I am only in Act 2 while writing this review, but I think i have a good idea of what this game has to offer.

Combat: leveling up is quite rewarding, it gives you opportunities to fight your enemies with different weapons and moves. This means you get the choice to face your enemies or sneak up to them. Until now, I enjoy every confrontation I have had. Story: nothing revolutionary.

Story: nothing revolutionary. It is a nice story about honor, which you can expect from a samurai story. Dividing it up into different acts makes it interesting as you seem to work towards an achievable goal.

Open world: the world in GoT is beautiful, some parts are breathtaking. The only negative is that there aren't much recognizable parts like in other open world games. It does create some spectacular settings though, especially for special combat scenes that are very cinematic.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable game that lets you fight interesting battles in a beautiful feudal Japanese setting. Well worth the purchase.

The first one is how meaningless every choice you do in the game is, the game seems like is going somewhere with the dialogue that it gives you and you expect it to have some weight in the overall story but i doesnt, making it totally pointless .
The second one is how repetitive the game is. Have u played any recent open world game like horizon zero dawn or far cry games ? Well this is the same, free outpost climb this kill this this guys etc , this is nothing new and there very little freedom in regards to missions structure you either go in guns blazing or you sneaky beaky like , this could be fun if not for the dumb AI and the very limited abilities you have to do so. Even the hook seems totally pointless and underused it's only used for climbing when it had potential to be used has a weapon scorpion any one ?
And last for not least why is the game dubbed in Japanese it should be its original language its just weird when u see Japanese people not speaking Japanese.
Now that the bad things are out of the way let's talk about the good things, I don't cry easily in games but this one made do it 3 times its not a happy story but it sure is a good one.
The combat in the game is phenomenal i just wish it had a bit more of limb cutting cause some of the blows the main character does seems like it would cut a man in half but all u see on the enemy is some blood stains and every so often u see him chopping heads and arms i just wish these happens more frequently because they were really satisfying.
The sound OMFG THE SOUND, from the wind blowing and dragging the leafs scraping them floor to the sound your Katana does wen putting it back in the sheath it really sounds phenomenal and the music feats the game aesthetic and the aesthetic of this game is beautiful.

It really is a fantastic game. Graphics, gameplay, story! Its all incredible. Sometimes feels a little repetitive and the story is a tiny bit predictable but overall I would easily say one of the better single player campaigns to come out in a while.

Very beautiful, lots of fun, but repetative. Every mission basically boils down to "go here, kill everyone". And the random fights you get into are like random battles in an RPG.

Expand

I gave it an 8 for two reasons; The first being that the character models during any interaction are often very lifeless. I would've liked a little more emotional/reactive facial expressions from the characters, especially the main protagonist; and two, a large number of the side quests are just.. go here and kill X. All of that aside though, which I am completely able to look past, I really loved it and looked forward to finishing all the collecting and exploration. Expand

Visually stunning with a great soundtrack. The AI are kind of retarded and stealth doesn't work the way it's supposed to. The combat gets repetetive quickly and the story drags a little by the end. Not very difficult overall even on the hardest setting so casual gamers can enjoy it to it's fullest. It's a solid game though for some light entertainment. 8/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You'll see this adjective a lot when reading the reviews: Beautiful. This game takes full advantage of high-def screens to provide you with a vibrant backdrop as you explore feudal Tsushima, an island between the Southeast Asian coast and mainland Japan. The Mongols have invaded and annihilated all but a handful of its samurai. You are Jin Sakai, a high-born noble who survives the onslaught thanks to a thief named Yuna. You begin on a quest to save your liege lord (and uncle) from the Mongols, but you must often turn from the samurai code of honor in order to effectively deal with the horde that has overrun your home.

The game play is fluid. There is a bit of a learning curve with the combat, but once you learn all of the stances and how to best utilize your resolve, it becomes almost a joy (played on normal difficulty). There are some issues in a super-tight melee with attacking in a different direction than you point with your stick (and sometimes moving around with your back to the target...like how did that even happen...and how do I turn around?), but a practical healing mechanic (take notes, Jedi: Fallen Order) more than offsets that. Respawn and fast-travel times are blessedly quick, and Sucker Punch, as they did with their "Infamous" series (which I really enjoyed), thoroughly make use of the center touchpad.

Taking part in the epic battles that abound in Act II is exhilarating. It feels like a free for all and you never know exactly when the waves of enemies will end. Little tidbits like "End Suffering" for a fallen enemy that's not quite dead is also wonderfully appropriate.

