    The story feel forced down your throat. The amount of leftist political correctness is outrageous in this game that I can only give 1 score because gameplay and graphic are great and I feel bad for the developers that devoted their time and soul to make it but it couldn't help carry the bad writing of the game.

    There is a great game play, the graphics are amazing but obviously if the story is crap, if you disrespect the characters of Part 1, kill the main character and then play as it's murderer?!

    It's a real shame, but naughty dog simply ruined all the tremendous job they did at technical level with a low-quality plot, flat characters, unnecessary "political messages" and boring storytelling overall.
    The game s graphics are terrific, gameplay's ok, but the strength of this game was the vibes, the evolution of characters, the feelings we could experience in tlou1.

If you make bad gameplay people can criticize it. Gamers are not against lesbians look at score for 1st game. Create a bad work of propaganda put in some identity stuff and then when you are criticized for creating ineffective art you can just say your critics are criticizing the work because of the identity issues. What a failsafe plan. It is possible for woke people to make a woke game that is bad woke doesn't guarantee a good game. It is possible for a sequel to be worse than original in fact that is often the case. People don't like this game because of the story destroying what they loved in the first game. Wokeness has nothing to do with it because the first game was woke too. Stephen King wrote some terrible novels some of them sequels as well.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. - Gameplay is pretty solid. Visuals are stunning, and are as good as they'll get for the farewell of this console gen. The setting itself is well developed, and a continuously bleak one.
    - Characters and Plotline are pretty much **** though.
    - Trailers intentionally mislead the audience, by using wrong character models for Joel. Dude dies 2 hours into the game, and is mostly seen through flashbacks.
    - Joel and Ellie break character to get the plot rolling.
    - New protagonist is **** Like the MGS2 twist but you play as a Johnny ****-my-Pants who just killed of Solid Snake and is wholly unlikable.
    - Did I mention how the game attempts to vilify the previous protagonists beyond belief, while shoving their new one down your throat?
    - God the sex scene, what in gods name.

    All in all, extremely disappointing, cannot recommend, especially if you're a fan of the first game.
    It's like they carefully analyzed all the reasons folks liked the first game and said, "Lets do the opposite of that, it sure will be subversive and thought provoking!".    … Expand

    TLOU 2 hade a great potential, but how we see, all was lost with primitive idea to make this game all about vengeance. Actually , if writers made step forward in the research of immunity (immunity from disease often can be not for all time of living of person) we could get a beautiful story about how man who betrayed the world in first game lost everything because of tragic irony in this game. If script writers was thought more in this direction, now we could have something more then just Walking Dead parody, we can have really dramatic story about payback not from anonymous new character, but from biologic issues of Ellie's immunity.
    And most sadness part of this situation, that ND can
    relieve themselves of responsibility for poor ratings, stigmatize all those who are unhappy by the game as homophobes or sexists, and hide behind the LGBT + community (to which I belong).

I don't mind you want to have politically correct content in the game, but I don't want it overflows everywhere. Good job to ruin your one of the best franchises.

    As an enormous fan of the original game, I felt spurred on to create an account on here and write a review after the ridiculous critic scores that were listed for this game. A perfect 100/100 game should not exist and the readiness of these professional "critics" to throw so many perfect scores on this game is an utter disgrace to the industry and is shameful.     To start with the positives from this game: the graphics are beautiful and the soundtracks are spot on. That's it, short and sweet. Now on to the negatives.

    The gameplay has not been expanded upon at all from the original. In fact, in some instances I would argue that it actually feels clunkier than the original to play. My toaster could probably generate AI that functions more intelligently and realistically than some of the enemies in TLU2. It gets VERY repetitive and this would kill any joy you would get from potentially replaying the game.

    Not that you would want to replay the game, if you were a fan of the original. The story is horrendous. None of the characters in this game have any likeable or redeemable qualities whatsoever. Joel and Ellie's personalities are gone, they are literally husks of their former selves. Joel's treatment in particular is awful. His intelligent, cautious survivor's mentality is completely gone and he now openly trusts everyone and doesn't question anything during his painfully short stint in the game. After Joel's treatment, playing as the utterly unlikable Abby for a massive chunk of the game leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth.

