    It's ridiculous that the Joel character is collapsing. It's understandable that you show a completely different behavior from the previous one, but I think it should be at least for a reason. The characters who change their personalities like psychotic patients without any reason for the careless Joel's carelessness. Where has the probability of disappeared?     It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. While there were a few genuinely good moments, the majority of games filled up with plot holes. It just took elements of what worked for the first game without understanding what made them compelling.

    After the first last of us, I was hyped for the sequel but, from what i saw this game is complete and utter bs. The only reason i won't give it a zero, is because of the graphics. In general the gameplay was glitchy, AI felt stupefied and the worst of them all, how the f**k can they make such a ridiculous, disappointing and    (People don't waste your money for this game, thank me later.)

It betrayed everything LOU was, cheap plot, boring characters, ridiculous deus ex situations, and the worst part? They are trying to defend the users' score by using the homophobic card. Cheap.     This game somehow derailed an entire franchise. It also showed how entitled game developers think they are, and that they can’t handle any criticism about there game without making lame excuses. Hoping this doesn’t get deleted.

    The franchise is all story and this is a game with a terrible story. The game does have lovely visuals and better than average game play, but the story takes all this away !
    The story tries so hard to force you to feel sorry for people that you immediately don’t want to feel sorry for they are really just unpleasant people.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I pretty much knew the game wouldnt be as good as the first one. But I still brought it just to see what the story is about. The first 2 hrs you get no play time as Joel and instead we get a brutal death. Afterwards it makes you wonder why Joel and Tommy were so easy going on telling them there names and where they live. And what's more is that Joel didnt do anything when Abby had the shotgun. The two are suppose to have 20 years of apocalyptic experience but get destroyed by a bunch of rookies that didnt even think bout killing tommy and Ellie afterwards, makes you wonder if they just did it on purpose just because. Another issue in the game is that you are forced to play as Abby for 10 hrs and they try to force you to feel sorry for her. Realistically you cant because her dad was a dochebag and didnt even ask what Ellie wanted and wasnt even planning on telling Joel in the first place. There was forced romance which was not needed because it seemed so outta of place and they give the women in the game to much power which made it seem that they were being sexist such as killing Jesse, Joel and handicapping Tommy. And finally you didnt even get your revenge instead Ellie wimps out and let's Abby, go leaving you with nothing. Some people might say Joel had it coming and that he was meant to die but honestly his actions are justified. He did it because he didnt want to lose another daughter he had no one else to care for after Tess was gone. And like I said before they weren't going to give Ellie a choice to give up on her life. I regret my buy has to be one of the worst games of 2020… Expand

    One of the worst beginnings and endings to a piece of media I’ve ever seen in my life. Major characters that are introduced are almost immediately unlike able, and if it isn’t immediate, it happens by halfway into the game. This is only the second time in my life that I have been legitimately angry at a video game and the first time was for a good reason. I don’t know what Naughty Dog or Neil Druckmann were thinking, but this is one of the worst dumpster fire of entertainment I’ve seen since The Last Jedi.… Expand

The main story was disappointing and felt underwhelming compared to the first game. Another factor in this rating was the lack a multiplying experience online.     The story was NOT good. The pacing was all over the place and a lot of the time situations and emotions felt awkward and forced. For example, there is repetitive focus on pregnant ladies (one of which was heavily pregnant and would not have been able to do half of the stuff they were doing). Once or twice would have been fine, but they put three separate cases into the story to try to force emotion.
    There was also way too much focus on the new protagonist of Abby. I understand why the creators wanted us to sympathise with her, but after a main character's death was shoehorned in for shock value, I had no care for her or her colleagues. I would maybe have cut down the gameplay with her to 4 hours as it just became dull and repetitive when I was already lacking an incentive to care about her side of the story.
    By the end of the game I just felt empty and disappointed. Not in the lack of resolution but in the way they had taken what had been so fantastic about the original game- the characterisation and narrative- and completely forgotten all about it. I found it extremely hard to finish the game.    … Expand

    Here’s the problem I’ve had. The game is beautiful in terms of graphics. I give many congratulations to the underpaid naughty dog staff for pulling this off. Other than that. I liked the story. But like everyone else losing their minds at how horribly things play out. It’s not the story the characters we loved deserved. We didn’t want this and yes naughty dog aren’t obligated to give usHere’s the problem I’ve had. The game is beautiful in terms of graphics. It saddens me to say that I enjoyed the game visually and although the gameplay mechanics are still the same outdated janky mechanics from the first game it wasn’t a good enough improvement. I liked certain aspects of this story but majority of it made me fume in anger. So in simple terms the rating I give here is a representation of how sometimes a good story told badly can’t achieve anything good… Expand

I'm aware other companies have similar practices, but I think this is a case of it going too far.