Some of the collectables are a neat addition (I really enjoyed the bamboo strikes and the haiku compositions), but there were far too many Inari shrines (fox dens). The charm system is a neat power-up idea, but it needed to be a bit more manageable. You get a LOT of charms throughout the game, some of which do the same thing. The Shinto Shrine climbs were also kind of meh. On a related note, the rope swing physics are a bit unnatural, but at least they're consistent and you get the "hang" of when to actually release.

The story, unfortunately, is tropey and largely predictable, which made it a little grindy for me, particularly after Act I (there are 3 acts). The side quests, especially those featuring the supporting characters (Masako, Ishikawa, Norio, Yuna, and Kenji) were more compelling than the main throughline. The rest of this paragraph contains spoilers...I mean, sort of. Can we stop with the "man has no friends" device entering the third act? Or at least end the "must reluctantly fight my father figure at the end?" At least Ryuzo wasn't Jin's brother... ffs. Khotun Khan was easily the most interesting character.

This game, though, truly shines in its art direction. I've already covered the vivid color palette The kabuki-esque intros to the Mythic Tales with ink and shadow were master strokes. A lot of praise has been heaped "Kurasawa Mode," which is neat to try during a duel and/or a couple of missions, but the black-and-white schema also applies to incoming attacks, whether they're unblockable (red) or parryable (blue). That's kind of a useful thing to know.

The voice acting is hit and miss on the English side. My first playthrough, I did Japanese audio with English subtitles and enjoyed it far more than my all-English New Game + playthrough.

Overall, Ghost of Tsushima is a worthy farewell to Sony's PS4 exclusives. For those on the fence about it, either ask for it for Christmas or wait until it hits the $19.99 rack. That should push you over.

This game was made by a team that seemed dedicated to providing those who played it with a remarkably smooth, seamless and overall engaging experience. And while it is not a perfect masterpiece by any means, so much of it works perfectly even as the game apes tired tropes from similar games.

Ghost of Tsushima's story is consistently engaging, hard-hitting and nuanced. Without spoiling the game, the most that can be said about it is that it is both memorable and filled with tried, tested and true standards for storytelling - this does not lead it to be filled with cliché story beats, however. In the most praiseworthy way possible, it avoids many tired, overdone tropes without being avant-garde, making it a gripping and powerful tale that does the rest of the game's quality justice.

While the story is fantastic on its own, the game's mechanical stability (its remarkably short load times are particularly impressive), its open world, its fine-tuned, hair-raising combat and its sense of progression are all strengths that this game puts on display at every turn. The allure of some new means of increasing Jin Sakai's strength or adding to his vast array of costume choices draws players to exploring the island of Tsushima - while that kind of bait is interesting enough on its own, the astonishingly beautiful environments beg to be explored in and of themselves.

For all the praise this game has rightfully earned, however, Ghost of Tsushima suffers from what could be called "Naughty Dog Syndrome." The Uncharted-style cliff-climbing occasionally found in this game is so rote and by-the-numbers that it is painful. In a game that thrives upon allowing players to explore feudal Japan as a skilled samurai, this highly restrictive and forced approach to exploration feels like a slap in the face, especially when considering the impact Breath of the Wild recently had on open-world exploration.

A final (minor) nitpick about Ghost of Tsushima worth mentioning is that the game's replay value feels limited. Once Tsushima has been fully explored and the game has been beaten, the only remaining thing that might be worth would be to slay roaming bands of enemies that linger after completion of the main campaign. And despite the game's remarkable combat system, fighting enemies alone (without the felt sense of progression that is accrued via filling out the skill tree) cannot prevent this game from feeling either short or lacking. Having said that, the 40-or-so hours you might derive from Ghost of Tsushima will be thoroughly enjoyable - so little of this game felt like a drag, which, again, speaks to its remarkable quality - a testament to the effort put in by its developers.

Despite the most recent criticisms I have levelled against Ghost of Tsushima, this game is remarkable. It is readily accessible, reasonably challenging without being off-putting, entirely compelling and fascinatingly engaging. Any slight against it is easily countered by a bevy of standout positive qualities, and it is an easy recommendation to just about anyone who enjoys playing video games. It may not have the lasting appeal of some other open-world games (i.e. Skyrim), but it will grip you tightly and unrelentingly all throughout its main campaign, and perhaps even a little longer.