    Not only do the characters suck, the plot is appallingly bad and full of holes. It feels like very little attention has been paid to detail or to continuity from the original game. It feels like no love has been put into the story whatsoever and that the developers thought that this could be patched over with ridiculously brutal, over the top violence and "woke" social stances.

    And I think this is what frustrates me the most about this game. it feels as though this game hasn't been developed for entertainment, but to force an agenda into your face under the guise of a video game. Sony have openly criticised (wrongly) games for being overly sexualised and have taken steps to actively censor them, but having a trans-lady being pegged in graphic detail for 2 minutes in 4k HD is apparently fine and to point out this blatant hypocrisy makes one a transphobe.

    With all of the leaks and the controversy surrounding this game prior to launch, the false use of DMCA to silence any negative or critical opinion that was expressed online and the exorbitant critic reviews, it feels as though the industry has slapped you in the face with a piece of garbage and told you that you have to enjoy it. The people who have been complicit in this farce should be absolutely ashamed of themselves as they clearly have no integrity whatsoever.

    If you didn't play the original or if you weren't a fan of the original, this game is probably a 3-4 as it could scrape those numbers with AAA graphics and average gameplay. If you took any enjoyment at all from the original game, this is a solid 0 and you should save your money and stay well clear of it!    … Expand

With every stupid decision they made, I thought that maybe the revenge plotline would somehow make up for it, but the plotline’s ending just made everything worse. I know the graphics are great and you loved the first game, but this game series just isn’t what it used to be and you’ll only be disappointed by playing it. My advice is that you just pretend that the game matches how well-made the trailer made it seem, or completely forget this game exists at all and play the first one.… Expand

    this is nothing but pandering to Woko Haram. One of the protagonists has larger muscles than any female heavy lifting Olympic Champions. If you are very progressive, you will love this game. If you are not part of that 2-3% of the population, you will be pissed you wasted your money on this crap. Jugue este TLOU 2 con toda la ilusión del mundo, para mi significaba muchísimo, y sinceramente no me importa el tema de las lesbianas porque no son el centro de la historia ademas Ellie siempre fue lesbiana, lo importante es el paradigma de la venganza. La jugabilidad es bastante buena muy parecida a la del primero pero refinada como es lógico al ser una continuación, el gore es exquisito casi perfecto diría yo. Mi problema con el juego viene en el apartado de la historia este punto es el mas importante en un juego de este tipo y es el más descuidado en el caso de TLOU no me importa que mataran a Joel ni siquiera me importa que metieran de una manera tan forzada a Abby pero después de construirme durante aproximadamente 22 horas a un personaje que este personaje mate como a 500 personas para al final arrepentirse porque "se dio cuenta que la venganza no es buena " no solo es estúpido si no que no tiene ningún tipo de sentido y es injustificable, esto sin contar la cantidad infinita de recursos narrativos de clase de escritura 1, como que cada vez que quieren cambiar de escena alguien es golpeado en la cabeza eso pasa como 25 veces en el juego, obligarme a jugar la mitad del juego con Abby y la mitad con Ellie es horrible para el ritmo hubiese sido 1000 veces mejor intercalar a los personajes para no tener la sensación de estar jugando lo mismo 2 veces aunque te cuenten otro punto de vista, y aunque no lo he leído en criticas aún me da la sensación de que la verdadera protagonista del juego es Abby no Ellie pero fueron cobardes y no terminaron de saltar con todo a esa idea.

    El final es un sin sentido anticlimatico no compren este juego a precio completo si tienen el mas mínimo cariño por el guion de los juegos, adquiéranlo cuando este en 20 - 30 dolares decepción total esta mierda.    … Expand

    Disappointed to say the least. The graphics and gameplay mechanics are beautiful, but are sadly overlooked because of the nonsensical storyline. As far as I'm concerned, this game is non-canon. Sad.

    Poor writing, terrible character development, enough plot holes to genuinely terrify anyone with trypophobia, extremely shady developer practices and forced dialogue makes this game a massive letdown in my books. Also, there are people giving this game false 10 scores, dismissing anyone who left a negative review as a "troll who has never played the game". Avoid this title.

