But the completely flipped everything they built about the narrative on the first game and butchered it. They kill Joel straight off the bat and try and make him a bad guy. For no reason. And then they make the story slow, predictable and for the first time in almost 5-6 years I uninstalled the game before I played all the way through it. It’s that bad and that’s being nice. The high meta critic score and google score is very false. If you look at user scores on any platform you’ll see this game is garbage. Naughty dog this is the worst game you’ve ever come out with.     Naughty dog and Sony are so pathetic nowadays The plot is pure **** the way they're trying to make you feel bad about killing a dog or people is absolutely funny The whole message of the game is extremely obvious and have been done in better ways countless times. I was extremely bored. This isn't a game. This is a movie. And not a good one at that.

So many questions that could've been avoided, I'm giving you this 1 star because unlike yourselves, I care enough to respect your product (in it's Technical side) & also thank Naughty Dog for Part 1 of which is the only 1 to me that exists, I'll go relax outside & make up my own sequel story like the many other of fans have, Call us whatever but I honestly couldn't care' i got my refund, so sad to see another franchise fall to the wokeness… Expand

God ive noticed a lot of people online coping hard trying to like TLOU II and defending that terrible story, that´s some top tier post-purchase rationalization, i mean i get it, you invest time and/or money so your brain tries to like it, and if you like the game that´s fine, i desperately tried to like GOT S8 as well and i defended it for a bit, but later on i was made aware of all the plotholes, inconsistencies, abandoned plotlines, de-construction of characters and non sensical decisions and ending of story arcs that undid eveything that led the characters up to that point, exactly like TLOU II story, "subverting your expectations" is a fancy way to say dissapointment and is great way for lazy/bad writers to hide all of those problems i mentioned, if you like to be miserable and play through a movie with a bad revenge plot thats been done way better a million times before, especially bad because you dont even get revenge, only the antagonist that they so desperately want you to empathize with gets revenge,
    then go ahead.
    But at least try to listen to the points being made by people outside of access media that can talk honestly about it without any implicit risk of losing access, and if after that you still like it then there´s not much left to say, just dont blindly disqualify or disregard every critique or points made by people who didnt like it because i really really wanted to like the game but was unable to, i just couldnt get through a game thats constantly trying to make me feel bad for decisions the game is forcing me to make while ignoring plotholes and out of character actions. The first game wasn´t perfect either and yes that plot has also been done a million times before, but at least they pulled it off extremely well with LIKEABLE characters showing their growth together and making you care for them and their relationship, and at least the ending made sense, the doctors had killed many immune kids with no remorse and no "REVENGE CYCLE" happened to them those times, they just needed a cheap plot device now to kill Joel and validate the **** plotline and they couldnt even do that well, literally the most disrespectful and stupid out-of-character send off ive ever seen, actually spitting on the character, super subtle writing.
    Yes the gameplay is fun for the first 8-9 hours but gets repetitive really quick after that, and yes the game looks AMAZING for sure, what did you expect after 7 years of abusing their own workforce?,
    if anything the great people working at ND are the real victims here, i can get a refund for this "feelbad" simulator, they cant get their mental sanity back.    … Expand

    An absolutely nonsensical game that does little to naritavly improve apon the last game. Other than the graphics being better the game does little to actualy improve gameplay and has to fall back on pandering to a niche crowd to attempt to hide it's admittedly basic story. However even it fails to get a satisfying payoff in the end. Let's hope this is truly is the last of it's kind.

    The gameplay is the same from the last game but still very good and the stealth is awesome! And for some reason the story is so bad I couldn't keep playing so I watch/skipped through the last bit and now I want to kill myself :)

    I did not pick up the game for stunning graphics or refined gameplay, I picked it up for the story. Closest game I've come across to remind me of August Underground franchise and how tough it can be to just to get through

They failed to understand players, even their former work. The last thing they can do is just delete bad comments, and mock users. Just save your money for ghost or cyberpunk...     Visually, the game is fantastic - though I think perhaps a bit too good, as my PS4 sounded like a Jet taking off almost from start to finish. Sound design is good too, can't really dispute it on an artistic level.

