Brilliant animations, AI, voice acting, graphics, and gameplay. Unfortunately overshadowed and laid to waste by an awful story. They demonize the beloved characters from the first game and attempt to make you feel empathy for the new character who makes unarguably worse moral decisions. Such a waste of potential for the franchise.

I struggled to care about the second main character and while I respect the risk they took in this story I think the pacing ruins what could have been an enjoyable experience. The dialogue is far inferior to the first game and it's noticeable from the first moments. The subtext is very superficial and many of the lines are way too on the nose to be believable and the contrivances ruin the overall believability as well. I wanted to give this game a stronger score because I wanted to believe it isn't as bad as the hype made it seem but after playing it I wouldn't recommend it unless it was on a massive sale or skipping it entirely. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very well made game in terms of gameplay, animation, sound design and the beautiful environments you explore. However, being a game series heavily focused on story, the story has many elements that are good with effective writing, but many elements that are terrible and hard to ignore which ruin the experience as a whole. I went into this game knowing the hate but did not expect the extent of the hate to be completely valid. Joel's death is rushed into and makes his character go out in a way that is truly lazy and not like how his character would have acted as portrayed in the first game . Then, you play as Ellie on a revenge quest to kill Abby (the girl who killed Joel) for half the game. The other half you change to Abby and the game tries so hard to get players to sympathize with her character but in the worst ways. The group she sided with after her father died by Joel from the first game is the most brutal and savage group of people who shoot on sight any of Joel and Ellie's group members or anyone who opposes them. It was clear in the first game that Joel had no choice but to kill the Fireflies to save Ellie and the Fireflies were completely fine with killing a fourteen year old kid and forcing Joel to obey that command. This means that even the Fireflies who Abby was with are evil spirited as well. Killing Ellie, the one person who humanized Joel from the first game to save and vaccinate people like Abby and groups that kill anyone discriminately was obviously not worth it to Joel. After playing as Abby for 10 hours of this game I never once felt any remorse for her for killing Joel. She went though tough times but everyone does in this world. Furthermore, I'm not sure if it was the new writer on board with this game, Halley Gross, but the push for an LGBTQ+ agenda is atrocious. I'm aware that a ton of people had this problem and I first thought it was nitpicking and not as obvious as people were saying, but I was clearly wrong. None of what the game was supporting is the problem, it is how the game shoves it down player's throats. Ellie is gay and is dating a woman, which was clear from the first game and in itself is not the problem. The problem is the writing that accompanies it. Ellie constantly calls her lover babe and the game shows many making out/sex scenes between the two. Also, Abby looks like a man in a world where that would not be nearly feasible. There is a transgender boy/girl who has a dedicated chapter of the game explaining how it is troubling and we should feel bad. If anything, this should be insulting to those groups of people the writers are attempting to appeal to by how cliché and corny it all is. To sum up the review, this was not the sequel the fans deserved in any way. The writers even completely vilify Joel's actions at the end of the first game at the end of this game by saying he would have done all of it all over again if he was given the chance. Why would Joel ever want to do things differently when he traveled across the country to deliver a girl to a group of people that simply picked her up and walked 50 feet to the hospital where they pointed guns and threatened the one man who made it possible. All on top of the fact that they are going to kill her. Expand

It gives a strange feeling that the production team is carving flowers in **** The plot arrangement is full of malice and is obviously designed to make players angry and uncomfortable. This is also why this game can trigger so many zero-score negative reviews instead of just five or six-score reviews. I am quite skeptical of players who give this game a high score because they may have a severe people-pleasing personality. They cannot feel the malice behind the writing, readily accepting the negative emotions it brings and therefore believing that the game is a "masterpiece that inspires deep human emotions." They should really consider seeing a therapist.

