This game is very awesome openworld rpg out here ! way better than Assasin creed !. Though I was hating the fact that the game does not have "lock on", I still like gameplay very much. It has so much variety in it. Swordfight is fun and brutal. Graphic is good, not the best but not too shabby. I hope the boulder and npc face looks better and more diverse but overall it is fine. Main story is a bit too straight forward and predictable for my liking. I also felt like the drama Samurai vs Ghost was a bit annoying but over all it is good story and the final boss caught me off guard too. Side quests are well-written, not felt like fetch quest. I played it on hard mode, it is very challenging for me especially final two last bosses.

So overall, this game deserves GOTY 2020, a must play for everyone who own PS4 no doubt.

The atmosphere is amazing, the game looks wonderful. The duels are magical. I also like the fightingsystem. Button mashing wont work here. There are much to do in this game, and many things are done very good. The stealthpart is for example way better than what assassins creeds stealth is. Upgradesystem is very free to choose what you want to play like.

Control is flawless. Then you die it is because of you. Thus things does not feel unfair, and I love that. Negatives? Well, few things. Like forces long stealthmissions. Don't like those. Otherwise the game have alot of variation and stuff to do. And that is great. Best game from the studio so far!

Ghosts of Tsushima is a pretty solid game overall that really just get too samey towards the end. The positives outweigh the negatives:

-Excellent environmental design. Nice Graphics. The colors are spectacular. Environments are varied.

-Great Swordplay really holds everything together. The combat is fun throughout.

-Nice tech tree branch will useful new powers to unlock. Really does a good job of making you feel like you are becoming a bigger samurai baddass as you move through the game.

-Some fun side activities like Haikus and Bamboo slicing. These are fun but fleeting.
    -Story is solid.

-Boss duels are great with an epic standoff before each bout.

-Decent immersion for exploration with the guiding wind, but it gets old eventually. Nice touch though.

-Can also forget stealth and call out enemies for a standoff, which is pretty cool. I like how the game gives me the choice with how to deal with a particular situation. Go stealthy or march right up to the gate and call out the fiercest warrior of the group for a one on one showdown. Very epic.

-Exploration is also fairly solid. The game does not hold your hand as much as other open world games and there are some nice environments to discover.

And although there many little great details that add to overall enjoyment of this game, like lots of outfit customizing, in the end the game suffers from much of the same faults that the open world rpg genre is known for.

-Not enough variety in missions and side missions are basically all the same variation of one mission.
    -
Tailing missions are here. Tail an enemy to a location without being seen. Boring and dumb. Overall the structure of the missions are very similar to Ubisoft open world titles with some small exceptions. Ie., go to location and free outpost, save hostages, etc, etc,. Unique missions are quite low in number.

-Enemies are very low on variety and it's gets to the point were you are just bored. You will see guys with swords, Swords and Shields, bows, and spear type weapons. Eventually bomb throwers appear too but they are basically archers. For each type, there is also a Brute variant, which is basically a big version of the aforementioned types. And that's it. It gets old fighting these same old guys non stop.

-Craftable loot has made into this game as well. Gather up tons of stuff to upgrade gear. It's tedious now and forever. Also, tons of collectibles lying around that are absolutely pointless like in any other open world game.

-Platforming is very basic and gimicky. Nothing new here.

-Stealth is very by the numbers. If you've played AC series you know what to expect. Hid in tall grass or on a rooftop and then stab guys in the back. Unlock more powers like stab two people at once, LOL. Then unlock option to stab THREE people in the back. More LOLs. The one cool thing is you can stab guys through bamboo doors. It never gets old. But the rest is just blah. AI is dumb as a rock. It's more fun to approach openly and duel and skip the stealth part.

-Oh yeah, there are forced stealth sections, LOL.

There are a few other minuses but honestly, the immersion, story, and swordplay really make the game shine, and it's polished. I have not seen any bugs. Not one so far. It's very solid Samurai epic with a lot of style, so I can definitely recommend a buy here. I just really wish one these companies would figure out a way to overhaul the mission structure in these open world games. The genre really needs to move forward. Zelda:BOTW and RDR2 did it better, but this is still a very solid game.

Nicely sized world packed neatly with a good amount of content without seeming like the gross excess copy/pasting you see in many other open world games (I'm calling you out, Ubisoft).

Side quests are really good and meaningful, most of them involving going deeper into the storyline of the prominent NPCs you will meet along in your journey.

Gameplay is pretty good. Swordplay looks (and SOUNDS) really great. Playing on Hard difficulty is a decent challenge, especially early on before you get a few important skills and equipment upgrades. Controls are responsive but took some getting used to because the muscle memory I had from other games doesn't work here (trying to sneak in a perfect parry in the middle of an enemy combo usually ends in pain, whereas in a game like Sekiro you can weave parries almost any time).