    But, the uh.. Story.. Well-.. Ahem.. That's where it all goes to **** I feel far too many of the characters are either forgotten about, or just simply not developed enough. Some people die and you just - never hear about them again, despite the fact they clearly have some sort of significant relationship with surviving characters. The way the whole story is organised leaves you dissatisfied and for a game that relies so heavily on the story.. It's just not good enough. There's flashbacks within flashbacks, ham-fisted moral messages, that aren't subtle or intelligently done - like I've genuinely seen episodes of spongebob with more depth and subtlety. And I just genuinely cannot recommend this game. Unless of course, you've never played TLOU I. And even then, it's-.. Not great, and I'd wait for a serious, serious discount.    … Expand

    I loved the first Last of Us, finished it twice and owned two copies. I saw the leaks for the Last of Us part 2 but I went in with an open mind which is what Neil Druckmann wanted. I disliked the game and hated the story. Now the reason the game isn’t a lower score is due to the improvements of the gameplay, UI, graphics etc. The sound and music were also phenomenal. The flashbacks were great but also teased the fans with what the story should have been focusing more on. This is a story driven game therefore the storyline makes up a large portion of the review. The story left a lot to be desired and while it had some great moments dotted throughout the rest was a mess.
    - Characters like Joel and Tommy acting completely out of character in order to drive the revenge plot for Ellie was just poor writing. And no the “they were living an easier life in Jackson doesn’t cut it” they’re still living in a zombie apocalypse in a bigger settlement with regular patrols and security which would indicate an even greater need for caution. Also Joel was a careful character before the whole outbreak as seen in the start of the first game where he avoided helping a family because he needed to protect Tommy and Sarah and this is before he even becomes a survivor for 20 years and lives as a smugglers during the rest of the outbreak. - Forced events and more stupidity, Tommy and Jesse leaving the map on the ground so Abby can conveniently track them to their exact location. Jesse getting killed off just so Ellie can have her utopia with Dina, Joel dying early on for mere shock value, and as touched on before he died in a poorly written fashion that was not only disrespectful to his character but also insulting to the fans.

    - Cycle of revenge and forgiveness was done poorly. If your going to make it at matter of perspective then perhaps don’t have Abby kill Joel in the first 2 hours and then have the players switch mid game to try and get us to sympathise with Abby who brutally murdered the most beloved protagonist infront of the second most beloved protagonist. The sequencing of events in this game is a new level of stupidity. Also since Ellie ends up losing more than Abby does and actually showing remorse for her victims it makes the theme and cycle of violence rather pointless and futile for the player. It actually shows that you should end the cycle of violence through killing all your enemies therefore no one can get ‘revenge’.

    - Forcing the player to play as Joel’s killer for half the game is just **** honestly, and to make things worse you have to beat the **** out of Ellie and shoot Tommy, this isn’t fun, this isn’t entertaining, this isn’t even good from a story point of view. It’s lame and piss poor. I’m
    not going to care for some random stranger who wanted revenge for her dad, EVEN though her dad was about to kill a child without the child’s consent and Joel killed Abbys father not out of malice or hatred but because he was defending Ellie who he viewed as a daughter. The attempts to sympathise with Abby are shallow and poor. I would rather Tommy and Ellie hunt Abby and kill her while Ellie deals with how Joel lied to her, then Joel could sacrifice himself and thus ultimately being forgiven by Ellie in the process. Hell it would of been cooler to play as Tommy and Ellie’s instead of Abby.

    - Anti climatic ending and **** loads of depression because why not? Tommy is now divorced and bitter becaaause why not, Ellie is left alone which is the thing she feared the most. She’s missing two fingers and can’t even play the guitar which is one of her last connections with Joel, Dina left Ellie. Joel and Ellie never reconciled or even got the chance to because of the wonderful and peeerfrctly written character Abby. Let’s just make all our main characters suffer and show how bad revenge... yet the woman who starts all this gets to have her ****ty mirror relationship of Joel and Ellie with Lev and to continue living her life with no guilt nor remorse for anything she’s done unlike Ellie. There’s a lot more to add but not enough space, the lying and false marketing by baiting players with Joel, Ellie acting like a **** to Joel for so long when all he is doing is helping her (though she does have some reason to remain angry but it’s overdone). Pregnant women fighting in a warzone between warring factions?? It’s just so tiresome to play this game and it sucks all your emotions out and makes you question why you even played it in the first place.

