It is heart breaking to see that a masterpiece like GoT has only gotten an aggregate score of 83 among the critics reviews which is not the score it deserves at all. The 9.2 score among almost 18000 reviews from User score reflects perfectly how players feel about this game. GoT is fantastic, an amazing achievement from start to finish. It's one of the best games I have ever played and is only the 4th game I have ever platinumed in my life (2 others are also Sucker Punch games, shows you how much I appreciate this company). The critic focuses on the fact that this game is another sandbox game that is being tossed out to us every few months, etc... But this is not true. Sucker Punch has perfected the formulae and not one moment in my 100 hrs playthrough have I ever felt bored or wanted to stop. I always had this urge of wanting to know what's coming next.
The combat is excellent and the more you play the more you will perfect your moves and technics. You have a large arsenal of Ghost weapons at your disposal and I felt the need of using them all during my encounters with the Mongols. They are all useful and needed in different situations. The stealth sections are very well implemented and fun, not tedious at all, and the different equipment you find throughout your journey (mainly armors) are needed for different playstyle. You'll have to use them all. The Skill tree is varied and assigning the right point to the right skill will make a lot of difference.

The world, Oh man the world. What a wonderful island Tsushima is. The Graphics on the PS4 which is a 7 years old hardware are the best you'll ever find on last gen console. It is unbelievable that the PS4 can still achieve this level of details in 2020. You'll have to see it to believe it, provided you play on a 4k UHD TV, and on the PS4 Pro (my settings).

    The Story:
The story is great and engrossing from start to finish. It tells the tale of a young Samurai who has to struggle when his island is being invaded by ruthless Mongols (I think in the 11th or 12th century) and their merciless leader Khotun Khan. Naturally, the story has a lot of twists and heart breaking moments that I won't spoil. However, it is very well written, well acted and captivating until the end. There are a lot of side missions that aim to show you the torment of the people of Tsushima during the invasion and they are all interesting. The game has hundreds of collectibles in the form of Fox Den to be found, Banners scattered around the world to collect, lighthouses to be lit, and dozens more. All of them reward you with different equipment/perks/skills etc.. They are interesting and equally important to find.

The loading time is the fastest you'll ever find on a game of this scale on the PS4. In a matter of seconds you load from the start screen to the game. And during the game it is even faster to reload if you die or want to fast-travel. it feels like a next gen game. I don't know how Sucker Punch were able to achieve that. But this is also an indication of how much the game is polished and runs well. Bugs are almost inexistent and the game had never crashed once during my playthrough.

    tl;dr
I highly recommend GoT. It is a highly polished, well written, well made game with fantastic graphics and an amazing world to explore. If you like open world games where you will sink dozens of hours of your life, do not hesitate and buy GoT.

The world of GoT is wrought with things to do and solid instances of combat. Where the game is dragged down for me is the story, where it is just as by the book as it is uninteresting. I had more fun going after the Platinum trophy than completing the actual story. I sold back this game because I knew I would never play it again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I also think the progress going from samurai to the ghost, is not emphasized enough. Killing everybody in the shadow or following the samurai code do not change anything in the game, not even some dialogues.
The game is still good, but to be perfect it should have stay true to its idea, and not becoming a classic open world game that look a lot like a good assassin's creed.

Story: nothing revolutionary. It is a nice story about honor, which you can expect from a samurai story. Dividing it up into different acts makes it interesting as you seem to work towards an achievable goal.

Open world: the world in GoT is beautiful, some parts are breathtaking. The only negative is that there aren't much recognizable parts like in other open world games. It does create some spectacular settings though, especially for special combat scenes that are very cinematic.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable game that lets you fight interesting battles in a beautiful feudal Japanese setting. Well worth the purchase.

Ghost of Tsushima is arguably Sony’s last hurrah before moving into the next generation. Thinking back to the original PS4 and its specs, it is incredible that a game like Ghost of Tsushima is able to run on such dated hardware, and yet offer a new, beautiful experience.