    It's hard to give this game anything above 0. Sure, the graphics, sounds, animation are very good, but that stuff shouldn't count as 'pros'. That's the stuff that's expected from a game that took 7 yrs to make in this generation. You should judge this game on its gameplay and story. Gameplay is fine. But if you buy this game for the gameplay, there's tons of games that are way more funIt's hard to give this game anything above 0.     I wish all these mass media ratings could refund my purchase of this game since they helped push me to preorder. I hated this story. I loved the first game but this sequel is complete garbage. I can’t recall hating elements of the story and character actions in any other game as much as in this one. Feel bad even trying to resell it to someone online.

    Terrible story line that abruptly ends. Just as long as the first game in my experience and it shoves SJW crap down your throat. I wanted to give this game a fair shake, but please don’t waste your money like I did.

    This game is problematic on a number of levels:

    First, the 60 dollar price tag is not warranted at all- the game has no multiplayer, and although I understand this is a story driven game, TLOU's multiplayer was what made the first game replayable and added weight to the price point. Here, there is only a 25hr story which doesn't even permit a second playthrough because it is so bad.    This game is problematic on a number of levels:

Here, there is only a 25hr story which doesn't even permit a second playthrough because it is so bad.

    The story itself is hideous. Joel is the central character in the first game and the concept of bringing Ellie to the forefront this time around is interesting. But to have Joel die in the first couple hours of the game to a "villain" of sorts who isn't even portrayed as a villain per-say is irritating and disgraceful. There is no continued development between Joel and Ellie in the time he is alive, which is another point of notice- the characters, their relationships and developments are all poorly designed. Ellie is not the Ellie you knew, the new characters are bland and unsatisfactory, and their arcs are incredibly generic. This is all a consequence of piss-poor writing and it leads to a terrible thematic lesson that is driven into your face the entire game: "Revenge is bad". What is even worse is not that these sentiments are already known and have been expressed in other mediums long before, it's that this resolution is explicitly just that: that revenge is bad. There is no depth here, no greater meaning, nothing to attain. Moreso, this elementary lesson is not even grasped by Ellie until the very end of the game, just as she is about to kill Abby. Ellie has literally killed hundreds in this pursuit of "justice" yet coincidentally, God has enlightened her with moral righteousness right before she deals the killing blow to Abby. This doesn't make sense at all, yet neither does the countless other decisions made by characters in this game.

    This is not to say there aren't intriguing elements to the story. The issue is it all entirely backpedals from the first game. These so called "bold" decisions aren't bold, they're destructive. If I liked the first game for x, y, and z reasons, why on earth would you disregard those elements this time around? People want to play the sequel because of the first game. The thing that Naughty Dog and other storytellers who have made such a mistake (Rian Johnson for instance) fail to grasp is that the stories you are continuing already have a solid foundation that people like for these x, y, and z reasons. You can make "bold" decisions without destroying the legacy the previous installments laid out. Frankly, it can be said that TLOU2 would be very good game had it been a standalone title. The issue here is it is not, and thus there is something to uphold (being the first game). And it does not do that at all.

    I'll refrain from discussing other aspects of the game because even though the gameplay and mechanics aren't particularly great either, the primary issue of this game in my eyes is the story, and by far. And all this fault is put on Neil Druckmann. The fact that this is Druckmann's first game on his "own" without the support of Straley (and of course Henning, whom was the real factor of Naughty Dog's prior successes), it is clear the guy has no creative talent and storytelling genius. His co-director and the game's designers are evidently poor pieces as well. I foresee only downfall for what is left of this team.    … Expand

    The story is bleak. The gore is ubiquitous. It has unlikable characters. The story is like some sort of snuff film, filled with revenge porn and a gratuitous sex scene. And it's got plot holes, much like a golf course has holes.

    The graphics were pleasing, 8/10.

But the ending was a joke. There is no depth to this story. It is shallow and petty and completely ludicrous.

    The gameplay is average. It feels dated for a 2020 game. AI is barely improved and the linear level design gets old fast. Often I would slog through the stealth sections and firefights just to get to the next cutscene.

    The audio and visuals are incredible. Stellar, the best I've ever seen on a game.

