This game has part / item collecting & surviving. That is extremely boring in a game. After you waste time meandering around badly designed levels, it's just about killing. Lara's character is worse than the previous game. This is an Assassin's Creed clone and its just like a million other games. This isn't worth your time. I don't know how they made a worse game than the last one, but they did.

OK so I grabbed this game at full price, because I was hyped and I totally regret it. FYI, this game includes all of the dlcs and weapons and outfits. And I gotta say - it ruined the game for me. The motivation was dead after a few hours.

To be honest, the game is well polished, graphics are good, voice acting is fine and lara ain't **** around like she did in the first game. But en contraire the first one was way better because it was far more logical. Example: You start the game in the siberian tundra with a bow, while beeing constantly attacked by heavy armed forces. After approx. 5 hours, Lara finally decides to pick up a **** gun. Why? Nobody knows.

So if you are a fan of exploring tombs, action packed scenes and female Archeologists, grad the game. For me, it wasn't satisfying enough.

I guess the story is good, but I didn't get involved in it, because I was too depressed by the other issues. This is typical american made entertainment. this game as well as it s prequel just put shame to the franchise ...square enix ruined the series since it is entirely different game from the first six installments published by Core design. they had entire TR legacy to begin with and what did they create ?! i suppose it is good game for younger players who dont know what it was like to play TR back in a day.

The game suffers from a sever case of input lag. When pressing a button you will find that the action happens about half a second after, which isn't too bad in platforming situations as you can adjust, but it really falls down during combat sections.

For the record, I'm playing on Survival difficulty which removes aim assist, but the camera controls are so clunky it's borderline unplayable during said sections. It's been a long time since I've been so frustrated at a game, but with unresponsive controls like these it's not hard to see why. Just trying to slightly adjust your aim is a tedious battle, especially in fast and frenetic combat.

I don't understand how the developers got the 2013 reboot so right, only to get the sequel so, so wrong with control issues as bad as this. I went into this game wanting to love it as much as I did the previous one, but I can't bring myself to carry on until these issues are fixed.

I feel it would be disingenuous giving this game a higher score as it's beyond time that games are allowed to slide by due to pretty graphics, amazing voice acting or purely due to brand loyalty. A game should stand up on it's gameplay alone and Rise of the Tomb Raider falls flat.

Why can't I just buy the core game for $20?

What if after the core game, I am good, and don't need/want any additional content. What is the worth of the DLCs and others that I will not play? As a PS4 consumer, I don't have the option to just have the core game and decide later if I would like additional content. Why make it a bundle, just to justify the $60 price tag.

The story is so basic and full of cliches that it was physically painful at times. The dialogues are so bad that i think the writers have 12 years old each, and at no moment i even care about the characters. Even Lara is a shallow character. The bad guys are just so cartoony that the main villain even has a big scar on his face, a eastern european religious fanatic that only wants to kill to get an artifact that gives eternal life. Yea, thats new.
Then you have the gameplay. The gameplay is clumsy. At best. Its not terrible, but i would not play this game for fun. The IA and the combats arent really funny, especially because (at least on ps4) is actually painful to aim. The map is full of markers (like a Ubi game) but there is little reward to collect everything. Some of the documents contain stories and some artifacts you find can give you some information about the world you are in. That was the best part, but the other 500 chests containing paper, deer skins or other materials you could get by playing the game, are just there to make the game look longer.

The only good part is the artistic one. I like the map, its not great, but the ruins of the bizantine city are just great. The artifacts are also great, and you can notice they put a lot of work in the map design.

So, in conclusion: Terrible story, basic gameplay and great artistic direction. This is not Uncharted, even when it tries so hard. Play this only if you want to explore the ruins of bizantine cities, soviet camps and siberian forests. There is nothing more of value in this game. It can be fun at moments, and tedious in others. Overall an average game. Clearly overrated.

On a scale where 5 is actually a pretty standard average game, Rise of the Tomb Raider deservingly falls below that mark. The story is very basic, plot elements are predictable from the very start, characters are uninteresting and have dumb and unclear motivations.

The core gameplay, provided you take the time and do side stuff, is very uninteresting and not rewarding. There's very little combat, and only a handful of tombs to raid, with very contrived solutions that don't always play by the same rules. Climbing is slow and clunky, and sometimes jumping from ledge to ledge, or across cliff faces, Lara will just not grab the other ledge, or jump in some weird direction, or hit some minuscule thing, and then fall to her death. I died more from just exploratory bugs than I did in combat.

