Such a fun game. And way bigger than I initially expected. Who thought to include a haiku mechanic? Why do I enjoy it so much??? The environment is amazing. Being able to know what direction you need to head by following the wind is majestic. I am relieved every time I'm galloping too fast through the woods when I hit a tree and come to a stop instead of launching myself into space. I'mSuch a fun game. One of the best games I have ever played. Amazing graphics and gameplay and seamless fighting mechanics. The story was easy to follow and kept my attention all the way through. Can't wait for Legends to come out. And imagine not having to pay for customizations. Great job Sucker Punch keep up the amazing work on the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sucker punch proves us that when it comes to make open world games they are very experienced. The game is very beautiful when it comes at the nature of the island of tsushima they recreated. The flaws in the game yo can commonly find are the AI that is very deficient sometimes. In terms of gameplay it is very detailed and though the camera can give problems sometimes it does not take out the fun and realistic touch when fighting enemies. Also it has a lot of details about the Japanese culture, and throughout the story is very well presented the brutality of the of war. Expand

I honestly had a difficult time deciding on whether this was a 8 or a 9 until i came to a specific realization. I don't buy games full price at the 59.99 price tag. The last game I remember buying full price was Death Stranding and God of War before that. The potential this game had before release earned a buy and its worth every penny.

The last game I remember buying full price was Death Stranding and God of War before that. The potential this game had before release earned a buy and its worth every penny.

Right off the bat my expectations were high past the "Over 9000" mark for this game. To live my Samurai Champloo fantasy while listening to Nujabes was what I didng think I needed until I played this and even then this game exceeded that expectation with the first five minutes and still blew me away with what I found hours later.

Dont play this game on an easy difficulty. In my opinion it'll break the immersion. A man that can be blown up, stabbed a hundred times, and turned into a pincushion for arrows would destroy the stakes the story sets. The combat is fun on higher difficultly, I recommend lethal after getting your feet wet on Hard. It's not Dark Souls level of difficult but still a challenge if you let your guard down or get cornered. A game where an arrow to the chest or single sword swipe across the body can kill you, if in regular clothes, makes sense to me and I like that about a game, especially on lethal mode.

I've faintly stopped to admire the atmosphere of many games just to get to the gameplay but this one had my eyes wide more times than I can count.

The immersion, feeling like a samurai turned into a man doing wahts necessary to push back the Mongals was on point more times than not. At times i did wish that the story would shift depending on play style but nevertheless enjoyed it from start to finish. The story started and ended at the right now while many other open worlds grew boring because they exceed their necessary play time.

I found my bugs funny as hell and immersion breaking at times, but loved my experience, the 60+ hours I've thrust into this game, and walking the land as a Samurai in such an unreal world.

If there was an option for decimal points I would definitely give this game a 9.5, the visuals, soundtrack, combat, story, characters, immersion. Everything is good about this game. It’s a must own for any open world or single player enthusiast. There are some minor bug and polish issues but overall this game is nearly perfect

Ghost of Tsushima is a fantastic game.

The gameplay is fun, the world is beautiful and from what I played so far the story is very solid.

The only problems I have with the game boil down to me nitpicking.

If the climbing mechanics were more open this would be the game I wish Assassin's Creed would have become.

Truly a wonderful game, I recommend it to anyone who owns a PS4.

Ghost of Tsushima is the absolute perfect way to close out this generation of the PlayStation 4. The only thing holding it back from giving it a perfect ten is that the story is nothing spectacular. It's pretty cookie-cutter. It's by no means bad, it just doesn't do anything crazy original. With respects to the handling of activities I still believe games like Witcher 3 did better. The main character you play as fits the setting and allows the player to truly get absorbed in the historical setting. Make sure to take a break once and a while to take in the scenes.

    CONS
The facial expressions and lip syncing during dialogue left some room for improvement. Also during cut scenes, a lot of armor tended to clip through Jins head or helmet. The overall story wasn't anything special, however the ending had me in tears. Most of the side quests were pretty predictable by the end of my playthrough.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable and beautiful experience and a must play for all PS4 owners.
Side note - if I could I would give this game 8.5/10.

This is by far the most beautiful looking game of this generation. In regards to world design, this game is unparalleled. I’ll review 3 elements of the game that stood out to me.

This is by far the most beautiful looking game of this generation. In regards to world design, this game is unparalleled. I’ll review 3 elements of the game that stood out to me.