P.S. the poor quality of the game has nothing to do with political correctness. It fails to move people because the storyline is not well crafted. Even if you replace every "politically correct" character with heterosexual white males, it won't change the fact that the storyline of this game is still bad. I’m a queer women yet I don’t like this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've waited 2,5 years to write this review. I still cannot forgive the writers for what they did.
They've absolutely destroyed the story of the game. I know TLOU1 had some story alterations before it was finally released, but at least that story made sense as a whole.

TLOU2's story doesn't make any sense. None whatsoever. Everything feels forced and has an agenda.

    Just a quick overview (spoilers):
    - Start the game where the previous one left off. Remember everything you've gone through to get here.
    - Immediately erase all of it. Joel walks into the most obvious trap ever and gets brutally murdered. Ellie has to watch him die.
    - Play a bit as Ellie and Dina, which all feels pointless, but at least we get to see the technical side of the game...
    - Play as Abby for HOURS, while we just want to walk her off a cliff. The writers know very well we don't care about her, but they think that forcefully playing as her for hours will change that. It won't.
    - Then there's not one but two confrontations between Ellie and Abby, and I remember shutting down my PS4 multiple times, trying to gather the courage to finish this section of the game.

Naughty Dog have created the smoothest and best looking game of the PS4 generation, and yet I feel completely disconnected while playing it. Maybe the writers will say: not every story is meant to have a good ending, you don't have to like it to enjoy the game. I agree. But I wasn't looking for a likable story. I was looking for an involving one that made sense, and that didn't force me to do things that make absolutely no sense every five minutes.

It just makes me think that Naughty Dog had no clou how good the story of TLOU1 was, maybe it just ended up like that by chance. Or maybe they were actually good story writers but got completely carried away in TLOU2. Either way, I wished I've never played TLOU2. I haven't touched the game in 2,5 years and I probably never will again. For anyone who ever played TLOU1 but not yet TLOU2: keep it that way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with the fact that I did not consider it necessary to announce The Last of Us Part 2, because the first game was a finished product. And when they announced the sequel, I was more indignant than happy, why? For what? unclear. But I flattered myself with hopes that there would be a conflict in the sequel, thanks to which Joel and Ellie would finally get closer and strengthen their relationship with each other, but "My expectations are My problems."
1 - Plot: If I start to paint the entire plot of this "Game", then according to my review it will be possible to write a thesis, so I will simply say that it is secondary and mediocre, does not chicken out and does not make you think about it, because I have already seen it all, in one form or another, "Revenge is bad", "On the path of revenge you dig two graves" "We must forgive" BLA - BLA-BLA. This is one of the most mediocre plots I've ever seen, REVENGE PLOT?! **** SERIOUSLY?! One gets the impression that Neil Druckman was inspired by the Killer's Creed series, and moreover, he cut off not one, but TWO FINGERS of Ellie! Brilliant! I can only highlight flashbacks with Joel, where you understand what a cool man this ****ing world has lost, I wanted to take revenge, even after the "brilliant" scenario moves, but the Genius didn't give me that.

2 - Characters: well, there's really nothing to say here, a crowd of absolutely flat, not anti-charismatic crutches who do not want to worry (Because they are not disclosed in any way), they are needed for one purpose, namely: "Ellie needs to kill someone." And to call pity on especially impressionable players. A few words about the star of this circus - Abby, this character caused dissonance with her appearance, fell like "Five crowns in **** well .. What can I say, Joel was exchanged too cheaply, her motivation as a character begins and ends at the beginning, when it's a script genius's mistake that smashed the head with a golf club to one of the most charismatic and recognizable characters in the gaming industry. Her personality still remains a mystery to me, I don’t understand what she is, she is absolutely not disclosed, the scenes “have pity on me” caused nothing but laughter and despondency (I was especially amused when this fool let Ellie go a second time ).

