doesn't erase the actions she committed and in the end, as her actions would end up catching up with her.

If they wanted to make a message about vengeance then they should've had us kill Abby but made us realize that vengeance is only temporary closure and doesn't erase the pain, and loss that we have to feel because it doesn't bring the people we love back and that there are consequences to seeking for vengeance such as death and destroying the people you love around you.

I also feel this story lacks cohesiveness compared to the first and that is due to the constant backtracking we have to do in these flashbacks. If Naughty Dog were to make the events in TLOU2 go in chronological order, not only would that make the game longer but give us more moments between characters such as Ellie and Joel.

The Last of Us 2 tries to make a story about vengeance and how it has its consequences, but its resolution is unsatisfying. I believe as Ellie they should've shown more of her stages of grief with Joel, but also we should receive that resolution that both have made amends with one another about Joel's actions in the first game. However, the end of the game made me feel like we don't get any closure for Ellie's character nor we get any acceptance that Joel is truly gone leaving me empty and a bitter taste in my mouth.

Overall, I thought TLOU2 was a solid game but it falls flat with its the message and its storytelling that could use a couple of fixes. If Naughty Dog is planning to make a sequel, I'll be interested, but I'll probably not buy it.

They try to be 'deep' with this game, but didn't commit to the writing I doubt they ever questioned themselves. A good theory is the director and the writers were just ego struck, this type of thing happens a lot. Any competent or even amateur writer would have fixed these issues, I'm sure there were some inside issues within the company/development for basic writing techniques/rules not to be in the end product.

This game is above average game play wise, i was constantly on the edge of my seat in combat, fully emerged in the beautifully crafted world, but the story didn't do justice. Half the game seems like a DLC that no one asked for, and as a player who went in knowing nothing of the leaks or even trailers... I was so disappointed. I don't want to play as Abby after she kills Joel, which instantly made her the villain to me. The constant Abby = good Ellie = bad is borderline offensive. Abby pets dogs? Ellie kills them. Ellie kills a pregnant lady and instantly regrets and is mortified by her actions, while Abbys gets to say "good" to Dina's with a knife to her throat. And again, you want me to sympathize for these character. After all that they did, and all that their friends did. I don't care how sweet the Owen character is after i killed him 4 hours ago. I just don't care. The gameplay is good, so its above a 5. The original was a 10/10 in my opinion, and the lack of a good story here brings it down 4 points instead of the usual 1 for my reviews. execution left a lot to be desired, flashback scenes could've been better being actual playable non flashback scenes, i.e the flashback of the dance at seth's bar could've been at the start to make me feel for the new characters i would be spending a lot of time with.

really dissapointed, the last of us part 1 is my favourite game ever, with my favourite characters in any video game, i find myself daydreaming about joel and ellie and how they would react in certain scenarios or how they would be in the normal world, i'm really that invested.

Killing off your main character, the character people connect with and love is a mistake. Sorry for the Telltale walking dead spoiler, but killing Lee to play as cutsie Clementine was a mistake and killing Joel so Ellie takes stage is one too. It's not a anti feminist thing to keep your main character a man when there are women in the game. To be clear, despite those problems, it's not a bad story. It's quite good in some ways. But the direction was just way off for me personally.

The animation, voice acting, level design, and world they've created are amazing. Gameplay gets tedious and grueling, but I can deal with it. The only problem with the game is the story, but that's really its big pull. I don't know how they could get the original so right and the sequel so wrong. Also, I had no problem with any of the supposed "SJW" elements in the game. They didn't feel like a focus and didn't detract from the story.

Honestly, I'm not at all interested in the Last of Us' world anymore. I don't even think I would play a part 3, and I hope they don't make one. Maybe after the shock wears off I'll feel differently. I hope Naughty Dog licks their wounds and learns from their mistakes on this one. Lots of people love the direction the game's story took. I can only say I can't disagree more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After debating the score for a while now I’ve come to the conclusion that this game definitely deserves a six out of 10. Overall the gameplay, graphics, the performance by the characters, and music are superb and should be applauded for years to come. Unfortunately, the main purpose and drive of the story was very poorly executed. I can see where the developers are going in terms of what they wanted out of the story, but it just was not well thought out. The pacing was terrible and honestly the entire time I was playing after a big main characters death, it was just a drag to play. I felt depressed but also at the same time bored and not intrigued by what was happening in the storyline. What kept having me come back to the game was a game play because it was so good. I understand that you lose everything after revenge, but the way the story of revenge was organized felt pushed and non-deserved. There were also many points in a story There were also many points in a story where there was just to many things the gamer had to “believe in” in order to drive the storyline forward that made me scratch my head and think, this is what a writer who probably makes over a million dollars a year decided to mark into his/her script? Well, I hope in part 3, the story can be saved in some sort of way. Until then, this sequel has left a bad taste in my mouth. However, people should still play this game for the gameplay. It will be remembered for years to come. Expand