    Avoided the leaks regarding this game only to be disappointed. Not every sequel can be a Borderlands 2 I suppose.    … Expand

    If you liked the first game, do yourself a favor and forget this one exists, this game actively makes a mockery of what made the first games story and characters special to so many people. If you want to play it for just the gameplay you'll likely enjoy it, but if you care about the story and characters at all, you're better off staying away

You see, I don't care if you're gay, Japanese, Chinese, trans, or whatever... The thing is, this just shouldn't be the point of The Last Of Us. The first game was a apocalyptic world about a man who lost his daughter and found in Ellie his reason for continuing to live how a decent man. Was essentially the touching relationship between a father and a daughter, something basically nonexistent in games in general. A game with this this kind of plot and interaction has nothing do with politic ideals, sexual agenda, a new male-girl that we are forced to play or a cliché cycle of revenge already used in thousands of games and movies. But then Neil Druckmann choose put aside the the greatest strength of this franchise - the relationship between Ellie and Joel - to bring all of those LGBT+ progressists things and a nihilistic plot, just to "subverting expectations". It's simply frustrating. In the end, everything feels forced and overly depressive. Now I just want to erase that second part from my memory and pretend it never exists.… Expand

I never ever tought i would say this but they should have pulled a half life 3 on this one and never release it, just say it will come out eventually.     Gameplay and visuals are amazing but the story goes in a direction that Naughty Dog seems to believe in quite strongly but is at odds with what players and fans of the first game wanted.

    The gameplay is awesome but the story sucks. The trailers and its predecessor made my Hope's for this game very high but I was disappointed when I realized that they edited the in game trailers to make it seem like it had an entirely different plot, to some it may just seem like it made the game more surprising but it just made me disappointed

So much misfortune and sadness has been put in front of us these past months and one of the most anticipated games of the last 3 years, that game that will make us escape real life and truly immerse us in the story, delivered exactly what the players didn't want.
    Trailers contained deceptive marketing to try and show that the game was going to be engaging, inspiring and emotional like the good old days on the first game. On the contrary you are left with a character you don't want to play as, depressed, and hating the game's plot. The only enjoyable moments were the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel and when you killed those bastards. My sympathies to the gaming developers of the game that worked their hearts out to make something visually beautiful, with amazing mechanics and fluid game-play, just to be ruined it with such a horrible story.

    Ready to play new game plus so I can kill those guys all over again, but probably won't do it because that means I'll have to play as that person.    … Expand

    Probably one of the worst games I have ever played. I am not going to touch the fact that identity politics was so obviously forced on the game since that doesn't really matter nor it bothers me. But the fact that the writing and storytelling are absolute disgusting makes the game worth nothing. I wish I would have spent all these hours doing something else.

Playing the the story in the order it even is in makes little sence. Maybe having character backstory before deaths could've helped here. The last of us ll is that it looks like a work of art, its graphics and its physics are excellent could not wait less, between cinematics and gameplay there are no differences the graphics are great, you feel the weight of the gun when shooting and the gameplay is good, but its story I do not like, it makes no sense to kill Joel and also touch you handle the killer of your favorite character, plus I have to handle Abby for a long time longer than necessary, the game tries to make you empathize with abby, but believe me, you can't, the last of us ll was expected by the story and camouflage the story as something raw but I don't play to have fun not for a game make me feel uncomfortable handling a protagonist who is not worth it like Abby, the end of the game was disastrous, Ellie does not get his revenge supposedly to break the cycle but Abby instead got his revenge and Ellie is left alone, without his girlfriend his son or Joel, is cruel in a forced story, it was not so difficult to make a better story.… Expand

