    I went into this game with no experience of the franchise , I did not play the first game so i went into this game with no expectations at all.

    There has been a lot of love put into this game by its developers, the lighting, the level design and the characters are all lovingly designed bit the story and they way the characters act with each other just felt very "off" I feel the developers    I went into this game with no experience of the franchise , I did not play the first game so i went into this game with no expectations at all.

    There has been a lot of love put into this game by its developers, the lighting, the level design and the characters are all lovingly designed bit the story and they way the characters act with each other just felt very "off" I feel the developers sacrificed the telling of a good story to push ideologies and beliefs, almost like they felt this was more important that making an extraordinary situation believable , I feel they brute forced in a narrative and then added a big arrow with flashing lights over it just to point out that it was there, like a "Look what we did , aren't we special"

    It all felt out of place and for someone that has no prior investment in the characters some of the dialogue didn't seem to fit. I had no compulsion to finish the game and watched the ending on YouTube, just silly really a silly ending for what feels like an ego project    … Expand

    heartbroken,,, the last of us part 1 my favorite game of all time, saved up for 4 months and bought it with my own money on ps3, played it more than 5 times and bought remastered when i moved to ps4.

    what were they smoking when they wrote the script for part 2, im disappointed and heartbroken

    The story is just terrible. In a game that’s this centered on the plot of the story, it shouldn’t be this bad. Not what I would expect from an AAA game. Neil shouldn’t get to write for any kind of game ever again. Let’s just pretend this game doesn’t exist after getting a refund.

Oh, and you get to play as the killer of Joel, forcing you to sympathize for her. Not my style, sacrificing protagonists in the early game for pure shock value

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tried to write a review but there's too many issues to go into detail so I'm going to give my summary.

    The way the killed Joel off was dreadful he deserved a lot more especially seeing how he was beloved by so many of fans from the first game. It was like the developers wanted to annoy their fans.

    Ellie's story was completely pointless and meaningless as you are forced to play as Abby and stop Ellie and killing her friend Jesse and almost killing Tommy and Dina.

    Being forced to play as Abby was a terrible move and completely destroyed the pacing of the game and ruined my enjoyment especially with multiple flashbacks from playing with Ellie reminding you that Abby brutally murdered Joel and now you have to plays as her for 12 hours as they show you her dull backstory. I feel like it would've been better if for example, Abby was introduced first at the start of the game with scenes of the hospital just after the events of the first game to introduce us to Abby and show motive. Instead it was terrible character development which was too little too late.

    Also no character development for Abby's friends they're still just nobodies who help Abby whenever she asks no matter what it seems.

    Story writing was just bad. Trying to give Abby morals even though she never once questioned her choices and was happy betraying her own friends and allies to make her feel less guilty about herself.

    Turning Ellie into a bad person was even more poor writing and was ill suited especially after the fact that every decision you make and action you take is pointless and niether the player or character get their release.

    The ending was lack lustre especially as you finally get to play as Ellie again but instead of excitement it was boredom with me thinking "here we go again". Abby, somebody nobody cares about, gets the better end of the stick with the encounter with Ellie making the entire game a waste of time.

    I shall now reinstall the Last of Us remastered and pretend this game never existed as I feel 2020 would be better without it.    … Expand

Honestly, I'm glad that when this game got leaked it was one of Neil's worst days of his life because that's what playing this game was for me and my friends. I've always cared for Joel since he reminded me of my uncle and to witness the tasteless way they decided to end his story. I would've been okay with his death if they had given him the same treatment Rockstar gave Arthur Morgan, let him go out as a hero/badass and not like some **** It took me a while to continue playing and I was fully on board with the whole revenge mission, playing as Abby didn't change any of the feelings I have towards her. Then when it finally came to the ending I couldn't belive Ellie just let her go. So now I guess it's an easy answer for who's the best post-apocalyptic daughter. If only Clementine was in this game I mean with her there's no doubt in my mind she would've gotten the job done without any hesitation.… Expand

