Exceptionally fun game. Yes that’s right fun. Not political or trying to be a social commentary. The fact TLOU2 got in the 90s and this the 80s just goes to show the horrible direction games might go but show the love for this. It’s a game full of life and fun, exploration and wonder.

The only negative for me has been the camera angle in some fights and the stealth which isn’t as good

Absolutely incredible game. World looks amazing and is very immersive. Combat is very smooth and feels very engaging. Main story is a bit short but plenty of side content to do that while optional, still feels like it ties into the main narrative and doesn't feel like a chore to do. My advice is to take your time with the game because it is all a blast to play.

    my only two complaints

my only two complaints are the lack of a lock on feature in combat which can cause the camera to occasionally go behind objects in the world so you cant see where enemies are, and walking across the tightropes or slack lines can be clunky.

overall i haven't been this enticed and engaged by a single player title since Horizon Zero Dawn. incredible game.

You’ll explore the gorgeous and beautifully crafted island of Tsushima, duel lone Ronin and Mongol Generals, hone your combat skills, help those in need, and employ unconventional tactics against your enemies. So, let’s dig right in.

I can’t say this enough, but the visuals are absolutely incredible. Watching the silhouette of your figure against the backdrop of a setting sun during a duel or traversing the world is nothing less than cinematic…it’s that good. If you want the best combat experience and the motivation to better yourself at it, then I highly suggest playing on Lethal. Being aware of the enemies around you and where they are, timing your dodges and parries, switching between stances to deal with certain enemy types, taking advantage of the terrain and using every tool at your disposal is paramount to surviving each battle. Taking even a single hit spells trouble, but you’re also just as dangerous if your execution is spot on. The ability to confront and control each fight as you see fit is invigorating: stealth, range, or toe to toe; it’s your choice. By exploring you'll stumble upon locations (hot springs, bamboo strikes, etc.) that increases health or gives you some really cool cosmetic items. Last but not least, the story is just effin’ badass: you begin as a broken and beaten samurai who is forced to go against everything he stands for to overcome the overwhelming odds, and through his actions, becomes the stuff of legends and becomes revered and feared by everyone.

No game is without flaws, and I think my biggest one with it is the repetitiveness. The main and side stories are definitely great and enthralling, but between those stories, exploring the world can kind of feel empty. Your options are pretty limited: hunt down sites that increase your stats, engage in combat with bandits or Mongol patrols, or continue on with the story. The first time I came across a small village that had been untouched by the Mongols with people going about their business, I became excited because I might get the opportunity to talk to them and hear what they have to say. But, I quickly realized that, although you can talk to a select few of the villagers, they would only offer you vague hints of game mechanics. I was hoping that I could talk to everyone and gain some small insight on the story, lore, whatever; but instead, you come across these villages, look for resources, then move on. I was disappointed because there was so much potential to build this world the developers have created even further.

Here’s the bottom line, Ghost of Tsushima is just an awesome game. The game does so many things right, and I know you’ll have as much as a blast with it as I have. If you’re a fan of old school samurai movies and great storytelling, then look no further than this.

The Combat on the game is really good too how each fight you have to switch your stance in order to defeat enemies and how you chose to engage the enemy is down to you choice you can either take them out stealth wise which can be very Satisfying or you can fight them head on and that's another thing I want to point about this game when it comes to the story of this game at the end you have a choice on what you want to do at the end of the game something we never got on TLOU 2.

That aside I really enjoyed this game a lot It had pretty much everything I wanted to see on a video game and in my opinion Ghost of Tsushima is the real Game of the year.

This is not the end of a generation I imagined on ps4.
At first TLOU2 was very disappointing, and now the ghost did not live up to expectations, but still better than TLOU2.
The first thing I didn't like was the very drawn-out plot with a bunch of monotonous outposts "hello Yubisoft". And on the whole the plot is extremely strange if the main plot was shrunk a little and the map was shrunk to the size of the first act and everything would be much better “where does this bad desire to stretch the plot as much as possible? Or do you think the more hours you need to complete the better? "
The second is the graphics and I'm not talking about the landscapes, they are really very beautiful, but about the detail to take the traces, they appear extremely rarely, in particular, they are on some roofs of houses.

Journeying through cliffs to reach a high up shrine, following foxes to your destination, or letting the wind or the birds guide you through the picturesque landscapes is always enjoyable. The lack of a mini-map made for more natural navigation. Combat is awesome, one on one duels being epic high points throughout the story. The difficulty of the non-duel combat is not overwhelming, but it tends to encourage you to embrace the underhanded tactics of the Ghost to come out on top, as opposed to "honorably" facing a horde of mongols on your own. The melancholy atmosphere of a people under siege is always present and while the game is not depressing or too sad to play, there are few happy moments sprinkled throughout the war-torn tales. Jin is a very composed man character, slow to show emotion, always trying to control himself, as are a few of the supporting characters. Others have very different personalities that shine through. I enjoyed the main story, if somewhat repetitive between Act I and Act II. I felt the ending was quite fitting and satisfactory. Overall, one of the best games I've played. Amazing final exclusive for the PS4. Expand

If you are on the fence about this one ... just buy it. The game is amazing! I'll be honest, I had never heard of it prior to playing it. The Ghost of Tsushima has stunning graphics, awesome gameplay and a storyline full of struggle but always intertwined with hope. It was fun to develop as a character and having to choose between the samurai code and the way of the ghost. If I had anything bad to say about it ... well, I just didn't want it to end. I'm giving it a 10 because I am not a game critic/reviewer. I loved the story, the gameplay and had a blast. And I thought the game was worth the $60 spent. That's good enough for me to give it high praise. Expand

The world is detailed and inspired, characters are extremely well written and their stories are interesting.