    A massive disappointment and a complete massacre of the characters from the first game. The Last of Us 2 is not a game I think I or many others would consider playing again.    … Expand

Whilst playing part 2 I thoroughly enjoyed the graphics and details. The added fighting and weapon upgrades and the acting. But the storyline absolutely sucked. Not only was the main protagonist of the first game killed off but I then had to play half of the game as his killer, . Which only made me lose interest even more. I had no sympathy for Abby, I did not want to see any development or know her background I hated it that much! Naughty dog had clearly taken a number of aspects that were used in Uncharted which is understandable but unnecessary. I feel that naughty dog simply could not come up with a long enough storyline to compete with part 1 that they decided to take the risk of making the player play abbey for 10 hours. And in my opinion was a stupid risk that ruined the game for me!… Expand

    It’s not just the Joel death for me, I think most people expected him to die in the second game but I think they executed it poorly.

    I thought the newer characters were pretty eh, I kinda felt like Dina and Ellie's relationship was pretty cringy (nothing to do with them being a same-sex couple) I just didn't feel the connection between them, it kinda felt forced. I liked Jesse, I thought he had potential to grow as a character, but they killed him in the most crappy shock value way.

    But I think the biggest issue with this game is the sloppy organization of how you see events take place.

    Also the ending felt extremely dragged on, I felt like the game had plenty of time to show that Ellie learned that revenge is bad, and they could have just ended it with her and Dina living on the farm, but they really wanted to drive home the point that revenge is bad, so Ellie has to go try to kill Abby. Which if you're gonna go with that then you really need to go through with it. Have Ellie kill Abby, and lose everyone in the process, but instead she lets her live, and loses everyone in the process anyways. Otherwise, if they wanted to keep Abby alive, they could have ended the game on the farm with Ellie realizing that revenge isn't a good path.

    Overall I’d rate The Last of Us 2 a 4 out of 10 but I definitely think it had the potential to be an 8 out of 10.    … Expand

I want to start by saying what I did enjoy about the game; visually, this game is ways ahead of anything I’ve seen on this system, it’s crazy to think what it would’ve looked like on next gen. Attention to detail on shading, lighting, combat, it was top tier. The first 13 hours of this game we’re magnificent. They did a good job at not making anything feel stale as tome went by, rewarded players who tirelessly loot, and reconnected with that Last of Us feel where at times the character you love makes rash decisions that you’re just along with for the ride. Okay now that that’s out of the way, let’s move on to the cluster **** and **** show that is the writing. By now it’s no surprise anymore that we have to extensively play as Brock Lesnar... I mean Abby, the baby silverback gorilla who violently murders Joel. Throughout Abbys gameplay it’s clear there are two motives the devs are trying to shove down your throat; 1) the whole perspective of Joel’s murder, therefore seeing the events that transpired through Abby’s eyes. 2) in that, there is a feeling they are trying to force you to sympathize and forgive Abby as a player. Now all jokes aside, it’s something they had all the elements to almost pull off but execution was subpar. They have you jump into her shoes after killing one of the only two likable new characters. And 30 minutes after being given the reigns to Abby’s lenses, they show you Joel’s murder again. I understand the point was to show how she had a motive debatably as real as Ellie’s. But the problem with it (as is apparent throughout the story) is that the portrayal shows little emotion of lack of satisfaction having accomplished her goal, or questioning of self motives or decisions as is apparent when Ellie commits similar acts. Then toward the end of Abby’s completely dragged out campaign they force you to nearly kill Ellie, beating her severely and almost killing Dina. Granted, this is after Abby discovers Ellie murdered a number of her companions. But again. As a player I didn’t give a single f**k about any of those deaths because the story failed to have me connect with Abby. I understand but I didn’t care. They did all of this after you see her murder a beloved character. Best analogy I can give us this: if your father or any other family member was mercilessly murdered and tortured in front of you, by someone who’s life he had saved 1 hour ago, you WOULD NOT CARE about his killers background or motives. Even if you discovered your father killed the others years ago. And that’s the fundamental problem. Joel wasn’t a messiah or prefect or by any means a great man. But I’m connected to him and have a love for him and Ellie. So no matter wtf is said or done I can understand but I’m not gonna care about Abby or forgive her. Even though I’ve already spoiled aspects of the game I won’t spoil the exact details of the very end. But it was so anticlimactic and unnecessary. The game could’ve ended a hour or two earlier when Tommy visited the farm, and could’ve conveyed that Ellie learned the same lesson or finally reached the deeper understanding. Without losing everything. Or even after the kitchen scene before California, and that whole section could’ve been a part of Part 3 and expanded upon it. But no. All it did was kind of frustrate and confuse the life out of players. To wrap this up, again I say, I think this game has all of the scenes and elements to be a great game. To really convey the message and meaning they are trying to. But the execution was simply lack luster, ineffective, and drawn out. Caused by a multitude of things from forced agendas (i.e. Ellie kill dog = she’s bad. Abby save Zebra = she’s good) to poorly placed scenes and encounters that, if rotated around, could better tell the story. NOTE: I did just finish the game a few hours ago. We all know that given time our perspectives can change. So in a week I may see some bigger picture and think this falls more in the 6 or 7 range, or I may “dig my heels in the ground” and have my stance affirmed. These are my opinions. The only way to know for sure is to play for yourself. Just rent it. Or wait for a price drop.… Expand

