The game story line just plain sucks. I mean it's one thing to kill off Joel but it's another when you have to take control of the character who kills off one of the best characters around, That to me is one of the dumbest decisions. And of course the ending is just complete **** The entire game was based on the fact that this is all about revenge and yet for some reason at the end after Abby kills Ellie's father figure and some friends and bites of Ellie's fingers all of a sudden revenge doesn't come into play And its all about forgiveness? Basically there's no payoff, you don't get revenge for Joel. Yes stupid move naughty dog. And let's also talk about the fact that naughty dog lied to its fans. In the trailers we see Joel and Ellie interact In certain times but instead when the games out now it's actually Ellie and Jesse or flashbacks? And naughty dog and Laura Bailey and all these people that are supporting the game are wondering why fans are upset? Yeah this is not a good game this has so many issues the story was a mess, and the best character of the whole last of us universe gets killed it within 2 hours Yes the reason why this gets a 3 out of 10 for me is because the graphics are great and that's it everything else sucks.… Expand

    Story has ruined everything. if you kill one of the most beloved characters early in the game (Joel) and want to bring in new main playable characters like Abby, you HAVE to bring WAY more backstory in order to make the player feel with her.
    I mean she KILLED Joel!

    Ruined story. Beloved characters systematically destroyed on several levels. Franchise hijacked by gender politics influencing jarring story and design decisions. Hollow shell of the game that came before.

    If you don’t like the new direction your accused of being a ism or a phobe. Don’t waste your money.

    At least FF7 Remake didn’t try and pull the same level of bs. F**k you naughty dog.

    Just finished staying up late three days in a row playing this game. So clearly there is ALOT that this game does well. However, the downside is substantial. The AI is really stupid, even on the most difficult setting. (I’m a average gamer skill wise - maybe slightly below avg). However, a game like TLOU is mainly carried by its story and TLOU 2 brings a rather disappointing storyline and narrative with many plot holes and unsatisfying character arcs. The gameplay isn't that revolutionary but does the job well.     ND succeeded making their game look good but they forgot to put a soul in it. Sad to see a good franchise ruined like that i hope they will "wake up" and return to their awesome storytelling in their next title. I gave a 1 rating just for the release with minimum bugs/glitches.

    To me, up until now, this will always be a HOT pile of garbage I'd never waste, not even one single SECOND, on it. It's basically WORTHLESS for me.

    This is more like The Lust Of A** more than The Last Of Us. Also, calling this trash The Last Of Us is very, very insulting to its predecessor.

    The worst game of 2020. I just don't see how you can release this and call it a sequel to TLOU. A terrible plot, a terrible elaboration of side characters. And the main question is why are all the female characters so scary? All cutscenes are simply destroyed by these bogeymen and simply the most disgusting dialogues.

    The advertising was completely deceptive and misleading and I’m not ok with this (those who have played the game or who are aware of the leaks will understand).
    Strong on a technical level I suppose (if you ignore some cringeworthy dialogue here and there), but what made us love the original game so much was the characters and their heartfelt interactions.

    Aesthetically pleasing, great sound design and semi-open levels are the nicest bread, to a poorly-written story, awful character inconsistency, no new memorable characters who you will most definitely dislike (they all get killed or leave anyway) and pretty much the same gameplay you got in The Last of Us in 2013.

    Did you like The Last of Us? Don’t play the sequel, you’ll be better off that way and you will keep your love of the franchise relatively unmolested. I mean, I wouldn’t put much more belief in Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann after this glorious cock-up.

    Joel and Tommy are ruined. Their character inconsistency from the first game to here is insanely bad. They turned stupid, giving out their full names and trusting Unknown’s like it’s nothing. Obviously Ellie is angry, but after killing 100s of Cultists, Abby’s Group and the Infected, all in the name of revenge, but she doesn’t follow through? Yeah, yeah, Revenge is Bad, but you want to show that? You need to actually show why it’s bad in the first place. There are no memorable scenes pushing Ellie towards this point of view. If anything, she has every reason to kill Abby and she lets her go. Abby kills Joel, Jesse, mutilates Tommy and brutalises Dinah. She should die, otherwise you have no pay-off. That’s not even considering how you have to play as her after she murders Joel. This is not good game design, and this is not how you continue a franchise. Gameplay is the same as the last game. Sneak, loot, stealth kill, checkpoint. You can blitz enemies with stun grenades and checkpoint them to rush through. Enemy AI is downright inept and we’re still relying on QTE Cutscene Battles in 2020. This is not how you improve,
    Or push a franchise forward. Some of the moments that are meant to be serious are downright comical. Jesse’s Death (Abby headshots him out of luck), Mel is suddenly revealed to be pregnant by Owen after she is murdered by Ellie (two characters who they try and evoke sympathy for), Abby getting rawdogged by a Druckmann Self-Insert, it’s just bad. Their message is so hamfisted, so utterly pointless and poorly written that all their preaching falls flat.

