Myself and many others feel completely lied to. The trailers built the game up to be something it was not. Ellie’s “quest for revenge,” for Joel takes a backseat to dumb drama with other characters I could care less about. Where the first game was one of the most well written stories in triple A gaming, the second one seems to be written by toddlers trying to push agendas. My only question for naughty dog would be “Who is this game for,” because it’s obviously not for fans of the original. I don’t know if I should even sell the game. It would just feel wrong putting this game in the hands of someone else, knowing what awaits them in this 25-40 hour train wreck.… Expand

    The Last of Us 2 is a huge disappointment. It's really sad to see how much effort went into making this game - while the graphics, sound, acting and technical side are top of the line, it's all wasted on a story that so bad it's mindboggling. Just to get it out of the way, I would give the audio-visual side of the game a 10/10, without a doubt. Voice acting - 10/10, best on the market. TheThe Last of Us 2 is a huge disappointment. It's really sad to see how much effort went into making this game - while the graphics, sound, acting and technical side are top of the line, it's all wasted on a story that so bad it's mindboggling. Just to get it out of the way, I would give the audio-visual side of the game a 10/10, without a doubt. Voice acting - 10/10, best on the market. The game runs smooth on normal PS4, so I have to congratulate all the people at Naughty Dog that worked on this side of the game, you are masters at what you do, keep at the good work! It's a true shame all your efforts were wasted on this game.
    There is no multiplayer, so it's a big detriment for the fans of multi form the first game (like me...). Developers said the reason for this is that they focused on the story and boy doesn't that look like a bad choice now.
    The core gameplay loop is about fighting enemies in a stealth/shooting sections and exploring the world to find more resources. It's basically the same as in the first game and I think that would be ok, if the AI wasn't so bad. I played in on normal difficulty and it's a joke. Once you realize there is plenty of ammo and resources laying around, the best strategy in the game is to just sit behind cover and wait for the enemies to line up for headshots. This make combat pointless and repetitive. The game is also way too long for this type of gameplay to stay interesting, so I was completely bored of it after around 10 hours, and this has never happened to me in the first game.
    The difference is that in the first game, the story is very interesting and there is no pointless filler. Not so in this one – the story of The Last of Us 2 is one of the biggest mistakes I have ever seen. Old characters are being disposed of to make room for new ones, which isn’t a bad thing in itself, but the execution is horrible. None of the new characters are interesting, they feel paper-thin and disposable. I didn’t care for any of them in the first half of the game, and then the game pulls a twist and makes you play a different, new character which is not only unlikable, is downright despicable. I understand what the writers tried to do here – show you the other side of the story, and how we are all human – but they fail miserably. Any investment in the story player might have had is gone at this point and playing any further is just torture, as without any sympathy for the characters the game gets INCREDIBLY BORING. The second part also feels like a long, meaningless fetch quest, it’s long and meaningless, clearly filler. You will try to skip as much of it as possible just to get to the end, only to see one of the worst endings in gaming history. There are no redeeming factors here.
    You can really sum up the story like this – first it shocks you for no reason other then shock itself, nothing happens for around 10 hours while you have to deal with empty, unlikeable characters, just to get to the second part when characters switch and nothing matters anymore. And, cherry on top, meaningless, pointless ending. It really makes you wonder what the massage was supposed to be, as right now it’s “if you want revenge, make sure you go all out and be merciless, as that’s the way to end up on the good side – if you hesitate and show mercy, you will lose everything”. Is this really what the writers intended? If they wanted to show On the Metacritic scale of 0-10, story gets a 0.
    One thing I would commend the writers on is the representation of minority groups in the game – it’s very welcome, especially in these times. At the same time, I can’t help feeling that the first game did it much better, as it wasn’t so on the nose there. Still – I’m happy to see it
    Without a good story, there is nothing to glue together other elements and it’s shocking how empty it all feels. And, as I stated above, this makes the whole game very, very boring and a chore to play. I can’t give Last of Us 2 more then 4/10 in the current state. Inclusion of a good multiplayer mode could bump it to 5/10, or even 6/10 if it was superb. Last of Us 2 will be a big scar on Naughty Dogs reputation in the years to come, a big let down from a studio that Could Do No Wrong, and then went ahead to do Very Wrong.     The story is one of the worst things I've seen basically being a revenge story where the maincharacter doesnt even take her revenge even after killing numerous people, the AI feels like it came out of the first starcraft as a dragoon and put into a shooter game, and the workbench animation feels incredibly unnatural. These are just a few of the issues.

