It's hard to describe how amazing this game really is, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the epic battles, and the simple but intriguing story is what made Shadow Of The Colossus one of the best when it first came out on the PS2.

They made a great job porting it to the PS4, the graphics are gorgeous, and the filters and photo mode add to the fun for those who have already played the game

They made a great job porting it to the PS4, the graphics are gorgeous, and the filters and photo mode add to the fun for those who have already played the game on the PS2, I still have some problems with the camera, It moves by itself many times, and it's almost impossible to control it, I know you can focus on the colossus by pressing a button, but still, I would have loved to have full control of the camera as we do in most games.

Some people don't like to walk around the vast world of Shadow Of The Colossus because it's "lifeless", and it really is, but that's part of the game's experience, they don't play a soundtrack when you're exploring the world, which creates a silence that gives the player a feeling of solitude, I mean, you're going on an impossible quest, in a cursed land where life pretty much doesn't exist, with only your horse as your ally. Shadow Of The Colossus was set up in a way that this lifeless atmosphere works on its favor.

You should definitely pick it up if you haven't played it yet, as you should know, it's a classic and everyone who's a gamer should experience it at some point, granted some people won't like it, while others will, but I mean, you'll only know it if you play it, so go for it!

Needs more colossi but absolutly beautiful with a heart warming story and minimalist features giving you a great journey everyone should take part in. Also the camera **** sucks but one can look past that for the phonomal game behind it

This story is about Wander and his horse Agro on their journey to save a girl named Mono. In his attempt to revive her, Wander makes a deal with the entity named Dormin to slay all sixteen colossi in the forbidden land. By defeating each Colossi, Wander gets one step closer to completing the ritual which will allow for the resurrection of Mono. With almost no more information than this, Wander is thrust out into the forbidden land on his hunt for the first Colossus armed only with his horse, bow, and sword.
I played Shadow of the Colossus months ago for the first time but wanted to revisit it as for the month of March it is free to download with a PS Plus membership. I never played the original on PS2, so I did not have any nostalgia to influence my playthrough. Before I get into more detail, I want to say that this is an amazing game that you should try out while it is free, but it will not for everyone.
Shadow of the Colossus blew me away with how beautiful the landscape is despite its loneliness. Unlike most action-adventures, there are no towns, dungeons, or really anything to explore. Despite this, I was enthralled just riding Agro around seeing the different environments and the imposing Colossi from a distance. Although I would have liked more story and a more filled world, the reality is that the emptiness of it all adds to the mystery and loneliness of Wander’s seemingly insurmountable task. The colossi he faces range from humanoid to animalistic features from air, land, and sea. One common thing they share is that they are all massive compared to Wander. I view this as more of a puzzle game as the main gameplay loop is to figure out how to climb on to these Colossi made of stone and rock. After climbing to certain locations, Wander can attack critical points that are made of organic matter until eventually landing the final blow on the head of each colossi. Simple enough concept, but each Colossus offers a different challenge of attack patterns, and puzzle of how to climb to their weak points. These fights are magnificent in scale and further show the beauty of the artistic design of the game. Shadow of the Colossus also offers a photo mode which easily allows for some great wallpaper for any images you take of the environments and colossi. To further add to the ambience of the game, the fully orchestrated soundtrack pairs perfectly with the tone of each environment and colossus fight. I have been listening to the soundtrack again while writing this, and highly recommend you go and take a listen even if you don’t play the game.
This title is definitely worthy of its praise as one of the best PlayStation games ever created, but it does have its flaws. The camera angles can get a bit hard to manage during some boss fights and the controls are not the best compared to modern titles. The lack of a filled world adds to the overall mood of the game, but I really disliked having such a minimalistic story. With this remaster it would have been a great addition to add short cutscenes or unlockable lore for each colossi to understand them more. Finally, although I enjoyed the main gameplay loop the reality is this game will not be fun for many people. Once the method of climbing onto a colossus is discovered, the game is really just a climbing simulator while avoiding being shaken off. There is a thrill in discovering the pattern while avoiding attacks from a colossus, but then it just becomes monotonous climbing. Because of this, I highly recommend this title to those that love their games to be an artistic experience like Journey and say to those who aren’t to just give it a try. Not much to lose out on this title can be gotten for free this month. Shadow of the Colossus may not hit my top ten of all time as it will for others, but I give this amazing display of art an 85/100.