    If anything, I think people hate it more now.

    Watch highlights, find streams, DO NOT BUY IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! IT IS NOT WORTH IT AND THIS MUST BE A MESSAGE THAT WE KNOW WHAT AN ACTUAL 10/10 GAME IS!    … Expand

    unfortunately they managed to kill the game completely. Everything was a complete mess, huge script holes, forced relationships between characters and very hasty deaths, an ending that makes you want to hit the joystick on the wall. They missed the opportunity to make the game one of the best of the new generation, but they blew it, a shame. the metacritic score can be 95, but make no mistake.

They had no idea what to do with the story and had to pay off the entire media to get some of their money back that they had lost during the production of the game. Naughty dog has ruined their image and will most likely no longer be a game studio after this game. Watch a let's play or a stream instead of buying the game and save yourself some money.

I was able to accept the initial 'shocking' event that drives the revenge narrative even if I feel it was poorly handled but moving forward certain narrative choices made the game a slog to get through. It is one thing if a game is not meant to be 'fun' if there is an emotional pay off at the end of it but I feel whatever they were wanting to achive fell flat.The story didn't work for me. Characters were not relatable, there was nothing to invest in, it didnt 'say' or 'teach' me anything and the bleakness and violence were never really balanced out by any deeper messages about the human condition. The graphics were beautiful, the gameplay was fine but I found myself having to force myself through it, accompanied by characters I didnt know, couldnt relate to or were so removed from what initiually drew me to them that I may as well have been playing a brand new game not a sequal. I'm trying not to spoil anything here but all i can say is this is a game built on story and they tried something, it failed and fell rather flat. I dint enjoy it while playing but stuck with it waiting for some big emotional pay off that in the end never came and by the end had a nagging feeling that i would have been better off just doing something else.… Expand

I'm honestly tired of playing games with such linearity and forces me to go down one specific route or else the game will just prevent you from progressing. I was never a huge fan of the original, but the fact that the gameplay is pretty much identical to itsStory aside, the game is fine. From a gameplay standpoint, it's just fine. I'm honestly tired of playing games with such linearity and forces me to go down one specific route or else the game will just prevent you from progressing.     Looks good but game play is the same as 7 years ago so big disapoitment. The important choices in the game are also zero so it felt more like I was watching a film tha playing a game.

You would have thought the sequel would be about Ellie finding out the truth about what Joel did in the end of the first game, would then lead to her wanting more than ever to find a cure. Or something relating to that aspect. But it literally falls apart from the very start. What is worse is that they clearly lied in the trailer showcasing Joel in scenes where, in the real game he is either not actually there or it's a younger version of him which means the scene in the game is a flash back. But the trailer is showcasing all present day moments making you believe Joel to be alive. Naughty Dog obviously did this because the game was leaked and tried to create confusion.     It seems like they tried making this a film instead of an actual game. Seriously it seemed like most of this game was just cutscenes that you can sometimes interact with. I think the reason why they left abby alive is for a DLC or another game, otherwise I don't find another reason why Ellie didn't achive her vengeance. The graphics and gameplay are great. I wiil like a ending where Ellie achive her vengeance and then regretting because it doesn't make her fill better.

    Gameplay is extremely repetitive. You spend time opening skills only to do the same on Abby. Abby's story is extremely plain and boring and they force you to play for her almost 15 hours. Didn't even bother to add multiple endings.

    Amazing graphics don't make a bad game good.