I think Naughty Dog spent too much time “empowering everyone” that they lost sight of that was important. This game stopped being The Last of Us halfway when the player is forced to play as Abby. No matter how much they tried I never cared for her story especially because of the plot structure. There are dozens of ways they could have made this a more compelling game but instead we got an absolute mess of a plot that has no meaning at all until the very end. I didn’t find the game terribly woke but the story itself is the major problem and ruined my memory of the franchise forever. Please don’t make another one. That plea extends to the HBO show too. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplaywise and all the other stuff (cinematics, animations, acting etc.) this game did everything better than part I. Practically perfect. Though I got to say that I had wished for weapon melee animations. Going from adsing to meleeing is far from fluid but that's a bit nitpicky.

What breaks this game for me are the characters and the story told. The story in and of itself is fine. As a standalone game I would've given it a 7 probably. The message of "revenge is bad" has been done a million times before and wasn't standing out too much from others imho, so definitely not a 10.

What makes this a 5 in my eyes then? Apart from weird and uncharacteristic character behaviour at parts and subpar pacing - it's the whole premiss and tone. It's the expectation I and many others had going into this story (I played through the game spoilerfree, currently on seattle day 1 of my 2nd playthrough - just wanted to throw that out before I forget). While TLOU1 had many heartwarming moments in a depressing world, showing the light of Joel's and Ellie's relationship in an endless sea of darkness, TLOU2 didn't offer such moments. At the end the game was 24h of pure depression and 1 hours of the beautiful museum flashback. People that were hoping to explore the relationship of Joel and Ellie were left hanging. Waiting 7 years for your favourite character to disappear right at the start of the story is a real mood killer. Telling the story through flashbacks and the eyes of the villain was a great idea but in my eyes poorly executed. For me personally it never clicked. The second I got to play as Abby, there was always this one though lingering in my mind: "You killed Joel, I don't care anymore." And making us play as and get to know Abby AFTERWARDS always felt forced. You knew right away what the intention of that bit was. Yes, people have different perspectices and in her mind she was justified. But making me like an unlikeable character when it was clear that I was just playing this whole 10 hour bit for this idea alone - to make me like her, to make me understand her. It just did not work out. I would've been much more sympathetic if I had got to know Abby beforehand. If I did not think of her action at the start of the game as IRREDEEMABLE!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us Part ll... Для нас The last of us - это история Джоэла и Элли! Expand

I give this game a 5 since the graphics are amazing and I like what they did with ellie and gave her a family but what they did to Joel was not good I wouldn't mind if he died later in the game because than we could at least see ellie and Joel's relationship grow ,also I think they should have made it shorter by not playing as abby and if we were to play as abby it would be cool to see at the end a plot twist and how she kills joel . And if they were to do the story normally they should of ended it at the farm but no they wanted ellie to go on a pointless journey and realise that what she was doing is wrong . Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished this overly divisive game today. Where to start, gameplay was well done little better than first game had some irritations with it but overall good.

    Gameplay stuff
    1. Had to turn off autoaim stuff cause it was fighting against me.

    2. Some of the gameplay designs like only being able to use weapons when the game said you could like couldn't pick up certain weapons etc... i found overly immersion breaking.

    3. The switching back and forth between Ellie and Abby was not all that fun because it happens so often. The equipment is different so you like being able to use Molotov's with Ellie and having a knife to do stealth kills all the time. {Mainly only had issues with not being able to stealth kill clickers with Abby unless i had shivs} which i find dumb like there are knives everywhere. and with Abby you have pipe bombs no Molotov's and i found them crap unless it was a boss but that's my opinion.
Overall i just found the jumping between characters and timelines irritating and the gameplay becomes a little boring after a while game should have been 5 hours or so shorter but that was mainly because of the timeline jumping around.
Plus story wasn't very compelling which made the length worse but we'll get to that in a sec.

Graphics are just WOW and the attention to detail was awesome too bad some of that didn't translate to story lol. I want this level of graphics in every game its pretty breathtaking little better than RDR2 but that's an open world game so it had to have compromises but Naughty dog focused every bit of smaller scale into graphics and detail and Oh my!! the GRASS lol.