1.) Story- In all honesty, the story of GOT is best described as simple, yet effective. The story is more grounded/ simple than I would’ve expected or wanted. However, what makes the story stand out are 3 things; characters, dialogue, world building. These are the fundamentals to this story. Characters show real emotion with internal conflicts. Dialogue is exceptionally portrayed(at least in Japanese). And the world design brings this game to life with grand levels of immersion. While the story is solid, there are parts that lower the score. Most notably are the parts in the story that feel rushed. There are times when characters go through great conflict, and they seem to overcome this conflict in a rushed way. There is definitely a minor pacing issue here. Overall, the story is solid and stands as a great portrayal of Japanese intrigue. Verdict: Amazing

2.) Gameplay- This is where the game outshines most in this genre. Combat was clearly the focus of this game. Not only is combat fluid and realistic, but your are also granted so much variety in how you deal with enemies. You have the choice to go running in with your katana or take a more quiet approach with your ghost weapons. You are given a large skill tree with meaningful upgrades to Jins’ arsenal. From different move sets to different weapons, combat never feels boring, but rather excels from the previous upgrade. You can tell that Sucker Punch really did their homework on samurais in the past and how they fought. This game really brings to life the great Samurai way of fighting. The only problem with the combat has to be the most noticeable of problems and that is the lack of a designated lock on feature. There are times when you will miss a target or accidentally hit the wrong target because you aren't able to lock on to your target. It’s small, but noticeable. All in all, the combat excels in comparison to most games’ combat. Verdict: Masterpiece

3.) Technical- First and foremost, GOT is the most beautiful game I’ve played on the PS4, as well as one of the most beautiful games of this generation. Not only is the foliage/landscapes beautiful, but there is so much variety in the terrain. From green grass to beautiful yellow grass to snowy mountains, the game constantly surprises you with its graphics. In regards to music, it’s honestly a beautiful representation of Japanese music. It’s not insane, but it’s just enough to get immersed in of course. As bugs and hics go, this game can have some issues like floating carriages or Jin floating over a ledge. The point is that nothing is game breaking but it can get a little annoying. Verdict: Masterpiece

This game is one of the best that came out this year, and for quite a few reasons.

1: The story is engaging and dramatic. Jin Sakai is wrought with conflict as his home is under siege by the mongol empire, and his point of view on the art of war changes. Therefore, he must abandon what he knows and become a new kind of warrior. One that goes against the code of the samurai. The story is split into multiple arcs with side quests that are just as engaging as the main game and are hardly worth passing. And when the credits rolled, I was actually crying. And very few games can make me do that.

2: The gameplay is tight, responsive, and fun. Switching between sword stances mid-combat to be more effective against enemies with certain weapons makes every fight heart-pumping, and a little bit strategic. And all the unlockable combos via technique points are all useful in some way. And when you're not fighting all-out, you're being a stealthy ghost taking out enemies from the shadows, either with a bow or a dagger, while jumping and swinging with a grappling hook.

3: The appeal of this game can be described in one word: GORGEOUS. This game is so beautiful and massive, with the entire island of Tsushima open to explore. Japan is one of my favorite countries, because it has an intriguing culture and history to share. The way people bow to greet you, the many haikus you can compose, the authentic 13th century buildings you can walk around, both outside and inside, sequences with sliding doors to open, etc.

The only gripe I have with this game is the performance. It generally runs at 30 FPS, but will sometimes drop into the mid-teens. The first time I experienced frame drops was during a cutscene, and the final time I experienced frame drops during my first playthrough was near the end of the third act, when you're facing Khotun Khan. But, luckily, the frame drops aren't exactly game-breaking, and the game hasn't crashed on me a single time.

Do I recommend this game? Absolutely. This game is freaking awesome, and I enjoyed every second playing it.

Jin or 'the ghost' is a great protagonist and at first comes of a bit generic but grows as a character as you progress the the game.
the first act is a bit slow as it basically just introduces the side characters. Yuna is a great companion and is an interesting character, Lord Shimura is a very well written character and is Jin's main father figure in the game (Jin watched his father die when he was young).
The combat is perhaps the best part about this game. The combat is exciting and offers a lot of potentially badass moments. As you progress through the story you unlock new skills, stances, and weapons, which helps the combat feel refreshing and stops it becoming too repetitive.
I don't want to spoil to much about this game so I will keep this review short. I hope you found this review helpful.

Didn't really watch the trailers, I just knew it was samurai related but it's so much more. I was hooked on feudal Japan, fighting Mongols, following foxes and birds, cleaning up camp by camp, etc. My second fav game after RDR2 of the PS4 generation.

The game has near to perfect combat, a beautiful looking open world, a amazing story with many good characters and everything fits really good in the samurai theme. The missions are a bit repetitive( its mostly talking, walking and fighting) but still the main part of the missions are very fun and there are not many games that that deliver big fights so good.