I personally think that if this was a standalone game. it wouldve been fine however, the first game did a really good job delevoping ellie and joel as a character. it really upset me (spoiler alert) to see joel killed by an under develop character. who was never in the first game nor was mentioned and to add salt to the injury. you will play this character for some the portions of the game. I also find hard to believe joel trusted those guys so easily which contradict joel character as it was pretty clear in the first game that he does have trust issue. naughty has been one of my fav developers out ther but they really job the ball on this one… Expand

Se puede decir que Joel cultivo lo que sembró se entiende, toda acción tiene sus consecuencias, que sean protagonista no los hace inmune al castigo por dichas acciones... pero los cultivos los cosecho antes de tiempo por el guión que forzó actitudes que no fueron congruentes con su personalidad, eso fue un error abismal un ej: aceptar acompañar a Abby a un grupo de completos extraños que sin mencionar estaban armados hasta los dientes.! Hablamos de Joel un personaje que fue cazador, contrabandista y responsable de la exterminación del grupo "Las luciérnagas", hablamos de que Joel duras a penas pudo confiar en Henry y Sam en la primera entrega, incluso en TLOU II Joel le enseña a Ellie que debe ocultar su inmunidad para salvaguardarse...

    Ahora en TLOU II el motor principal de Ellie es la "venganza" lo que la lleva a matar a la mayoría de los integrantes de los Wolfs a sangre fria, un ejemplo mismo es cuando asesina a Mel (que estaba embarazada) y Owen, que al cabo de unos momentos Tommy le comenta a Ellie que casi todos están muertos excepto el verdugo de Joel, Abby... en esa escena se puede sentir como Ellie tiene la intención de no descansar hasta tener entre sus manos el cuello de Abby...

    Para que? para que al final del juego la dejase ir, dejando a nuestra Ellie totalmente sola y sin una congruente redención... Sin novia, sin su amigo (jesse), sin el hijo adoptivo, sin su figura paterna y sin la capacidad de poder darle color a los recuerdos de nuestro amado Joel tocando guitarra...

    De ahi lo demás TLOU II es magnifico, apartado gráfico, gameplay, banda sonora de maravilla, estructuración y lógica en la creación de niveles pero... el plato fuerte que es la historia, que hace la diferencia de un juego de zombies normal esta mal... :( :( :(    … Expand

    Es un juego que no me encanto la historias apocalipticas, prefiero la historia del 1 y no solo por la aparición de personajes principales, es porque no tiene sentido. No te deja algo plasmado para recordad. Si hay algo que ddbo dexir es que me decepcionó.

    I can't understand why the screenwriter's self-identity is forced on the user by putting it on the work, and I don't understand why the previous character came.

    It's no surprise at this point that my rating affirms that the best part of this game is the gameplay and graphics but the story is where everything falls apart.     This wasn't a "sequel", it's a totally different game not even worth being called a sequel! If I were at your office I'd make you my **** and **** in your mouth for being such a coward. Thanks Neil **** for ruining such an amazing game. Glad I didn't buy this trash! :happyface:

    I have never seen such incredible technical achievements so utterly squandered in a game.

    The game's presentation is undoubtedly 10/10. It is one of the best looking games ever created. The gameplay can be fun but in my opinion does start to get old in a 30 hour game. At times it felt like a bit of a slog and I did find myself bored from time to time. Still, your mileage may vary and that is nowhere near bad enough to be damning. There are also a selection of brief but fantastic setpieces peppered throughout the game. That's the good.

    In most other games, a bad story would not sink a game - but this is a Last of Us game, the sequel to one of the most highly praised game stories in history. The story of this game was marketed front and centre. It is the beating heart of the experience. Despite this, I never thought it would be possible for a story to ruin a game so utterly, thinking if it's OK to play, it's OK to play. And yet, here we are!

    The dreadfully inept storytelling affects so much, from whether you care about the characters to the order in which sequences play out. It cannot be separated from the experience, it is embedded. The story is told as you play through the game - this is not a simple matter of playing through and skipping the cutscenes. That won't work.

    The story is so broken, so miserable, so full of characters you end up not caring about, so irredeemably bleak while doing nothing to justify that bleakness, so determined to resort to transparent emotional parlour tricks to make you feel something - anything, so po-faced, contrived and nonsensical, it manages to destroy an entire franchise. Not a game - a franchise! People the world over were looking forward to this game. If Naughty Dog dare release a third game, it will not be met with anywhere near such universal anticipation.