To be frank, there's a big variety of tools when it comes to combat and the feeling of the Katana is EXCELLENT, smooth animations and many abilities to unlock, it's a very enjoyable experience despite the repetitive and shallow mission design which is by far the biggest problem of the game. As for the story, it's simple and predictable with some amazing scenes, and there are some very few likable characters but most of them are forgettable because it feels like, everyone can be Jin Sakai, even though he's a cool character, he doesn't feel like he's his OWN character, he's just a random Samurai, and this goes for every other character in the entire game. In the end, I was left a tiny bit disappointed, because honestly, I couldn't get attached to this game, and I don't understand why, but I will give it a higher score than what it deserves because I really had fun playing it, some scenes were absolutely fantastic and the music was great and that made the whole game better for me. The world is detailed and inspired, characters are extremely well written and their stories are interesting.

It's not short of flaws though. The game feels overall too easy even on hard difficulty and does not encourage you to use the full kit of moves and gadgets at your disposal. I'm played almost to the end with the initial clothing that improves your scouting range and offers no protection without any issue.

The horse is really bad. Not Skyrim bad, but after RDR2 I would expect something more. It has no collisions, can't be hurt or killed, can't trample enemies or animals, can't crash into a tree, nothing. It also jumps on high cliffs like it is nothing, which is a bit unrealistic. It also has the usual "comes out of your ass" mechanic when you call it, which only RDR2 managed to avoid so far.

The AI during stealth phases is plain dumb. You just kill someone from afar with bow/bombs, then hide a bit, rinse and repeat until everyone is dead. There is no actual need to use the assassination skill or anything else.

Overall I would recommend it because despite its shortcomings it manages to keep you glued to the screen and to keep on exploring both the world and the characters stories.

With this being the PS4's final exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima delivers a great story about honor alongside great combat and stealth gameplay.

The story takes place during the Mongol invasion of Tsushima island, with protagonist Jin Sakai being a survivor of the brutal attack on his home after failing to defend it with his samurai army. Jin's uncle Shimura is captured by the enemy while Jin is rescued by a thief, Yuna, who helps him recover. After initially failing to rescue Shimura, Jin decides to work with Yuna and recruits allies to aid in rescuing his uncle and drive the Mongol army away, all the while performing dishonorable actions that go against the samurai code (i.e. killing Mongols through stealth than through normal sword fighting).

The plot deals heavily with the themes of honor and dishonor and is shown through the evolution of Jin's character. He initially is reluctant to assassinate enemies from the shadows, but over time, he becomes more accustomed to these new methods that many would deem shameful. He eventually decides to do whatever it takes to win back Tsushima and sees that honor and the samurai teachings won't be that helpful to him if it means that lives can't be saved at the end of the day. This transformation into his Ghost persona is done well and affects his relationship with his uncle, who disapproves of what Jin becomes. Their relationship is shown in flashbacks where we see how much they care for each other, with their present day relationship slowly deteriorating and souring in between these moments of the past. The ending of their relationship also coincides with the ending of the story, showing how drastic the change to their relationship has been and how they view honor, with both ending on a very bittersweet note.

The game is also remarkably dark and that is displayed through the Mongols. Their leader is easily hateable and performs truly despicable acts in order gain the upper hand in the war. It was a joy to see what happens to him by the game's end and will satisfy players who loathe him. His underlings also do some horrific things to the island's inhabitants. You will regularly see many corpses courtesy of the invaders, who butcher others like animals. They also force villagers to work for them if they wish to live and will take hostages at outposts across the island. They are usually responsible for the deaths, mutilation, (implied) rape, child abuse and killings, torture of many of Tsushima's inhabitants. Their atrocities are on full display here and it cements them as terrifying force that must be annihilated.

The game's side quests also show how bleak the game's tone is. Not all of them will result in happy endings for the quest givers and usually result in innocents being slain, with their loved one having to cope with their passing. One of the only times I laughed during gameplay was during a quest given by Kenji, a character who lies to you in order for you to help him get out of the problems he usually creates. Even he is sad at the passing of a character during the second act. This game is brutal and serious with what it shows and it is wholly unapologetic for it.