3 - Gameplay: A standard third-person shooter, only with dismemberment and stealth elements, I can’t say anything special about it, except for a moment of "calm" in large, but absolutely unnecessary locations, where, apart from collecting all sorts of **** for crafting, you need to decide "brilliant" riddles with ****ing boxes - Stuffy... Very stuffy. And all this is diluted with the most boring dialogues. The only thing I can praise the game for is the visuals, the developers squeezed everything out of the old PS 4 woman, the game looks gorgeous, and the staging. All. It’s a pity for the time and money spent, I completed the walkthrough simply because of the money that I paid for the game, maybe for people who play one game a year, this product will become a kind of revelation, but not for me. An average product, if the plot developed in the universe of this game, without touching the characters of the first part, then it would be less. But no, it's still **** because even as an independent product the game is average. I'm sorry that my expectations were not met (...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Part I is possibly my favorite video game ever, because of the story. The only one that has ever brought me to tears. I even spent $70 on the PS5 Part I remake... and I gladly traded in Part II to get it...

I bought Part II in 2020, even knowing of the 'Joel death scene' leaks. I had faith in Naughty Dog as a newer fan. Since then I've been married, raising a daughter, and moving on with life during Covid-19. I have attempted to love and understand this game's story for the past few years now and with thorough research and analysis of this product, my only and ultimate conclusion is that this game is absolute, social pandering, manipulative, narrative trash.

Story: I feel like the writers either did not understand what the vast majority of fans liked about their first game or they just made stupidly over-bold decisions in the name of "creativity". The narrative pacing and the constant jumping around timelines is way too exhausting. By time they were showing me the context of a previous scene hours ago, my emotional investment and focus had already moved on. Abby and her dad could have been a really cool concept, if it was implemented very differently. Killing off Joel was not the problem, it's how they handled it. It was done so disrespectfully and out of character for everyone involved. They attempt manipulate me into liking Abby, the most irredeemable and unlikable character I've quite possibly ever played in a video game. I can't think of many characters in all of media that I dislike more than Abby: replies "good" to the opportunity to kill an unconscious pregnant woman, engaging in an affair with a father to be, killing off her entire group of friends with little remorse, helping Lev because her life was saved while just prior she had no hesitation killing Joel immediately after he clearly saves her life from a zombie horde. I never liked her and I feel cheaply manipulated throughout this whole game having to play her. It wasn't done right whatsoever from a narrative perspective.

Technical: The only reason why I didn't give this game an absolute 0 is because of the rest of the team that actually gave me an awesome product that I did expect. They worked really hard, apparently too hard judging from the news of bad business practices by Naughty Dog. The visuals playing on the PS4 Pro were some of the best I've ever seen. The gameplay mechanics are definitely a welcomed upgrade and the expanded accessibility options allow me to fine-tune the controller for being disabled. I'm also appreciating this work which was transferred to the Part I Remake for PS5. The whole Seattle open-world section I was very impressed with. The guitar playing, animals, environments, sound effects, music, added violent realism: all quality driven and very welcomed.

This is primarily a story-driven video game. Without a compelling (and coherent) story, it is purposeless to produce, own, or play. In fact, after a while, I just stopped playing the story altogether and I only played the encounters. I've gone through it several, several times and I just can't anymore. It is so boring and bloated. I don't actually mind the slower pacing, but the timeline-jumping is like a schizophrenic teenager telling me an unrealistic story who has never stepped foot outside in the real world and tried to survive. Between Abby's body build that you'd mostly achieve on a meat-hoarding, testosterone diet while competing at the CrossFit games for years and pregnant Mel doing rope climbs on security patrol with a rifle and a backpack equipped, I don't think the people at Naughty Dog understand much about facts and reality. I could also tear up every other character in this game as a shell of their former self, or shallow, or morally atrocious while trying to be convinced otherwise, but that idea is just too exhausting because there's so much that went wrong here. I could expand upon the fact that every plot point only exists by pure, miraculous coincidence, but again, exhausting.

I really, really tried to like this game...

I actually hate this game and I wish it didn't exist. I am personally considering nothing past Part I as canon material. This game is irredeemable, narrative trash. So fitting, being released in 2020, I think...