One of the most beautiful games available on the PS4, SoTC competes toe to toe with major AAA titles like Uncharted 4 and Horizon in terms of art direction. The journey to each colossus through desolate lands was also pretty relaxing for me. Call me a weirdo but casually running through beautiful meadows under the sun searching through various ruins to find a colossus was a really great experience for me.

The USP of the game though, has to be its music. The loud, triumphant tunes that play when you're trying to cling on desperately to a colossus, or the sad, almost mocking tune whenever you kill them, it all adds to the atmosphere.

Not having played the previous iterations on the PS2 and PS3, this remake was my first introduction to this game. I went in expecting a heartfelt story and some truly epic moments based on the impression i garnered from the internet and let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. This game doesn't throw a plethora of dialogue and cutscenes at you to tell it's story. It conveys it through its gameplay and subtle hints hidden throughout the game. The story was short and open-ended yet the ending really blew my mind.

If there's one thing I have to complain about, it's the wonky controls. Although, i've grown up playing PS2 and PS3 games so they weren't much of a problem to me. IMO SoTC is a game everyone should give a try at least once. It might not be for everyone, but for me it's one the best games i've played and it will always hold a special place in my heart and memory. Sometimes it's nice to just appreciate the smaller things in life :)

This isn't much to say about this other than it has improved on the original visually in a massive way. The cut-scenes are more solid and cinematic, the world has been brushed with more detail and the sound jumps right out from start to finish. All this around the same game-play that everyone loved about the first game. This here is a true remaster in ever sense of the word.

Bluepoint Games put a lot of effort in reworking Shadow Of The Colossus, and even if you are like me and have never played the original PS2 title, the amount of passion put into this game is fantastic to see in a game. The frustrating controls made finally overcoming a colossus even more satisfying, for me at least. The soundtrack is quite frankly one of the best I've ever heard. The music can be somber and melancholic, or large and bombastic, and it adds so much to the experience. The plot is incredibly straightforward, but the mysteries and hidden treasures buried underneath it made me feel a way that not many other games have ever made me felt. It may not be quite up to quality to other games, but the legacy it made lead to bigger and better games like Breath Of The Wild, and for that reason I believe this game deserves a 9 out of 10. The only reason the game is not a 10 is because the camera is annoying throughout the game. The player should have full control of the camera with the exception of parts were the camera is purposefully zoomed out during a fight.

Expand

When Shadow of the Colossus first released on the PS2 in 2005, it was unlike anything people have played before. A sprawling, open world where your only objective is to defeat 16 mythical Colossi that roam the land for your own personal gain. It was lauded for its technical prowess, the bosses themselves, and served as a prime case of video games being seen as a form of art. The game had its fair share of issues, and it certainly wasn’t for everyone, but it’s just so wholly unique in its presentation and design that you can’t help but at least admire it. 13 years later, a ground-up remake of the game was released for the PS4, and for my money it is the definitive version of this classic.

Of course, the most obvious improvements are found in the game’s presentation. The game looks positively gorgeous. Each environment in the game is pain-stakingly recreated with modern textures and graphics, and the Colossi look even better than before (and they already looked great on the PS2). It all helps to fully bring out the best of the original’s stellar art design. The main character Wander does look a tad off though, mostly in his face. The game also runs considerably smoother than originally, as the PS2 release was really pushing the hardware to its limits, and you have the option to sacrifice some visual fidelity for increased framerate. The orchestral soundtrack has always been one of the best parts of the original and remains pretty much untouched. Music isn’t always present though, as it only appears when it absolutely needs to. It can range from being haunting and beautiful to bold and grand, perfectly suiting each moment.