Now for the STORY I overall hated it.
I find the first game a masterpiece on just story alone really didn't care to much for the gameplay but, the characters and the relationships they have will have you laughing your butt off and at times shedding tears. i don't have a child but saving Ellie at the end wasn't even a choice I was told the possible cure would kill her i was like ''Oh hell no!''.
I didn't play it at launch i got it for the ps4 so only needed to wait for part 2 for a few years and boy was it disappointing...

    --Spoilers--
Start up the game and it shows the ending of the last game and Joel telling Tommy what he did, what i did and your play as him for all of 3 mins which isn't a big deal i wanted Ellie to be the main character for this go around pick up as Ellie after the Joel sequence. walk around town learning a bit about the town and Jessie a new character his life is meaningless the writer kills him off abruptly 3/4 through the game after he finds out Dina the other new mostly pointless love interest for Ellie is pregnant. Yes Ellie is gay they'll make sure to not let you forget every chance they get {So well done in left behind} to now only character attributes are sexuality, wanting revenge, and being broken.

After a hour or so you start playing as Abby {Daughter of the doc you kill in first game} the new character and lead up to getting saved by Joel and Tommy. First thing Tommy does is tell random person both their names keep in mind they both know that some of the ppl they **** over might want revenge but who writes logic for overly smart characters right?!?

Then overly Cautious Characters head to where Abby's group are and get safe inside and Tommy and Joel both tell the whole armed group their names and where they stay and pow Joel gets killed like WTF!!!!!! so much for that false advertising of thinking it'll be an older Ellie and Joel game nah its Ellie and Abby's game a character i Hate and they try so hard for me to sympathize with hell no I know why she did it and i don't care i don't want to play as her but have to for 10ish hours and it all ends up with her losing most her friends to Ellie and Tommy and helping 2 scar sisters who are being hunted because one is trans and doesn't want to be a girl very progressive. Ellie runs into Abby again and Jessie dies and Tommy Gets what seems like bullet through the eye and Ellie begs for Abby to not kill Dina and the scar boy gives Abby a change of heart and they leave and Ellie lives on happily ever after...

Nah the Man[Tommy} has to come be an **** to Ellie and Dina and tear their family apart so Ellie goes to find Abby to killer her and Abby half dead and imprisoned Ellie frees her and wants to fight threatens the kid to get Abby to fight and they beat the **** out of each other and Ellie starts to drown her and flashback to Joel and she stops after 100s of dead ppl now is too much and Ellie is left with nothing Dina left and it ends all depressing. this games was made to subvert expectations and piss you off and it does just that I hate this game i have every right to do so for how the characters I love was treated. is about 6.5 overall but the fake 10/10 this thing is getting because ppl can't except that ppl hate what was done here. no game is a 10/10 and nearly no game is a 0-2/10
    Sorry for the Grammar.

But this game shows that life in a post apocalyptic world is not all ponies and roses, it’s a nightmare. It shows you that there’s a price to pay for revenge and the actions you take. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the fair rating for The Last Of Us 2 is 7 points. Since the plot really disappointed me, well, he doesn’t get to the right level of Naughty Dog. They can do better and we know that, we believe in them and will believe. Why score 7 points out of 10? 1. Graphics - this is not earthly delight for the eyes, I give it 9 out of 10. 2. The development of details, and very small details ... it's something wonderful, it's nice to look at it, the Naughty Dog team really tried and it shows, they are cool guys . I will put 10 out of 10 to this aspect. 3. Living characters. All characters of the game are living, and individuals, with their problems, experiences, characters and desires. You are not indifferent to anyone. This aspect deserves 10/10. 4. Game mechanics. This part of the game is also worked out beautifully, but there are some bugs, but everything is fixable. The most enjoyable mechanic for me is crafting items and playing the guitar. This aspect gets 8 points out of 10. 5. The plot. This is the most painful and weak point of the game, the loss of Joel ... Ellie did not take revenge on her father’s killer, but released her. Okay, let's say and imagine Ellie got what she wanted, killed Abby. I returned to my girlfriend Dina and her little son, and found that she was not at home and Dina disappeared with the baby, and here we would have penetrated Ally more than what happened in the original, because Ally had a family and love of her life, but her one act of revenge - erased all that was ... Ally is empty. Here we would have been more impressed with the character, but ... unfortunately, everything happened differently. Therefore, on this site such an assessment, it seems to me. But, in general, the game crumpled like so much ... that I do not perceive this work as a game, I perceive The Last Of Us more than a game - it is a whole story and life - the life of Ally and her adoptive father Joel. Game 7/10. This assessment will be fair. Expand