The combat is awful. Your aim speed is very slow and imprecise, and then they toss on aim acceleration you can't disable. When enemies are close, and they will be since every enemy's AI is scripted to either run straight at you, or walk slowly towards you, the aiming seems to screw up and you have a hard time hitting things despite your aim being on point. I spent most of the game standing stationary and waiting for an enemy to show his head and pop it. Exciting. You can melee enemies, but it too, is dreadful. It doesn't do much damage, and mostly just "stuns" enemies for a lengthy "finisher" move, where all the other enemies shoot at you. The finisher move is also incredibly finicky about when it actually wants to work.

So since combat is terrible, how about stealth? It's incredibly basic. Other than sprinting or jumping (which you get a perk for, despite it notably not working) the enemies do not hear you. Their vision cones are laughably small, and you can run straight at them from the side. Before you upgrade to quiet stealth kills, which ironically would consist of enemies screaming bloody murder as an axe is violently jammed in their back, stealth kills actually aren't stealthy. There's of course also the forced combat sections. So, stealth isn't very challenging or rewarding, and isn't always an option.

The audio is actually pretty decent, with a pretty good amount of 5.1 surround spatialization, but walls and distance are not taken into effect in a lot of scenarios, so things sound closer than they really are. There's also often some seemingly random noises that I'm assuming is supposed to be "spooky" forest ambiance, but it didn't feel like that to me.

I experienced a fair number of bugs, more than my average playthrough of a game would have. Nothing game breaking, but I think worth mentioning. Overall, the core gameplay outside of story missions got real tedious pretty quick, the gameplay during missions could include god awful combat encounters, and buggy "exploration" movements and the story fell very, very flat. This game does nothing new, and nothing great.

Didn't care for any of the characters or the story to be honest, so much so that when Konstantin was spouting whatever his dying words were I didn't even wait for him to finish before blasting him in the face.

The traversal aspect was fairly good although it became more of a chore after a while. Speaking of chores, nothing let's this game down more than its combat, it is so painfully awful that I dreaded every encounter. I started the game on seasoned raider difficulty but had to change to adventurer because the combat just sucks so bad. Once I got roughly half way through the game I just wanted it to end.

I'm glad that I didn't pay for this game else I'd be even more disappointed. If you're looking for a good action adventure game just play uncharted instead.

    1) So many cut scenes, mini cut scenes and QTEs...like one every 4 minutes. They don't seem to want you to actual play the game. Seriously every stealth kill is a mini cut scene
    2) The combat is just boring, if you "stealth kill" an enemy in front of another enemy, literally if they are standing next to each other, the other enemy won't see you because it was a stealth kill. Even though in the stealth kill cut scene animation he's staring at you while your murder his friend
    3) Voice acting is just...bad
    4) Survival/crafting element is tacked on and seems to have no weight on actual game
    5) Distances seem arbitrary, Lara Croft can jump what appear to be dozens of feet at a time if it fits the level you are trying to navigate
    6) The animals you are supposed to hunt for...reasons...just kinda wander around and don't seem to respond to you in any consistent way whatsoever...but if they walk next to you and your swing your ice axe you can't hit them for...reasons...I guess

And I nearly forgot, if you shoot generators with a single arrow...they explode

All in all this game just served to remind me how much better Uncharted was and TLOU2 is.

Characters that are just as bland and generic (Jonah returns and is just as annoying and useless as he was the first time around). Gameplay wise, this title is just another cookie-cutter checklist-style open world. The combat is boring and unusually easy even on the hardest difficulty. The climbing is broken and overly complex, and certain mechanics won't work half the time, leading to lots of unnecessary deaths. The puzzles are fun but are far too few. Several in-game achievements were bugged and required backup saves to complete, a flaw that should have been fixed after it was found in the first game. The extra modes are a numbskull's handiwork; Score Attack is a mode that force speedrunning in a game that constantly breaks pace by forcing in "cinematic" moments and also punishes you heavily for not memorizing every little detail of ever single one of the game's mind-numbingly boring missions. And of course it's required for several achievements. The Expeditions require that you manually activate certain challenges just to get their corresponding achievement, so you're forced to do multiple runs to satiate the developers' obvious narcissism/if you want to get everything done. Overall, a pathetic game. Expand
