The feeling you get when riding through tall grass with the sun shining is breathtaking. Sucker Punch made a game that deserves praise and something different in the already tiresome and stale open world genre. Though they're sticking to what works they're not afraid of implementing new ideas and their own spin on it. The combat is satisfying from your first upgrade to your last and puling off a perfect parry makes you feel like you're invincible. Story and arc is where it became tedious and I found myself more invested in some of the side mission compared to the main story. By the end of the game I had killed off more roaming Mongols then I found fun and it felt like a chore. I experienced some bugs and glitches that took away the immersion, some more game breaking then others. The game also lacked that first party polish you expect from a first party studio. Having your cape fluttering inside houses, birds flying around me in battles or simply just getting stuck only to dissapear when I was following them got annoying after a few times. Overall a good and enjoyable experience but far from one of Sony's best games this generation. Expand

I am typically a COD gamer, but a few open world map games catch my eye from time to time. I saw this game, read the story line and from the minute my hands touched the controller I was immersed in this game. The story line was amazing. Fast loading screens. Often on games you are left feeling like you are running out of resources. I never once on this game felt that way. I loved all the different abilities and that you were not often forced to sneak around. Also the graphics on this game were some of the best I have ever seen. I would buy anything sucker punch from this day forward based strictly on this game alone and I have never heard anything about them before this, but they got my vote and I will be looking for their next game or a sequel to this game.

Boring. Not my favorite setting. But the game is not bad, especially for this company with zero experience.
The photo mode is the best. There is no game with such cool awesome marvelous photo mode. Only for it, the game earns my 8.

Wondering what are the reasons behind this so undeserved 9.3 score. Graphics and landscapes are beautiful, but you expect this in all games nowadays.

Just disappointed about this game. I get that that you are "unhappy" about some certain game, but overrating and hyping a game that is only discrete just for the sake of do it, is something that i'll never understand.

Of course GoT don't deserve 0/10 (i'd give 6/10), but you know... just compensating.

A great open world 3d-person close combat fighting game worth every penny.

    * Excellent and engaging fighting system. The mixup of fighting different classes of enemy and choosing the right stance is a lot of fun. Parrying works well and the timing in the game mostly feels really good. There are moments when it can seem a bit broken but for the most time, it is spot on. They also

They also managed to keep it manageable, there is not a crazy amount of combos that you need to memorize to have a chance.

    * A beautiful open world that is fun exploring - Not huge, but what is there is interesting and beautiful to look at. Art-style is really good, simple but well made. Not sprinkled with a bunch of filler stuff like so many other open world game, what is there is mostly fun and rewarding to do not just a bunch of stupid busy work.

    * Interesting story and characters.

    * Fair quality side-quests to do.

    * Main story requires just about the right amount of time to finish - not a story that drags on and overstays its welcome (im looking at you TLOU2, which I did like but the main story was way to long).

    * Boss fights are not that great. This to me is the one real weakness the game has, the boss fights feel very random and its hard to see a clear pattern to beat them. A lot of time I felt like I was unfairly punished when I "did step out of the way" or "did block" a hit.

Overall, a great game with some minor flaws, but still in a league of its own

Ghost of Tsushima is nigh impeccable from a technical aspect. On the actual game front, however, it falls rather flat and does nothing to distinguish itself from the glut of other open world titles on the PS4.

Ghost of Tsushima is nigh impeccable from a technical aspect. On the actual game front, however, it falls rather flat and does nothing to distinguish itself from the glut of other open world titles on the PS4.

Credit where credit is due: the game is gorgeous. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing at nearly all times, it's an excellent showcase of the graphics that the aging PS4 can put out. On the base model, it runs natively at 1080p and maintains a mostly solid 30 fps with occasional but not horrendous dips below that when there are a lot of particles or physics interactions going on. The lighting, shadows and textures all look fantastic, blood effects are excellent and well stylized, the draw distance is extremely impressive (while there is definitely some pop-in of fine details, it's very well hidden and only noticeable if you know exactly what to look for). The wind effects in particular are extremely impressive, causing foliage and grass to sway convincingly to the point where there is even simulated turbulence that causes ripples and waves.

The actual gameplay loop is where it falls rather flat though. I've sunk about ten hours into it so far, and I really feel like I experienced all the gameplay had to offer in the first two. The combat is serviceable, but nothing paradigm shifting: it's really just a less button-mashy version of the Batman system. The standoff system is really cool in theory, but its implementation is video-gamey and inorganic, plagued by intrusive UI that is extremely out of place in a game that otherwise minimizes UI elements. Exploration is dull, yielding either cosmetic options or incremental character improvements, and captures the same tedium of searching for Korok seeds in Breath of the Wild. The stealth mechanics are boring; enemies are generally a combination of myopic and hearing-impaired, and often don't notice a violent swordfight that occurred in a tent within throwing distance. Most irritating is that the game goes out of the way to place numerous ways to create distractions or general chaos, but it is never really necessary to use those options and it's usually more efficient to just go in swinging. The controls are pretty tight and polished though, so I'll give it that at least.

Overall, Ghost of Tsushima would be pretty mind-blowing if you haven't played a single open world game in the last decade. But if you have, it's absolutely nothing different from any of the rest.

Ghost of Tsushima was a lot of fun. Although i found the story predictable and the game play cycle and open world repetitive. I enjoyed my experience. Hopefully with a sequel, the can polish up certain elements of the game. I would recommend playing this though.

The only reason this game doesn't get 10 is due to the slight repetitive side quests and the final boss is not worthy of a game of this magnitude. Overall a must play if you like your openworld adventure. Well done sucker punch Expand

The perfect closing to the PS4 era with a game that really shows what the hardware can achieve. Solid story, enjoyable gameplay mechanics and the fact that a western company got praise from Japan says enough of the care and dedication the team put into this game. If this game does not get GOTY something is very wrong in the industry.

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