No! But here’s my issue. The story is all over the place. It’s almost as if the writers had 3-4 ideas and couldn’t decide on which one to use so they used them all! The last act of the game was completely unnecessary. I think we could have had more Joel/Ellie in the beginning AND then kill him off. People giving this game a 10 are crazy. It’s a fun game and I absolutely 100% love Last of Us franchise but something happened with Part 2. Perhaps down the road we’ll get a documentary explaining “what went wrong”… Expand

Later we find out that stranger on the road was not sick and it was all a set up. They do everything to make you dislike Joel and continue to spit on him. They have a trans female/male shoot him in the leg and torture him with a golf club right in the first 2 hours of the game. They spit on him literally. They made Ellie unlikable and a selfish human being. She kills everyone and continued to blame Joel for saving her life. She cared so much in saving humanity because she has the immunity but instead she became a lesbian and chose not to reproduce. Let that sink in. She even let's Abby the one that tortured and murdered Joel in front of her get away with it. Abby also bit off two of Ellie's fingers. Her letting Abby go is basically saying Joel deserved dying. A loveable character who is the main character of the game. There was no justice for Joel. This game robbed everything from you just for shock value. The current narrative of destroying the male character to make the female character rise is very weak story telling. It is disrespectful to both genders. Females even hate it. Worst of all the pacing of the story is horrible. You literally play as Abby the character we hate for half the game. They tried so hard to make us like her but none of it worked. This game is a waste of time and money and should have never been created as a sequel. The critics are liars and they don't care about what the fans want. They only care about their political narrative and force you to like something that you will never accept. Then they insult you by calling you names because you don't like the product they are praising. They are the worst kind of human being.     This game is a great example of bad story telling at it's finest, just because you watch a few episodes of the walking dead doesn't mean you can write the perfect story. While playing the game I noticed how very useless some mechanics are in the game and how brain dead stupid some characters behave in the story.     The Graphics are flawless and the sound design is amazing, it's too bad its meshed in with the story holding it all back.

    If you want a better game to play with a better story I would recommend Nioh 2, Ghost of Tsushima and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Don't waste your time and money like I did.    … Expand

    Last of Us Part 2 is worst AAA video game of last 10 years. I rather play Marvel's Avengers than Last of Us Part 2. I rather play Mass Effect Andromeda than Last of Us Part 2. I rather play Fallout 76 (and i hate that game) than Last of Us Part 2. I basically play anything that was trash, rather than Last of Us Part 2, because Last of Us Part 2 is absolute lowest of the low trash.