    There are so many things wrong with this, the only decent things are the combat system and crafting system.

    This should not be considered canon, this should not have even been made. Whoever made this obviously had a bad boss directing them to make this excuse of a story, also feels extremely rushed in many aspects of the game, no way this was decided on by the actual people who made the game on their own accord.     Not much is needed to be said that hasn’t been already. Great gameplay and looks terrific. Writing is just awful, I didn’t realize it was a love story. As well as the terrible assumption that the fans wanted this. I see it was never about the fans. Guess the lying worked in your favor Naughty Dog.

    The Last of Us 1 is my favorite game ever. This is as bad a sequel to the first game as it could possibly be. Characters do not act the way they you know them to act, parts of the first game are entirely retconned or changed to fit a rewritten story for the sequel.

    Half the game you are forced to play as a character you have 0 interest in playing. Naughty Dog completely failed to write    The Last of Us 1 is my favorite game ever. This is as bad a sequel to the first game as it could possibly be.     Ужасно напрягает повестка и обманывают разработчиков. Хотя, если от этого абстрагироваться и брать во внимание геймплей в частности - он не цепляет. Скучный. Однообразные. Хотя сражения с зараженных удивили. Если бы не заигрывания разработчиков с феминисткам и прочей ересь, то игра бы вышла на 6.5/10

    Let's start of with the positives, the graphics, the environment and just the overall feeling of the feeling of this game world is great. Just very detailed and very convincing. Controls are okay, could use a bit more fine tuning.     The real downside for me is just the story, this has nothing to do with being against any agenda or whatever you wanna call it. I just thought that the story was very badly written, Characters making cringey bad decision and completely going out of their own way. The game just made me feel bad and akward for about 35-40 hours and it shouldn't be the goal of a game to make you feel bad, right? It should be fun. The only fun you get from TLOU2 however is the technical level of the game, not that feeling and story that it throws at you. I mean Neil Druckmann is the creator of the game and is free to do what he pleases, but making unpopular decisions has to have unpopular consequences as well sometimes and in this case it just crossed a line. I could not enjoy this game, the ending just created a empty, numb feeling, like "thanks for your effort, but all you did was in vain". All in all a great game if the story would've been written decently. The story alone would get 0-1 points, but all-in-all I think that a grand total of 3 points is rectified.    … Expand

    The gameplay and graphics are easily the best of this generation but the story leaves a lot to be desired.



    Considering this is a linear story driven game, thats a big issue as unlike an open world game, if im not moving the story along, im stuck. I wont go into much detail concerning abby etc but its deceiving that she wasnt shown at all in the games marketing campaign.

    Amazing graphics and atmosphere as expected. Just a shame to story line didn't match that epicness. Some much time and emotions was invested in the characters that made the first game, just for it all to be p***ed up the wall. Such a shame, GoT comes to mind