Gameplay is divided into two types: normal combat and stealth. Normal combat has you slashing Mongols with a katana while blocking and dodging any incoming attacks. Stealth sees you creeping about and hiding in tall grass and on rooftops, killing Mongols when they aren't looking. Both gameplay styles allow you to use Ghost tools such as kunai and bombs to turn the tide of battle in your favor. You also have windchimes to lure enemies away while in stealth and two different types of bows to use for long range kills.

Your abilities can be upgraded by increasing your legend, which will reward you technique points when your legend meter is filled to a certain point. Filling this meter completely will reset it and allow you to learn one of the aforementioned Ghost weapon techniques. Technique points help you learn skills for combat, stealth and in finding collectibles across the island. These collectibles include fox shrines, bamboo strikes, hot springs, haikus, etc. Further improvements can be done by acquiring and upgrading your armor and weapons. Equipping different armors gives you different benefits like increased health, enemies not hearing you run, enemies taking longer to detect you, etc. Improving armors can improve these benefits and is done by collecting resources like linen, steel, iron, silk. etc. alongside resources (money). The same can be said for upgrading weapons. Upgrading your tanto lets you assassinate Mongols faster, upgrading your katana lets you do more damage with it and upgrading both bows improves their reload speed, stability, etc. You can also improve your ammo pouches for weapons by killing predator animals and taking their hides.

In the end, this game is mostly great to play, though it is mired by its collectibles which are not exciting or fun to collect.

Buen videojuego, recomendable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Ghost of Tsushima is a good game, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. This is a very beautiful and great game. But for some reason the story didn’t catch me. Perhaps a romantic storyline for the protagonist or one of his companions would be useful.
And the question that bothered me throughout the game: why did the central female character not wash her face throughout the entire plot?

On the other hand, combat and exploration are exceptionally entertaining. Overall, The reason I'm giving Ghost of Tsushima an 8 solely resides on my opinion that there could've been more polish to the Artificial Intelligence, which can be downright broken at times (I once ran into an enemy running in circles against the corner of a wall.), stealth mechanics, and maybe a little more character development (I found my self not quite interested in some of the side characters), but with its slick combat and thorough open-world mechanics and details, this is certainly a game I can easily recommend to anybody who's just looking for a good time. The main storyline is fun and quite emotional at times and the villain(s) is/are very memorable and well written.
However, if everything in the game held up this great standard, I wouldn't be giving it an 8/10. There are some issues that I have come across in my roughly 100 hours of playing that I have to mention.
For one, the side quests almost always follow the same scheme: A person is in distress and tells Jin that they were the victims of either bandits or what they think are "spirits and demons" (which almost every time turns out to be bandits or Mongols anyway). Jin then investigates the crime scene and comes across footprints that conveniently lead him to the bandit camp.
The other thing is all the collectibles that are strewn around the vast map. There are just too many different things to collect, such as Mongol artifacts, Records, Crickets, and Banners. Without the traveler's armor or a 3rd party interactive map, I couldn't imagine taking the time to find every last one of them.

And if you're on a trophy hunt like I was, you need to collect all collectibles and finish all side quests in order to 100% the game.

And please, don't take my criticism as me not enjoying the game. I really did and I'm looking forward to picking up the controller again in a few weeks and New Game+-ing this beast.

The only reason it’s not a perfect game for me is because I felt like the main story was a bit short and not as fulfilling enough for me. My dialogue decisions didn’t have much impact on any of the story, and I wish they would have made a deeper mainly story line based on the two different ideological paths you could take. I still rate this game pretty highly as a fun and overall engaging and immersive experience. Definitely a must play. Expand

I thought I'd write this review differently, and list out the nit picks that didn't gel with me in this, because so much of the game is fantastic. Everybody knows by now the game is a winner, so what's not so great in it? Spoilers: game is definitely worth a purchase, If you have a PS4, I say go for it. It runs like a charm even on a base system. It looks breath taking, as many have said already, and a wonder they got it to work the way it does (inc fast loading) on what amounts to 7+ year old hardware at this point.

So, a few things. I dislike that you have so many charms (basically for player builds), but you don’t feel compelled to really try them. Many of them for me were superfluous from really early on, and the ones you do need you'll probably have them equipped the whole game, to never be removed. I thought the dev's could have made the game demand using charms for some parts.

The game combat tips that happen in mid-fight are annoying, if you're in a 'wrong' stance, and they even happened well into the game getting into its last act. Option to turn on/off, please Sucker Punch? Option to have them off by default on hard mode, at least, maybe?

