The graphics are great, the story is fun, the daily missions keep you on your toes and the grind to get better gear is tolerable. I have made some good friends from the matchmaking system and honestly I am looking forward to seeing what else is in store for us!

    The one thing I wish they would add is more zones, more types of mobs to fight, and more story with the next expansion to give us something to spend time on that is different and not so grind grind grind.

    Easily the best co-op FPS experience ever in my view. Let down by a lack of in-built ability to find people to play with. If only matching support was there for raids this would be a 10. Granted the SP campaign is a little dull for me co-op is where the action is at.

    Looking back a year and half (when the Taken King expansion launched) I was hoping Bungie would get their act together and really put effort into making the game it was meant to be. While there were still problems with it, the Taken King period (from its release until Rise of Iron) was a very well done year. While there were still problems with it, the Taken King period (from its release until Rise of Iron) was a very well done year. It had a decent story that was passable and at least something to care about. It reworked its quest and stories and made them more clever. The raid was not as complex as Vault of Glass, but not as simple and exploitative like Dark Below, making the middle ground work well and having a blast sending Oryx back to hell.

    The reworks and changes made from the first year dramatically bumped up the quality of the game's overall MMORPG-like nature. It carried alot of the old problems first year Destiny had, but made more far more optimistic for Destiny's future. It was a good time and I enjoyed it the most of Destiny's first three years.

It's just a shame Activision don't give Bungie the free reign to really turn Destiny into a space exploration combat game that it so hyped itself up to be before the original came out. Destiny is really only about the Crucible multiplayer modes. Rift being the best of the bunch. Why I am giving it a 7. Improvement over the original Destiny but the story/guardian missions, levels and universe itself needs to be expanded upon. Give us more to do at the Tower instead of just running from A to B to gear up. Give us more story and missions involving the actual universe characters. Taken King did introduce some of them this time in the story but the world still feels very barren, even though there is a bustling city below the Tower. Why can't we explore the Earth city? or visit a distant alien city brimming with life to track down an assassin or rogue Fallen ala Boba Fett style. Expand

    Destiny has always been a curious game to me, a game that handles well with the potential to be truly amazing but never quite hitting that greatness. The Taken King is a step in the right direction with a properly created set of plot lines through the main quest and strikes. It still suffers from a slight lack of explanation but you're at least in no doubt over why you're fighting Oryx and what he can do.
    The new subclasses are fun, giving each class something they lacked, not just in terms of elemental damage but also in ability to deal damage, impede or trap foes.

    I would rate this higher, but the slap in the face that is the price and the consequences of not getting the expansion are hard to ignore. For an existing playing it's not far off an insult to demand another £40 or lose access to certain features (mainly in the Crucible, where you can't choose exactly what you want to play any more) while Year 1 weapons have pretty much been downgraded to encourage the use of Year 2 gear. For new players, it's not too bad of a deal to get the original game and all the DLC so far.

    Be aware that Taken King doesn't make Destiny any less of a Raider's game, with a requirement to grind a lot to get the best stuff or stand a chance in the highest level content. If you don't have a group of friends to play the game with then you may as well not bother.

The story is great this time and the new missions and strikes have the kind of variety that Year 1 didn't. The quest and bounty systems are huge upgrades. Even the patrols have been upgraded with new ways to play.

    Yet for everything good Bungie brings to Destiny, it seems like they always have to do something bad. RNG (random number generator) remains the best way to find new gear, and if Year 1 taught us anything, its that RNG is a terrible way to reward player activity. The new in-game currency is Legendary Marks, and Legendary Marks are only available from a small number of activities, and most of those are locked away until you reach a higher level. And because you cannot spend Legendary Marks that you cannot earn, the only way to increase your level is to grind away and hope for a lucky reward drop.

    Year 1 content is needlessly made obsolete. Player progress is revealed to be only an illusion as Bungie makes all Year 1 rewards obsolete, providing no in-game incentive to run either of the first two raids or Prison of Elders, the latter of which subsequently be remembered as the worst addition to Destiny. For a new player, running the old content is simply a waste of time in the race to reach a level high enough to play end-game activities.

    In summary, Destiny finally has a story and some variety to missions and strikes. Yet Bungie makes a few anti-player moves that make the in-game economy worse and effectively ruins Year 1 content. Crucible remains the same frustrating shotgun fest it always was.

