As an east asian I think SP did a good job on the story, art and culture design on this game. The few large scale battles and infiltration missions are quite exciting. Overall this game got me interested and engaged throughout the game but not good enough for me to replay it (compared to Spiderman, or RDR2, or even Jedi: Fallen Order, which at least has a sandbox arena mode). Will rescore if an NG+ comes out with new features. Expand

This game is one of the best this year. I absolutely loved the combat. The story was just as good. It was a bit glitchy at first but not a major issue. The world is so beautiful and I can just get lost in it. A must play.

Sucker Punch really knocked it out of the park with this one.

Ghost of Tsushima is an incredible game. The environment of the game world is absolutely stunning, it amazes me with the level of visuals they can squeeze out of the now dated hardware. The combat is extremely satisfying and the animations are really top notch. It makes every strike of the sword feel weighted and purposeful.

It rewards those who like to explore with items that can be found to further customize Jins armor, the look as well as amazing vistas and scenery. The fact you can play the majority of this game without a HUD just further immerses you into the game world.

But a good game is nothing without a great and engaging story and this is where Ghost of Tsushima really shines. The story is fantastic and emotionally engaging. It does a great job of emotionally investing you into the main characters stories and Jins challenge with his Samurai honor. I don't want to reveal any spoilers so I will stop there.

I honestly can't recommend this game enough and it's an experience that will stick with me for a long time. I am just looking for excuses to play it through again, here to hoping for a New Game +.

In the meantime I eagerly await the newly announced 'Legends' multiplayer add on.

It is AN ABSOLUTE BLAST. I haven't finished the game yet, but EVERY single time I play, I play for way longer than I should cause this game is an absolute blast. It makes you feel like a badass blade master pretty early on, and in introducing new NPC types does so interestingly and plausibly (no flying shock troopers). This game is so much fun, everyone should own it, and for a first play through, this game is a must play. It hasn't made me feel anything at all (except that I love Yuna), but it is fun, and easy, and a good adventure action game. It's just a blast. Story: I don't focus on the story in games much because they are usually pretty bland but I liked the characters in this game and I found myself actually following the plot.

Now, lets get to the cons. The side activities (not the side missions) got really repetitive after a few hours. I never thought I could hate chasing something after a few hours, but I do now. The enemy tracking is **** ridiculous, you could be on the other side of Tsushima and some dude could glide towards you at mach 5 speed. THERE ARE TRAILING MISSIONS IN THIS GAME, that’s a sin on its own. Finally, the camera made me just want to turn off the game. That **** has died from 15 seizures and 21 strokes, just to revive and do it all over again. Its worse than Gravity Rush 2’s camera. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game really blew my mind; at first I wasn’t interested in the game everyone was hyped and waiting for this game while I forgot that it was even a game in development, so one day my brother and I saw a playthrough and my brother wanted to buy it because his birthday was coming up and I was like “ok :“, he bought it and I was like “let’s give it a try”, I wasn’t really feeling it at the beginning but through the course of the game I began to understand why people were so excited for this, it has a really good story about how the samurai code can have flaws and get you to defeat, it explains that, it’s better to save a lot of people by doing the wrong way than save a little amount of people the right way. I will say graphics not that good compared to Tlou2 but story wise well that’s on another level, one thing that was repetitive and tedious were the fox shrines but that affects my rate as my interest in tlou2 story, none. 10/10 game would recommend ummend if you are the singleplayer type of guy/woman. Incredible game! Many trolls compare it to assassin's creed but the difference is like night and day. Open world environment, main quests and side quests keeps you entertained for hours. Sure some side quests are repetitive but not to the point of being exhausting like AC. And there are varied stories and situations behind these side quests.

I was originally going to give the game just a high 8 because the story and gameplay are amazing but the camera is clunky sometimes and the auto tracking system for combat could be tighter like in the arkham games or Spider-man PS4. I'm giving it a 10 strictly because of the review bombing from salty tlou2 fans

This game is breathtaking to just look at first off. The world is just great to explore just for the sake of it. The story is exciting for the most part, the combat is fun and engaging (though stealth isn't too satisfying), and the characters are all very good.

The only place this game really faulters is in its open world design. While i still find enjoyment out of worlds like this, this game uses many of the same elements that too many open world games use these days. A lot of missions tend to get very repetitive, especially when it comes to the many side missions. Many either boil down to traveling to an area to kil enemies or tracking a person that leads to more enemies or even the occassional fetch quest.

That being said, the game adds enough new elements in the mix to make it stand out. When it comes to exploring, you may come across an animal that leads you to an area of interest, and even the repetitive side quests all tend to have some kind of interesting narrative to them, even if they're present for just a few minutes.

Overall, this one of my favorite games of the year and I recommend it for anyone who likes action games.

I honestly had a difficult time deciding on whether this was a 8 or a 9 until i came to a specific realization. I don't buy games full price at the 59.99 price tag. The last game I remember buying full price was Death Stranding and God of War before that. The potential this game had before release earned a buy and its worth every penny.