It's basically structured in an annoying way that each session of the main quest is divided by a recollection of past events, where the gameplay gets very boring due to their interactive-fiction-esque nature. When it comes to the main quest, it's not always exciting either, for some of the looting-centric explorations and combat encounters are separated entirely...

Overall, the game has very interesting gameplay mechanics, but this strongest suit of it is wasted due to the pacing issues caused by the poor story itself, and its decision to introduce Abby as another playable character is so wrong, not only because story-wise, players cannot relate to her, but also because by the time of Abby's main quest kicks in, the game will have dragged far too long and hence there comes a strong sense of repetition.

The story feels almost forced, like they only made this game because they have to. Second in an absolutely beautiful world with outstanding visuals the world feels shallow. Let's take npc characters for starters, in most modern games if I'm in an area littered with npcs then they tend to interact with me or acknowledge that I exist in the world, but not this game. You never feel like you are part of the world unless it is a triggered event that is designed to push the story further. Also in the first game you really could relate to the characters and the decisions they make because it was always calculated and thought out and this time around those same people are just careless idiots. Also everything just happens to be too convenient like a cheap movie. Then we also take the lack of a multi player mode and how this game just lacks all the heart and soul that you found in the original Last of Us and I feel that this game does deserve all the hate that it is receiving. Then they hop to the other character and flashback to show you the dog you killed was so special. It really feels like the director is trying to scream at you "FEEL BAD NOW PUPPET!" There is no natural interactions to make you feel much of anything in this game it is all contrived and poorly presented fluff emotions. It feels like watching a garbage sitcom without the laugh track, without some external force trying to MAKE you feel a certain way it is boring and dull.

The whole Joel thing is pointless and just for the reaction because they wanted to try and force the player to more engage with the game emotionally. It not only does not work it undoes all the growth as a character that Joel did in the first game, while simultaneously having him go against his whole character and being WAY to trusting for no reason at all other than PLOT SAYS TO TRUST!

I will give them 1 point for mostly keeping the combat of the 7 year old game they put the skin of on this hot mess of a game.

Both were established and beloved game series that were hijacked for political purposes. The writing in both also feels too contemporary too. In the LOU2 there is a line about bigot sandwiches. I just feel that a zombie apocalypse is a really poor setting for these political messages. In an apocalypse people should be concerned with food, shelter and zombies... not "bigot sandwiches." In many ways it feels like a strange continuation. Also how buff Abby was very strange. That body type is very hard to attain and probably impossible to attain in an food scarce apocalypse. Overall this game feels like such a strange way to continue the story, certain political aspects feel forced which to me makes it feel like propaganda. The game completely destroyed Ellie and Joel's personality from TLOU1. If it was only a new story with new characters would be ok at best. Too many flashbacks and shallow plot twists. What can I say that hasn't already been said about TLOU2?

I'll begin my review with a positive statement: I LOVED The Last of Us (Part 1). Everything about that game resonated with me on every tangible level. It was a tour de force. It was Naughty Dog's magnum opus. It was everyone's Game of the Year for 2013. I played the game on PS3 and then again on PS4 - twice in fact (my first playthrough, then a New Game Plus playthrough). What more needs to be said? I really, REALLY LOVED The Last of Us. Everything - from the characters, to the story, to the gameplay - and when I reached the ending, I felt something that no other game had quite made me feel before. In every sense of the word, The Last of Us is an exceptionally excellent masterpiece. And that is why it pains me to talk about The Last of Us Part 2.

After all the hype, the information spiels and red herrings, The Last of Us Part 2 is the second biggest let-down of 2020 (the biggest let-down of 2020 being Cyberpunk 2077). I knew fully well that the story would encompass the theme of 'Hate' to contrast the original game's theme of 'Love' - I thought that it would be interesting and might pay off in some way - but in truth, I never could have predicted how epically disappointing it would be.

