    Pros
    * Story, Game play and fun factor are all up there. Graphics are pretty impressive and so far I'm not getting bored by any of the new content.
*Mechanics are being changed ( this can be a con but for me its a pro) - it shows the the designers don't pick one formula and stick with it no matter what. New expansions generally also brings about changes to the game. I see a lot of reviews here bashing on the end game content of year 1 being useless but this is a general trend for most MMO style games. ---->> Be prepared for this on the next expansion. I can almost guarantee another release down the road with a raised level cap and a change in mechanics.

    Cons:
*Tutorials and explanations are lacking - there could be a lot more done on explaining some of concepts to new comers.
*New expansion blocks out users unless you buy it which is a really bad decision to make. They could have done what most MMOs do and just block the new content from users who don't have TTK and modify the stats on everyone's gear to keep things balanced. But just to play devil advocate there is no monthly fee going to Bungie so expect similar releases that you have to pay down the road.

Great expansion. Tons of things to do. I've played for over 8 hours and still have lots of quests to start. Just sad my year 1 exotics are quickly being left behind.

This game is just being attacked by the hateful angry gamer community. Please ignore the ridiculous 0 and 5 scores and listen to me. Destiny the Taken King is what the original destiny should have been, and thats a very good thing. Lets list off the pros and cons of this very divisive game a put these 12 year old "user review" trolls to rest.

    Pros:

    1. Story. Destiny TTK contains 5+ story missions, but thats not all. These levels contain excellent voice acting, top notch cutscenes and great mechanics. These missions are gaming at it's best, these even give halo a run for it's money. Not only of they feature tight gameplay, but they feature great fleshed out characters and even a bit of humor. Thats one thing that destiny needed desperately, a good story and as shocking as it may sound, TTK has a great story with excellent missions to tell it. After the main quest is over there are plenty of extra missions to play which explain more of the side stories within the destiny universe.

    2. Strikes. For those new to destiny there are larger missions in which you have a specific target you must take out. In the past these "targets" or boss battles where known for simply being bullet sponges, but I'm glad to say thats a thing of the past. All boss battle's either contain unique mechanics the boss himself has or the the battle ground itself is dynamic and changes. There are 3 or 4 lengthy strikes within this expansion and there all very fun in my opinion. If not watch some lets plays if your skeptical.

    3. Crucible. PVP multiplayer is top notch, it's Halo but tighter and higher focus on verticality. It has both a balanced mode, which is the normal, and a purposefully unbalanced mode named the iron banner that comes once a month and gives out great rewards. There are plenty of modes bungie has given players for PVP gameplay, but there are some which standout such as the Destiny classic control which involves players capturing points of interest and defending them from their opponents. Rift is also another new mode of which is pretty much capture the flag but given a destiny spin, and i must say it's very entertaining. There is also a type of gameplay called mayhem, which consists of you having a very fast "super" refill time. Pretty much explosions everywhere, very fun indeed. There are also "infernal" modes of every single one of these modes that simply turn off the radar, making PVP 10 times harder than usual, but it's tons of fun. There are more than 25 different and fun multiplayer maps of which 8 of them are brand new with the The Taken King.

    4. Guns and Gear.... way too much to talk about... i mean there is tons and tons of new gear and guns including brand new exotic weapons (pretty much the best guns in the game with unique integrated mechanics). What I can tell you is that YOU WILL find a gun and setup thats suits your needs.

    Cons

    1. Old Players. Those that do not buy the taken king will almost be forced to buy it. Destiny might be a sudo MMO of which you don't pay a monthly fee for, but every 3-4 months you will need to buy the expansion or have content locked to you within the vanilla game. So just consider Destiny like a strange game of which you have to pay every 3-4 months to play. Some might consider this off-putting. Something to consider.

    2. Once your done with the content you must replay it to get more rewards, some do not like the grind that Destiny offers, but it would also not be seen as a negative. I and other players actually enjoy the grind, we play a couple hours everyday to get more loot and items to acquire and collect exotic armor pieces and weapons. Though some might find this to be a negative.

Overall I would say the taken king gets a 10 out of 10 in my book. It's exactly the game I'm looking for, but i understand that others might consider it lower. Though with the raid coming which is always the best part of destiny, your opinion on the game might change drastically. I would say for your regular casual Destiny TTK gets a 8/10, but if your looking forward to the grind, collecting exotics, and playing with friends and raiding on the weekends, then boy are you going to love this game. guaranteed you will get way more than your moneys worth. Either way you will like this game. So don't listen to the ridiculous 0/10 and 1/10 reviews. Sadly the trolls never sleep. and Destiny is just another example of how much hatred and childish behaviors there is in the gaming hate culture. Hope my review was helpful. :) (BTW the base game without grind is about 10-20 hours for all content not just main quest, main quest is like 6 hours).