TLOU 2 takes the same route, a story old as ever, counted thousands of times, the classic tale of vengeance, and how it leads to bad things, the problem is that it doesn't do that in any new way, and it doesn't do it in a awesome way, it's the same as that film that you watch and maybe have fun, but it doesn't stick on your mind, it's fun while you're at it, and is just that, a game with awesome soundtracks and graphics, a good gameplay, and a average to Ok story with a feel very good characters (that are mainly from the first game)
If you're thinking of buying it, I would recommend waiting for a promo, since it don't have that much replayability, or if you want to play it because of the story, maybe think if you want to pay for it or just watch some series on youtube

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

As a fan of the original TLOU and a one who picked it as the game of the decade, this one here is not for TLOU fan. The story is not convincing, character building is weak, narrative is lazy and beside the fact that there were many lies in the trailers to make a selling point and the (critics) reviews are pure brainwashing attempts!

There were good acting moments but they were lost among the mess of the cinematics which couldn't be connected in a master class way as expected. I appreciate the game side and the efforts that had been put in, but I can't respect the story elements which is a vital part of TLOU and this is unfortunately disappointing...

Bottom line that it's a must have from the technical perspective, but definitely not as TLOU fan.

The relationships presented to us in the last of us part 2 are already established, with no back story for these new relationships and characters. The first one was basically only building relationships. The second one had a lot of meaningless death and brutality for no reason. Sure the graphics team, level designers, programmers, animators, sound designers, and many other artist and talented people did amazing job. When the game looks, plays and sounds this great it really shows what it lacks. And to me it was all the charm and magic of the first game. instead there was too much unnecessary gore and violence, forced narrative. Plot structure was all over the place. Some of the better parts were the flashbacks, but there was too many. And the swap of the characters halfway didn't make it for me. Shock value, yes, there was a lot of shocking twists, but none of real substance or importance to make me connect with new characters. And since most new characters died, it felt pointless in the end. I was asking myself, Why? And the ending perhaps most disappointing of the entire story. Well crafted game overall, but characters and plot severely lacking polish that you can find in other AAA titles. 6/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m not bashing the idea of killing off Joel, it was a good idea and a different theme from the first game. But they executed that idea very poorly and literally killed off the main character of the first game like he was nothing. How he died was a huge mistake and so was when. Everyone in the game, including ellie, felt like such a dreary and boring character. They killed everyone off as if they didn’t even matter so by the end of the game I was still wondering who Manny was. It felt so dull when Abby shot Jesse like he wasn’t the baby daddy of Dinas kid. What the hell Neil druckmann. It’s not even that it’s a bad game, overall the graphics are pretty good though there are a few glitches, it still irks me just how **** the storyline ended up being. 7 years of waiting for a hot pile of garbage. Though the game overall is nowhere near a 0, it definitely doesn’t deserve a 10/10. I’d give it a 6 for being such an average game. If you’re a fan of the last of us part 1, then the second game really shows just how bad the writers did on the second game compared. I almost wish they left it with the first one. Expand

Making Ellie seem like the villain (also makes you kill dogs while Abby plays fetch and can pet them) Kills off Jesse and somehow overpowers Tommy? Logic
Also Ellie lets her magically go off into the sunset with lev (who is cool) and Ellie loses everything!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Casual player review.

26h 12min, this was the time it took me to finish the game and I haven't even reached 100%, I only got 149 collectibles in my first game. And, to be honest, I have the feeling of "I don't know if I would play again". The game is not bad, but neither is it a masterpiece.

Like Uncharted 4, TLOU part II is a linear game that flirts with the exploration of extensive maps, only that there are not many open areas to explore (which is a shame). And Naughty Dog is to be congratulated, the strongest point of the game is the setting of the scene (which is stunning, by the way).

The mechanics are almost the same as the first title, with the added feature of lying on the ground and dodge. And speaking of changes, three different factions (WLF’s, Seraphites / Scars and Rattlers) were added and two new types of infected were introduced, the Shamblers and the Rat King. As you can see, there are few additions.

The developer sold the idea of individualizing the NPC, making them talk to each other, respond better to the player's actions and, when their allies died, shout each other's names. Except that they were not careful to at least change the appearance of the NPC even in the most closed scenarios, I had the feeling of killing triplets (which broke the feeling of immersion). Individualization was a nice idea, but it was not done well.