Right off the bat my expectations were high past

The last game I remember buying full price was Death Stranding and God of War before that. The potential this game had before release earned a buy and its worth every penny.

Right off the bat my expectations were high past the "Over 9000" mark for this game. To live my Samurai Champloo fantasy while listening to Nujabes was what I didng think I needed until I played this and even then this game exceeded that expectation with the first five minutes and still blew me away with what I found hours later.

Dont play this game on an easy difficulty. In my opinion it'll break the immersion. A man that can be blown up, stabbed a hundred times, and turned into a pincushion for arrows would destroy the stakes the story sets. The combat is fun on higher difficultly, I recommend lethal after getting your feet wet on Hard. It's not Dark Souls level of difficult but still a challenge if you let your guard down or get cornered. A game where an arrow to the chest or single sword swipe across the body can kill you, if in regular clothes, makes sense to me and I like that about a game, especially on lethal mode.

I've faintly stopped to admire the atmosphere of many games just to get to the gameplay but this one had my eyes wide more times than I can count.

The immersion, feeling like a samurai turned into a man doing wahts necessary to push back the Mongals was on point more times than not. At times i did wish that the story would shift depending on play style but nevertheless enjoyed it from start to finish. The story started and ended at the right now while many other open worlds grew boring because they exceed their necessary play time.

I found my bugs funny as hell and immersion breaking at times, but loved my experience, the 60+ hours I've thrust into this game, and walking the land as a Samurai in such an unreal world.

    Intro
From the developer behind Sly Cooper and Infamous franchise comes an unusual departure from the status quo that Sucker Punch Studios is normally accustomed to. A historic fiction game about samurai overcoming the Mongol empire. Samurai games are nothing new to the world of video games but ever since its announcement, I hoped that Sucker Punch could put enough of their own spin on the genre to make something truly special. To my surprise, Sucker Punch has succeeded in most areas that would make this game a hit.

    Story – 3/3
Jin Sakai, the main protagonist, is tasked to take out a new threat as the Mongols grow ever more brutal. Most of Jin’s closest allies are taken out within minutes, leaving him as one of the last of his kind. Conflicted on whether he should defeat this new threat with honorable samurai tactics or using more questionable methods. It’s an entertaining story about the inner conflict within Jin Sakai and the sacrifices that he might have to make to save his people. Normally most stories within a Feudal Japan era never keep my interested but I was on the edge of my seat for all of the 20-hour adventure. If you’re in it for the story, this is a must-play adventure.

    Gameplay – 3/4
This is your standard hack and slash affair or so it seems when you first start out. The game consists of having buttons for light and heavy attacks along with blocking/parry moves. The real fun is when learning on how to weave different stances together to make Jin truly unstoppable. Each stance can be switched on the fly and each one is super effective on one particular enemy. Even on hard difficulties, this game feels balanced as it will only kick your ass if you have no clue on how to use the systems put in place. Open world exploration is the best I have seen in any game due to the natural ways you can discover things within the world. Winds blowing in the direction of your objective, foxes and birds guiding you to secrets within the world. You get a sense of how beautiful this world can be and shows you some more peaceful moments before the chaos happens. The only thing I had an issue with was the smaller side missions. There are 3 types of missions, story missions, characters side missions, and regular side missions. The character side missions are a lot of fun as they expand on characters within the main story and give them more to do but regular side missions were bland. The game's full run time of 60 to 70 hours was stretch a bit thin if you’re going to 100% completion. Ghost of Tsushima is still fun in the gameplay department, just expect for it to get a bit bland near the ended mark.

    Technical – 2/3
The graphics are pretty good. On the level of 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn when comparing it to another open-world game. Glitches happen every now again like attacks phasing through enemies or QTE showdowns getting stuck by enemies walking away instead of staying in place. Music is really good but nothing I would seek out after playing the game. Its pretty polish and on the level you would expect from a Sony first-party title.

    Verdict
Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing samurai game that gets so close to masterpiece status. An engaging story, interesting gameplay mechanics, and amazing open-world design greatly overpower small problems like lackluster side missions and small technical hiccups. This is a must-buy if you own a PS4 as this game will go down as the perfect send-off for AAA games on the PS4.

Alright, first impression was "wow, nice". The game has great graphics, the combat is at first glance awesome and has a very nice flow in it and it's actually very enjoyable because of that. The big plus-point of this game was the great open-world, detailed made and it's supposed to be immersive without any serious HUD.

But that's it. The game is REALLY REALLY BORING AF. Once you get through the hack-slash-parry flow combat, that's where the fun stops. The story is cliche, characters are totally uninteresting and the dialogues are terrible. I seriously don't care at all what happens next, it's all about go kill some guys, get a stupid boring dialogue, go kill more guys. That sums it up for the "open-world" as well. Besides some uninteresting collectibles, there's nothing else to do besides "go from A to B, kill people, boring cut scene".