Ghost of Tsushima is arguably Sony’s last hurrah before moving into the next generation. Thinking back to the original PS4 and its specs, it is incredible that a game like Ghost of Tsushima is able to run on such dated hardware, and yet offer a new, beautiful experience.

The art style and direction are impeccably done. It stays true to the Japanese culture and is visually eye popping. For reference, I completed GoT on a PS4 Pro at 4K. As you explore the map, you will note that each section has its own distinct feel. And whilst we are on the map, let’s talk about fast travelling. It is insane to see what Sucker Punch managed to deliver here when confined to standard hard drive speeds. After completing Spider-Man, I couldn’t help but wish the PS5 was here now so I didn’t have suffer any more long loading screens. However, Ghost of Tsushima manages to make this experience significantly less painful and it is an impressive feat. Many open-world games can suffer from pacing issues when long loading times are introduced, but this is simply not the case in GoT.

The way you navigate around the map to your mission destinations and side-quests is very well done. Sucker Punch clearly intended for an uncluttered HUD experience, which is a great decision as it offers very little distraction and allows you to focus on the amazing art style. To navigate, a ‘guiding wind’ appears on screen, which is visualised by the trees and grasses blowing in your specified direction. It is elegant and simple, and something that I wish more open-world games would consider.

The fighting can be challenging, but hugely rewarding. This is not a hack and slash game, and nor should it be. I played this game on the challenging mode, which was brilliant. You have 4 stances you can take (technically 5, but I’ll say no more), and each stance is effective against a type of enemy. It works very well and is fluid. Perfect parrys and dodges will reward you with more effective takedowns and high damage. Alternatively, you can abandon the way of the Samuari and take on an assassin approach. Or, you can just settle with a bow and arrow. GoT really lends itself to different play styles and it is done incredibly well. You do not feel pressured to follow a particular path, and there are multiple outfits which offer bonuses for your desired play style. It can be as varied as you want it to be. I would occasionally swap between master assassin, samurai or as an archer. It kept the fighting and experience fresh.

My only criticism at this stage is the plethora of shortcut menus to access your kit and styles. Whilst I found the stances easier to navigate, I found choosing the kit less intuitive. I often went through long periods of the game not using certain items as I simply forgot which button combination it was and it would otherwise ruin the flow. Towards the end however I had just about managed to select all my equipment based on muscle memory. It may be worth spending some time getting used to this so you get the full experience.

The storyline is very compelling, as you would expect from a Sony exclusive. What struck me more, however, was that the side-questions were wonderfully done and incorporated. In many open-world games (I’m looking at you Horizon and Spider-Man), the side-quests often felt like a chore or tacked on. GoT doesn’t suffer this, they are very well incorporated and feel very much part of the world.

There is so much more I could say about this game. I held off for awhile as I was hoping the price would fall. However, Lockdown blues made me take the plunge and I am so glad I did. It is perhaps one of the best and most unique games I’ve played on the PS4. I tend to be apprehensive about open-world games as I find they can be in some instances torturous in length and pacing (RDR2 for instance), but I just couldn’t put this game down. I have yet to try out the multiplayer Legends mode, but I hear good things.

If you have been lucky enough to preorder a PS5, I would personally wait to play GoT on your new machine. In 60 FPS, this game is going to shine even brighter.

This is why Ghost of Tsushima is different. Not only different, but in a league of its own. I grew up in the late 90’s and early 00’s playing games such as the Way of the Samurai series and watching films in the likes of The Last Samurai and Kill Bill. This gave me my love of samurai and all things ancient Japan. To say that Ghost of Tsushima is everything I wanted and more is an understatement. This is a 10 year old me’s wet dream.
The game itself is breathtakingly beautiful. The soundtrack is completely perfect. The whole package is better than most films or series produced over recent years. And what I especially love is that this game is so accessible that a love for medieval japan is by no means necessary to fall in love with the game.
This game is well worth your time and money and I cannot recommend it strongly enough.
I wish I was skilled enough to capture all of this in a Haiku poem however I feel I still need more training before I can claim this honour.