    I cannot speak for everyone of course, but by the time the game finally showed mercy and decided to end, all interest I had for any characters new or existing was completely obliterated. The eight deadly words are in full effect here - I don't care what happens to these people. If you know your wrestling, Last of Us Part 2 is the gaming embodiment of X-Pac heat.

    The dismal failure that is this game's attempt at a story cannot be done justice here. There is so much to unpack that to truly explain the cavernous and profound depths of its failure would require a video review of an hour or more. In time, I imagine there will be many. The intention of this game is to leave you feeling miserable and you will - but not in the way the writers intended.

    It is a black hole of joy, a disconsolate abomination of a story experience that will oppressively crush any positivity you once held as if impending doom were a physical thing, a sickeningly thick smog of hopelessness that takes hold and will not let go. It chokes the spirit. It does nothing to make all this worthwhile.

    History will not be kind to this game, many who purchase it won't be either. Buyer beware.
    But hey, it looks really nice. Credit to everyone who worked on this game, bar the writers/directors!    … Expand

    No entiendo cual es el punto de jugarse como 30 horas para al final no matar a Abby. No vengas con que uno evoluciona como persona, si matan a alguien de tu familia o alguien muy cercano a ti,¿ si tu cuando llegues a tener al asesino que hizo sufrir a tu familiar lo dejarías vivir?. Encima corres el riesgo de dejarlo suelto para qué tal vez en el futuro te mate a ti.

    En primer lugar the last of us 1 era asombroso en niveles gráficos y este a lo mucho llega a promedio, pero en cuestión de la narrativa, sufre por la época, una búsqueda ridícula de inclusión sumada a decisiones que no son congruentes con los personajes.

    TLOU2 is a story-driven game. Not only is its story nihilistic, devoid of intrigue, and stocked with uncharismatic characters and banal writing (often, about their romantic lives), it's also a thinly veiled attempt to introduce inappropriate and bizarre beliefs into a medium that should be about enjoyable experiences, not about some developer's personal hangups.

    This was not made to be enjoyed, it was made to sneer, to lecture, and to talk down to its audience. We should not encourage such things in the gaming industry and, sadly, they are becoming increasingly commonplace.

    Whatever merit it has as a technical achievement are mooted by its off-putting writing and the seething condescension that drips from its screenplay. This isn't a game, it's a sneering statement. I give it two points for its craftsmanship which, while not at all groundbreaking, is competent and occasionally quite artistically satisfying.    … Expand

This game is a message and not a game. I didn't play to learn a 20 hour hald assed lesson of "revenge is bad unless you are the villain and next to nothing happens to you" man. I couldn't give less of a **** about the characters if I tried and what happened to ellie and Joel is character assassinations of the highest degree. First Joel gives up his name and trusts some random cult and gets himself killed. A 40 year survivor of the apocalypse is supposed to suddenly become a dumbass to further the plot. Then with ellie she just starts **** turning into this psycotic mess and does a lot of things she wouldn't do. NOBODY WANTED TO PLAY AS ABBY AND NOTHING YOU COULD HAVE DONE WOULD MAKE US EMPATHISE WITH HER. And Jesus Christ don't get me started on the ending. What a **** joke. Just ruin both of the characters with the cheap **** shocking death and disasterous revenge campaign. 0/10 you just shat all over the fans.… Expand

Joel and Tommy are naive idiots, there's a she hulk on hormone therapy (somehow) running around bashing heads in with golf clubs because of daddy issues, and Ellie cares more about raising a child with her lesbian lover that she had with a man Ellie isn't strongly connected to than she cares about avenging Joel.

    10/10, best game ever. Well done Neil **** and Anita Sarkeesian. The Jews win again.    … Expand

    It's the worst Naughty Dog game made by far as if the franchise progressed backwards in so many ways. Even constant glitches and bugs don't hit your eye nearly as hard as the plot which makes zero sense at all. This is not the game the first Last of Us used to be. It is a game of messages "this and this is bad, and this and this is good" strapped together in a rather ugly way.     The only good is the good graphics and details when upgrading tools etc, other than that all still same wheel as part 1.

