    The most overrated game this generation.. the "critic" reviews are either fake or the reviewers are too boneless to say how generic the gameplay is and how terribly the story and characters are written

    Let me explain for you guys why this game is a piece of garbage and why everyone is so mad about:

    1. Joel was killed off first 2 hours of the game, he should die but not in the way he did and certainly not at the very beginning of the game. At the end or near the end would of been better. 2.     2. Ellie wasn't even the main character nor did we play her for the entire game which is a disrespect because fans love Ellie
    3. We play as Abby, no one wants to play as this character especially for as long as we did. Nor does anyone want to beat the crap out of Ellie with Abby
    4. Game was too damn long which didn't work in favor for the gameplay that got incredibly boring and repetitive due to how long the game was.
    5. The new characters were treated better than the old ones. All the old characters were spit upon and the newcomers were treated with way more respect (i.e Lev and Abby).
    6. The ending was awful "revenge is bad" but the person who started the cycle of revenge gets away Scott free and constantly comes out on top against Ellie in the game (losing her friends doesn't count as her suffering, Abby's friends were punished for her actions, not her, unlike Ellie who lost her lover, baby, tommy and her fingers)
    7. They have the audacity to try and force you to feel empathy for Abby and her group. If they introduced her backstory and stuff way earlier and then she killed Joel it would have more impact. But having her kill Joel first thing and then expecting us to feel sorry for her is stupid. It's poor writing.
    8. The character development was non existent. There's no need to explain this because it's blatantly obvious.
    9. The false advertisement and the intentional misleading in the trailers is disgusting. It's deplorable that a company would intentionally swap character models, and ADD character models to trick consumers into believing something that isn't true just so they can sell copies.
    10. A better story would be Dina being murdered and Ellie decides to get revenge on her girlfriend by tracking these people down and Joel comes with her. The rest of the journey is about Ellie dealing with all this anger she has inside from Dina's death, to Joel lying to her and so on and so forth and Joel helping her deal with the anger as well as repairing the relationship they lost after Ellie finds out the truth about what happened during the events of the end of the first game. Then Joel goes out saving Ellie or sacrifices himself. The walking dead telltale series did Lee's death perfectly. That's how you give a good character a good death that fans are sad but not angry about.    … Expand

    The only things I liked about this game are the improvements in the graphics and combat environment. But those things cannot be compare with how the story was ruined!! Joel been killed just in the beginning of the game! The most important character in the franchise and the reason why we loved the game and the father/daughter relationship that dragger many gamers to love the story, and simply Neil destroy all of this because of what?? Getting rid of Joel just to switch the story to a gay propaganda?
    What is wrong with you?? and the none sense ending of Ellie forgiven Abby because of a flashback!
    Imagine John forgives Maich for a flashback of Arthur Morgan!! Its funny how the flashbacks of Joel are the good thing in this poor game. What a shame man, what a shame.    … Expand

Making us play as Abby and killing Joel in the beginning of the game is insane. The story is so awful that I wasn’t even able to complete the game. I have never seen a game make a story and playable character based on a completely random npc from the previous game. The agenda that this game pushed will ruin games for years to come. I want to see the story of Joel and Ellie not some random lady who has ridiculous muscles for the apocalypse. There are no redeeming qualities from this game.… Expand

    Well very disappointed overall with the story of the game, graphics, and voice acting carried hard but then the game your playing is story-driven no one cares how pretty it is, that's just the icing on the cake. Unfortunately, the story is so far off from what the first game was that it seems like "an out of season April fools joke"...

    I've enjoyed playing of this game, but game sometimes is boring - a lot of movies and less of action. I don't like that game shows love between ppl of one gender and no cute girls anymore.
    A lot of cruelty in today games.

    Yeah, no. There is just no way to play this game without leaving with a sour taste in your mouth considering it's just... One dimensional as all hell. Bland characters, blander story, blandest ''jokes''. But hey, not like this comment's gonna survive MetaCritic's removal streak anyways.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, the graphic and game control is excellent...but a horrible setting on the story and character. You could have achieve the same effect by crippling Joel or just make him severely injured and went into coma.
    A bad reason to start up a merciless revenge. I mean, did Joel torture his victim before killing them? No he gave them a swift and quick death. You tried to make Abby looks innocent by having a reason to kill Joel. Yes you had a strong and valid reason... But your reason doesn't make any sense to give her any reason to torture somebody to death.

    I felt deeply offended on the discrimination part against Jesse. What kind of double standard do you guys have to make such a bad joke    … Expand

    I wasn't a huge fan of the first one but I'll agree that it was a good game overall. I can't say the same for this sequel though. Aside from graphics everything else takes a turn for the worst, especially the story and characters. I would not recommend playing unless you like trophies and buy it second hand or something.