Once you are done with the admittedly engaging main story, there's the side tales, and mystic tales. I have to say, a lot of the side stuff was what I expected it would be. Much of it is very Assassin's Creed model, e.g. go into a fortress, rescue / free someone, liberate fortress, liberate entire Island, find collectibles in fortress, etc.

Let's say you never played an open-world game, or at least not one of the last two Assassin's Creed games, you will be 10/10 blown away by the game as a whole including the whole liberation mechanic. If you've been into AC Odyssey, it's basically more of the same, in a nicer skin, with nicer combat and not as much to get lost in, and there is 'a lot' as it is. What it does mean is it suffers from the same repetition as AC. For instance, there comes a point where liberating a fortress doesn't have the same sort of appeal, you know? And there are around 60 of them if you want to have at it.

I found the touchpad button is used in a really cool way, be it bowing, playing flute, or using the excellent wind navigation mechanic (idea lifted from Zelda - Breath of the Wild). This being said, I found it easy to bow by mistake when using the wind mechanic. It's quite sensitive to doing what you don't ask, because it's a swipe as opposed press. I really liked using touch pad, but it wasn't perfect.

So all in all, in spite of a few nit picks, a very solid open-world game with insane looking art design and visuals, sound, attention to detail, excellent cut scenes, etc etc. For me, it's an 8/10, but for someone less familiar with this type of game, maybe a 9 or a 10. On that basis I'd really recommend it to someone as their first ever open world game. But even those who know open world games will be very impressed by this game.

If I have to compare it, I would say it is a mix of Sekiro, Nioh and Batman Arkham.
Sekiro and Nioh for the fight gameplay and the stances and Batman Arkham for the Combat Flow and the lower difficulty then Souls like games.
But fear not, the Stances in Ghost of Tsushima aren´t tedious, they are optional and way easier to use then in Nioh. So after I got used to them I switched between Stances on the run and had the most fun in this fluent combat for a while.
Honorable mention is, you can sneak up on enemies in Assassins Creed style and try to kill all your enemies without anyone noticing, but the normal combat is way to much fun.

The graphics are beatiful as well, yes it os not as beautiful as The Last of Us 2 BUT that is because Sekiro is a Open World Game (more about that in a bit).
The story as well is a masterpiece on it´s own. At the beginning it seems boring and tedious, but after the first act it really gets SO much better and couldn´t stop playing the story. Emotional Moments, Plot Twists and Surprises, there is something for everybody.

But as mentioned a few sentences before, this game is unfortunately an Open World game.
There are some side missions that contribute to the Main story, but I would guess 70% of the side missions are go to Place A, kill everybody, done or flollow person B, kill everybody, done.
The collectibles and upgrades are also fun to look for in the beginning, but the more you progress the more tedious it gets.

So if Ghost of Tsushima would have had a more linear gameplay it would have been a Game of the Year contender for sure. But with all the Ubisoft-like side mission and collectible design it just isn´t the best game of the year.

A few things hold the game back. The camera control is fairly bad. Lacking in a target lock on aspect makes combat challenging. This can be both good and bad. You can easily get mobbed by enemies and end up dying often because of this. Overall the game is fun. Visually it is stunning.

One of the best games of the year, no doubt. Several things stand out as special in the game - the combat mechanics, the beautiful vistas, the open world and stealth gameplay are all great highlights. This will inspire and change the way open world games are made in the future. Storyline is fairly standard though and the characters are mostly uni-dimensional.

Story: 7/10. It's rather "realistic", kind of has the feel of seeing an inaccurate history enterainment action movie. The characters are kinda weird and the dialogue often awkward. Although I like japanese culture or it might just be me, but this feels no better than the average japanese B movie. I couldn't really bring myself to care much about any character, because their backstories are told very superficially.

I actually agree with the 8.3 average critics review this time. The massive amount of 10/10s are very much over the top from my point of view. It's an enjoyable game that has no real weakness, but no game that doesn't innovate at all should ever get a 100% rating imo. Ghost of Tsushima really does the same old AC/Witcher formula with a Samurai era japanese setting. It does it really well, no doubt.
No GOTY material for me though. That currently goes to Hades for me on PC and FF7R on PS4 unless Cyberpunk 2077 holds up to the hype.