However, this is a game that's supposed to be driven by its story. Let's say if this story was driving a car, it would have crashed into a dumpster. Firstly, this story doesn't have a protagonist or an antagonist. The game has this edgy type of story where since everyone is killing and murdering to survive no one is the main hero or villian. The problem with that is that this means there is no one that you can cheer for or want to see achieve their destiny and no one that you want to see taken down. This means you can't invest in any of the characters cause you cant care about them. This kind of story may work for other media like movies and tv shows but not for a 25 hour game. This is the most unsatisfying, boring, pointless story I have played in a long time. In my opinion put your money towards something more meaningful because this game ain't it… Expand

Lesbians? it’s not a problem - I don’t care about their sexuality you go for it girls. But...the death of a main character needs avenging and now I get no choice but to say I forgive you. I don’t forgive you and I certainly don’t forgive naughty dog and Sony. As far as I’m concerned, I payed as Ellie and loved it. I played as Abbie, got killed and that’s the real ending. Imagine playing the masterpiece that is the first game, and wait for 7 years to know and experience what happens with the characters that you grew to love, only for them to go the direction that they did, leading you off a cliff and while you fall, you just wish for the fall to end but keep going for hours until you crash into the ground, and the crash is worse than what you expect. Naughty dog was under the impression that if their art made you feel hate towards it, then that means their artistically good. There is nothing clever about the garbage story that was this game. There were numerous plot armor and plot convent moments and out right out of character moments and just plain retarded decision made. The new characters are not nearly as interesting as the ones in the first game and the ones you already know are put on the backseat, and the drivers are characters that the game tries so hard to make you give a **** about but fails and just turns into a shore to tolerate them whenever they’re on screen. For hours. Of course there were some social justice elements in there but they could be dismissed because the direction the franchise chose with the narrative is way more devastating and is the main problem that people have with this game. It might be more bearable to a new comer but if you played the first game, do not, I repeat, do not play the sequel. It will ruin your outlook on the franchise. What naughty dog is doing is dismissing us as haters and bigots and not realize that we were huge fans of the first game. But because of their arrogance and denial, they have their “set in their way” attitude, dismissing valid criticism as ignorance. They genuinely think that some are bad people for hating their garbage narrative, thinking they have the moral high-horse. When in reality, they’re just standing on a big pile of **** that is their game. Kinda shows how fragile their ego is. I used to have such high respect for this company, but after what they did, especially after the fact that they spit at their long time fans, they lost all credibility for me and have of their fan base.     The gameplay is average, the graphics are great, however the story and writing are terrible. Since this is a story driven game I'm giving it 0/10. One of the worst, most bland stories I've ever played. Doom eternal has a better story which is saying something.

    Gameplay mechanics are great but story is incredibly poor. Unknown what they did with the writers of the original game but this game has no heart or logical sense of the previous game. Ultimately it makes no sense why it won 2020 game of the year award out of context. In context, it’s unknown why it won even with the massive crunch from developers to push out such a terribly written story.

    Joel dying for such a silly and futile reason made death serve only to have a reason for the game to start but that was very pathetic coming from Joel who is a guy who detonates an entire army

    Basically Joel's death was very forced and in the end the other deaths are just boring and boring

    This game does not reach the feet of the old and unfortunately the script resources available to the creators were very badly used

    The game does an excellent job of making combat and stealth feel "real" by stripping away a lot of arcadey elements of most stealth/FPS games. You have to use all your senses and situational awareness to do well in stealth and combat. It can be frustrating sometimes, and can even feel unfair, but I can't think of many ways they could have made the gameplay smoother without sacrificing realism. And it had to feel real to make the story feel real, too.

    So, for me, the game is a 10/10 for gameplay, story, and graphics. They had a goal and they achieved it incredibly well. But many people will not enjoy this game at all, and that's okay. We need more AAA games that take risks and strive for something beyond simple, satisfying games that most gamers will like.    … Expand