I don't know what happened, but Naughty Dog took the theme of 'hate' and ran with it into 'uncharted' (pun intended) territory to a degree that made TLOU2's narrative grossly unlikeable and managed to alienate their fans. If anything, Naughty Dog took things WAY TOO FAR.

It was in the first 3 hours that Naughty Dog did the UNTHINKABLE IN A DISAPPOINTINGLY BAD WAY. I won't say what, but I was left feeling shocked, mortified, and simply insulted by such a blatantly BAD narrative decision that spits in the eyes of fans of the original TLOU and adds insult to injury in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. It was after this moment that I simply lost the will to continue playing TLOU2, but I somehow managed - even though I deeply regretted every moment of it.

I can't talk about Joel (hint, hint), but I can talk about Ellie, and in all honesty I don't like how her character has changed since the first game. At the end of TLOU (and even at the beginning of TLOU2) Ellie is still relatively bright, despite her experiences. Right off the bat at the start of TLOU2, Ellie is UNLIKEABLE in every way - even going as far as to distance herself and not talk to Joel, not to mention being downright depressing. After THAT moment she just gets worse to the point where I didn't even recognise her at all.

Another issue is how TLOU2 ham-fistedly integrated political and social statements about LGBTQ aspects into it's narrative - so much so that I felt I was playing less of a videogame and more of a manifesto (to clarify I completely respect all LGBTQ rights and ideals). My point is is that the game could've integrated these aspects better and with more subtlety - instead the game chose to jump on the band wagon of woke culture by making these narrative elements OBVIOUS, even to the detriment of an already appalling story.

Another major negative is how the writers (Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross) handled the themes of 'hate' and 'grief'. Ellie is so hateful, even to the point where she doesn't think about the consequences of actions - a fact that Abby, the game's secondary protagonist and primary antagonist, is also guilty of. Throughout the story, things happen that SHOULDN'T happen. In actuality TLOU2's story is SO hateful, it turns the whole game into a TOXIC EXPERIENCE (do not mistake this with emotional catharsis).

I don't know where it all went so wrong (I actually think I just quoted one of the characters from the game), but Druckmann's nihilism got the better of him - (Halley) Gross' mentioning of the fact that she tapped into her personal experiences with PTSD while writing the story didn't help matters much either.

In terms of gameplay, TLOU2 moves things forward slightly. Yes, I'll praise the graphics and the animations, but all of that doesn't matter when the main story driving everything forward is so toxic and unlikeable (it actually makes playing the game a chore to see how horribly the plot moves forward). In actuality, TLOU2's gameplay feels more like an obligation instead of something lovingly and professionally crafted (unlike Naughty Dog's previous efforts). Gunplay feels sluggish, imprecise, and simply, not very fun, turning most firefights into frustrating ordeals. I remember aiming at a thug who was barely 5 metres from me and even with the reticule trained squarely and accurately on his head, I still managed to miss him somehow(!). Another nuisance is that Ellie can be stunned or easily knocked over which just further compounds my issues with TLOU2.

I don't know how TLOU2 won GOTY 2020 last year. It simply is a BAD GAME and a HORRIBLE SEQUEL that does things that no-one asked for. The only comparison I can think of is the recent Star Wars trilogy.

But the storyline decisions are horrible in many ways, such as the forced political and ideologic propaganda in this game. I believe that the purpose of the games are far from disseminate ideology X or Y (and that includes BOTH sides, left or right), and mostly when you are making a sequence. Choosing to disrespect the game story and distort it to satisfy some ideological propaganda was the worst decision ND made, because overall, games shouldn't be used for that purpose, and the way the story was heavily distorted and characters such as Joel were completely disrespected is a spit on the game fanbase's face in order to satisfy X or Y ideological/political group, when games should never be used for that sort of purpose.

If you want to play for the gameplay and the graphics and don't really care about the distortion made in the storyline with this sequence then you'll love TLOU Part II, but if you do care about the story and like me, don't appreciate political/ideological **** forced in your gameplay then you're better off playing some other game that did not surrender to that.