Suckerpunch really put the player first with this game, and it shows. The only complaint is that there may not be enough gameplay variety to satisfy players indefinitely.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The most satisfying aspect of the game is the RPG aspects actually paying off over time. I feel like most RPGs nowadays are incredibly lazy. Rather than evolving combat or introducing new enemy types to maintain challenging gameplay while your character levels up, most games that I've played utilize level-scaling. What's the point of leveling up if the rest of the world levels up with you? Why is the same bad guy I fought when I was level 1, equally challenging to fight when I'm level 200 (looking at you AC)?! In Ghost of Tsushima, just as bandits start to get trivial, you get to act II where new enemies are introduced (no spoilers), then as you progress and the act II enemies are starting to be a piece of cake... you get to act III and enemies are incredibly well armored and organized in groups that have a wide array of weaponry that can cause any fight to go south quick if you make a single mistake. But at any time late in the game, if you stumble upon bandits (the main enemies from act I), you'll see how much more powerful you have become via your playthrough as you slice through them. It's incredibly satisfying.

The story is a fresh tale that has many organic story telling elements that derive from Japanese legend. It is carefully weaved and sewn into the game with such finesse that even minor side missions will leave an impact on you. Upgrade system is well structured and is fitting when you max out your abilities, you earn the title of the Ghost. Voice acting is also superb, every emotional syllable is delivered with such raw emotion and tone that it's easily one of the standouts of the game. The side objectives and collectibles are done with such care, it didn't feel like the usual chore such as other monotonous games decide to include to pad the game time. SuckerPunch was the Developer that kept giving by providing a free Co-Op Multiplayer mode that required skill, communication and patience but resulted in much fun with a well executed game modes and concepts. The New Game+ feature that was also added was just the cherry on top.

The rare minor criticisms that I have of the game is that the text or other HUD icons would duplicate shadows around the vicinity of it's origin when sprinting making the gorgeous scenery somewhat tainted. Also, despite me praising the collectibles earlier I will note that there is too many and treads alone the line of becoming overwhelming. On the plus side not all collectibles need to be found in order to receive the coveted Platinum Trophy. The Hook mechanic seems to be very finicky and seems to be responsive only 3/4 of the time resulting in missed jumps to death. Also objectives in Legends are transparently convey, I had to resort multiple walkthrough to understand how to progress further in the chapters.

Overall, fantastic game with minor setbacks. One of the freshest single player open world games I've played in years.

A key element that really need applause is the combat. This is no button mashing game, and the combat is intelligent and requires thought, especially as you progress through the game and unlock abilities and other elements. My only gripe (and it is small and in no way takes away from a fantastic game) is that some of the additional tasks in the game (finding pillars etc) sometimes felt like a tick box exercise but again that is so minor. As someone who felt utterly punished by Sekiro (I had to sell it after a few hours play), this game delivers everything I wanted from a historical RPG in that world. Expand

It's very exotic and immersive. Also, I loved being immersed into traditional Japanese values and codes, it's a real lesson of humility which brought me to reflexions.
But the game is not perfect : among all the NPC's in the game, there's only a few models, so every person you'll save or meet will seem to be the same every time. It's sad because it can ruin immersion, which is very cool otherwise.

Some critical reviews marked it down for lacking in originality but I don't care. A game doesn't have to be groundbreaking to be great. Yes GOT obviously draws a lot of inspiration from games that have come before such as Horizon and God of War but that isn't a bad thing.
The main questline, voice acting and writing were again fantastic. Every time I stopped playing I couldn't wait to get back in and progress the story to see what happened next.
One of my favorite games ever!

Everything is stunning about the game. The gameplay is fun and addicting. The story and characters are dynamic and interesting. The Island of Tsushima is gorgeous. It's an amazing game that truly makes you feel like the savior of Tsushima.

By far one of the best games I have ever played. I would recommend to any one. This game is massive in content and will keep one busy for a long while. The story is very engaging and has many likable characters. The side missions and side objectives are a little on the weaker side but still very enjoyable. There is much to do in this game and great for someone who is a completionist as theBy far one of the best games I have ever played. I would recommend to any one. There is much to do in this game and great for someone who is a completionist as the game keeps tracks of what there is left to do. The skills unlocked through leveling up are worth while to work for. The combat in this game is superb and will complement the play style of any player. The combat slows smoothly and the change in stance for corresponding enemies is a very unique and excellent feature. The combat is by far my favorite part of the game. As I have said, I recommend this game to any play who is able to play it. Expand

With the exception of Persona 5 Royal, this has to be my favorite PS4 exclusive released this year. I managed to Platinum the game with a total playtime of 66.5 hours, with my only issue being certain collectibles being locked behind inaccessible areas due to the completion of the story. I think it's a great effort by Sucker Punch and the critic scores don't do the game any justice.

The best samurai game in a long time and a great fun for all, who love action. Love for Japan and its history is a big plus, but its knowledge is not necessary to enjoy every minute of this beautiful game. [Issue#305]

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