The core gameplay remains the same as the original, but with some much needed tweaks. As mentioned, your goal is to kill each of the 16 colossi in this forbidden land in order to bring back the one you love. With the help of a mysterious voice, your sword and bow, and your trusty steed Agro, you set off to do just that. Aside from killing a few lizards and eating some fruit in the over world to increase your health and grip, killing the colossi are the only thing you’ll be doing in this game. You’ll be using Agro to travel around from one point to another, and using your sword to help you navigate. This is one of the reasons why a game like this would be a hard sell to your average player. You can easily view this as being barren and dull, but given the core themes of the game and the context of the type of land you have trespassed on, adding other people or things to do would be a detriment. The world itself is artistically beautiful, and it instinctively makes me want to explore and soak in my surroundings.

Now let’s talk about the colossi themselves, as they are the real meat of the game. While some are considerably smaller than the others, most live up to their name exceptionally. These are not mere sword fodder for you to mindlessly slash at. Each colossi has a puzzle element to them, having weak points on different parts of their body, and half of the challenge comes from simply figuring out how to get on them and finding their weakness. If you take too long, though, the mysterious voice does offer hints. Once you do, it’s a literal struggle to hang on to them for dear life while they attempt to fling you off. Each colossi has a creative method of getting on them, and once you do and that glorious music kicks in it is absolutely thrilling. It does help that the controls in this version have improved a bit since the original, namely its control scheme. The original options are there for those who prefer it, but the revamped scheme feels so much more natural. Wander is easily prone to tripping and falling, though, so you’ll need to take that into account. Your horse Agro behaves rather realistically, and when traveling through narrow passages she usually does a good job of navigating through them automatically. The game also features a photo mode because every major Sony release needs to include one, so if you are interested in that it offers a good amount of features.

Shadow of the Colossus was an incredible achievement on the PS2, and its staying power and legacy continue with the PS4 remake. If you have ever been curious about this game, or are just looking for something different, this version comes highly recommended.

I can definitely say for sure that was a mistake since it ended up being the strangest masterpiece I ended up playing and I for sure regret not diving into it sooner. The few but key things that made this game work for me and what I believe are the sole reason why it's so beloved come down to the world, visuals, soundtrack, story, and bosses. Starting off, one look at SOTC's map might look like a very barebones map with absolutely no reason to explore it with how there's no side quests, NPC's, side enemies, interesting collectibles, or even any in game events. But that's the entire point since because of how you can only hear is the occasional bird chirping in the air and your horse galloping through the land as you travel and hear nothing else, it gives off a sense of loneliness that you don't normally feel in open world games making you feel like something is constantly off about what you're doing. Plus, it's therapeutic in a way thanks to it's emptiness meaning as you move around the world, instead of talking to NPC's, constantly looking at the map to figure out where to go, finding any collectibles, stare at any UI, or doing anything that could interrupt the experience, the game instead allows you to fully take in the world leaving you both immersed and relaxed as you're riding around. Finally, due to the emptiness of the world, it gives off a sense of mystery that you want to explore to see what you could discover which is exactly what led it becoming a cult classic. Looking at gameplay footage on the PS2 version, I could tell the game pushed that console to it's very limits with it looks surprisingly good nowadays, but the PS4 version is something short of beautiful with how it's so detailed while also keeping the original atmosphere. I came into this game expecting nothing from the soundtrack and on the surface, I wasn't really blown away by it initially as I was taking on one of the colossi, but then as I took it down, instead of heroic and congratulating music, the music gave off a sense of sadness and horrible feelings instead making me feel like I did something wrong hinting of the bigger picture in the future that something was wrong. Speaking of which, the story starts off so simplistic but leads to something bigger at the end and leaves you wondering so much and the fact that not much is said benefits the story since it leaves asking so much stuff even by the time you reach the end credits. Finally, the bosses are easily the biggest highlight of the game since you have 2 weapons and don't improve much aside from health and stamina hence making you feel so weak compared to the colossi meaning you can't just rush in and just go wild with them since that's nothing short of suicide, the colossi are instead an inverted dungeon in a way since you have to use your environment to figure out how to kill them and it's always satisfying to figure out how to kill them, the designs are PHENOMENAL, and when they kill you, the game over screen showing each individual colossi feels like a person's nightmare enhancing the creepiness of the game. Now as much as I loved this game, there were a few but big problems that did mess up my time with the game. Firstly, the camera is a bit clunky and can be a problem if the colossi's limbs get in the way. It wasn't necessarily that hard meaning the speedrun trophy was way too easy. Finally, what ruins it for me is that some of the colossi are pretty unbalanced especially the 11th colossi soft-locking me and left me infuriated instead of frustrated. Overall, this game was absolutely amazing and I can't thank Sony for keeping the game alive with this remake and can't wait to see how this IP will move forward (or honestly, if it's not going to, its fine enough) Expand