I wonder how people manage to play this for a year playing even less content than I played. I don't get Destiny fans.

    The biggest problem with this game is that Bungie made some very dumb decisions that totally destroy the endgame. They ditched their old content and made people focus on the last DLC. A game that is already so small becomes even smaller. I don't know (and never will) any previous raids because there's no reason for anyone to run them since the loot is concentrated in King's Fall. Another aspect is that they limit the main quest (raid) to one run per week. So I just play the game on tuesdays. If they wanted to limit the progression they could find other ways to do that. That's just bad design.

    Positives
    - Good combat. It's a great shooter, when there's reason for you to actually play the game;
    - Good graphics, I guess. I was not amazed by any means, but it's competent. Enemies designs are nice.

    Negatives:
    - Bad endgame design decisions;
    - Crazy small world for a MMO-type game. I mean, WTF, it lasts one week (the whole game, all DLC's included);
    - Get's boring ridiculously fast;
    - Poor loot system (I can't even imagine how it was in vanilla times. I hear it was even worse);
    - Terrible story, just terrible. Generic sci-fi art style. I'm not too much into this sci-fi games.

    If PS4, Xbox One OR Wii U had ANY games that had reviews like steel and did not have a significant number of vocal haters swarming around them I could justify paying the price.
    If the record though is not solid why would I want to pay money for a bet that has a high chance of making me lose what I work so hard to get.

    Lets start with the bad. Bungie was always good about giving us a great core game with great DLC. During our Halo years most of us never felt short changed. We felt that we got what we paid for. We got a great campaign (up front) and the blueprint for Multiplayer that kept us coming back for thousands of hours with add ons that felt like we were getting some actual bonus material, not material that was already there getting polished and unlocked for a price. We all know we're getting screwed with Destiny. Whether it be by Bungie and/or Activision we will never know. We can all speculate and assume. The sad truth is, we know the game was far from complete with these add-ons hiding right there in plain sight waiting to be payed to be played. Yet, we keep coming back for more and complaining. We are gluttons for punishment and we do it to ourselves. We keep paying and they'll keep charging.

    The good part is, it actually feels like DLC (that should have been there all along). They included things that should have been in the base game. Cut scenes are great. There is more interaction with the people in the tower. There is some humor thrown in there. Best of all, you cant complete all of the DLC in a few short hours like in previous "add-ons". There is actually some rhyme and reason to everything and the game was well thought out. Enemies are a great addition. The new strikes are actually challenging. The leveling system is overall better. I wish this is what the whole game would've been. Had it been, I think that this game would have been the best game of 2014 and not gotten so many complaints.

    Over all I think the price is a bit ludicrous but for someone who wants a reason to like Destiny, it's worth it. It's worth to see what the bar should have been set at. Sadly, there is no going back and hopefully Bung-Vision can get there act together and see what they need to do if they want to compete with these next gen big titles like Halo and Battleborn for online multiplayer. If they don't keep going forward I feel their "destiny" is to fade into the back... We will see.

    What The Taken king gets right:

    What really gets me in this, you get probably 12 side quests during and after beating the main story.

    Taken are now everywhere, just not on the Dreadnaught. If you go to a planet or moon, they will show up. Which gives it a world like event.

    WoW started to include the main Antognist in there story in explains with Lich King. Allowing the player to encounter it as they progressed. That is done with TTK and it is a move in the right direction IMO.

    The Story telling here is on point and the level designs and flow remind of the starting point on the station on Halo 2. Great stuff!

    Nolan North as the Ghost is amazing. Nathan Fillion as Cayde 6 the Hunter trainer is a perfect fit. You now have banter when you are on a mission which is exactly what this game needed.

    I can't comment on the raid, it went live yesterday and I've yet to do it, I'll update when I do.

    The patch that came before TKK has changed a lot of things and so far everything has been for the better.

    ******What is bad and lost with this expansion******

    Personally, if the level cap was 34, that should be your enemies starting level, not 25.

    The campaign is short and the amount of content is something more the lines of 15-25$. 40$ is too much.

    After a year of being out you can buy everything except for TKK for 20$ which tells me the game hasn't been doing as well as they hoped.

    There is already an exploit to farming exotics again.

    I still have not been provided any additional information to what the heck is going on in this campaign and what has happened in the past. I'm instead left with even more questions.