    I was looking forward to this game being a huge State of Decay fan and watching a lot of TLOU 1 "lets plays" online. I heard about the leaks and did everything in my power to just ignore it since there isn't a lot of major releases other than Cyberpunk this year. I pre-ordered the game from Gamestop and promptly picked it up and started to play it. I will list my Pro's and Con's below inI was looking forward to this game being a huge State of Decay fan and watching a lot of TLOU 1 "lets plays" online. I heard about the leaks and did everything in my power to just ignore it since there isn't a lot of major releases other than Cyberpunk this year. I pre-ordered the game from Gamestop and promptly picked it up and started to play it. I will list my Pro's and Con's below in details however I will give a quick synopsis first. One word describes this game, Predictable. From all of Neil Druckmann's tweets and how Sony has been copy striking people it was pretty obvious from the get go that this game is not for us, its Neil Druckmann's love letter to social justice. Everything was so predictable from the start. As an Asian male I heard about all of this inclusiveness and how this game was going to be a progressive step forward however the game is full of white characters. From the get-go the game does everything possible to get you to hate Ellie and side with Abby. The problem is Ellie is a beloved character and Joel is the anti-hero every game franchise needs. Abby had no back story, we had no investment towards her, but in Druckmann's mind her character checked a check box so we should just throw away our love and alliances for Ellie for Abby, because social justice! Abby's character is bland, there is no development into her, and quite honestly I didn't want to play as her, I wanted to kill her. The Joel death scene was again typical. It was a social message to embarrass the white manly male character by a woman in the most demoralizing way as possible. The death scene just like the sex scene was done for one reason, for the shock value. It was unnecessary and uncomfortable. The sex scene was disgusting and basically a rape scene. The plot of the story didn't develop well and nowhere in the game was I invested on continuing to play. Every cutscene had its injection of politics and I felt like I was being talked down too, as if I was reading a Neil Druckmann tweet. My final observation from this game is that it is a tone deaf to what we the people really want in a game and Druckmann and company are just trolling us. This was one of the worst games I've played not just from a plot line but also the characters and game play. The game play was linear and boring. I felt like I was just grinding to get to the plot of the story only to have everything I love about the game to be destroyed by a cut scene. The biggest problem I have is the media call me a woman hating, homophobic, blah blah blah blah. I'm sick of being talked down to by people in the media. I hate this game because its a bad game with a horrible plot,. You can call me names or a Russian Bot but it doesn't erase the fact that this game is a tone deaf and brief look into our current social state. If 98% of the country doesn't submit to what the media tells us to do or love then we are ________phobes, _____ists, etc. I have a few female members in my COD clan and all we talked about today was how horrible this game was so its not just men, its a majority of us that think this game needs to be buried with E.T. To me, This game isn't canon and Joel and Ellie are still alive.

    Good Graphics, nothing close to PC graphics but good for the platform

    Voice acting is top notch!
    Ellie is still one of the best characters along with Joel!

    The trailers lied and manipulated us. I bought this game because I saw Joel grabbing Ellie and thought this would be the continuation of their story.
    All the Joel footage is just flashback its a bait and switch
    Same ole gameplay as the original TLOU its just a pebranded dot version essentially
    Terrible plot line
    Lack of character investment
    Lack of character back story
    Lack of character maturation
    Destroyed any replayability of TLOU 1 by destroying the characters
    Too much social politics inserted
    Being talked down to in cut scenes
    Being forced to like Abby by being forced to play with her and the plot trying to set Ellie up into situations that force us to not like her; even though its totally against Ellie's character.
    Forcing an 8-month pregnant woman to patrol
    Joel's death scene was an obvious social statement and made to embarrass one of the best male characters in gaming
    The sex scene was disturbing and more like a rape scene and the sex scene had no build up or backstory. Its just two people meet and within minutes they are having sex even though this man has a family.
    The Lesbian couple was touted on Twitter and the media yet are a secondary throw away character in this game
    Abby is over powered and we are forced to play with her even though we all hate her.
    The unnecessary destruction of Ellie in the end is disgusting and was again just done for shock value and to boost up Abby
    The jump function is useless
    Lack of minority characters, all the main characters are white
    Game is too linear should have been open world

The fight in the theater was bad because it made u play as Abby and think the u killed Ellie and Dina until it cuts to the farm they get and it would be better if the game ended there but it goes on with a 2 hour epilog to find Abby again and in the end of the final fight Abby leaves like she wanted to, killing Joel and leaving ok and Ellie wants to kill her but doesn't and lets her leave alive so the whole story is pointless. Ellie gets back home and finds that Dina left her and now she's all alone, everyone she's cared for has died or left her. This game is complete **** and the worse ending in video game history, the whole adventure and story was for nothing with everyone leaving or dying in the end besides the one that should've.… Expand

The death of Joel was cruel and the whole story of the game was a nihilistic mess, fullfilled with the pretentiousness of Neil Drunckmann and his wish of making a crushing videogame that will make us rethink our lifes in a philosophical matter but failed miserably. The ending it's a disgrace for the love fans felt for the first game and we sadly had to swallow a long, boring videogame representing a failure dressed with a bunch of nonsense. Written as a fanfiction with New characters so empty that make them forget table and scenes that are unecessary; this is probably one of the worst games of this generation. Neil trashed his magnum opus wanting to be a Yoko Taro. But he obviously cant. Don't play this.… Expand

The story could’ve been executed better. I wish the story turned out to be about Joel and Ellie. But vengeance is a cycle of hate; and they truly did show how much of a destructive cycle it was just by how unorganized the game was. I feel like the team got stuck in politics and made so many changes that they hurried up and made mosh pit of flashbacks and concepts.… Expand

    I was about to give 7 when the game looks liked it ended. Then, everything goes down to hill from there.