    Story - 1/10
    Gameplay - 6/10
    Graphics - 9/10

    Because the story is the selling point of this game, and because this game catastrophically fails to deliver, I can not justify giving this game any higher than a 2/10.

    All the new characters in part 2 dont make me feel attachted to them. It seems that they r just there for an event or plot twist and then they are discarded. This game wanted to be know as the most dramatic as possible and made terrible writing plot.

How can we skip Joel’s rampage and eventual path to safety??? And jump straight into playing damn snowball fights and a stupid virtual guitar. The biggest problem I have with the game is the story of the game. First with Joel's death happening after only the first 2 hours of the game by a character you play with through the game along side ellie. Everytime I played with abbie it makes me feel like turning off the game and never playing this game again. The story for this game is trash. If I had a chance for a refund I would definitely get one and not support naughtydog and specially neil druckman for making disasterpeice of a game. Dont buy this game… Expand

Other than visual improvement, the story itself is bad from beginning to end. Game is disturbing and tedious. Pace is slow and lengthy. Not worth the time and money. AVOID AT ALL COST.

I don't usually review games in general on any forum - thus this being my first Metacritic review - some will claim "review bomb" but this is not the case, please hear me out.     I've spent a lot of time contemplating a review of this particular game. I don't usually review games in general on any forum - thus this being my first Metacritic review - some will claim "review bomb" but this is not the case, please hear me out.

    The first installment of this game was a masterpiece, it featured lovable characters that many people (including myself) became attached to, just as in other games like Tomb Raider, but with the added emotional character attachment that oft doesn't develop, or at least not on such a deep level in video games. Along with the great narrative and exciting adventure that made TLoU so great.

    When I heard ND was making a TLoU2 I was excited to continue this adventure with the beloved characters I had become emotionally attached to, however this game took a turn for the worse early in my playthrough as the series' main protagonist fate was revealed.

    I wasn't a fan of the new characters, and it certainly wasn't what I thought I would be playing when I pre-ordered The Last of Us 2. As I was playing through I often thought to myself that this should have been a new IP, maybe named "Vengeance" or something rather than marketing it as TLoU2, it seems kind of like a bait and switch to me. In addition the gratuitous violence was on a new level, I'm sure this was what ND was going for but I wasn't a fan of it.

    The game play was somewhat improved over the original while not being top notch, I was not unhappy with that aspect nor was I unhappy with the visuals or the environments as I prefer more linear games. The animations were top notch, however I did feel the game was too long, it could have been half the play-time and achieved the same end result. About half way through I was ready for the credits to roll.

    I can't help but feel as I stated before that this should have been a new IP, which I think would have had more positive reviews, but a TLoU game this is not thus the low review score.

    Here's my take:

    Graphics: 9/10 - very good
    Environment: 7/10 - very good
    Animations: 9/10 - top notch
    Mechanics: 5/10 - good enough for the type of game it is
    Narrative: 0/10 - not good, not TLoU
    Characters: 1/10 - I barely remember their names let alone like them, other than Ellie
    Play-time: 3/10 - too long
    Gore: 0/10 - excessive and unnecessary
    Marketing: 0/10 - misleading