    I can't shake the feeling this game was indeed chopped up and sold to us bit by bit. It seems like they are testing the community to see how much they can get away with.

    -------My prediction-------

    In November, so 40ish days. Fallout 4, Black Ops 3 and Battlefront all come out within a week of one another. These games will bring the online community of this game down tremendously. I would imagine like what Black Ops 2 did to Halo 4.

    I really wish Bungie would give us more content. There isn't enough here to keep us entertained for a couple of months. They could easily get the community back and in growing numbers if they gave away something simple for free. Not sell you content on a Redbull can.

    I sitll look forward to Destiny 2, where all of this will be fixed and then some.

    Destiny is a great shooter, it handles well and the gunplay is probably some of the best to be found. But that's to be expected given Bungie's history. It also looks good and has a good musical score.
    The PVP is fun, there is a ton of maps and a number of game modes which make it fun to try.

    Modelled as an FPS MMO hybrid, where it fell a little flat for me is on the PVE side. The story is fragmented at best and the expansion story is over pretty fast. There are a number of instances and "hard modes", but unfortunately for the raids there is no matchmaking system and no clan support in game. Which makes it tedious for the casual or average gamer to organize or join a 6 man team.

    This unfortunately prevents the game from being a true great, but the potential is definitely there. Bungie is dedicated to the title and a 10 year run has been touted with expansions and sequels, so optimistic the best is yet to come.

    The voice acting, particularly from Nathan Fillion, is much more charismatic and has much more energy than in the original 'story'. Though still not particularly fantastic, the story added by The Taken King is solid and provides incentive to keep playing on and on. The gameplay is still as flawless as ever, and the levelling system is much simpler now the better equipment you have will dictate how high your level is.

    The lack of matchmaking when it comes to raids is still baffling. Raids are the best part of Destiny, and will provide a much more purposeful end game for everyone if matchmaking was there. In fact, the end game content is the only thing preventing The Taken King from getting higher than a 7.

    All in all though, a huge improvement, with even more potential.

The controls are tight, yes, the graphics are gorgeous and it easily gets you hooked on the grinding for loot. But it seems to me that the point of Destiny is just to keep you playing Destiny. You accomplish nothing, like a dog chasing its own tail. Once you reach endgame, the game really starts to crumble. There is nothing left to do, but a few missions and more grinding. I played it but got bored with the lack of content.

    Bungie/Activision had a vision. Destiny has so, so much potential. But greed spoke louder and killed what could have been on of the best games ever made.

    It was a good ride. Time to move on.

    For everything that TTK does right in this world, it feels like most of the new stuff here should have already been added from the get go. The game isn't trying to be Halo or Warcraft but it certainly could take some cues from both games moving forward.
    I was a late adopter to the Destiny series, not really getting into it until 2 months before TTK. The upgrade from Vanilla to TTK is staggering and really makes you wonder why Bungie didn't do some of these things earlier. While the gameplay is fairly tight, and the new enemies are easily the best in the game, there's still not enough variation in what you do. When you get through the inital 8 story missions that come with the game, and the few that are added afterwards, there's not alot else to do except go find hidden guns that may or may not have been released yet and replay all the missions you've already done before for the grind. The new Raid is easily the best in the game, even if some parts feel overextended to make it seem longer. But the matchmaking in the game is awful and with no in game chat system (everything is done on their website and through the playstation/xbox party channels) it feels like they are purposely dropping the ball on being able to get those things done.
    I personally have found a great group of people to run stuff with but I can already tell this game won't hold my attention for much longer unless they spice things up with more content. And I'm not talking about the one day hidden gun quests that seem to crop up once a week. I'm looking for more story stuff to do and not have to play the same missions over and over again. I do enjoy my time immensely with the game and the people I play with but the light at the end of the tunnel is coming swiftly and I'm not sure Bungie can do enough to keep me from eventually falling off the edge of the world.

    The Taken King, while a massive improvement over the lackluster base game and it's equally unimpressive DLCs (The Dark Below and House of Wolves) only does enough to justify the entire package as it's own release rather than an expatiation to an already existing game. This is what Destiny should have been at launch; especially when considering the fact that every piece of DLC includingThe Taken King, while a massive improvement over the lackluster base game and it's equally unimpressive DLCs (The Dark Below and House of Wolves) only does enough to justify the entire package as it's own release rather than an expatiation to an already existing game. This is what Destiny should have been at launch; especially when considering the fact that every piece of DLC including this one had already been seen completed in BUNGiEs vidocs an entire year before release. and this is only one of the many ethically questionable practices surrounding this game, as this DLC has effectively paywalled large portions of the original game's content off to the people that already own it, but have not bought the DLC.
    (Opinions may change in regards to the Raid upon it's completion)
    The actual good and bad points of the DLC itself can be presented in simple bullet points.