So many holes in the storyline and almost half the game dedicated to a character that no one cares about and running missions for people that were hardly part of the story development in the first place. The result are missions the feel totally unimportant because there’s no attachment to the outcome of the characters. So much indecision even in the final fight scene. Go after Abby again only to save her to decide to fight her again only to decide to save her again. It felt like they were trying to pull so many last ditch efforts to get you to care about this new character development. I was completely engrossed by LOU 1 and the combination of gameplay and storytelling was sensational. This time I didn’t care.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. la verdad tenia muchas expectativas sobre este juego el año pasado . pero mientras mas se metia la prensa y los temas politicos ,gradualmente fue destruyendo al juego. a nivel de juego en si, sus graficos su realismo maravilloso su buena jugabilidad este juego es uno de los mejores junto con uncharted pero en su trama , en su historia nunca habia visto uno que la arruinara tanto... quitandonos a nuestro personaje principal como si fuera un simple enclenque . las muertes que al final fueron en vano por la venganza de ellie, todo el transcurso del juego esperando a que llegase ese momento de la historia y perdona a abby, le quitan 2 dedos de la mano a la posible personaje principal de la siguiente entrega y nos dejan de final un simple recuerdo que ya no suma absolutamente nada. no hablo del resto porque es puro relleno ... no deberian haber matado a joel, de ser asi la venganza deberia llevarse a cabo , a abby le mataron a su padre, abby mata al culpable de su muerte y ellie mata a la culpable de la muerte de su padre emocional porque indirectamente la hizo sufrir... ademas de que mato a tommy,a jesse , su amigo , etc. termina cobrando venganza y en la siguiente entrega no hace falta que ellie sea su protagonista de nuevo , puede serlo otro/a con una historia totalmente nueva como hicieron siempre en assasins creed.y ahi terminaria toda la travesia de ellie pero el dejarla asi , sin joel y encima casi incapacitada por sus dedos de menos me parece absurdo ... este juego supero las barreras del fracaso , por simple activismo ,no quieren a sus jugadores , solo quieren dinero. obviamente no pondre ni un punto de calificacion porque no cuesta mucho esfuerzo con el dinero que les dieron de seguro, hacer un juego asi, obviamente contentos los programadores con sus millones teniendo que hacer solo graficos de buena calidad… Expand

In this game Joel’s death did not have any meaning, if they were to kill of a main character their deaths should mean something in the series. No one should just main characters off just to make the story darker. In rdr2 Arthur Morgan lived as an outlaw and we got to experience his life and understood how his character developed as the story continued and when the character was facing death at the end his death meant John marston(main character of rdr) got to live a life with his family as he always wanted and Arthur Morgan might not have lived a hero’s life but he surely died a hero’s death and at the end he did what’s he wanted to do I.e save John. My point his this game is trash, the facial graphics looks worse than ps3, the story is messed up since you start the whole revenge story to avenge Joel and then at the end the killer is let go because all of a sudden Elli decided killing is bad. Mind that she killed 100’s of people cold heartedly. Absolutely horrible game do not buy it save the money for smtg else. You r better of buying literally anything else other than this game with that money.… Expand

    The last of us 2 Graphics are amazing and the gameplay is OK, but it doesn’t make up for the poor story. This game actually made me want to put the controller down.

The game turns Joel into a villain and Ellie into a really unlikable character. It feels like the only character they tried to make interesting and likable is Abby and I absolutely hated her with all of my being. The game really shoves this character down your throat after she brutally murders Joel. They also dumb the characters down for the sake of the story which doesn’t make much sense. And these are just the problems with the story I haven’t even spoken about the pacing. I could go on for days about how much I truly dislike this game. The only silver lining is the fun gameplay which is largely unchanged from the first game.… Expand

The writers did a disservice to the beloved characters in the first game, and it felt at points that the characters weren't the same ones that we played 7 years ago. The quality of the first game makes the weaknesses of the second more obvious, to me the writer appears to have zero emotional intelligence which as I say is surprising due to the first game. Let me try to explain what I mean.

    My job used to involve giving very bad news to people (informing a person a members of their family had died) and this is how we would do it. I would knock on the door confirm I was talking to the correct person and give them the news in the most simple way possible. I would answer questions for about 10 minutes and then a second person would appear (Padre, Vicar) and they would take over. Why was it done this way? My relationship with that family member was tainted, he or she would always see me as being attached to a close relatives death, that is why a different person would look after them. To equate this with TLoU2 imagine introducing a new character who then goes on to kill a beloved character almost straight away? It does not matter how much character development you put in she will be tainted, unless she's a very likeable character (she isn't) she will never break through that initial feeling of disliking her. Then the game forces the player to get to know her? Instead of the complex relationship we originally had we got a rather cliched 'revenge' story, the complex character creation was dropped to push a painfully basic narrative.. disappointing.