    The Last of Us introduces you to great, yet broken characters that grow and evolve as the game progresses, there is complexity and thought provoking ideals gracefully presented to the player. It emerges you in a dark, post apocalyptic bleak world. But some friendly banter and reminiscence of times gone brings some relief, sometimes comedic, sometimes sad relief from the world. It's was this small nuance in character development that made Sam and Henry unforgettable and their deaths that much more painful

    The Last of Us part II forgoes all that and decides to just take characters and change their mindset on a whim in order to force a standard run of the mill violent vengence plot on the player. The story is full of holes and apparently a whole lot happened in 4 years. PSP's make a comeback in 2038. I'm sorry but the first game set you up to believe the world had gone to absolute crap. Part II shows us nature reclaiming cities, yet I'm supposed to believe that a 25+year old PSP survived, still holds a charge longer than 10mins and the UMD disc's haven't corroded? When did society begin making clothes? there are many inconsistencies that break the game out of the setting it's placed in. But hey it all LOOKS good.

    Back to the story, it plays out sort of like Kill Bill, only by the end of the movie she lets Bill go instead of giving him the the 5 point exploding heart treatment. Over and over again Ellie pays the price for vengeance only to in the end let her target go for no reason, in fact it portrays the direction they took her character. So at the end of the game your left empty and alone without event the satisfaction of revenge.
    In fact if you want a good violent revenge story go watch the Kill Bill movies and if you want a revenge plot done better in a game format look to Tales of Berseria.

    Now this alone doesn't subject it to a ZERO score. However the game was marketed and early reviewers were strictly forbidden to talk about key points to mislead the public. The entire premise was to paint this light that the player would be returning to the world and the story would once again revolve around Ellie and Joel. This kind of bait and switch tactics, combined with the active DMCA striking and the mentality that you either kiss ND's (both Naughty Dog and Neil Druckman) ass and call the game amazing 10/10 or your "Toxic" or a "Incel" drops its below average score of 4 to a 2. Just because I don't think the game is amazing doesn't mean I'm Toxic. They are free to say its "The most ambitious game" and I'm free to disagree with that, it doesn't mean either party is being Toxic. People can agree to disagree but ND doesn't want to be civil about it.    … Expand

    its an experience I don't suggest to anyone really the game is riddled with triggers like, sexual abuse animal abuse, abuse abuse, soft and hard porn, etc. the game also has plot wholes and confusing characters who do and say things that make no sense what so ever.
    my final opinion after playing about half of the game and giving up after being forced to kill a couple innocent puppys, the game does a pretty bad job of keeping you engaged while telling an overall depressing story with an even more depressing end. gameplay mechanic wise I guess you could say it played good for the short time it felt like I actually got to play, during my play thru I kept finding myself saying "oh do I have to move now" over and over again to a point where the game was putting me to sleep.

The way they killed Joel off was extremely idiotic and never would have happened in TLoU part 1. The story just seemed to be one big pandering session for the LGBT community. It's not bad to have SOME Inclusion but it seemed that the whole game was only made FOR THEM while disregarding everything that happened to the last game.

    The gameplay doesn't look to be any improved from the last one, which is rather sad.

    Not only that but at the last battle, it simply leaves a sour taste and a slap to every fan of the first part. Ellie, who cut through and killed hundreds to get to Abby, Joel's killer, Decides on the last moment; when she could kill Abby right then and there, drowning her, to grow a conscience and lets the KILLER OF HER ADOPTIVE FATHER LEAVE. While Abby had some knife slashes to her, Ellie got two WHOLE fingers BIT off. But no, it's a game clearly worth of a near perfect score right?

    I never had high hopes for Fallout 76, which makes The Last of Us 2 the biggest gaming letdown I've ever experienced. The 9/10 visuals and score could not save this game from being an overall 1. I won't give away any parts of the story, but just know that your day will go much better if you spend that $60 on takeout and watch a play-through instead.

    The story was fundamentally flawed and disrespectful to the original game. The game play made no attempt to evolve beyond where it was 7 years ago; it felt terribly dated and was a chore to play through in between cut scenes. The same game play loop was used over and over, against the same brain dead AI. The art was nice aside from some wonky animation blending.

I had really high hopes for this game, not for the gameplay, but for its immersive story telling. Sadly, it never feels immersive, and the story is an absolute mess. I tried to keep an open mind, and say that it is just different and maybe revolutionary... I was just reaching for something that wasn’t there.

It looks gorgeous, it's a technical marvel, however, the storyline and characters have been so badly skewed it's almost unrecognizable compared the first game. The game is also incredibly boring, me and mate got ready for an all nighter playing this and ended up going to bed after an hour.