Something that I must make clear, with respect to gameplay and that hindered my experience, the game eventually made me dizzy (even changing accessibility and using motion sickness control), so I was forced to take a break of at least 30 min to return to play. Which breaks the fluidity of the gameplay. I say more, I only continued to play because of the curiosity to see the outcome.

It is a story shaped by violence, and I was literally guided by the feeling of anger. The game fed me with hatred and then tried to add the feeling of empathy (which it did not, the story fueled my hatred in a way that, when it tried to show me another perspective, I didn't care about anything).

Keep your expectations low, so that you can have a better gaming experience. TLOU part II was made for you to get into the character's skin, to feel what he feels, but it is a very subjective field and the narrative does not always reflect the feelings of the player and character. That was the biggest sin in the game.

To conclude, the game in general is fun. I, who really like exploring the scenery, was a good experience. But the outcome of that story (what kept me playing), in the eyes of a guy who loves the first game, was disappointing. If the game had given the choice of outcome, had given the player agency, it would have been a totally different experience.

At first, I was not very interested in playing The Last of Us 2 because I knew that I would not overcome the first part, after listening to so many rumors I decided to embark on the trip, to be very unsatisfied at the end. I had a feeling similar to that of the end of GOT, from my point of view the story is not the strength of the game, I was shocked that after playing with the protagonist, the game forces you to play with the antagonist, the development of the game is Forced to the point that the game becomes too long and boring, I expected a more satisfying ending after 40 hours invested but that is not the case with TLOU2. Joel's death seemed poorly executed, mainly because you only play a few minutes with him, that the whole game is an endless quest for revenge I consider it very poor and mediocre from a creative point of view. The positive is that I have to praise the technical part of the game, the level designs are fantastic, the setting, the music, you definitely feel immersed in that universe. The graphics are from another generation, exploration was my favorite part of the game and I have enjoyed the game, especially the fighting. In conclusion, TLOU2 does not go beyond the first part and leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the story and the characters, but it is not a bad game either. Final verdict: Average.

Story aside the gameplay is pretty good. I quite enjoyed the many different ways to approach the fights. You can sneak through and stealth kill everyone or you can run through guns blazing (at least until you run out of ammo).
One issue I did have was with searching for crafting items. Becomes very repetitive to open draws and cupboards to find enough supplies to make the items you need. At the same time this makes the game feel more realistic in the post-apocalyptic world so I can't complain too much.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is just as much Abby’s story as it is Ellie’s and that would be perfectly fine if I liked the character. So the game is for the most part a revenge story, during the very first chapter of the game Joel is literally beaten to death by Abby a former firefly while Ellie is forced to watch, thus all the interactions between Joel and Ellie are done through flashbacks. As a fan of the original game this is incredibly disappointing. Okay so I already knew from the first game that the people Joel and Ellie were killing were just like them in the sense that they were just trying to survive and they too had loved ones they were trying to protect this isn’t new information to me, so I really dislike that now they’re deciding to show the Firefly’s side and portray Ellie and Joel as the villains after they got me to care so much about them in the original. As for all the new characters that are introduced I just don’t care about any of them especially Abby so being forced to play as her for half of the game just isn’t fun. I don’t even like Abby’s back story I mean I know it would have been really predictable if it was somebody close to Marlene that sought revenge on Joel but the daughter of a random NPC from the first game is the one that vows revenge on Joel, I mean I didn’t even so much as know the lead surgeons name and yet his daughter is the one that kills Joel and is now the main playable character in the game. If they wanted me to care about Abby at all then maybe they should have told her story in chronological order maybe then I would have developed sympathy for her up until the point that she kills Joel but to have her just outright kill Joel from the onset with no explanation what so ever made it very difficult to sympathize with her. It all finally comes to an end with a fist fight between Abby and Ellie where Ellie decides at the very last minute to not kill Abby and lets her go even though she was relentless in killing every other person responsible for Joel’s death Abby is the only one she decides not to kill, if you believe Ellie would find forgiveness for Abby in the very moments that she’s trying to drown her then fine but I’m on the fence. Honestly I don’t think any of the ideas in this game are bad I just think they were executed poorly and if I had to rate this game from 1 to 10 I’d give it a 7. Almost everything about this game is amazing the gameplay, the graphics, the music the only real shortcoming is the story which is kind of ironic considering the story is what elevated the first game to be a masterpiece, out of all the things I imagined could go wrong with this sequel the story was the last place I thought Naughty Dog would drop the ball but there it is. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