This is in my opinion one of the best games of all time, and I've been gaming since the Sega Mega Drive.

Most of the people on here giving bad reviews haven't even played the TK expansion yet, as they have admitted in their reviews, so those comments should be removed by Meta Critic!

Destiny's done a lot of things right, but it's also done a hell of a lot of things wrong, and I was honestly kinda ready for TTK to be the DLC that sucked enough to tear me away from the series once and for all.

And so here I am, pleasantly surprised.

-The main campaign is only a few hours long, but leagues beyond the original game in terms of quality and variety. New cutscenes and loads of dialogue give existing mannequin quest-givers personality and charm (Fillion's Cayde-6 steals the show).
-Strike bosses actually have interesting mechanics and abilities that change the way you play instead of just being giant enemies with tons of health and tiered minion spawns.
-King's fall is easily twice the length of any previous Raid activity, while combining the exploration and intrigue of the Vault of Glass with the fast-paced action of Crota's End.
-The new subclasses are great fun and drastically change your team's playstyle and strategy with their new abilities.
-The new leveling system isn't perfect, but its constant progression is a huge improvement over the base game's tiered light system.
-And for the mmo-esque players who love quests and grind with a payoff, there are tons of additional side quests and rewards to unlock. There are a good number of fun little secrets, many of which still have yet to be discovered weeks into the DLC's life cycle.

Sadly, it's worth mentioning a few things that likely have caused the high number of negative reviews here.

First is excusable. Bungie backtracked on a major tenant of their design by making a huge portion of old gear obsolete. Many people will be sad saying goodbye to some of their old favorites (especially a number of game-breaking but fun toys), but by mostly rebuilding the new sandbox and balance from scratch, Bungie has really made a much more fun RPG system with a much wider arsenal of viable gear. Vanilla's PvE and PvP meta's were gamed and optimal loadouts named well before the game even launched through the Beta, while almost every new toy we get seems to have a niche it effectively fills and a strategy it works for. It's a tough bandaid for many to peel off, but once you do, the game is far better for its new, rebalanced gear sandbox.

The second is inexcusable. Destiny has a history of allowing non-DLC owners to progress just short of the max level (normally attained with Raid gear, only available from the DLC Raid), but this time, they capped the level for players at 34, well below the level necessary to do the rotating end-game content. Most of the new random drops they get will be rated a higher xp level than the game will let them progress to. The previous DLC-locking practice was already a tiny bit shady yet excusable (to let the DLC content into the rotations), but this is just kinda **** for non-DLC owners; there's a reason the demo of the game actually unlocks the full game, and that's because it might as well be a demo at this point. If someone was leery of purchasing the DLC and hadn't quite made up their mind, this is all the excuse they need to not support Activision's practices.

But still, in terms of the DLC itself, it's everything the base game should have been. If you're still willing to give Destiny a chance after the **** it's pulled, then there's plenty of both quality and quantity put into this package. After a few weeks of playing, I'd be willing to say this offers as much value as the base game itself, and it's remarkable just how much Bungie has learned from just a year of development.

Taken king improves Destiny substantially. The new gear system is much more rewarding and feels more progressive, you don't get stuck at level 24 any longer and only stop progressing after you reach around 290+, which is the point at which you need to do raids. There is more story in the first 30 minutes of TTK than in all of the original game. There is so much to the game now and the puzzle now add a challenge to the game.

It's an evolving game and as it evolves, Bungie must put its priority on new players and dedicated players who are going to have faith in them and put down the cash. It's a fantastic expansion and between the framework changes, the new approach to storylines and quests, and the huge increase in things to do, it's well worth the $40 if you ever enjoyed Destiny at all or are coming in brand new.

And many people saying there's not enough content to justify the price are also hiding some sort of a hidden "bash Destiny at all costs" agenda. Something that the positive critic reviews (which at this point remains to be *all of them*) are all agreeing on is that there is a wealth of stuff to do in TTK.

Most of the negative reviews really just seem like people whining because they want something for nothing or people who haven't even played it at all yet.

What really gets me in this, you get probably 12 side quests during and after beating the main story.

Taken are now everywhere, just not on the Dreadnaught. If you go to a planet or moon, they will show up. Which gives it a world like event.

WoW started to include the main Antognist in there story in explains with Lich King. Allowing the player to encounter it as they progressed. That is done with TTK and it is a move in the right direction IMO.

The Story telling here is on point and the level designs and flow remind of the starting point on the station on Halo 2. Great stuff!

Nolan North as the Ghost is amazing. Nathan Fillion as Cayde 6 the Hunter trainer is a perfect fit. You now have banter when you are on a mission which is exactly what this game needed.

I can't comment on the raid, it went live yesterday and I've yet to do it, I'll update when I do.