It's not short of flaws though. The game feels overall too easy even on hard difficulty and does not encourage you to use the full kit of moves and gadgets at your disposal. I'm played almost to the end with the initial clothing that improves your scouting range and offers no protection without any issue.

The horse is really bad. Not Skyrim bad, but after RDR2 I would expect something more. It has no collisions, can't be hurt or killed, can't trample enemies or animals, can't crash into a tree, nothing. It also jumps on high cliffs like it is nothing, which is a bit unrealistic. It also has the usual "comes out of your ass" mechanic when you call it, which only RDR2 managed to avoid so far.

The AI during stealth phases is plain dumb. You just kill someone from afar with bow/bombs, then hide a bit, rinse and repeat until everyone is dead. There is no actual need to use the assassination skill or anything else.

Overall I would recommend it because despite its shortcomings it manages to keep you glued to the screen and to keep on exploring both the world and the characters stories.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished this game and overall it was fairly good. The landscape was great looking but nothing groundbreaking. The story was an interesting period piece but the plot is stretched thin at times. For the aspects outside gameplay I would give this game an 8.5 . The gameplay itself became a grind like alot of these open world games. The controls were a little weird for me. The side missions start to get tedious. There was no need for the foxes, pillars and haikus. It was just boring busy work. Some of the main missions are more interesting than others. The mongol territories were very Far Cry style, although I did enjoy the bonus aspect added to each. The duels were frustratingly easy even on the hardest setting, especially after playing Sekiro recently. I give it a 6/10, same as I gave the last Far Cry. RDR2 was a little bit better even with all the grinding, and Horizon Zero Dawn was the last time i truly enjoyed a game like this. Expand

It's fun, but I found it too easy. I played on hardest mode and only found some of the duels challenging in Act 2. The ghost weapons are all too strong in my opinion. It is one of the few games I've platinumed. That being said, it's really pretty and the art is great. The controls are good. The story is fine, and the game is still quite fun most of the time.

-The story can be pretty slow in some points. It has highlights...but in the end..I don't think it was worth it..until the end..which i did like.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Positives:

-It obviously looks amazing..the photo mode is right up there with Red Dead 2/HZD.
    -Great feel/atmosphere

-As long as you're not fighting in a confined space..the combat is excellent..especially the duels!

-Ishikawa I felt should have had more screen time..easily the best side character.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This game just needs more to do. More meaningful stories..let people create their own duel...not (as much as I like him/her) find the fox 40 times and save 300 random people.

With that said..some of it is a lot of fun..even clearing 5 dozen camps and Jin is a good character to work with in the future...but a game that lacks more meaningful content once the main/side stories are done..doesn't deserve a 9.3 imo and think both recent Infamous titles were better

Maybe this is relevant but I haven’t watched any samurai movies or played any other Japanese based games. I found all the characters in Ghost of Tsushima to be one dimensional and bland. None of the characters are intriguing and their stories didn’t interest me either. The main story was also quite short, predictable, cliched and it just didn’t grip me as much as I was hoping it would. There are some goofy and corny moments in the game that made me cringe but then it dawned on me that Sucker Punch Production games tend to be like this in general. I just can’t vibe with that.

In regards to the open world, there’s barely any attention to detail and you’ll notice a lot of low resolution environmental textures. The physics are weird and outfits that have capes will blow around with such force INDOORS that it sticks out like a sore thumb. The open world also feels really empty and all the NPCs are lifeless and static. It’s just not an immersive game even though it tries to be. There are many more gripes that I have with Ghost of Tsushima like the laughably bad (and unskippable) cutscenes, animations, camera, braindead ai, etc. It just feels lazy and low effort if I’m being honest and you can tell a lot of corners were cut. It doesn’t feel like an AAA game at all. I uninstalled it straight away after completing it even though I tend to revisit other open world games despite completing them.

Ghost of Tsushima is the absolute perfect way to close out this generation of the PlayStation 4. The only thing holding it back from giving it a perfect ten is that the story is nothing spectacular. It's pretty cookie-cutter. It's by no means bad, it just doesn't do anything crazy original. Much like Naughty Dog had progression from platforming with Crash Bandicoot, to Jak & Daxter, and arriving to large storytelling with Uncharted & The Last of Us, Sucker Punch has done the same. Sly Cooper served as their foundation, Infamous was honest fun, and now Ghost of Tsushima surpasses them both and pushes them to that same level of masterful storytelling. Ghost of Tsushima is an absolute beauty. The gorgeous environments are so breathtaking I could spend another month just riding around the beautiful island of Tsushima, seeing falling leaves, crashing waves, and adorable foxes. Being put in the shoes of a lovable main character in Jin adds another level of joy as he struggles with the concept of right and wrong based from how he was raised versus how the pain of war unfolds. Along the way you meet many characters with their own side quest lines, and honestly they were equally as enjoyable as the main story.

The combat in this game was also perfection; Sucker Punch clearly learned a lot from both Sly Cooper and Infamous and put them both to work here, mixing elements of hack and slash with stealth and techniques, this game truly was perfection from beginning to end. It's also very generous with checkpoints and giving you a bit of health if you keep dying at any portions.

If I have any complaint at all about this game, it's only a minor gripe about some of the side-quests and some of the main narrative. This is not a happy game; it has beautiful moments and things that make you smile, but this is war and war is not pretty, and sometimes the side-quests reflect this by being terribly depressing with no good feels to walk away with, and I do prefer a bit of balance. But that really is a tiny drop in the a large beautiful ocean that is Ghost of Tsushima. If you only play one game in 2020, let it be this one. It could very well be Game of the Year. I definitely want to see a sequel!

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