    My Score:
The Game is a story, the gameplay and graphics are mere tools to tell it. If graphics were that important then minecraft wouldn't be even known by anyone and would be called trash, which is not the case. Graphics are important, but many amazing games we played in the past are still amazing even with their old graphics. So from what really matters, the story, i can give a solid zero to this game, that as i pointed many times, has chosen to inser something that don't belong to the game world: Politics and Ideology. If you want to disseminate your ideological thoughts go right ahead with a brand new game, with a official note, with a twitter post, who cares, but don't mess with my game to do that.

Now first off I would like to say that none of the negative press, leaks, or even the opinions of others has or had an effect on how I see view this game. as side note however, while I like the first Last of Us a lot I wouldn't say it's a master piece and isn't even in my top ten favorite games so I wasn't on the hype train for this game. I only finally decided to get and play this game after a friend of mine said I could borrow his copy. It should have been a red flag for me seeing that he himself said "he was more interested in playing FF7 now" which I let him borrow from me. He's more the Last Of Us fan than I am for haven sake! Sorry for tangent. Also I will not write any spoilers for this game just because of principle so do not worry.

First off, about first 9.5 hours of this game might be the best start to any game I have played on the Ps4. Seriously it had it all; action, drama, and the feels. It was like experiencing Game of Thrones season 1 all over again. It honestly it even renewed my interest to play first game after beating this one. Also the cut-scenes and game models are truly stealer and gives me hope for what will come out of Naughty-Dog next. So your probably wondering if I had that much fun and excitement from this game up to this point why am I giving it a 3/10? Well It was at the moment that you probably already know now that is the most controversial part of this game, I mean I get why they did and why it's a bold move. Other games have done similar stuff in the past but for some reason the scene left me with nothing but rage, disappointment, and being dumbfounded at the situation of the scene itself. After that scene for me it only seemed to go downhill and was only somewhat back to sprites after a few more scenes of Ellie and her partner (fyi I'm part of the LGBT and I have no problems with LGBT characters, so no I'm not just some dummy who hates gay peolpe) but even those got dry. Than it happened the change of character, it was at this point I know I would hate this game with a passion. They tried to justify some of the choices of this said character and what she did but it only did nothing but fortify my anger and even made me feel more dumbstruck at the idea of this being game passing Naughty-Dog's quality inspection. Didn't anyone try to stop the development and go "maybe this could be done better"? Now after countless now boring repetitive fights, uninspiring missions, and character switching I finally was approaching the end of the game. Now I was going to forgive this games past sins if the ending was executed in a ways that was both fulfilling and brought this to an end with a nice bow on top. However this game found a way to both make the ending feel generic and yet so unsatisfying that even contemplated buying this copy from my friend s I can only smash it and throw it away. For real!!!! This might be the worse ending that I have experienced with a triple. Worse than Mass Effect 3 in fact! Finally after all that I was done, just me in my room seething at what I just witnessed. The cliffhanger even felt not needed at all!

With all this said and done I really can't recommend this at full price. I would say $35 is a more fitting price for a game like this. I'm more upset at the waste of potential this game could have been, I didn't even love the Last of Us and even I felt this was a poor excuse of a follow up. I now know why so many fans are angry. I guess I will take a page from my friend and play another game like Horizon Zero Dawn or something else that truly give a good female character and a good story to boot. Buy the game if you want but be warned, I'm just glad my money never went to this game.

What a total difference in feeling while you are playing this game. I don't even want to finish it. Such a waste of a good start on the original. :(

this game has been DCMA , censorred, scores manipulated, blocked by "paid for critic", the fans have been treated miserably....and has been given all the games awards in the planet

this has been a huge 2 fingers from the press, developers, company, sony, to the fans, to impose their fake "morality and social justice".....