The reason this isn't a 10/10 from which you'll be able to tell from the other reviews is the controls are annoying at times. Not so in important situation but when on the horse travelling. It's like the horse is made of jelly and you're trying to control it with a Wii remote which is basically me saying, it's annoyingly frustrating at times.

The original fun factor from the PS2 game does carry through onto this PS4 edition and if you've not visited this game in some years like I did, for a low price I'd definitely recommend getting this, even just for the graphics (Which aren't next gen quality but an improvement nonetheless.)

Only negatives I had with the game were the camera and the lack of story in between every colossal defeat. I question wether the camera was made with the intent for the player to have to fight it as an extra challenge or it was an artistic choice. Either way, I felt it was an unnecessary headache to deal with that would of been better if we had a choice with a different camera, one less combative. + Exploring open world feels very much like a real-life hiking trip. The game has no filler activities of the modern open-world games. It could look empty to some, but I actually enjoyed it. Quite refreshing after Assassin's Creed series.
+ The music is still epic. The soundtrack didn't age a bit.

    Cons:
    - With the new game engine, the game looks much more generic than the original. I feel that the game lost some of its abstract geometric poetry with this new rendering. Also, the grass popup distracts more than it should.
    - At its core, this is a puzzle game. So at certain points I was annoyed. Especially, when the new hd rendering made finding interactive spots harder. In my teenage years I was much more forgiving for this kind of stuff.

The original game has been in my "to play" list for a long time, but I'm glad I waited and experienced the PS4 version instead. I feel jealous for Shadow of the Colossus fans, because this version is basically a dream come true as far as remakes go. The game looks absolutely stunning, even rivaling the PS4's own titles. Some people could argue that they should have implemtented more quality of life improvements, or even additional content, but honestly, this is exactly how a remake should be in my opinion: faithful as possible to the original work, but making it look better than ever.

Shadow of the Colossus is a game with a very simple but compelling premise: hunt down sixteen gigantic monsters that act as bosses spread all over the world. Boss fights are one of my favorite aspects in any video game, so naturally I was inmediately captivated by this premise. At first I had some trouble getting used to the controls and phyisics, but eventually got better at it. The controlls are clunky, but this is part of what makes the game challenging. Of course, that also means that you'll be set for some frustrating moments, especially during the first few hours. This is a game that often demands patience from the player, so I can see it being difficult to enjoy for some people. It is clearly not a game for the mainstream public.

But no matter how many frustrating moments you'll experience with the controlls, the game will keep you coming back for the epic and spectacular moments that take place fighting each of the colossi. Being a game designed entirely around boss fights, you can expect the fights to be more elaborate and time-consuming than your average video game bosses. Each colossi is like a puzzle, where you have to find the way to their weak points, and then execute your attacks while managing your stamina. Overall, the bosses are creative, varied, and for the most part entertaining from a gameplay standpoint. From an artistic standpoint, some of the battles are simply breathtaking. In this sense, Shadow of the Colossus is unrivaled in the gaming landscape. Of course, not all of the colossi are on the same level of quality. But overall the fights are very memorable and satisfying.

There isn't much to this game apart from the boss fights. The rest of the experience consists of traveling the vast, (intentionally) empty open world in search for the colossi. There are some collectibles and a much appreciated time-attack mode that let's you replay any fight, but I didn't really bother with any of those. And finally, the game has a story, which is very minimalistic and in reality, it only exists in the beginning and the end. The finale is extremely memorable.