Jin is somewhat of a dull character, to be honest, and the story could be better. It's easy to get sidetracked with all of the side missions too, so you can quickly become detached from the main story, which is what happened to me. With that being said, it's a little disjointed at times. The combat is the best part about the game. It's unique and satisfying, and keeps you wanting more. Also, it can be unclear on where to go next for certain missions which can be annoying. But ultimately, it's a success and a game Sucker Punch should be proud of. Expand

It does have a Ubisoft open world vide to it tho, but if you look past that, it is hours upon hours of play.
You can play it either as a samurai, full blown standoffs etc, or as a ninja. sneaking up and poisoning people. It affects the weather ! play as a ninja a lot and it will storm, play as a samurai, the sun will shine.
Kurosawa mode is also fun ( old samurai movie style after the director Kurosawa)
Does it have glitches? yes but you reeeeally have to look for em.
Legends mode is fun and the new game + is awesome.
o and for the new players, for the end ( and a few inbetween) get a LOT of tissues, cause sucker punch hammered it home with the japanese/chinese ending styles.

One thing that bugs me, and its just one. is that although they made japanese voicelines for this game, they did not match the mouth movement. its an irk.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You'll see this adjective a lot when reading the reviews: Beautiful. This game takes full advantage of high-def screens to provide you with a vibrant backdrop as you explore feudal Tsushima, an island between the Southeast Asian coast and mainland Japan. The Mongols have invaded and annihilated all but a handful of its samurai. You are Jin Sakai, a high-born noble who survives the onslaught thanks to a thief named Yuna. You begin on a quest to save your liege lord (and uncle) from the Mongols, but you must often turn from the samurai code of honor in order to effectively deal with the horde that has overrun your home.

The game play is fluid. There is a bit of a learning curve with the combat, but once you learn all of the stances and how to best utilize your resolve, it becomes almost a joy (played on normal difficulty). There are some issues in a super-tight melee with attacking in a different direction than you point with your stick (and sometimes moving around with your back to the target...like how did that even happen...and how do I turn around?), but a practical healing mechanic (take notes, Jedi: Fallen Order) more than offsets that. Respawn and fast-travel times are blessedly quick, and Sucker Punch, as they did with their "Infamous" series (which I really enjoyed), thoroughly make use of the center touchpad.

Taking part in the epic battles that abound in Act II is exhilarating. It feels like a free for all and you never know exactly when the waves of enemies will end. Little tidbits like "End Suffering" for a fallen enemy that's not quite dead is also wonderfully appropriate.

Some of the collectables are a neat addition (I really enjoyed the bamboo strikes and the haiku compositions), but there were far too many Inari shrines (fox dens). The charm system is a neat power-up idea, but it needed to be a bit more manageable. You get a LOT of charms throughout the game, some of which do the same thing. The Shinto Shrine climbs were also kind of meh. On a related note, the rope swing physics are a bit unnatural, but at least they're consistent and you get the "hang" of when to actually release.

The story, unfortunately, is tropey and largely predictable, which made it a little grindy for me, particularly after Act I (there are 3 acts). The side quests, especially those featuring the supporting characters (Masako, Ishikawa, Norio, Yuna, and Kenji) were more compelling than the main throughline. The rest of this paragraph contains spoilers...I mean, sort of. Can we stop with the "man has no friends" device entering the third act? Or at least end the "must reluctantly fight my father figure at the end?" At least Ryuzo wasn't Jin's brother... ffs. Khotun Khan was easily the most interesting character.