Unless you are a hardcore samurai fanboy/girl, the game isn't that good. Don't pay the full price.

Easily the best game of the year so far and the best game I've played since The Witcher 3. They just need a game mode somewhere between hard and ultra hard. Still, hard mode can be challenging and ultra hard is basically no hit which I had fun with even though it's frustrating.

Yes, the game is beautiful but what else? Well the combat isn't that excellent but it wasn't bad, it kept me going and slaughtering the enemy in the early game with honor and in the late game I became a ghost who introduced my tanto to their backs. But the duels were fun, I loved them since they striped you away from your ghost weapons and leaving you with the skills that will use your limited amount of resolve and your basic attacks. Admittedly the late game duels can be as easy as you want with Ghost stance but honestly I think it's on purpose, since at this point you are at your strongest so of course you should be able to demolish your enemies.
The main story had it's moments, mainly being the ones where Jin had to turn his back to everything he had or was going to have. Unless you play it with Japanese, there is a huge lack of emotion and the incorrect subtitles annoyed me more than I want to admit. The side stories were good-ish but the side missions that were given by random peasants tended to be tedious, walk there kill some mongols, return to the peasant, either find out that they lied or mongols killed them.
The music was also enjoyable, and I think it was well made.
Honestly I'm just trying as hard as I can to nitpick bad things in the game so I think 10 is warranted, while not perfect it's one of the best games I have played in years. Sure there were some things I wished they would have done, especially after 100% the game. Maybe a small mythic tale type of ending for Jin's and Yuna's stories.
Small suggestion, play it as RPG start embracing the ghost side when the story also does so it feels more awesome.

The game is very beautiful when it comes at the nature of the island of tsushima they recreated. The flaws in the game yo can commonly find are the AI that is very deficient sometimes. In terms of gameplay it is very detailed and though the camera can give problems sometimes it does not take out the fun and realistic touch when fighting enemies. -Boss duels are great with an epic standoff before each bout.

-Decent immersion for exploration with the guiding wind, but it gets old eventually. Nice touch though.

-Can also forget stealth and call out enemies for a standoff, which is pretty cool. I like how the game gives me the choice with how to deal with a particular situation. Go stealthy or march right up to the gate and call out the fiercest warrior of the group for a one on one showdown. Very epic.

-Exploration is also fairly solid. The game does not hold your hand as much as other open world games and there are some nice environments to discover.

And although there many little great details that add to overall enjoyment of this game, like lots of outfit customizing, in the end the game suffers from much of the same faults that the open world rpg genre is known for.

-Not enough variety in missions and side missions are basically all the same variation of one mission.
    -
Tailing missions are here. Tail an enemy to a location without being seen. Boring and dumb. Overall the structure of the missions are very similar to Ubisoft open world titles with some small exceptions. Ie., go to location and free outpost, save hostages, etc, etc,. Unique missions are quite low in number.

-Enemies are very low on variety and it's gets to the point were you are just bored. You will see guys with swords, Swords and Shields, bows, and spear type weapons. Eventually bomb throwers appear too but they are basically archers. For each type, there is also a Brute variant, which is basically a big version of the aforementioned types. And that's it. It gets old fighting these same old guys non stop.

-Craftable loot has made into this game as well. Gather up tons of stuff to upgrade gear. It's tedious now and forever. Also, tons of collectibles lying around that are absolutely pointless like in any other open world game.

-Platforming is very basic and gimicky. Nothing new here.

-Stealth is very by the numbers. If you've played AC series you know what to expect. Hid in tall grass or on a rooftop and then stab guys in the back. Unlock more powers like stab two people at once, LOL. Then unlock option to stab THREE people in the back. More LOLs. The one cool thing is you can stab guys through bamboo doors. It never gets old. But the rest is just blah. AI is dumb as a rock. It's more fun to approach openly and duel and skip the stealth part.

-Oh yeah, there are forced stealth sections, LOL.

There are a few other minuses but honestly, the immersion, story, and swordplay really make the game shine, and it's polished. I have not seen any bugs. Not one so far. It's very solid Samurai epic with a lot of style, so I can definitely recommend a buy here. I just really wish one these companies would figure out a way to overhaul the mission structure in these open world games. The genre really needs to move forward. Zelda:BOTW and RDR2 did it better, but this is still a very solid game.

This is the game all the other open world stealth/fighting games want to be but did not achieve. Truly amazing gameplay, swordplay and stealth. A emmersive storyline with good characters and good voice acting on top. It’s up there with Zero Dawn and mgsV. And the navigation system is hands down the cleanest you will ever find. In fact, most other games should consider adopting it. LastlyThis is the game all the other open world stealth/fighting games want to be but did not achieve. Boring story, very boring side quests but the combat system is okay. There are too less details in this game and it seems that sucker punch didn't pay any effort

The best samurai game in a long time and a great fun for all, who love action. Love for Japan and its history is a big plus, but its knowledge is not necessary to enjoy every minute of this beautiful game. [Issue#305]

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