My only real big gameplay complaint is that the camera is often pretty bad, where it will move in locations where you can't see your character or be in such a close proximity where you will get hit by enemies off screen.

I really hope we see more like this from Sucker Punch in the future!

The 9.2 score among almost 18000 reviews from User score reflects perfectly how players feel about this game. GoT is fantastic, an amazing achievement from start to finish. It's one of the best games I have ever played and is only the 4th game I have ever platinumed in my life (2 others are also Sucker Punch games, shows you how much I appreciate this company). The critic focuses on the fact that this game is another sandbox game that is being tossed out to us every few months, etc... But this is not true. Sucker Punch has perfected the formulae and not one moment in my 100 hrs playthrough have I ever felt bored or wanted to stop. I always had this urge of wanting to know what's coming next.
The combat is excellent and the more you play the more you will perfect your moves and technics. You have a large arsenal of Ghost weapons at your disposal and I felt the need of using them all during my encounters with the Mongols. They are all useful and needed in different situations. The stealth sections are very well implemented and fun, not tedious at all, and the different equipment you find throughout your journey (mainly armors) are needed for different playstyle. You'll have to use them all. The Skill tree is varied and assigning the right point to the right skill will make a lot of difference.

The world, Oh man the world. What a wonderful island Tsushima is. The Graphics on the PS4 which is a 7 years old hardware are the best you'll ever find on last gen console. It is unbelievable that the PS4 can still achieve this level of details in 2020. You'll have to see it to believe it, provided you play on a 4k UHD TV, and on the PS4 Pro (my settings).

    The Story:
The story is great and engrossing from start to finish. It tells the tale of a young Samurai who has to struggle when his island is being invaded by ruthless Mongols (I think in the 11th or 12th century) and their merciless leader Khotun Khan. Naturally, the story has a lot of twists and heart breaking moments that I won't spoil. However, it is very well written, well acted and captivating until the end. There are a lot of side missions that aim to show you the torment of the people of Tsushima during the invasion and they are all interesting. The game has hundreds of collectibles in the form of Fox Den to be found, Banners scattered around the world to collect, lighthouses to be lit, and dozens more. All of them reward you with different equipment/perks/skills etc.. They are interesting and equally important to find.

The loading time is the fastest you'll ever find on a game of this scale on the PS4. In a matter of seconds you load from the start screen to the game. And during the game it is even faster to reload if you die or want to fast-travel. it feels like a next gen game. I don't know how Sucker Punch were able to achieve that. But this is also an indication of how much the game is polished and runs well. Bugs are almost inexistent and the game had never crashed once during my playthrough.

    tl;dr
I highly recommend GoT. It is a highly polished, well written, well made game with fantastic graphics and an amazing world to explore. If you like open world games where you will sink dozens of hours of your life, do not hesitate and buy GoT.

It looks beautiful, the combat is solid and varied with different stances for the different enemy types, the world has plenty to see and to do when you get exploring without being overly large like AC Odyssey. Speaking of AC that’s what GoT will often get compared to and for good reason from a gameplay perspective with the stealth and movement feeling familiar (which makes the “the stealth is the worst” reviews nonsensical as there’s not a lot of difference aside from a variety of new skills). Whilst it does retread ground in that regard it isn’t really a clone of AC more just “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” with them building on things like combat which plays as one might expect in a samurai game and is executed better than the loose combat controls of recent AC games.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, interesting characters with their own personalities and goals with good performances from the scanned cast who lend their faces and voices to the roles. I think most people knew what to expect from the story and it delivers on that front. Unfortunately we do have TLOU 2 fans leaving negative reviews who are just bitter that their game dropped the story ball compared to the first, pay those reviews no attention as they probably didn’t even play it. The critics and fans score this game highly which suggests it’s more a negative reaction of spite than a sincere opinion. Ghost is what it is, it isn’t “defining new boundaries of storytelling” (which TLOU2 really isn’t, if anything in 2020’s social climate it’s very expected and predictable) Ghost takes a narrative of old, a tried and tested formula and still manages to deliver an enjoyable experience.

It’s an easy ten for me, definitely one of the games I’ve enjoyed the most this year and will be one I keep going back to with runs on higher difficulty and using the Kurosawa mode which locks in the Japanese dialogue and olde film screen effects. Look forward to seeing what Sucker Punch have for us on the next gen.