This game, though, truly shines in its art direction. I've already covered the vivid color palette The kabuki-esque intros to the Mythic Tales with ink and shadow were master strokes. A lot of praise has been heaped "Kurasawa Mode," which is neat to try during a duel and/or a couple of missions, but the black-and-white schema also applies to incoming attacks, whether they're unblockable (red) or parryable (blue). That's kind of a useful thing to know.

The voice acting is hit and miss on the English side. My first playthrough, I did Japanese audio with English subtitles and enjoyed it far more than my all-English New Game + playthrough.

Overall, Ghost of Tsushima is a worthy farewell to Sony's PS4 exclusives. For those on the fence about it, either ask for it for Christmas or wait until it hits the $19.99 rack. That should push you over.

The scale and the size of the world is massive and can be overwhelming at times, the story really sucked me in, the story is fantastic with so many twists and turns, the side stories are great and the music complements.

The only downside is that I felt somewhat forced to play a single armor set for exploration and in my playthrough I actually spent 99% of my time in this set, this is because it is the only piece that helps clear the fog of war on the map somewhat more efficiently... knocked 2 stars off because of this as this will likely affect those with OCD for map visibility and Sucker Punch could have done more to balance this.

    Cons:
Only thing that felt off for me in the entire game was enemy AI, not always especially during stealth missions. Enemy looks at you but doesn't get notice or get alerted, they just walk off. Sometimes there is a huge fighting going on, the enemy nearby or in the next room doesn't notice at all.

Tats the reason i am giving it a 9/10, otherwise an enjoyable game all the way.

Ghost of Tsushima is a great looking game. If you have a big 4K TV then it's going to look nice. That is where my praise ends. This game is extremely mediocre. I don't understand the hype for it. But that allGhost of Tsushima is a great looking game. If you have a big 4K TV then it's going to look nice. That is where my praise ends. This game is extremely mediocre. I don't understand the hype for it. I'm going to be honest, I was REALLY into the game for the first act. It was fun exploring, and cutting down enemies. It was like this game was the samurai game I always wanted. But that all changed once I got to the second act. The second act is such a slog that all the flaws become apparent.

Combat is extremely boring once you start unlocking a lot of the tech tree. There should have been some kind of limit of points to promote more of a character build style of gameplay. But you know gamers, they don't like to be cut off from content. That want to be and do everything. I found myself switching the difficulty so much. I found myself setting it to easy because I just didn't want to deal with the hassle of the harder modes. Even on the harder modes this game is really easy with the help of items and the bow.

The map in act one is a pretty decent size, but everything feels so much bigger on act 2's map. It's such a hassle to travel around. And I'm tired of exploring and looking around a map which all it presents to me is a lifeless world. It looks pretty but extremely lifeless. It doesn't promote much exploration because the most you'll find might be some items for crafting. But they can be found almost anywhere so it feels like a letdown for traveling off the beaten path.

The side quests are the same exact thing. It'll get on your nerves. Meet character. Have some exposition dialogue as you travel to the place. Examine and look for footprints. Follow footprints to an enemy camp. Defeat about 12 guys. Finish. They all follow this kind of format. It's not interesting. It's not fun. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the characters actually had some personality, but nothing about the characters really make me care about them or their problems.

The game does have some mini side quests like finding hot springs and doing haiku, but they feel like little reward for how tedious it gets to explore the game and how easy combat is.

Overall this game is alright. I don't see how any gamer can give it more than a 7 though. It ticks all the right boxes, but doesn't add anything new that hasn't been done already.

It knows how to reuse mechanics and fundamentals established by other licenses, and give them its own personal touch. And what a touch. It's not just an Assassin's Creed in Japan: it has its own visual code and almost cinematographic atmosphere, and the sublime island of Tsushima naturally replaces some of the interface elements. The whole game is infused with poetry, which is rather bold for a mainstream title. However, we regret the big weaknesses on a few fundamental points, as it lacks variety regarding the points of interest, the fights and especially the duels, which, combined with an ill-fitting difficulty, wearied us at the end. Incorporating actual kendo/iaido techniques this game is the closest thing to having a real samurai experience there is so far in any video game. The inventory/weapon selection system takes some time to get used to but before long, becomes second nature.