    Game play, graphics, animations does not deserve this kind of score but scenario constantly killing every good part of the game and decrease its score. If you remove the scenario, it deserves a solid 9.

    The whole game is a waste of time as nothing actually gets accomplished its 25 hours of pure garbage and waste of time. The only reason someone would enjoy this is if they were in denial of what happened during the game or they enjoy the gameplay only which is also MEH hasn't changed a lot from the first game. A few cosmetic innovations here and there however, it doesn't fix the awful story that is trying to teach you politics and how revenge is bad.
    Joel who we started this franchise with and as a matter of fact has carried this franchise to where it is now gets killed in the first HOUR!!! This was only done to pander to the SJW crowd and was executed in the poorest way possible to make Joel look like a little B****. Half the game is spent playing as a character that you don't even like and never end up liking by the need of the game no matter how hard the story writers try to make you feel sympathy for her. When she is the one that kills Joel. The ending is probably one of the worst in history of any entertainment product to push a message. 7 YEARS FOR THIS not worth one penny. Not even worth for Free.

I can deal with a lackluster story is the gameplay is okay, but the narrative they used is poor and draining to the point of not being any fun a all. Its not a game you look forward to playing. I knew it would be an emotional roller-coaster, but it lost all of the redeeming attributes of the first. It is so flawed that it actively detracts from the rest of the game that they got right.… Expand

If you are a Last of us part 1 fans, you will feel physical pain and sick in the stomach when you play as Abby, after her brutally murder Joel(because he killed her father in part 1) within 100 mins into the game. Also worth mention that Joel just walk into a room full of strangers(Abby and her friends), without any hesitation or suspicious, and said to everybody, “Hey, I’m Joel.” and JUST LIKE THAT, get himself killed. :)

    The biggest mistake of the game is the delivery.
    As you play they give you flashbacks and they have flashbacks in the flashbacks.
    Worst offender is that they want you to sympathize with the enemy by giving you a flashback about 12 hours into the game when it is too late.

    With the **** up of delivery the story is ruined and it is a story driven game.
    Your gameplay has 0 effect on the story.

    I believe some of you were excited to see Riley in all this as much as I was? :(

    Lets start my review...The graphics was MIND-BLOWING . The combat and violence was BRILLIANT especially when they screamed and all had names. And gameplay was frustrating but GREAT, however, i felt it was very limited. Most the time your remerging through empty dark buildings or walking down empty streets than killing bad guys and girls or even zombies. There was alot less zombies even though at times they were hard, i still wanted to see alot more. Alot of places could have been filled with both humans and zombies which were left empty. There was alot more cutscenes which left me having no control of the situations and having to go with what the outcomes were.

    NOW..the story was the most disheartening. I HATED how Ellie treated Joel throughout. Then?
    After seeing Joels death? (which i believe felt extremely out of place and quickly done last minute with lack of understanding and dialogue) I was completely put off. I didn't want to play it anymore but i did with PURE vengeance. I had small hope to play as Ellie only to find Abby. Instead? I got to play less of Ellie and when the switch happened? I sold the game. I didnt bother with it. I later checked on youtube the ending and it was more insulting like Joel’s death wasnt enough of an insult. ELLIE LET GO OF ABBY? After Ellie kills everyone in her way RIGHTFULLY as they were part of Joels gang murder? ELLIE LETS GO OF ABBY?..Despite this, Ellie felt bad? What about all the scars Ellie killed? Or the WLF? Why did Ellie ONLY feel bad to kill the ones who deserved to be killed?? The character emotions confused me completely. I didn’t feel any emotions when I killed the dogs, killed Nora with a steel pipe and stabbed that pregnant woman. I believe the game tries to make u feel bad for killing the dogs when u play as Abby??? i don’t understand what Neil was thinking to even believe anyone would be happy to play as Abby and see shes some how not the bad person? Just because she saved a kid called Lev who happened to be a trans who kills his own mother for not accepting him???? This game tries making you turn against Ellie for killing these people Abby cares about. Well listen to this..NOBODY CARES ABOUT ABBY OR HER STORY TO JUSTIFY JOELS BRUTAL VILE GANG MURDER!!!! So why the hell did Neil put Abby’s story as part of the game? And 70% of it? We don't feel anything for her. WE CANT and neither did we want to. This was weak....In fact...Abby should have gotten over Joel killing her dad instead of expecting Ellie to let go of how Abby and her gang did after witnessing it? ABBY DIDNT WITNESS JOEL KILLING HER DAD THOUGH. She should have Forgiven Joel after hearing him out. He didnt even get a chance to explain or even apologise. The game asked him to sacrific a daughter like figure in part 1? After he lost his own daughter? Nobody would sacrific for humanity. Even if he did, Wars between humans would still happen, probably worse. Fights would still happen, probably worse and even worse Gangs would have formed. What difference would it have made if Joel gave Ellie in?????? None. Last thing he needed at his age was another loss and this big armed Abby didnt even hear him out.