    In conclusion I will just say this, I'm disappointed with the game and ND, you're better than this! And I look forward to more masterpieces like Uncharted, but I'll probably not be buying any more TLoU games in the future.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us was always Joel and Ellie. You could take any two characters and throw them in that world, but that is not the last of us. The last of us was an emotionally intricate and complex story of heartbreak, love, courage, anger, happiness and more revolving around two people. It was a story where the writing and directing was so incredible that it caused the majority of us to connect to and to care for a set of video game characters like never before. We were on that journey with them the entire time, feeling the love, the anger, the heartbreak, the joy that they felt. It connected to me personally like no other video game ever has and still remains, for me, the greatest story in a video game ever....which is why the Last of Us Part 2 is such a disappointment to me. From a purely gaming perspective, this game is fantastic. The graphics are incredible, the game-play is brilliant, the animations are almost flawless. However, even all of these brilliant things about the last of us part 2 cant help me look past how poor and misguided the story is. I didn't play last of us 2 for the graphics. Sure they do help, but, and I'm sure many would agree, I was so hyped for, and played it for the story. I couldn't wait to jump back in after all these years, and after the first hour I was already worrying about where the game was heading. I don't agree with it, but I don't mind them wanting to kill off Joel. However, it was cheap. Instantly then and there in that mansion, the whole premise of the last of us died. An entire game without the relationship between Joel and Ellie which is even worse considering how it was advertised to us as if Joel was gonna be in the game for at least longer than the opening. But I accepted it and continued on under the assumption we were off to get revenge for how they brutally tortured and killed Joel, and in front of Ellie no less. However, half way through the game, when you've gone through the process of taking out the majority of the gang bar Abby, it is mind boggling to me how we are forced to play as her. This woman who brutally murdered Joel and then shot and killed Jesse, whose death was also cheap, right in front of us too. We are now forced to play through her childhood and then play with her and her gang who killed Joel through all 3 days in Seattle and I just couldn't be bothered at this stage. I don't care about Abby. I don't care about her life. I don't care that Joel killed her father. You had this person murder one of the most beloved characters in video game history, 1/2 of the last of us, and then we are forced to play as her, while the writing forces us to try to empathize or connect to this character in some way which is impossible because of what she did. It only gets worse then as, after playing Abby's never ending half of the game, you are forced to fight Ellie while playing as Abby. Then when you think its all over, it reels you back in as Ellie decides she cant let it go and heads to California to find her. Then once you do, after she brutally killed our favorite dad Joel, and after she murdered Jesse, and after she bites 2 of your fingers off, you let her go instead of killing her rendering the whole plot of this game, which was effectively justice for Joel, pointless. This whole story is ridiculous and completely misses the point of why so many of us fell in love with the first last of us, not to mention how inconsistent it is regarding how returning characters think and act based on the first game. The second half of the game in particular baffles me. Playing as Abby just bored and annoyed me as I couldn't care less about her and in no way was I ever going to connect to this random character I was forced to play as who was thrown in to this game to kill Joel. This game just felt like a massive middle finger to fans of the original game. Roughly 20 hours it took me to complete my playthrough and I stopped caring about the game as soon as it hit Abby's part. It is massively upsetting that I waited so many years for a sequel and this tone deaf monstrosity of a story is the best they could come up with. They took everything that made us love the last of us out, and, while I enjoyed playing as Ellie once again for her part of the game, I refuse to accept this as a sequel to the Last of Us. If this was the garbage that Neil Druckmann and his team were going to provide us after 7 years of waiting, I would've preferred if they had not bothered with a sequel and just left us with the masterpiece that was The Last of Us. I think a lot of people who liked the game and are claiming people are just 'review bombing' it for the sake of it and 'love complaining' are missing the point completely. If you take this game as a completely separate standalone with nothing to do with the last of us then yeah, it's a great game. But this was supposed to be a sequel to the Last of Us, the continuation of Joel and Ellie's story but that's not what we got. They failed to deliver.… Expand

    The game story sucks, every new character is pointless. They have the audacity to try and justify Joel and Tommy’s murderer and make you care for her, **** that, and in the end don’t even let you have the option to kill her??? STFU with that. Game ruined. Графика приятная, но неболее, невероятного некстгена нет. Но вот сюжет, отношение между героями, посыл - это плевок в душу первой части и всему разумному. Не хочется спойлерить, тем более многие и так знают концовку благодаря слитым данным и прохождению игры на ютубе, так что попробую расписать избегая конкретики. Не смогли придумать нормальной завязки, потому выбрали ту, которая самосвалом проезжает по концовке первой части. Она ломает всё хорошее что было в оригинале и дает историю уровня би-муви, при этом невероятно претенциозный, но донельзя очевидный. Мстить плохо, ууу. Надо прощать, ууу. Зло умножает зло, ууу. Задумайся, игрок! Если тебя хотят убить, не нужно защищаться и убивать, потому что этим ты сделаешь больно кому-то! Для этого посыла создатели выкручивают на максимум количество бессмысленного насилия и оставляют его не где-то за кадром, как принято в более-менее приличных продуктах, а по максимуму суют игроку в лицо. Смотри, человека долго и упорно избивают, тебе нравится? Нравится? А ты не только любишь насилие, ты еще шовинист! Расист! Не терпишь ЛГБТ! Уххх, плохой! Но ты прости всех и всё придёт в порядок. Надеюсь что игра провалится в продажах и это будет достойным урокам тем, кто лепит столь явные идеалогические поделки. 1 балл только за хорошие флешбеки, напоминающие какую хорошую игру можно было бы сделать.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been waiting this game with great anticipation. I even bought the remastered version of The Last of Us 1 to replay it in anticipation of this sequel release.