    Graphics
GoS has some of the best the graphics on any console, and is probably tied with Red Dead Redemption 2 as the best looking game for the PS4. GoS has a very unique and beautiful art style that really enhances the atmosphere and the immersion.

    Sound
The music perfectly fit’s the atmosphere and sounds much like what you would expect from a samurai film. Sound effects, like striking with the katana, have the appropriate sound/feel of weight.

    Story
GoS’s has an excellent story. The plot revolves around bushido and the conflict that arises when strict adherence to that code prevents the protagonist, Jin, form being able to defend his homeland. The secondary characters have a number of quests that I was genuinely interested in following.

Rarely have I played a game as enjoyable and well-made as Ghost of Tsushima. The attention to detail is truly impressive and the result is the very best in quality (and fun) in all areas.

Jogo excepcionalmente lindo, tudo e muito fantástico, a câmera do game no início e um pouco exótica, mas com muito pouco tempo você acostuma com a gameplay e o jogo se mostra sensacional!!

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best games of the year by far. Breathtaking visuals with every area of the map offering a stunning vista. Tight and responsive controls that never feel sluggish. The open world is big but not too big, everywhere you go there is something to find, often resulting in upgrades for the protagonist. Expand

Amazing game for samurai movie fans. Playing the game is like experiencing a whole series of classic samurai movies.

The point is: The game is very fun and unlike most games of this generation, from a certain point you become a powerful samurai, and it is amazing to be so strong, to slice and defeat enemies, but it is still challenging and it takes skill to win.

Good Enough game. First off the graphics are gorgeous, the world of tsushima is thriving with colour and is just begging to be explored. The exploration is good with interesting side activities to find like the fox dens and the shrines. The combat is weighty and feels fun although gets a little repetitive towards the end as most of the combat styles and upgrades are unlocked early on. TheGood Enough game. The armour sets are cool and styling out jin your own way is great. However my biggest problem and what really holds this game from being a potential 9 or 10/10 is the story and the quests. I'll be straight up I would say maybe 1 or 2 missions in the entire game really grabbed me. The side missions are boring and not engaging but what really sucks is that the tales missions and the main story missions are the same. The main villian of the game is bland and uninteresting. The only good thing is the relationship between Jin and Lord Shimura but this is a small part of the overall experience. Overall a fun enough time that needed a better script Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sucker Punch got it right, again, after years of seclusion, without making big releases, or inconclusive announcements, (as is the case with CD P Red).
The successful game company like Infamous, considered one of the exclusives that started Sony's dominance over the console gaming market, reached the RAPTURE OF PERFECTION, successfully.
Breaking records, showing a new type of gameplay, using the best of the console, having beautiful landscapes, an attractive story, a beautiful soundtrack, hot springs, and foxes, yes, foxes, birds and dogs ....
"But do you have to kill dogs?" No, the game allows you to RECRUIT THE DOGS Rather than KILL THEM, see, this is not a great idea?
Playing Ghost Of Tsushima is better than killing dogs, in a dysfunctional world, full of dubious creatures, poorly rendered, with the story of a cowardly girl, Joel was wrong, too late, humans.
Anyway, returning to the game of the year, with 90% approval from video game users, Ghost Of Tsushima is chosen as Sony's most profitable game of the year in years
With an advantage, the game was released, (it was announced, and released, without LONG delays)
Ghost Of Tsushima enabled the work of thousands of people and endured the hours of gambling in Lockdown of Millions, thank you. I wish you a vaccine and Ghost of Tsushima, for you and a friend in the new CO-OP Mode of the game

The best samurai game in a long time and a great fun for all, who love action. Love for Japan and its history is a big plus, but its knowledge is not necessary to enjoy every minute of this beautiful game. [Issue#305]

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