The art direction for this game is very solid and well done. The landscapes are beautiful, and the colossi look spectacular, especially in this 1080p remake. The music is sensational, consisting mostly of orchestral pieces, with a few exceptions. Though I often find orchestral music in games like this to be very samey and forgettable, this is not the case for Shadow of the Colossus. All of the songs are very memorable, and the composer was clearly a very talented person.

In the end, this is a game that anyone who likes epic boss fights should play at least once. Again, it is not your typical adventure game and I would not recommend it to the general public. But I have to commend the developers for commiting to such a novel and bold idea, because the result is a game that despite its shortcomings, will always be rememberd by everyone.

    Score: 8.5

Still, it's a masterpiece of game art and still a pretty bold release by today's standards. All you do is ride hard and slay colossi again and again. There is not much extra to explore within the world either, but the world itself is like a character with a story to tell and is simply beautiful to behold.

It's definitely one my favorite games of all time and I"m glad to enjoy it in all it's new graphical glory, but some elements have not stood the test of time. This was a masterpiece in the PS2 days however and some things like camera and controls sometimes took a back seat back then. However, it's a missed opportunity not to address these issues now. They should have completely revamped the movement, controls, and camera for the new age. Still, I'm glad to have revisited the game once again as the graphical overhaul is well worth it to really enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of this game.

Yes... that is, unfortunately, the first thing anyone looking to buy this game needs to know. You will beat it, and you will beat it fast. Fast on Normal. Fast on Difficult. (Don't bother playing it on Easy unless you've never held a controller before. It's really not worth it then, especially at $39.99.)

I am giving this game an "8.2/10" because I got it at half-price, but that's still not it's regular price, and the price of remasters should always be a part of their judgment.

Of course, it really is a BEAUTIFUL remaster with visuals rebuilt from the ground up. I can actually watch Wander on his trusty steed Agro, and say to myself, "THIS is what Never Released Zelda WiiU title would've looked like if Nintendo had gone forward with that Tech Demo from 2011." When I sat down and saw Wander carry Mono into the Forbidden Land, I thought I'd purchased the wrong game, despite my memory knowing this was the same game. That's how beautiful it looked.

But back to the main point. This game is SHORT. Because many things were fixed - especially that frustrating grip mechanic. The game is not nearly as frustrating as it once was (even on PS3), and can therefore be beaten in less than 10 hours. These days, that's a very, very short game. Like "No Man's Sky, what the hell is this?" kinda short.

Also, the many photo filters are wonderful, but I didn't really understand what the point was of hiding some of the bonus content behind beating this or that Colossus with different filters. It really was a strange decision, I feel. However, if you're the kind for it, and if you really want to challenge yourself, apply the Night filter (bring the slider down till it's really dark), put the game on hardest difficulty, and enjoy. No headphones though! You wanna make sure you only see their eyes!

Music is as beautiful as ever, but on a better audio system this time, and I'll never understand why Kow Otani didn't also do the music for Last Guardian (which I personally thought was lacking in emotional substance most of the time due to clunky-ness AND music).

Conclusion: See TL;DR above, and possibly add to that: This was the last Team Ico game that was ever released (rereleased?), since they never finished Last Guardian, someone else did. SO... buy it for the feels?? Who knows!

The world is an aspect, commonly glossed over, of which the game deserves more credit for; while scarce and quiet, it begins to seem vast and majestic, allowing the player to lose all sense of location and engage with a vivid fantasy.

Scattered through the lengthy paths of the setting are towering bosses, which prompt critical thinking in order to be overcome. While each is different, they all share a common feature of weak points, and repetition becomes evident. If any boss were used as a final challenge for another fantasy adventure, contrasting to common boss designs, it would be magnificently used for dramatic contrast, but when being constantly lined up, these monumental quests appear more as menial monotony.

For every moment a player can experience, Shadow of the Colossus offers a soundtrack that matches it perfectly; from calm isolation, to dreading fear, to a sense of magnificent accomplishment, the musical score matches it without flaw. Every piece is fantastic, and helps not only craft an untouchable atmosphere, but tell a story that images never could. This phenomenal composition is remarkable, and I struggle to find something that surpasses it.