    I am in favour of people showing trans, females and BAME in a positive light but why would you put them on the side of those who killed a beloved character? Why not have them included in a positive light?

    The plot holes have been looked at in some detailed and there's little point me retelling them, I just wanted to share what made me just stop playing this game. In my opinion if you enjoyed the first one for it's wonderful character creation and complex relationship (with a good balance of positive and negative narratives) then you may well be just as bitterly disappointed as me.    … Expand

    It is a really well made game when you look at the graphics and how the story is delivered. But I absolutely hated the story and what the company did to 2 of my favorite gaming characters. At the end of the day I'd rather play an 8bit game with a good story and mechanics. I hated the game don't waste your money and the ending is the worst part

BUT the shocking story line where you make what feels like basically no progress for hours just makes the game uninteresting. Also forcing you to play as a character you hate for 10 hours is unbearable, they try and make you connect with ABBY so you understand why she kills Joel but they do it in a way which makes Joel look like a complete idiot by going into a room with unknown armed people and just outright say his name. this is a completely different character to the first game who as, weary extremely cautious and overall a great survivalist. They clearly don't listen to there audience if Neil Druckmann had even seen the PSX 2016 crowd reaction to Joel appearing then how in the world could he think the script he wrote would be accepted by most of the fans. what could have bee the best sequel to a game in the past decade was ruined by agenda pushing and forcing players to do things they don't want to do. I'll just forget this game and pretend it was never released and it ended in part one and Joel and Ellie just carried on surviving.… Expand

    The story is a boring revenge plot filled with unfulfilled characters and a story forces all the nuance that was once found in the original LOU to be squeezed out of the game to fit thier boring revenge plot storyline.

    The pacing of how the story is told is horrible, with long winded parts of the game rehashing obvious character motivations tied in with other characters that felt completely wasted. If you're a big LOU fan and have been waiting for this game, I reccomend you wait till it goes on sale or borrow it if you can to play it, that way if you end up hating it as much as I do you won't feel like you wasted a lot of money.    … Expand

Joel dies in the stupidest way which is super out of character for him I mean he could of survived by using a fake name or not saying anything at all.     A square bashing simulator with a terrible story and disappointing ending. Beautiful graphics but nothing more than I would expect from any triple A game, for reference Anthem had beautiful graphics and world building but that still warranted a low score.

    While Having amazing graphics and attention to detail the game in general feels like its trying to be red dead redemption 2 but failing miserably ar it, the gameplay feels outdated and clunky at times, the story is unsatisfying and all over the place, the characters act like anything but human.
    TLDR this game offers nothing new besides the graphics and what it takes from other games it does poorly

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do i start.... well how about waiting for 7 years to experience Ellie and Joel on another wild ride. How about being an hour into the game and having all of that hope dashed. That's what naughty dog did. It's like Druckmann was watching the walking dead and taking pointers for shock value. "oh wow look at how people responded to Negan!" Shock value story telling is cheap. Am i really supposed to believe Joel, a guy from the first game who runs over a person looking for "help" because he assumes it's an ambush, is like "oh howdy partners, y'all should spend the night at our settlement and stock up on our resources even though I don't even know you? I initially defended this game when the leaks came out because i had trust in Naughty Dog because of past games. Never would i have imagined a company of this calibre would put out such a garbage piece of storytelling. I understand killing Joel his story was winding down anyway, but to do it an hour into the game just deflated the whole entire experience for me. And not only that you have to play as the person who kills Joel for like 8-9 hours. Who made these decisons??? mother of god man it's mind boggling. They also skip any funeral or memorial service for Joel which in honesty could have softened the blow a bit. But i didn't even want to continue but i kept playing anyway. Got to a point where Ellie is caught basically in a hurricane on a boat, nearly drowns so she can go kill a member of the wolves and when she does she almost dies if i remember correctly and Tommy saves her and then they're back at the theater.........do you see where i'm going the story is all over the place it's messy and unnecessary. This game could have cut a bunch of mindless moments where you're just going around and getting dialogue events in the stadium as Abby for instance. At least give it a trophy for getting those events but no it doesn't matter. The ending of the game was also hot garbage. Ellie is living with Dina after nearly dying at the hands of Abby(who you play) and Abby says to her "if i ever see you again i'll kill you." So cut to ellie and dina living in an old home on some farm and Ellie is still feeling the effects of Joel's death to a point where it scares herself and dina. So ellie decides "No i have to finish it." At this point as a player i was like "finally let's go kill her."
    Side note lev and yara and their mom seemed like a completely pointless story line altogether because when you go to confront his mother she's already dead at the hands of Lev.
    Anyways ellie sets off to California because magically Tommy overheard that Abby was spotted in California. Santa Barbara to be exact, so she goes there rinse repeat, take out "rattlers" and get to Abby. So you finally reach Abby and Lev and her are both tied to their own crucifix basically. So Ellie cuts them down, Abby begs for her life and Ellie is ready to let them go, but she changes her mind and decides to fight Abby to the death. Ellie gets the upper hand and starts drowning Abby and lets her up and lets her go and they sail off into oblivion. Ellie goes back to the farm to discover Dina isn't there. She tries to play guitar but Abby bit off two of ellie's fingers during the fight so now she can't even do that anymore. Ellie leaves the house and the game ends. I've never felt more empty playing a game it was meant to feel a certain way but it backfired miserably. The whole Scar story line seemed wasted as well, we could have discovered they had some crazy beliefs but most of them burned sadly because of incompetent wtiting. Playing this game makes the entire events of the first game seem irrelevant, why not just kill Joel off when he landed on rebar? No, you guys made us like and care for him and took him away for shock value. Graphics and gameplay are good but thats about it    … Expand