This is essentially what Ghost of Tsushima is minus the templars, here instead you have the moungols
That being said, these are the types of games im the hardest on as theyre my most favorite.
Here you play as jin, a samuri that sets ojt to stop the mongols, but your entire journey is an internal struggle of honor the samari way, or in the shadows the ezio way… ghost of tsushi,a does not mask that it sets out to marry the wither 3 and the desmond saga of assassins creed, and this is what it does… the open world here is absolutely stunning, its beautiful, second only to the witcher 3.. however while great to look at, it doesn’t ever really feel alive, its not enticing or full of intrigue, its just something really pretty to look at while youre riding from mission to mission, however there is some incentive to explore as this is a map cleaner, not an overwhelming map cleaner like recent ac games have become, but just the right balance of do I wanna ignore the store and find some collecabtles or do some side missions to level up my character or gear? Which brings me to the skill tree and progression in this game.. its alright… I feel a skill tree should make the game youre playing more enjoyable, and ghosts of tsushimas does to an extent, but again not anything drastic here, I eenjoyed initially hunting won materials, caliming mongol territories as my own so that I would upgrade my sword and armour, but after I got to a point wher I felt comfortable existing in this would, there was not much I cared to save up for which in turn lead me to ignoring the side activities and going right through this 18 hour long story after I got bored of its world… really showing why exactly ubisoft has stayed away from this setting.. theres not much you can do in a forest setting outside of the fantasy genre… when it comes to stealth and combat, this is an aspect where ghost of tsushima feels a bit dated and janky, neither of the two options are any fun, I find shield clashing in combat to be highly unsatisfying, and this is how ghost of tsushima feels from start to finish, I like that batman arkham feel when youre just beating up a bunch of grunts, I hate hwoever when the riot shield guys come in to break up my flow… this is literally every eveny in ghost of tsushima, the spam hold the block button like your little sister playing a fighting game with you, I get that this game has different stances to deal with each weapon type, but still.. its annoying and made me dread combat… I would use the stand off option every chance I got so id have the opportunity to take out as many enemies out before battle starts as possible just to not deal with them… this is not a good sign in a game so combat focused and heavy… and onto the mission structure and story.. its boring, no memorable missions, tons of missions that have that good ole, don’t get detected or you automatically fail stipulation of assassins creed fame, and its again just annoying.. you don’t really feel you have the tools necessary at your disposal to make stealth missions like this enjoyable like they can be in an assassins creed game.. and constant return to the story area countdowns really making me feel like im in the animus.. that being said, ghost of tsushima is a great game… hard to believe with all of the ranting I just did, but I loved it… it took a good 10 hours until I was bored of its open world, and again this world Is gorgeous, it’s a great experience alone just to be able to live in this world, to chase down its legendary moves, obviously certain missions are necessary to unlocking different abilities, but ghost of tsushima would almost be a better game without a campaign, just a world to go explore and breathe in.
And you have no idea how happy I am that we no longer have to hear assassins creed fans cry about feaudal japan .

It's been a long since I've played a game for hours on end. And it has been years since I've played a game in which when I'm not playing the game, I'm thinking about playing the game. That's what Ghosts of Tsushima is: a game that penetrated my jaded heart and reinvigorated my enjoyment of the hobby.

Now to be clear, there is nothing groundbreaking here. Structurally, it's an entry in well-worn "Assassin's Creed" open-world style games. But the execution is excellent and even people who've burned out on it can enjoy it. The load times are short, so you are back in action quickly after fast-travelling, dying or failing a mission. This keeps great pacing. On hard difficulty you get combat that is challenging, engaging, and fun. I found myself seeking out combat rather than avoiding it like in Sekiro. Speaking of which, Sekiro unfortunately always felt like a Dark Souls game with a Japanese skin. Ghosts by contrast does an excellent job of evoking classic samurai stories and film.

Frankly, Ghosts restored my hope in the Playstation console. I didn't buy Last of Us 2 because I knew what it was: a game made to spite, humiliate, and demoralize normal, well-adjusted people. The oozing contempt Naughty Dog displayed for gamers had me actually considering jumping to the Xbox for the upcoming generation. Ghost of Tsushima shows that excellent games can still be made and be succesful if you just ignore the social-media weirdos.

The game is really great. It looks to me that SP were inspired by RDR2 and Uncharted 4 by some scenes, animations, camera angles. I still like it a lot for the focus on the story more than on the hours to spend in the game. -The story can be pretty slow in some points. It has highlights...but in the end..I don't think it was worth it..until the end..which i did like.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Positives:

-It obviously looks amazing..the photo mode is right up there with Red Dead 2/HZD.
    -Great feel/atmosphere

-As long as you're not fighting in a confined space..the combat is excellent..especially the duels!