Shadow of the Colossus takes a lot of praise for being unique. It blew away the people who had few expectations, and that newly kindled flame of shock never dwindled amongst them. However, remove the rose tinted glasses, take a look deeper, and you'll see a game quite overrated by its audience of 2005's enthusiastic youths. I enjoy Shadow of the Colossus, for its many merits, but it will never be the flawless masterpiece many regard it as.

The game is faithful to the original and adds a few improvements but it still has problems that are hard to ignore in a modern game. While I respect the fact that they kept the feel of the original. I really wish they had fixed camera issues and somewhat rough controls. The remake also misses the opportunity to make the game as grand as it was originally intended to be by adding more colossi. The original game was limited by development restrictions but a remake doesn't have those same excuses. They really could have made this a must buy if they added some of the Colossi that were cut from the original game. All around it is just as good as the original and visually a solid step up but it has been 13 years since the original and the standards have risen.

The original gameplay of Shadow of the Colossus was revolutionary and surprisingly there is still no other game quite like it. Other games have borrowed elements from it in many areas but in terms of making bosses large moving puzzles it still stands alone. The climbing mechanics and physics are no longer as impressive though and seem a little unpolished compared to more recent games. The camera is still a chore to deal with and really makes some parts very frustrating. I found myself fighting the camera constantly throughout the game. The horse controls are also very frustrating at times. The bow controls were decent but inferior to modern games and probably could have been tightened up. On the plus side there are options for adjusting the control sensitivity and some options for remapping buttons. Overall the controls are a bit better than the original but not much.

While the story is a simple one, the tone, pacing, believe-ability and intrigue that it creates is masterful. It is like a modern myth. There is still no other game story that I can think of quite like this one. I just wish there was more to it. What is there is close to perfect but it is a very short and ambiguous story. Some people will love it but some people will definitely find it frustrating. I personally like the story a lot and still think about it often but I really feel like there should have been more and this being a remake definitely missed the opportunity to build on the Lore in a meaningful way.

In terms of visuals, it looks like a modern game while keeping most of the style that made the original so iconic. It obviously doesn't look as detailed as something like Horizon: Zero Dawn but it holds its own. The original style of the game made it stand out from everything else on the PS2 and the remake did a fairly good job of recapturing that while still looking like a new game.

The soundtrack is one of my favorites of all time and it still is. There really wasn't anything to fix and the remake retains that. Every song perfectly captures the emotions of the moment while never really getting annoying. The quiet sounds of the barren landscape offer just enough ambiance to be immersive. The sound effects are all appropriate and never distracts from the experience. The remake also gives you a lot of control over the sound volumes so it is easy to balance out the sounds to your preference.

Overall I think this was a solid remake of a classic but don't expect more than that. It looks pretty and new but at the end of the day this is a 13 year old game with a new coat of paint. If you want to replay the original with modern visuals, you will likely love it but aside from a few new additions like a long treasure hunt that adds nothing to the story, this is the same game. It is still a great work of art and worth experiencing though. It is a one of a kind that I still love but it won't be for everybody and it has objective flaws.

I'd like to go back and play this again, but the controls are going to take some overcoming again. Expand

You play as Wonder, a young man tasked with killing 16 colossi to resurrect a girl. These colossi populate the forbidden lands, a grand, lonely expanse you traverse alongside Agro, who is both your horse and sole companion. Despite some pop-in, the game looks consistently excellent from the environment to the designs of the colossi. The colossi are huge, haunting figures, and killing each one plays out almost as a series of puzzles. You have to figure out a way to exploit the individual weaknesses of a colossus, and this is usually quite fun but the specific method of killing one can be too obscure at times. Although you're given a hint or two to keep you on the right track, figuring out what exactly the game wants you to do can be a bit frustrating, especially as you often have to goad the unreliable enemy AI into certain actions before you can take them down. This was my first playthrough of the game and I often found myself unsure as to what I was supposed to do.

When you do manage to take down a colossus though, and everything works as intended, the game feels epic in scale and you're treated to some fantastic music. The music in Shadow of the Colossus is great and helps to maintain the sombre tone of the game.