    I do not know why the writers have deemed it necessary to kill the main character from the previous game like he was not relevant anymore. I do not understand why characters who were deep and interesting are now single-layered and cliché. The only explanation is that it is a game made to look like a sequel but but made by entirely different people with no talent.

    I am sorry for the team who worked on this game. They obviously worked a lot to make it AAA. But a story-driven game with a **** story is as much a failure as a Hollywood blockbuster with a bad story and gawd awful characters would be. That's that simple.

    This could be said it is a John Carter level failure, but I actually enjoyed John Carter. It is a John Carter 2 level failure, the sequel where john gets tortured and killed in a dix minutes long agony scene and his killer becomes the main protagonist for half the game. John's friends, seeking revenge, finally corner him and eventually offer him a beer and a hug.

    I have not finished it yet but I am not really enjoying the story anymore as it is simply too far away from my personal reality which means: I simply can't relate and don't even want to. Providing a basis for a very questionable woke ideology seems more important than good story-telling. So: Was it really necessary? Holy **** . Thank you Naughtydog for this piece of garbage.

    Here we go, first of, I would want to start with the things I find positive about this game. For this generation, the game graphical performance is insane.     Here we go, first of, I would want to start with the things I find positive about this game. For this generation, the game graphical performance is insane. The realistic approach for the art style, the intention to detail of the game level and environment, the facial and movement animation, all of that blow my mind away and I can not wait to see this game performance on the PS5 later.

    Unfortunately for me, that was it. Other aspect of the game really make me want to put the controller down. The first installment of the game was heavily relies on its story as its main drive. I don't know about others but I was enjoying the cut scenes more than the gameplay. For this second installment, the gameplay is basically the same as before, the stealth mechanism still not really thought out, multiple unnecessary violence, an uncomfortable sex scene, etc. Every time I encounter an enemy, it just does not feel as good, the gameplay sometimes can feel like a chore that I particularly hate to do but was forced to do so. I secretly wish I could skip it for the next cut scene.

    Even more what make me scratching my head in frustration is, the cut scenes in this installment does not have the same level of enjoyment as the previous one. The premises of the first installment that really hook me is the unlikely relationship that was build between Joel and Ellie, two very different person that was impossible to become such as they are at the end of the first game, if it was not for the situation that they were in. The father daughter relationship that was build on trust and unexpected love. The first game also leave us with the big question on the quest for the vaccine.

    The second game focusing on the wrong things, for me I always associates The Last Of Us as a story of Joel and Ellie, now Imagine that that you play Uncharted 2 but in the first two hour Nathan Drake was killed of by some random NPC and then you are force to play as the said NPC for 1/3 of the game so that you could 'understand' her reasoning while playing catch with some dogs. It could be a good stories if it was written properly with a proper build up, but there is nothing that could support the writer choice and reasoning for the story to unfold the way it did. After finishing it about 20 hours later, all I feel is the bitterness that lingering in my mouth, there was no hope or expectation or even desired to know more about what will coming next like the first installment left me.

    You know what make me more uncomfortable, Naughty Dogs actually know what we, fans of the first installment want, but we only getting to peek at it through a series of flashback cut scenes rather to actually experiences it. But instead we are force to play as some unknown character and experience her pain.

    This is undoubtedly my biggest disappointment in a video game that I have been expecting for almost half a decade. The game will obviously make its millions and will always reminds me that video games and its industry will always be business first, and Naughty Dogs that has set it foot as one of the most beloved game studio since last decades, has fall from its grace.    … Expand

    What a horrible story . The story has no structure. The first 5 hours where amazing 10/10 . But after that when u have to play as Abby for the last 3-4 hrs and basically have to start the story again was just awful just felt like game filler to me.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
