I‘m absolutely speechless... one of the best games I‘ve ever played! Sony here again proved that they make the best exclusive titles for Playstation. The visuals and world design are freaking amazing. The graphics are the best I‘ve ever seen in a game... Played this on platinum in 2 weeks and I recommend everyone who has this game to play it on 100%.

I wish there would be more useful armour and weapons, after doing half of the game I had already maxed out everything so there was no need to do any other side missions besides the tales for the support characters to perhaps know more about them.

The best tales were lady Sawako and Norio, the sensei Ishikawa tale was disappointing a little bit at the end, they built up one of the characters to an extent and then it seems the writer didn’t commit to it. It was disappointing. The same goes for the final battle against Kothun kan.

In a nutshell, it was a great game with a vastly beautiful open world and very versatile combat mechanics.

Also, there is no level gating, where you can't fight an enemy because they are 30 levels above you. The combat is fluid and really satisfying (playing on hard). The loading times in the game are only a few seconds, which is surprising given it is running on HDD and such old hardware.

The photo mode is rich with features. The customization and charms are fun. I feel this is the game that everyone wanted an Assassin's Creed in Japan to be. Overall, I have really enjoyed the hours I have put into this game. Congrats to Sucker Punch on this great game.

It is great to see that after the rushed (but still good) inFamous: Second Son, Sucker Punch were given proper time and budget to develop their next game. Despite some flaws, Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best recent open-world games, and my personal GOTY 2020.

The game simply nails its fundamentals. Melee combat is quick and satisfying, it carefully avoids enemies becoming slash-sponges, everyone can be defeated within a few precise strikes on any difficulty level. Exploration is engaging thanks to the immersive astoundingly beautiful open world set in feudal Japan. It is remarkably gorgeous, and I found myself making more screenshots in it than in any other game. I also have to give credit to smart hudless design that encourages you to gaze upon this world instead of some mini-maps (RDR 2, take note), as all you need for navigation is a swipe up on the touchpad, which triggers the guiding wind, showing you the way. A similar system was implemented in Arkham games with Batman's symbol in the sky, with similarly great results. It's a pleasure to just ride your horse (without mashing X like a madman) across Tsushima's magnificent plains, taking detours to help a villager in need. I'd also like to commend the game's technical side - in spite of its complex visuals, Ghost of Tsushima almost never drops its FPS on the base PS4, and the loading times are a marvel, with it taking about 6 seconds to load, all without an SSD.

Now for the things keeping it from being a ten. The story can be hit-and-miss: it starts very slow, can be boring at times, is very straightforward and predictable, and the characters are mostly one-dimensional (Uncle "Honor" Shimura). The ending, however, is surprisingly solid, which helps leave a positive lasting impression. My other complaint is that the overall game is too big, and gets very stretched and repetitive if you try to complete all the side content. I spent over 70 hours beating the game, and I still have a good dozen Mongol camps to liberate, few dozen collectibles to pick up, and some spacious parts of map left unexplored, all of which I am too tired to do at this point. Also, for a game that has the main character transitioning from a samurai to more of a ninja, GoT offers some very basic stealth mechanics - you can sneak up on people, shoot them with arrows or darts, and throw distractions that they will wander towards, but that's it.

The Legends online mode, added after the game's intial release, is a welcome surprise, and offered 10-15 more hours of arcade fun for me. It's nothing spectacular, but it's still great they added this little DLC, and it's completely non-monetized, despite there being loot and cosmetics.

To sum up, PS4's last big exclusive turned out to be one of its best. Looking forward to the next generation now.

A game filled with old Japanese history and culture.

    Good

    - I like how the game uses wind has a navigation indicator rather than the traditional map or bar.

    - I like how fast quick travel is. There's virtually no loading time.

    - the game is absolutely stunningly beautiful. I would find myself standing there just admiring how the lights reflects off of each blade of grass and how it reflects off of the ocean. And how the wind interacts with the plant's life it's also serene.

    - it's interesting to see Jin struggle between the samurai code of frontal combat versus the thieves method of stealth assassination. Should he make his uncle proud by keeping the code or break it in order to get past certain areas more smoothly?

    - the sound of each sword swing into the opponent's flesh feels very lifelike, and as if you are swinging really in the hands of a skilled Samurai slicing through your enemies like chopping up a piece of steak. The injured and death animations of the enemies are also very realistic, as well as their bloodstatter.

    - the structure and the gameplay style isn't particularly anything new, but the setting and the accuracy the developers paid attention to in regards to feudal Japan is absolutely incredible. Which plays a big part in my enjoyment of the game. Like the grapple, the climbing, the stealth, and in some way even the combat I've experienced in other games, like assassin's Creed, uncharted, and sekiro.

    - I was playing with a fan blowing in front of me and it actually enhanced the feeling whenever I swiped up to summon a gust of wind for navigation.

    - when the sword fights go smoothly and I pair every single attack and Dodge and counter successfully, it feels extremely satisfying, like I'm a badass samurai.