On the one hand you have a by the numbers open world game that straight up copies and pastes with no exaggeration every single open world game mechanic popularized by Ubisoft that you have played about a million times before and on the other hand you have a game with so much attention to detail , really enjoyable combat , a solid story and zero bad business practices

To put it simply this is like I mentioned before yet another open world game . Prepare to travel endless amount of barren land with your horse to go from point A to point B which will inevitably butcher your controller , Find collectibles and challenges that litter the map , clear numerous identical bases to liberate Tsushima , earn skills points to spend them on your skill tree etc. Thankfully there aren't any climb tower to reveal the map challenges . Exclusive to Ghost of Tsushima are the bamboo strikes which are fun to do if not a bit annoying to find , the countless Fox Den's that litter the map and are extremely repetitive , the Haiku's where you make poems which ...OK I guess and last but not least the Hot Springs which give you a bit of health . The good thing about all these generic activities is that they are optional and I barely did any of them ...And that's perhaps the biggest plus of Ghost of Tsushima compared to your typical Ubisoft game

Unlike for example Assassin's Creed Odyssey Ghost of Tsushima is not build with XP packs and microtransactions in mind thus there are no spongy enemies nor level based enemies/quests . If you are skillful and you do the bare minimum of side quests that have consistently good quality you will be more than ready to face everything the game throws at you . I can't stress how delighted I was with this feature . In addition because of the lack of sponge enemies with endless health the combat is incredibly enjoyable as it's based more around good parrying and dodging rather than using overpowered weapons or cheesing the game . In a lot of ways this game from a gameplay perspective reminds me of Assassin's Creed Unity because they share many of the same ideas . Incredibly similar combat , similar progression , identical stealth dodgy AI and all , cool gadgets and armor that gives you different perks depending on how you play . The only big difference would be the fact that Ghost of Tsushima has boss fights that are absolutely awesome and really challenging

As far as the story and character are concerned they are solid . Nothing spectacular thanks to some poor pacing large in part due to it's open world format but it manages to be memorable nonetheless thanks to some incredible set pieces and of course it's really interesting setting . Historical accuracy isn't something I can comment on but I wouldn't be surprised if some things were toned down to match today's sensibilities ..

Ghost of Tsushima is the best Ubisoft like game you will find on the market . It's a game made with a lot of passion and it shows unlike the microtransaction filled woke garbage the latter **** out in the market every year . That being said if you are tired of the Ubisoft format the game will undoubtedly tire you at times ....

The combat is extremely cinematic and makes you feel damned cool. Thank god they included a photo mode.

The only downside for me is that some of the side missions feel a little slow and generic and that there is no lock on system in combat. Considering SuckerPunch is adding multiplayer and various other tweaks inspired by fan feedback I wouldn't be surprised if they add a lock on system at some point though.

P.s. This game received its seal of approval from actual Japanese fans and even historians, so don't pay heed to the white knight western critics who think they know everything and that they're the beacon of hope and light for the downtrodden minorities who clearly can't stand up for themselves or formulate their own thoughts regarding this game. In other words, salty TLOU2 fans.

It really makes you feel like a samurai who has to change his code and fighting style to survive the first Mongol invasion. With regard to gameplay and the open world, the truth is that it brings almost nothing that we have not seen in other games such as the AC saga: collectibles, territories and prisoners to release, places to visit to improve the status of our character, stealth , executions, everything very similar but with a Japanese atmosphere. Some characteristics such as the different combat postures which we must alternate depending on the enemy we face gives freshness to the gameplay. Overall, fantastic story that holds some heavy moments that drive the emotions hard. The voice acting is exceptionally executed, coupled with some of the best written characters ever. However, due to the open world format, the pace does suffer a bit, but not enough to detract away from the adventure.

The visuals and sound are fantastic, the whole island of Tsushima is stunning and a joy to explore. Even the grind that has been introduced is a lot of fun, but again, suffers from the open world format. It does feel like a bit of a chore to run around and collect items, unlock areas, take down outposts etc. The in game activities do fit nicely with the overall theme, but is a bit immersion breaking when some are obviously 'filler'. With that all in mind, the game excels in the combat department. Don't get me wrong, it's more of the 'counter/attacker' game-play we are used to, but feels satisfying with the multiple stances that can be implemented for strategic value.

You would be forgiven for saying this is 'Assassin's Creed Japan', however the story and visuals really do make this one stand out. Ghost of Tsushima does everything it is trying to do very well. It would have been nice to see some more realism or a little more innovation rather than sticking with the same open world gaming we are used to.

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