    To me..the game was 3/10 because the storyline was awful. The emotions were not there..dialogue was $€#% and VERY annoying at times like when Dina constantly saying “shall i do it? Do u need help?” As if Ellie was incapable...ABBY DOESNT EVEN TELL ELLIE THAT JOEL KILLED HER DAD..WHO WOULDNT SAY THAT?? Instead she goes “u killed my friends” why couldnt she say “joel killed my dad..now u killed my friends..i should have killed u all when i had the chance..but i gave u the chance to live and u wasted it!!” That would have clarified ALOT. That scene itself would have been it. Also that guy who spits on Joel? He looks like Neil Druckman..why would u do that.

    Why couldnt a part 2 be an Ellie and Joel game as part 1 was a Joel and Ellie..THEN part 3 could have been this one..there would have been alot more sense and understanding..we could have been introduced to Abby properly where we could have said “ooo $€%#...shes after us now!” Then we would have been excited as hell to play part 3 and be chased by this angry big armed woman. That way we would have atleast in Part 2 enjoyed playing as Ellie with Joel being by our side as well as having a much better storyline.

    Also ONE MORE THING. Jess’s death was the worst. He was another great character wasted!! He needs a DLC to get to Ellie and Tommy. His friends problems were his problem and he went out of his way for them. He was shot and nobody mentions his name ever again. What the hell was that??

    And out of this ALL? WHERE THE HELL WAS RILEY?

    Cons: i waited nearly a decade to watch my favourite character get clubbed to death, abby is an unwanted 10+ hour forced sidequest, the use of extremely shallow and conceited logic to invoke emotion is completely unnecessary. Etc

    Essentially if you cut abby out of the story and rewrote how Joel dies you could have an amazing game set up to explore the continued relationship made in the last game, and topped it off with the emotional death of a beloved character in a honourable and heroic fashion. Instead, you get a poorly written revenge story that berates the player for doing things that they dont have any choice in, finishing with the worst ending to any game ive ever played. But hey, blowing a fan favourite character's kneecap off with a shotgun and then clubbing him to death is totally the thing players waited for. And that 10+ hour forced sidequest with abby was definitely what fans wanted. Not to mention that sex scene that seemed to be wrote by a complete moron was definitely what we waited for. In conclusion Naughty Dog has broken a core tenant of every game: Games are meant to be FUN. This game is a perfect example of why some sequels are not meant to be made.    … Expand

    The story ruined everything in the game. Memories from previous games are also ruined. As a result, this game series will disappear from my memory forever.

    - Poor handling of new characters
    - Plot holes
    - Confusing flashback sequencing (there are flashbacks within flashbacks)
    - poor character design
    - lack of character development
    - Deaths simply for shock value
    - Cringy dialog
    - Poor storytelling in comparison to the first game
    - important side characters are not developed enough

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I respect the amount technical work that went into this game but the story line is completely screwed up. I am actually left with only one character from either game that I still like. The first game was awesome, the way the relationship between Joel and Ellie unfolded was masterfully done. Part 2 everything is forced and none of the characters are likable, for god sakes they ruined both Ellie and Tommy. Additional characters are completely horrible people. No matter how they tried Abbie was unredeemable and her roided out physique was completely off putting. My god that sex scene was frightening. Why on earth would they force you to play half the game as this person?

    In the first game there was lots of violence but it was to protect people you cared about. Part II is nothing more than a snuff film.

    The only reason I gave it a score of 4 vs 0 is the few scenes with Joel and Ellie. I did enjoy when he took her to the museum.

    Naughty Dog should be ashamed of the story they took 7 years to come up with.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