    - I'm glad this game makes the walk speed of the protagonist the same as the ally's. In many games the Ally has a fixed lock speed and the game forces me to tilt the stick at a certain distance to match the speed. In this game, it is so much more convenient when the Ally will Sprint if I Sprint, and walk if I walk.

    - kenji's side quest is a nice comic relief to the seriousness of all the other quests.

    - the game makes it really easy to see what upgrades are available.

    - although deflecting arrows do not take skill, since I'm just holding one button. It's still really cool to watch jin walk forward slowly, then immediately speeds up when he deflects an arrow, and imagining the impending doom that's enemy must feel as he sees jin approach.

    - the gameplay is very very customizable, in the sense that you can learn techniques that cater to your playstyle, wether defensive or offensive.

    - I really like the debates the game portrays in terms of whether a person should fight with honor or use whatever deceitful trick up his sleeve to win. It makes me think about competitive gaming, and how so many players would fight with "honor" and frown on camping and cheesy tactics. At the end of the day, I think a player should be allowed to use every tool the game offers to win. If a cheesy tactic turns out to be the dominant one, then there is a flaw in the game's design, unless that is what the developer intended.

    - the haiku sections, although are simple, the game makes it very serene.

    Bad

    - sometimes the camera angle goes into a really bad position because there's no lock on system in this game. Sometimes it goes into a position where I cannot see the enemies attack animation, which led me to get attacked even though I was ready to Parry.

    - sometimes climbing down a wall is annoying because I hold down to climb, but there may be a small platform that breaks the climb and I end up walking off the platform and falling to my death. It wasn't clear that the platform was not a climbable ledge until I dropped on for that split second, leaving me no time to react by letting go of the joystick.

    - I don't understand why ryozu don't hunt for food for his men when there is so much wildlife. Bears, deers, boars, foxes. He would go as far as to burn his own people than to hunt for animals? from a logical point of view it just doesn't make sense.

    - there's no way to see the bow cool down meter unless I aim with the bow, which is inconvenience during the heat of a battle.

    - the chain assassination technique should allow me to use Square to chain assassinate. Because when I use triangle to chain assassinate, The prompt doesn't always show up until I am right next to the enemy, meaning if the enemies are not close enough for me to chain assassinate, then I end up doing a heavy strike, which blows my cover and screws up stealth, just because the enemies are a bit further apart than what is required by the chain assassinate technique.

    - they really need to slow down time a lot more when cycling between gadgets. There's way too many.

Great Game. Love the newest update to Multiplayer Nightmare Raid Mode - the "fill party" option and the way multiplayer is set up is definitely an amazing multiplayer experience. I'm definitely willing to pay for a new raid expansion with associated nightmare chapters, seems like the whole thing ties together, probably take 6months-1yr to make?

In total, I have spent 88 hours on this game, completing the story, all side quests/optional content, and 90% of collectibles, so I feel I have a very good grasp of what this game is. First of all, I'd rate this more of an 8.5, but I feel 8 is too low so I'm giving it a 9.

Overall, this game certainly lived up to the expectations i had many years ago when it was revealed. And I'm glad

And I'm glad to say it didn't turn out to be an Assassin's Creed rip off! Sure, there are clearly parts of the game that are inspired by AC, but it certainly isn't a like-for-like rip off - it has inspiration from several games clearly. And best of all, this is better far better than any of the AC games i've played since that series started! So don't go into this expecting a game like AC that you may drop after a while - this is a nice, sweet and immersive experience that Ubisoft ought to learn from!
Let's start with the premise - you're one of the only Samurai left after the first invasion of Tsushima island by the Mongols. The game essentially puts you into the shoes of a samurai who must defy the strict Samurai honour code in order to protect the people of his islannd through more stealthy and creative means. Jin as a character may not feel that engaging, but you have to understand he's a samurai who generally keeps his emotions within him and doesn't openly show them. As you play through the game, you should begin to like Jin more as a protagonist, but don't expect him to be witty like Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series or anything.

The supporting characters are all, genuinely, quite great. There's a good range in the personalities of your allies, and that's something i commend Sucker Punch for doing as they really go well with Jin.

The music is fantastic, although it's not a soundtrack I would buy or anything. The peaceful music goes so well with the environment of the game and really match the tone of scenes. Whoever composed the score of this game really put a lot of effort into it!

As for graphics - I played on a PS4 Slim on HDR settings and the game was beautiful, so it must look even better on the PS4 Pro and PS5 at 4K. The enviornments go from being lush and colorful forests and fields, to amazing temple and castle architecture, and to sombre environments that the Mongols have destroyed. The art design here is amazing and it's one of the big strenghts of this game. Very immersive and lovely to traverse through!

The side quests in this game are quite varied, however do expect quite a bit of tracking missions. However, don't let this deter you as Sucker Punch do this very well! Much better than Ubisoft with the Assassin's Creed series where tracking missions are slow, boring, repetitive in design, and constitute most of the 'side quests' of the game. You certainly won't expect that here for GoT. You can expect to actually get some lore from the side quests. This is especially so for 'Mythical Tales' and the Tales of your allies. Mythical Tales are very fun, give you a sense of that mythical lore behind the islands, and give great rewards, The tales of your main allies are very well done. Sucker Punch don't overdo them, yet there's a considerable amount that will keep you invested in these characters' stories. It's a lovely way to get some plot from them and grow them as characters so that you understand them better, which you woudn't get from just playing the main story missions.