I don’t understand the logic behind any of this game it is terrible! The fighting style somehow got worse. Joel and Ellie’s personality completely shifted which okay maybe Ellie make sense because she’s older but to make Joel who was a BOSS in the last game shift him and make weak and have him make terrible choices in this game. ????? And don’t get me started on Ellie’s girlfriend who had 0% of personality except to flip flop on if she was gay or not and keep Ellie hanging on like a lost puppy. Awful awful writing. Awful character development, AWFUL advertising to make us think Joel was alive JUST TO KILL HIM straight away and then make us continue to play as the person who BRUTALLY murders him. Disgusting.     The graphics, gameplay, and the level design are fantastic. The facial expressions are also superb. However, the story really destroys the entire game. The story itself is fairly good, but the sequence and pace in which the developers decided to tell the events was abysmal. The attempt to get the audience to feel sympathy for Abby's actions falls short because they decided to introduce her after she brutally tortures Joel. The sudden cut to Abby's past when the story reaches a climactic point was also poorly timed. For the sequel to a game that was centered Joel and Ellie, the writers shove Abby down your throat and attempt to force you to like her by making you play as her for half the game.    … Expand

There is no denying that the gameplay and graphics are great but for a game that is single player only the story needs to be good and it is unfortunatly utter trash.After what she does and how she does it i had zero interest in playing as Abby, i don't care what Joel did and seeing it from her view still didn't make me change my views on Joel's actions and the fact that Abbys half of the game is just trying to make you feel sorry for her which i don't.I finished the game somehow slogging through the last half but wow that ending is awful and i'm guessing part 3 if there were plans for one won't happen after the obvious poor reception of Abbys character and the total destruction of Ellie and Joel's.It may be a massive success in terms of sales but this will do massive harm to Naughty dog's future games especially after the blatant misleading trailers showing Joel on the journey in scenes that don't even exist.I wanted this game to be good but it's a massive thumbs down from me.… Expand

Honestly, the only good parts of the game for me were a couple of the flashbacks and the mechanics. If we had the story of the original with the gameplay of this one, you’d have a 10/10 from me.

    The established characters do so many uncharacteristic things. From what I understand, Tommy has always been a stick to the plan type of guy since he left the Fireflies, but they send him out on an unplanned murderous rampage. That’s more of an Ellie trait, but this time Ellie is the one with at least a little bit of a plan. It’s like Naughty Dog just threw out everything we knew about the characters’ personalities and made up completely different people that happened to have the same names. The most disappointing part about all this is how misleading the trailers were. They straight up switched Joel out with Jesse in one of them. Maybe if they gave us the game we were shown then it wouldn’t have been so bad. Overall, if you care about the original game, don’t touch this one. But if you know nothing about the original and don’t care about the story, then you might like this one. I guess thank you Naughty Dog for teaching me to never preorder a game again.    … Expand

    Incredible visuals and music can't make up for a complete lack of skill in writing. The story is unbelievable, full of plot holes, often depraved in failed attempts at adding shock factor and spits on the legacy of the original. A painful game to experience.

    It is further insult to injury that Naughty Dog used false advertising to sell the game to fans of the first.

I don't even know why the critics gave this game such great ratings. Not good, I wished I had not preordered it. All the characters are bad and empty. The only cool character is Ellie but you only play as her only 50% of the time. Big thumbs down for me. The end is also a big disappointment. No no no. Okay it's time for me to chime in I'm not your average gamer I'm a little bit older than the majority of people that play video games I'm in my 50's so I may have a different outlook on life of how things play out compared to a younger person. I initially saw the leaks that came out and I was kind of bummed out to hear that Joel was going to be killed off but I kept an open mind that this is a fictional story and a lot of our heroes in movies die all the time. I saw a lot of people posting memes and saying a bunch of negative things. I had pre-ordered the game and said I will make my own assessment and so far the game play is outstanding and the storyline is not as bad as people are saying once you get over the part of Joel getting killed off. A lot of these YouTubers that are giving negative feedback on the game are young people and they're pretty much all jumping on the bandwagon regurgitating the same thing the last person said for likes on their videos. If you're thinking about getting the game get it don't worry about what other people are saying buy it for yourself and enjoy it.… Expand

They then tried to make a story about how bad guys aren't always bad, but the character in question was **** and they forced them onto us. Don't buy this **** game.

I put the game down after watching you tubers explain that I’d be playing Abbey for 10 hours. I asked for a refund, and was of course told “no” since I’d already opened the package and downloaded the game. Wait until it’s $10 on steam if you’re into playing a game that makes you irritated and pissed for 23 hours. Games are supposed to be enjoyable. This is the opposite of enjoyable. The graphics are fine and the gameplay is meh, but definitely far from a selling point when the story is this bad and disgusting. 2/10… Expand