I really wanted to enjoy this game but I couldn't. The game force you to watch a character you loved in the first game get murdered TWICE for stupid reasons and then make you play the murderer for almost half the game. The plot points that bring you to this situation are badly written and characters don't act like themselves. The whole story feels utterly nihilistic and bleak. Most people who enjoyed the first game enjoyed it for it's story because the game is set like a movie: you don't have player's choice or consequences for how you play the game: It's a ride set on rails from point A to point B. And like in a movie, the most important thing is it's story. Who care if the game looks great, good graphics don't last: Who remember the game The order: 1886???? It had great graphics too! :P Expand

Worst sequel to a beloved game, horrible writing, horrible characters, horrible story..
the graphics and animations are amazing but brought to nothing with the horrible direction.
massive fan of TLOU 1, but this is complete garbage writing/directing

In short, despite its phenomenal gameplay and graphics, as a story-driven game, it is a big failure. It failed to build up connection between the player and the new characters. It did not respect the beloved and well-developed characters of the original game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You may or may not have realized it by now, but Druckman was pushing his agenda heavily from the very start. The only reason TLOU1 succeeded was because he got lucky and made the story ambiguous enough for everyone else to fill in the gaps with a more appropriate interpretation of his story.

First off, I bet most of you never realized this, but even in the first game, there's a heavy skew in the gender representation, pushing the idea that female=good/competent, male=bad/selfish/controlling. Tess is the boss of Joel, and no matter what evil crap she may have done in the past, she gets a proper redemption arc, sacrificing herself to give Joel a shot at delivering Ellie to the Fireflies and "save humanity". Marlene is the leader of the Fireflies, the one beacon of hope for humanity. Maria is the leader of the only properly-functioning settlement and Tommy makes damn sure we understand that "she is in charge". Every other woman/girl in this story is at least strong, competent and likable.

    How about the male characters?

Joel is a jaded selfish sociopath, ex hunter and a veteran thug.

Tommy is a weak little man who followed Joel footsteps regardless of what his moral code dictated, ended up joining the fireflies but left the group later and retired happily as Maria's subordinate husband.

Bill is a nut-job angry loner, and after redeeming himself for helping out our duo, we figure out he's gay and that his partner hung himself after attempting to abandon him.

Henry is an uptight spineless control freak who scolded his little brother every time the poor kid enjoyed himself and who abandoned our protagonists when things got heavy. Killed himself immediately like a coward after executing (infected)Sam.

David (the only other leader of a group) is a pedo cannibal freak.

None of this takes away from the story of course, but it's kinda funny to notice now in retrospect.

In a silly attempt at subverting people's expectations (even in the first game) Druckman tried desperately to portray Joel's actions as selfish and self-indulging, while ignoring his own plot holes and poorly developed lore that led people to interpret the story differently. We mistakenly took a badly written plot of how the fireflies were going to save humanity and create a vaccine as proof of their incompetence. The rushed scenes at the hospital and the weakly developed firefly storyline gave everyone the impression that Joel has every justification to save Ellie from these clowns and kill everyone who stands in his way.

Druckman expected everyone to hate Joel for what he did, and the ending was suppose to weigh heavily on us. Instead, people cheered their escape and just felt a bit sad for having to lie to Ellie about what really happened. Nothing about Joel's actions screamed "evil man", but rather "broken father who couldn't bare to lose another daughter at the hands of some jack-holes who want to cut her head open and kill her in an attempt to develop a vaccine".

I'm sorry to say this guys, but it's all **** Druckman might be the luckiest **** ever. His failure to deliver the intended narrative actually elevated the story's quality, making his agenda driven little project one of the most famous games in gaming history.

This is just my theory, and I bet it's the reason why he doubled down in Part 2 to make sure we ALL UNDERSTAND that Ellie wanted to die in that hospital, that what Joel did was evil and twisted. For me at least, it all makes sense now. TLOU Part 2 is Druckman's pet project to set things straight and punish all of us who "didn't get it".

I was very disappointed in the story. It just doesn’t make sense. I don’t believe the characters would make the decisions they did.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