    Play part 1, for part 2 it's far better to watch some uncommentary game streamers and do your own judgements, is it worth your 60$(even if free) and your ~24 hours play or not?    … Expand

    I really genuinely did but a revenge story without the revenge isn't just depressing but it's also pointless and it does a disservice to both the fans and all the characters in the story.

    Not only does Ellie not get her revenge she also loses both Dina and JJ, both her and Tommy are now permanently disfigured because of there efforts and so now Ellie has literally lost everything. She literally has nothing to show for her efforts. She achieves nothing and she learns nothing and as someone who loved the original game I can't recommend this game unless you want to have the original game ruined for you.    … Expand

    It’s an amazing game play but the story is just all over the place. I just wish the story was more deep like it was in the first game. And after finishing the game all you’ll do is ask yourself why did I go through all of that why was the ending so bland.

    It feels as though Naughty Dog has let me down. I've been a fan of their work for years. But this game has a poor narrative, kills of beloved characters, and leaves you with an empty feeling inside. They sacrificed a great game story for cheap shock value and it has ruined this game. What a shame.

    When you play a sequel to something, you expect it to at least in some ways invoke a similar feeling when playing. In TLOU 1, we were all enamored with the Ellie/Joel dynamic. Good stuff. Fun gameplay, good story pacing, generally enjoyable stuff. Sure, there's some gripes to be had, but what game is 100% perfect? I had spoilers thrust upon me before launch, but I managed to keep details away so I wouldn't be too biased. It didn't help. The big plot point happens far too early into the game, so it's like a punch to the gut before you get yourself settled in. I thought "okay, so maybe this can get better. It's pretty obvious how the story plays out from here" (which is another negative, imo. I like the story to develop as I go. I shouldn't feel like I can skip an hour of content and still know exactly what's going on). So that leaves you playing the first half just feeling like an absolute bummer, but maybe hopeful. Then you play as a new character who (for me) makes you reluctant to even continue playing the game. Playing through her portion made me so annoyed the entire time and I almost paid a friend to finish it for me. That second half doesn't get better, and it leads to the most disappointing plot resolution in the history of ever. It's like some kid tried to write a fanfiction with their own original character that they sort of just shoehorned in and tried to have all this drama and shock and high stakes plot, but at the end just wimps out.

    Beautiful graphics, gameplay was fun once you got past the weird handling, but those don't save a game you resent being a part of.    … Expand

    So, considering everything except the story it's a 6 or maybe a 7. But that's the rub. Everything that was so wonderfully vague about the end of the first game has been answered with utter banality. The amazing narrative decision that was simultaneously an enormously powerful character development moment and a hugely difficult moral conundrum that allowed you to reflect on the characters, and the Journey that you had taken, was reduced to a couple lines of dialogue, and never spoken of again. It is honestly the greatest failing of this game. It transformed something profound and meaningful and timeless into a bog standard story of the post-apocalyptic cycle of violence. And the worst part is, it doesn't even have anything meaningful to say about revenge. In fact it gets so caught up trying to make every character sympathetic that you have no idea how to feel in the end, you're simply left wondering, what the hell was the point of this? I was genuinely shocked when the credits rolled, I thought there was no way that was it. I felt nothing. That was such a negative experience, when those credits rolled, that I cannot give this anything other than a 0, avoid it at all costs, live in a bubble where this game never happened.

    The "inclusion" aspects of this had no bearing on the story and are completely overblown. There's one very minor incident of discrimination but it doesn't play any part on character development or the overall narrative so don't listen to anyone saying otherwise. You play as a lesbian and what appears to be a trans character, it's never really brought up.    … Expand

    Personally, I was going to buy the PlayStation 5 just because of this game. I'm really glad I didn't do this and I finished the game on my friend's device.

    This is the worst disrespect i have ever seen someone do with characters and world of a game. The writing is absolutely on the wrong side, it feels out of place sometimes and it doesn't make sense at all. Sadly, the amazing environment created in this game can't fix any of the flaws the story has. A true failure. For me this game never came out.