As for the main story, this was very enjoyable, After Act 1, you should be invested in the story enough to finish. I particularly liked the end of Act 2 and the whole of Act 3. Yet again, a PlayStation studio comes up with a memorable and enoyable story for you to play through. It certainly isn't the best story from a PS exclusive, but a lot of effort was put into it and I definitely think it's something investing time into.

Finally, I have to cmmend the progression and collectbles system. It's very satisfying to complete the main and optional quests and level up - the idea is you want to build your 'Legend' up from being a mere fallen samurai to the Ghost of Tsushima that the islanders and Mongols will remember forever. Other than that, it's your standard progression system with points you can spend on weapon techniques, unlocking new weapons, and weapon moves. As for the collectibles, there are a wide range of different ones, each with their own benefits and special cutscenes. Perhaps the most immersive are the 'Shinto Shrines' where you have to traverse across mountain ledges to get to the shrine on top - a bit like those special view points in Assassin's Creed. You also have the hot baths and haiku positions which are very peaceful.

A real masterpiece ..! The game is outstanding in terms of both the gameplay and the technical implementation! It is a feast for the eyes! The only point of criticism for me is the replayability. If you play the story 100% and get the platinum trophy, the game has next to no replay value. That is a shame and could have been solved better. Otherwise great game!

The only reason it’s not a perfect game for me is because I felt like the main story was a bit short and not as fulfilling enough for me. My dialogue decisions didn’t have much impact on any of the story, and I wish they would have made a deeper mainly story line based on the two different ideological paths you could take. I still rate this game pretty highly as a fun and overall engaging and immersive experience. Definitely a must play. Expand

Overall, fantastic story that holds some heavy moments that drive the emotions hard. The voice acting is exceptionally executed, coupled with some of the best written characters ever. However, due to the open world format, the pace does suffer a bit, but not enough to detract away from the adventure.

The visuals and sound are fantastic, the whole island of Tsushima is stunning and a joy to explore. Even the grind that has been introduced is a lot of fun, but again, suffers from the open world format. It does feel like a bit of a chore to run around and collect items, unlock areas, take down outposts etc. The in game activities do fit nicely with the overall theme, but is a bit immersion breaking when some are obviously 'filler'. With that all in mind, the game excels in the combat department. Don't get me wrong, it's more of the 'counter/attacker' game-play we are used to, but feels satisfying with the multiple stances that can be implemented for strategic value.

You would be forgiven for saying this is 'Assassin's Creed Japan', however the story and visuals really do make this one stand out. Ghost of Tsushima does everything it is trying to do very well. It would have been nice to see some more realism or a little more innovation rather than sticking with the same open world gaming we are used to.

Well.. I wanted to love this game just as much the positive reviews, but this game is a 7/10 max. Developers were playing safe, borrowing ideas from other games to publish something that is easy to like (but hard to love?). I can list many open-world games that are more complex than this. I'd say this game should have been a linear game with more effort put in the characters and dialogs.

    Postivies:
    - landscapes are beautiful, especially when there's sun in the sky
    - main story and the side characters' stories are good (but predictable)
    - combat is fine at first but tend to be boring after a few hours
    - ghost stand/mode/whatever is fun

    Negatives:
    - graphics has huge glitches and bugs, especially in character movements, walking, climbin stairs, and clothes
    - every 3rd citizen looks and moves the same
    - empty open world, you ride your horse for minutes and nothing happens
    - meaningless collectibles
    - AI is **** they can't hear or see you, only if they are facing you
    - dumb monologs and dialogs
    - after you complete the story and still have collectibles to reach 100%, it gets really boring
    - normal mode is too easy, and it's too easy to get 100%
    - isn't really worth replaying, too monotonous
    - if you set language to Japanese, characters are speaking Japanese but their lips are moving for English

Most of the side missions and even some of the main ones have very simplistic animations. Feels like an old RPG game with basic lip movement. I can understand such things in side emissions but not in the main arc! Secondly, the locations are very repetitive, you can see the assets being reused all over again I wish they were more creative with the locations, the world which happens to be beautiful in some areas after a while feels repetitive and boring. Following Inaris and birds to secret locations were fun at first but then became tedious. Why create a huge empty world? I am hallway through the story and the cliches are overwhelming, it has it moments but don't expect witcher quality script writing here. What deserves praise are the costumes and the soundtrack. Of course the costumes of the main characters cos the NPC are generic as hell. As goes for the gameplay, solid stealth mechanics but can become clunky at times , fighting is sweet playing either as samurai or ghost feels very rewarding. also if you are a fan of Japanese aesthetics than it is the best Japanese styled game hands down-just not as good as expected. I was hoping for a game that would score at least 9 out of 10 (in my own world of course)

I managed to Platinum the game with a total playtime of 66.5 hours, with my only issue being certain collectibles being locked behind inaccessible areas due to the completion of the story. Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