    Whoever played the first The Last of Us knows that the story of the game was completely thrown in the trash in 2, also for the sake of sealing on EXTREMELY irrelevant subjects in a post-apocalyptic world. The game came out of a story of action, survival and suspense to become a game of social agendas, revenge and the like.

    Several fans have waited for the continuation since the first game's release, looking forward to Joel's story, Ellie's development and their father-daughter relationship. So don't try to shove me down my throat because the reason they don't like the game is because the "main" character (Ellie) is a strong woman, "outside the box" and not sexualized. We all knew about Ellie's sexual orientation and it was never a negative issue or a complaint.

    * And here begins the spoilers: *
    The **** already starts for them killing the MOST IMPORTANT character in the franchise, because yes, Ellie is very important, Joel's brother, sister-in-law, fireflies and all the other characters were VERY important, but not as much as Joel, precisely because we (fans) have an immense connection with the character from the beginning, when we are forced to guide a story where Joel sees his own daughter die and becomes a bitter crown. Yes, he "had" to die, but ..

    After you spend incredible moments of emotional attachment with a character, they just throw you an anonymous you've never seen in the game and force you to play with her to kill that same character that you created an incredible and loving bond with, again, DICK IN YOUR CU naughtydog!

    The personality of Joel that we met in the first game was totally ridiculed, he was someone who didn’t say the name to strangers and was suspicious of his own shadow to a man who enters a stranger’s home and still says "it seems like a good idea" .
    The fact that he is not a long-playable character and that his death is not controlled by the player is another ridiculous thing to see.

    Ellie treats Joel's death as "I'm going to kill her in memory of Joel". I honestly didn't feel that she really felt angry, not like Joel who was almost blinded by hatred / sadness when his daughter died and when they take Ellie to the hospital. They could have worked on it MUCH better and more elaborately.

    And after that, the game rolls for revenge. It is revenge for killing Joel, revenge for killing an alleged scientist father who nobody knew about and much less cared about, it’s a gay sex scene, it’s that **** appeal of “I don’t want to talk to that prejudiced person”. Ellie, who was that strong child / pre-teen and who literally SAVED Joel's life in the first game, turns a **** revolutionary (avengers) IN A POST-APOCALYPTIC WORLD.

    It is worth making it clear that the game itself is not bad, the story it is. Good graphics, good gameplay, good character development, but for a continuation of such a rewarded and expected game, yes, I expected something better    … Expand

    Es un buen juego, te diviertes te asusta a ratos, te impresionas en otras muchas, vale la pena comprarlo ya? la respuesta es que No ! no es suficiente lo que se presenta TLOU2 es un juego que representa una buena historia pero se diluyo y se perdió a medida que iba progresando, por un momento pensé que estaba jugando un DLC o spin off del primero me duele decirlo pero es mejor esperar que rebaje su precio y comprarlo y con la mentalidad que no encontraras muchas cosas a las que aferrarte a la historia. Solo espero que la franquicia pueda levantarse de este golpe ya que no basta con solo tener elementos gráficos o musicales para que sea un excelente juego, un ejemplo claro de como se hace (Red dead redention 2) gráficos + Historia !