-Ishikawa I felt should have had more screen time..easily the best side character.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This game just needs more to do. More meaningful stories..let people create their own duel...not (as much as I like him/her) find the fox 40 times and save 300 random people.

With that said..some of it is a lot of fun..even clearing 5 dozen camps and Jin is a good character to work with in the future...but a game that lacks more meaningful content once the main/side stories are done..doesn't deserve a 9.3 imo and think both recent Infamous titles were better

So to preface I like the game. I like it a lot. It's a great game with only certain technical issues that aren't really all that bad. It has some really flat texture work involving the world, strange collision issues here and there, and some stilted animation work.

That said the game has some of the most satisfying combat I've played in a long time. It's definitely a ton of fun. It also has hella particle effects... like everywhere all the time. It can gorgeous but I'm also not a huge fan of the hyper saturated color pallette. Those are the only nitpicks I have about the game from a technical aspect.

The game is also very orientalist. Making the samurai honor-bound morons. Their own tyranny and brutal combat tactics of the time are "condemned" and contextualized by Jin's "ghost" persona. It uses a bunch of historically spliced together themes, and set dressing - and it does all this with developers saying they weren't going for historical accuracy but instead based around Kurosawa's films... which it fails at. None of the characters save Yuna, and perhaps Masako really feel like characters from his films. Even then Masako feels like a facimile of a Kurosawa character. Further more the games attempt at plot and theming don't feel anything like a Kurosawa film either. So when you mix everything from what developers have stated their intentions were you don't really get that. What you get is the Western idea of what a samurai and what ancient Japan might be like.

I studied a lot about Japanese cultural evolution and history in college. I have several native Japanese friends, and history teachers. I am also a massive Kurosawa fan. So going into this game I had low expectations about what I was getting.

My only advice is that if you find this stuff cool? Please research it. Please don't take your history lesson or Japanese cultural heritage knowledge from this game. Samurai are pretty much regarded as **** and brutal warriors in Japan. In this game they are justice honor-bound idiots (which is why they lose to Mongols... when in history it was due to the technological divide war wise).

All that said. If you go in expecting a Western take on what samurai are, and that it's not how actual Japan is/was/sees samurai anf their own history --- you're in for a treat. It really is THAT good. Just keep in mind that the game is inaccurate as hell, doesn't even really capture "samurai cinema" (btw film recommendations are Hara-Kiri, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro and even Ran)

Instead it feels like a less offensive and slightly more culturally researched Last Samurai.

We all can agree at this point, any open world comes out the first feeling we get is skepticism whether it will be a chore to explore, whether it will get repetitive after a while, whether it will be grindy in terms of combat & crafting. Ghost aims is to improve & refine these. Does it succeed ? It very well improves for the most part.

The best decision that Sucker punch made is to establish a clear identity for the game as a stylish samurai drama game right from the start in every aspect. Its not gonna be grounded in reality, its set in real history setting but is a fiction & gamified, story & characters are dramatic, over the top,its stylish there is a consistent art style & flair to everything right from the menus, UI, world, environment. What this achieves is such a natural flow of how we play the game & what we see in it. A beautiful flow just like its wind...

The wind guidance might seem like a one off gimmick from trailers & gameplay, but i cannot stress enough on the immersion it creates and makes exploration so organic. The exploration of this game is heavily inspired from Zelda Botw and am glad for that. I have had continuous long gameplay sessions without opening the map & menu more than a few times. This makes us observe this beautiful world more which fuels into curiosity & exploration. We hear about rumors and points of interest from talking to npcs. Every area has its own visual style so you can clearly associated with it after a while and easily memorize the map. Crafting & gathering materials is simple as ever, you never once feel the need to go out and collect any materials nor do we ever feel like i have to get this upgrade to progress, it all just happens naturally as we play. A big thanks for not keeping any slightest animation for gathering, whether you are on foot/horse just a button press near the tree branch/flower/supplies and its in our inventory. While choosing quests you are shown what rewards you will get, in the open world if you place cursor on any location it will list all the vendors there, what new items/upgrades so we dont need to go there and check everytime. There are so many refinements like these that i can keep on talking about. Bottomline is all these together contributes to such a natural flow of gameplay that i never once felt like i am doing something unnecessary.

I am loving the characters and story so far. Jin is a likeable protagonist. The combat was one aspect i was worried a lot before release , it was basic at start but it opens up to so much depth that i did not expect. The controls are tight, there are lot of skills, techniques and weapons to use. The standoffs are amazing. Combat isn't hard like in Sekiro, but it has more variety and flair and for me i found this more fun. Also i personally like that there is no lock on.