On the whole though, the core gameplay loop is solid - you're told your next target, you find them, kill them, and move on to the next one. How you find the colossi is quite smart as well. In a well-lit area, you raise your sword and point it around. When you point it in the right direction, a beam focuses on your destination. I liked this, as it felt more interactive than just following a waypoint or a minimap. No minimap means the game can do away with the HUD when you're not in combat too, so you can better take in the visuals. Getting to your destination is no trouble either, as your horse is speedy enough and exploring the world is decent fun.

It's just a shame that playing the game can be annoying in places. In addition to some of the fights as mentioned above, the controls, and the way the camera fights against you in particular, are frustrating. It's not terrible, and you've kinda gotta just accept that the camera has a mind of its own and let it do it's thing. It gives you some nice angles at times, but at others it makes you stare at the floor. Using the left trigger to focus on a colossus in a fight helps alleviate this issue a bit. The controls while climbing are also a bit iffy. It can feel temperamental, glitchy and like you're not in control.

Overall though, this is a great game with a solid, somewhat emotional ending. The ending didn't take me completely by surprise but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Although I think Shadow of the Colossus is great, I also think it's plagued by some issues that perhaps stem from it being a remake of an older game with antiquated design sensibilities. Regardless, what is mostly a beautiful experience is marred by some frustrating elements.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Awe-inspiring. Shadow of the colossus offers a gripping and captivating experience with it's mountain-like scale colossi and fantastic level/creature design you will almost certainly be gripped in every battle in this game. Shadow of the colossus offers a gripping and captivating experience with it's mountain-like scale colossi and fantastic level/creature design you will almost certainly be gripped in every battle in this game. I'd personally not played the original on the PS2 or the HD version for the PS3 however finally getting to play this game I realise what all the fuss was about. The level of intricate programming that must have gone into this cannot be overstated, a lot of passion was put into making this game and it surely shows. The sound in the game was fantastic every detail from simply galloping along on your horse to the roars of the colossus was perfectly implemented and had a very real feel to it, allowing the full immersion of you and the game.

The graphics. I've never been so satisfied with water, which is a big thing to me, and considering this is a remaster too astonishes me. The colossus have very real features with no flare or un-textured spots on them, such as hair that moves along with the direction you are moving in, and intricate engravings on the parts that you cant even climb on. Love was put into this game and cannot stress enough, if you love great graphics in a game, this is another reason you should check this one out.

Moreover the gameplay, is mostly amazing, it almost always works and climbing your first colossus is an experience I'll never forget. However, with some of the colossi after even just the first one I started experiencing some difficulties with the camera, and the actual movement on the colossus. Such as when I was climbing the second one I would get stuck on strange places, lose stamina and fall off for no reason, which was frustrating. Furthermore the camera quite a few times was very frustrating as it moved on its own. Even when just riding your horse it would sometimes feel very ridged and robotic and you tried to manoeuvre your way through tight spaces, but couldn't see anything just because of the camera. Although sometimes frustrating I found these things didn't happen too often, and it is a remaster from the ground up. This is the only reason I didn't give it a 9 or a 10.

The story I found was more of something there to keep you going, it wasn't too necessary to a game like this but more added reason behind what you are doing. It had a very big plot twist I didn't expect but loved and I felt it was satisfactory to what it set out to do. It's not a huge story but it's still there and very prominent in moments.

Overall shadow of the colossus was an extremely rare experience in gaming and one you will surely remember, with excellent sound work, stunning visuals and excellent gameplay shadow of the colossus will go down as one of my all time favourites, a must have for all types of gamers.

    - Finding your way to each colossus is a chore for first time players. I wouldn't blame anyone using a guide to find some of them. The majority of your playtime will be spent running around on your horse.

This game can get boring at times, however, the story, music, visuals, and fighting the Colossi make this game what it is. Each colossus is completely unique and if I had to compare it to something I would say their like the Divine beasts is The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. I love this game and I would most definitely play it again.

    JUGABILIDAD:

It’s a good remaster, but frankly I find it unnecessary. Those who have already played the game on PS2 or PS3 will find nothing new here, and those who didn’t have the chance to get acquainted with it probably will not understand what we saw in Shadow of the Colossus 12 years ago, when gaming reality was completely different.