The patch that came before TKK has changed a lot of things and so far everything has been for the better.

******What is bad and lost with this expansion******

Personally, if the level cap was 34, that should be your enemies starting level, not 25.

The campaign is short and the amount of content is something more the lines of 15-25$. 40$ is too much.

After a year of being out you can buy everything except for TKK for 20$ which tells me the game hasn't been doing as well as they hoped.

There is already an exploit to farming exotics again.

I still have not been provided any additional information to what the heck is going on in this campaign and what has happened in the past. I'm instead left with even more questions.

I can't shake the feeling this game was indeed chopped up and sold to us bit by bit. It seems like they are testing the community to see how much they can get away with.

    -------My prediction-------

In November, so 40ish days. Fallout 4, Black Ops 3 and Battlefront all come out within a week of one another. These games will bring the online community of this game down tremendously. I would imagine like what Black Ops 2 did to Halo 4.

I really wish Bungie would give us more content. There isn't enough here to keep us entertained for a couple of months. They could easily get the community back and in growing numbers if they gave away something simple for free. Not sell you content on a Redbull can.

I sitll look forward to Destiny 2, where all of this will be fixed and then some.

There is a ton of new content in this game. The story telling is vastly improved, both in the new cutscenes (of which there are a lot) and in the voice acting. Nathan Fillion and Nolan North provide great dialogue, which is funny on many occasions.

The Dreadnaught is also huge. There are the main areas to be explored, but the ship contains numerous little tunnels and areas to explore, each having some type of chest or secret mechanic to discover which opens up new rewards. Court of Oryx provides interesting new play mechanics, there are 4 new strikes to play through, two on the dreadnaught, one on earth and one on Venus. Vog and Crota areas now have story missions attached to them, so you can explore those areas if you didn't have a chance to raid in year 1. Other reviewers mistakenly say that much of the story recycles old maps, but that's simply not the case, especially for those who had trouble finding raiding groups. Mayhem and Rift are great additions to the Crucible playlist and there are a number of new maps to play on as well. Mayhem might be the best addition that comes with Taken King.

The removal of light level to reach the experience cap at lvl 40 is a great improvement. Reaching level 40 will unlock the content, but light level is still needed to beat those bosses. This structure makes a lot more sense since it doesn't lock out content now for landing change weapons. Playing through harder levels becomes easier with better weapons, but it's still possible to play that content without the best gear. It's a much fairer system. Not perfect yet, but a lot closer.

This is easily a game that could have sold for $60 that only costs $40. It's clear from others reviewing that they either didn't play TTK at all or didn't finish the main story mission. This is what Destiny should have been when it was released a year ago. I'm excited to see what it becomes moving forward. It is certainly a much more rewarding experience than it was before.

Love it, a lot of comments of people complaining about the dlc without even buy it. It`s true vanilla destiny was a beta of the taken king, but we got to be objective and judge this DLC/game for what it offers. I will be referring about the TTK as the legendary edition, the physical 60$ dollars one, and it has tons of content if you look at it as a brand new game. Do you want a list? ok 1.Love it, a lot of comments of people complaining about the dlc without even buy it. If you have never played Destiny or you stop at level 20 this is the perfect moment to grab a copy for you and your friends and star shooting!!. Expand

I came into The Taken King sceptical, but having played it for the last 2 weeks has been very entertaining with friends.

Destiny has always been a curious game to me, a game that handles well with the potential to be truly amazing but never quite hitting that greatness. The Taken King is a step in the right direction with a properly created set of plot lines through the main quest and strikes. It still suffers from a slight lack of explanation but you're at least in no doubt over why you're fighting Oryx and what he can do.
The new subclasses are fun, giving each class something they lacked, not just in terms of elemental damage but also in ability to deal damage, impede or trap foes.

I would rate this higher, but the slap in the face that is the price and the consequences of not getting the expansion are hard to ignore. For an existing playing it's not far off an insult to demand another £40 or lose access to certain features (mainly in the Crucible, where you can't choose exactly what you want to play any more) while Year 1 weapons have pretty much been downgraded to encourage the use of Year 2 gear. For new players, it's not too bad of a deal to get the original game and all the DLC so far.

Be aware that Taken King doesn't make Destiny any less of a Raider's game, with a requirement to grind a lot to get the best stuff or stand a chance in the highest level content. If you don't have a group of friends to play the game with then you may as well not bother.

The Taken King shows off Destiny's full potential. This is a must have.

The Taken King addition corrects majority of errors that Destiny had from the beginning and finally brings a larger portion of the story and lot of new content to explore. [Issue#258]

For the first time, Destiny feels like it’s complete. It’s not perfect, far from it in fact, and I still can’t entirely disagree when they speak of the package itself as bad. But I’ve also been unable to put it down for the past month I’ve played it.