About the visuals, art design and sound its pure zen-like and mesmerizing throughout ! The videos and screenshots don't do justice. The photo mode deserves an award !

Now coming to the remaining of the "improves for most part". The quest design is something that is definitely lacking. Their story, premise are interesting but the structure is were the game falters. Most of them involve age old design like meeting someone, following them for a while talking to them, then arrive at a location where quest happens. It sure helps world building, but gets old quite soon. But thanks to the story, combat and quest objectives this doesn't impact the experience as much as it would generally. Except for the main cast the NPC animations overall are very rigid , sometimes i feel too many fade to black cuts in cutscenes. The good old camera problem especially in tight places where there is no transparency if we are behind any wall/drapes.

Overall its such a breath of fresh wind , positive and a soulful gaming experience. SuckerPunch & Sony knocked it off the park.

They have stories on their own and I wish some RPG games like Pillars of Eternity had such amazing companion stories as this game. Each of them has a chain of quests that can't be done right away but are progressing with the main story. Each quest is short and gives you ust a bit of the story and conclusion of all of the quest chains is emotional and worth seeing.
Gameplay: The swordfight feels satisfying and "right". Each skill point gives you additional abilities and you have that pleasant feeling of progression. Of course stelthy approach is built as in any other AAA game so your opponents are blind and unable to look up. Everything else is just industry standard at this point.
Open World: This one is tricky. The best thing about this world was that every quest, doesn't matter if it is a main, side quest or just a simple activity is very short. It was super easy for me to play this game for a half an hour and feel that I did something. I didn't feel forced to sit longer but I always wanted too because I always could stop after just one more short quest. The bad part is: the open world was mostly riding a horse. You ride 2 minutes through the map, gather one item or slash through a bamboo stand, and you go off again. Or slay through an enemy camp. The quest were interesting but every other activity was boring. For the most part of the game I felt like uncovering the map pixel by pixel.
Visuals and Music: The game is mesmerizing. Views are amazing. Swaying grass, falling leaves and wind everywhere around you. Music is simply stunning. It always fits the situation and touches some strings of your feelings or enhances the scene. It is one that I added to my playlist to listen during work.

Looks amazing with incredible art along with great sound design. Also plays really well with fun combat and nice little ideas with regards to exploration. Ultimately still openworld 101 though, with little innovation when it comes to it’s structure and story telling, and because of that I find it repetitive and I get bored after a couple of hours.

Excellent combat, world, characters, and side content. Slightly underrated by critics, this is definitely as a good as the exclusives like Spider-Man or HZD if not better

A true contender of Game of the Year and a worthy Swan Song for the PlayStation 4.

Sucker Punch studio really shows their maturity with this game. Great writing, amazing open world, breathtaking picturesque sceneries, topped off with one of the best swordplay combat system out there. Not to mention the purposefully absence HUD UI that tend to clutter your screen with any open world

No hidden agenda to push, no unnecessary social justice preach, and overall just a plain pure fun game to play.

    Congrats Sucker Punch!

So good. I see a lot of influences from BOTW, Shadow of the Colossus, The Witcher etc but remade into an incredible Samurai open world fantasy. So far it’s absolutely incredible. I’m a huge fan of Soulsborne, Sekiro, BOTW, The Witcher, Nioh etc and this game is up there. What a way for PS4 to finish off this generation.

I don’t usually complete every single side mission before completing the main story but this game compels me to do so. Breathtaking visuals, good story, interesting characters, great soundtrack and fantastic all around. Hard to put down.

This is among the best games I have ever played and you should play it too. I don't know what else to say. I wasn't even interested in the setting of fedual age Japan. But the game hooked me and the ending puts even movies considered timeless classics to shame.

Finally a game that can really be said to be the best game of 2020.
    Graphics 10/10
game play 10/10 Story 10/10 Control can be stiff and directional at times but still great. I have no idea how the critics gave it such a lower score, but hey they gave tlou2 a 94, and 10/10. I think the time of trusting critics and caring what they they think has passed. The fans are the ones to trust

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the, if not the, best looking game I've ever played. It's an incredibly satisfying open world adventure in a truly unique and beautiful setting. Ghost of Tsushima is a love letter to samurai and samurai movies, particularly to Kurosawa's style. At first glance this game may look like an Assassin's Creed / FarCry / Witcher 3 clone with a samurai skin applied on top, but it is as good as those games but also more than that.

If you are at all interested in Samurai or ninjas, you absolutely need this game. I am a self-admitted

The best samurai game in a long time and a great fun for all, who love action. Love for Japan and its history is a big plus, but its knowledge is not necessary to enjoy every minute of this beautiful game. [Issue#305]

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