    Things Taken King does right
    +Presents a far more cohesive narrative
    +corrects some major balance problems with PvP
    +Adds a significant amount of content
    +fixes the over-reliance on RNG and luck for progression
    +Some more creative bass design
    +Nathan Fillion's incredible performance as Cayde is hugely entertaining and deserves it's own point
    +many new activities to get yourself immersed in
    +Raid-like bosses as a public event is a great feature on it's own
    +The processes of grinding has been made more interesting and has more replay value
    -While an improvement over the nonexistent story of vanilla Destiny the current one is still shallow at best
    -Paywalls vanilla game content
    -invalidates the vast majority of the content from the original release
    -Major balancing issues in PvP like shotguns and Supers still persist
    -Most mainline story Bosses still rely on the un-inspired bullet sponge design
    -lackluster generic musical score
    -Obtuse and generally dysfunctional community makes playing with randoms hard to tolerate
    -BUNGiE still relies on third parry fan sites to do their job of matchmaking Raid parties with no ingame solution as of yet.
    -still No ingame chat with non-party members
    -still no ingame economy
    -BUNGiEs business model is still a massive turnoff

    Overall, this was a major improvement then the vanilla version. The story missions feel more connected, you get a closer look at some major supporting characters and you are not left scratching your head when you finish.

    That being said, this should have been what was released on day one and the fact that it took an entire year to get it right is not acceptable. I did enjoy this

I did enjoy this expansion the most out of the other two that were released but it made me look back at all the previous content and just feel sad that this was not how the game was presented in the first place.

    The game plays well and is fun but the story falls short of expectations and there are just too many things that don't make any sense unless you read the lore from the mobile app...

    About the game, I must say they have done good improvements, the quests are really interesting, although they are reusing old maps, I really prayed for a long storyline this time, but it came short again. All the old gear is useless, all the old content is useless because they didn't rebalance the loots. It looks like if the big decisions were being taken by kids.

    I have to say that the new area is pretty awesome, and have lots of things to do, I would've added easier ways to get there with your team mates, but is still very cool. The assaults were... just assaults, as usual, no fun, just a run run run bang bang bang, smash the bosses head to the ground with your heavy ammo. And the new light system doesn't fit at all, I find it very easy to gear up now, back in the days you had to work hard to get cool gear, now is way to simple.

    I've played Crucible and found my new style with Scout rifles instead of hand cannons, I appreciate very much not to see everyone using Last Word or Thorn, great job here. The new modes and maps are fun to play, but again locks for people who had already payed 100€! **** move there...

    Update 2.0 was great, they balanced some weapons that were really anoying, but the lock to old content is really low; i can't even believe it! I've been reading the forums and some people claim they had a refund, others say they are complaining to the BBB... Bungie should reallythink about what they are doing here.

    I only have one thing to say, I loved this game, but taking a look at the decisions Bungie and Activision have done with this reselling-locking DLC... This is the last time I pay them anything else related to Destiny, I'll make the most I can out of it and hopefully find a new MMO shooter to play, like the ones to come: Battlefront, The Division or Ghost Recon Wildlands.

    I was a huge fan of Destiny. I had put so many hours into it but now I just can't keep buying expansions for only 6 - 8 hours of "NEW" content if even that and then to just keep reusing the some old stuff. The original game itself on release day wasn't that big and the story itself was really bad. I couldn't get into or understand it clearly. Destiny is the most disappointing game in 2014, having large enough plot gaps for an army of Spartans to fall in, the developers made a website to explain the story because they didn't have time to explain. In The Taken King they finally had time to explain why they didn't have time to explain.

    The Taken King addition corrects majority of errors that Destiny had from the beginning and finally brings a larger portion of the story and lot of new content to explore. [Issue#258]

    For the first time, Destiny feels like it’s complete. It’s not perfect, far from it in fact, and I still can’t entirely disagree when they speak of the package itself as bad. But I’ve also been unable to put it down for the past month I’ve played it.
