    I have mixed emotions in this game.

    The game play is great and there are more activities to do. I'm also glad that Bungie is starting to have some character development.

    In the end, it gets boring after all of the useless grinding.

    A huge improvement on the Destiny that we got at launch, The Taken King is finally the Destiny that people expected. A boost to the story, as well as new sub-classes for each class, new missions and new raids, everything about The Taken King expands and improves on the lackluster original Destiny adventure.

    The voice acting, particularly from Nathan Fillion, is much more charismatic and    A huge improvement on the Destiny that we got at launch, The Taken King is finally the Destiny that people expected. A boost to the story, as well as new sub-classes for each class, new missions and new raids, everything about The Taken King expands and improves on the lackluster original Destiny adventure.

    The voice acting, particularly from Nathan Fillion, is much more charismatic and has much more energy than in the original 'story'. Though still not particularly fantastic, the story added by The Taken King is solid and provides incentive to keep playing on and on. The gameplay is still as flawless as ever, and the levelling system is much simpler now the better equipment you have will dictate how high your level is.

    The lack of matchmaking when it comes to raids is still baffling. Raids are the best part of Destiny, and will provide a much more purposeful end game for everyone if matchmaking was there. In fact, the end game content is the only thing preventing The Taken King from getting higher than a 7.

    I've had the game for less than 48 hours and I'm already at lvl 32. All story missions are way below my character lvl and the story is incoherent at best, utterly meaningless at worst. All strikes are way below it too. There's no easy way of joining a team to do a raid. The crucible PvP is fun and feels like it's the main game. That say s a lot really

    Not your same old boring Call of Duty game. So if you're looking for something like COD this is not it. By the makers of Halo This feels "KINDA" Halo-ish. Gun play is great, supers feel great "superpowers" (if you're looking for something thats more based in "reality" this is not for you at all.) This is a Sci-fi, Fantasy, MOBA-Lite. The BIG problem is the story very open ended and notNot your same old boring Call of Duty game. So if you're looking for something like COD this is not it.     The biggest problem with this game is that Bungie made some very dumb decisions that totally destroy the endgame. They ditched their old content and made people focus on the last DLC. A game that is already so small becomes even smaller. I don't know (and never will) any previous raids because there's no reason for anyone to run them since the loot is concentrated in King's Fall. Another aspect is that they limit the main quest (raid) to one run per week. So I just play the game on tuesdays. If they wanted to limit the progression they could find other ways to do that. That's just bad design.

    Positives
    - Good combat. It's a great shooter, when there's reason for you to actually play the game;
    - Good graphics, I guess. I was not amazed by any means, but it's competent. Enemies designs are nice.

    Negatives:
    - Bad endgame design decisions;
    - Crazy small world for a MMO-type game. I mean, WTF, it lasts one week (the whole game, all DLC's included);
    - Get's boring ridiculously fast;
    - Poor loot system (I can't even imagine how it was in vanilla times. I hear it was even worse);
    - Terrible story, just terrible. Generic sci-fi art style. I'm not too much into this sci-fi games.    … Expand

    First off don't listen to the majority of the critics reviews for this game, they clearly have not played more than a couple of hours if any.

    As a player of 1200+ hours, having completed all the content of the game the two main thought's that come to mind when considering Destiny or Destiny The Taken King are Disappointing and Frustrating.     As with all the 'expansions' including this one I had cleared all the content in less than a week. The only thing that keeps you playing is that they have a random loot system which either gives you no loot at all or more often than not requires you to grind the same content over and over, for example as I write this I have roughly 40 or more clears of the current raid and yet I have received only 2 helms out of 40+ chances.

    With this expansion they have introduced Light levels which make you stronger so with gear perks when doing any content you are looking at triple random rolls on any loot you get. Firstly will it drop the item you need, second will it be of higher light than your current one and third will it have decent perks on it.

    They removed the option of re-rolling the perks and infusing any lower item with a higher one only transfers 80% of the light level to the new item (70% in the case of an exotic). So if you got a 300 item you liked the look of and with the perks you're looking for you would need probably 1 x 310, 1 x 315 and 1 x 320 items (of the same slot) for infusion in order to use it a maximum.

    I drone on but what this basically amounts to is a huge waste of time.

    The gun play is great and the only real reason to play it beyond 40 hours. However they nerf everything continuously in order to create new meta weapons in order to keep you playing longer collecting the next one and testing your weapons out looking for an advantage.

    Destiny has been compared to a hamster wheel or Skinner box where we are just play testing for them for Destiny 2 or how to rinse the most amount of money out of a gamer.

    It's a great game on all aspects except for the most serious one. Communication. The game has none whatsoever and the communities/clans you find in bungie's site or ps4 console are not helping at all. So forget about end game and raiding unless you play with friends.

    The PVP is fun, there is a ton of maps and a number of game modes which make it fun to try.

    Modelled as an FPS MMO hybrid, where it fell a little flat for me is on the PVE side. The story is fragmented at best and the expansion story is over pretty fast. There are a number of instances and "hard modes", but unfortunately for the raids there is no matchmaking system and no clan support in game. Which makes it tedious for the casual or average gamer to organize or join a 6 man team.

    This unfortunately prevents the game from being a true great, but the potential is definitely there. Bungie is dedicated to the title and a 10 year run has been touted with expansions and sequels, so optimistic the best is yet to come.    … Expand

    I rank Destiny as the best game I have ever purchased for the PS3. It is everything I want in style and gun play. I have played it for far too many hours/days/months. The style and movement of the game blows me away. I really enjoy the online world interaction. So, it saddens to give a bad review but Destiny, you are trying to rip me off!     To veterans, all what you did in year 1. Its over, start grinding again. To newbies, you didnt miss much. Its nice to see that new strikes have been added, new weapons look good and even some story has been thrown in. Its all fairly good.     If this is destiny's plan for the next 10 years, then all i can say is good luck. If we can just expect expansions which make you grind heavily, repeating missions over and over again, hoping that the random drop bless you then its going to be an uphill battle for them. Yes there will always be a fan base, and destiny benefited in 2014 since there werent that many major games on ps4 at that time. But now they are going to struggle more with all the big releases coming out. We have already seen witcher 3, metal gear solid, fallout 4, black ops 3 (not a fan but its worthy to note due to its huge fan base and relevance). Soon other games will be out to compete with gamers play time. To name a few uncharted 4, starwars, the division, ghost recon, and many others.

Overall, Destiny is a solid shooter with impressive sound design and landscapes. However, artificial padding with a brutal RNG makes for a frustrating experience. I mean, if you think about it, what's the point of playing Destiny? The controls are tight, yes, the graphics are gorgeous and it easily gets you hooked on the grinding for loot.     Overall, this was a major improvement then the vanilla version. The story missions feel more connected, you get a closer look at some major supporting characters and you are not left scratching your head when you finish.

    That being said, this should have been what was released on day one and the fact that it took an entire year to get it right is not acceptable. I did enjoy this expansion the most out of the other two that were released but it made me look back at all the previous content and just feel sad that this was not how the game was presented in the first place.

    Brilliant part about it is the price (Legendary edition for under £40), for the price you are getting A LOT of content IF you didn't play year one or own the DLC. Unfortunately for me I did and also owned the season pass because I'm a sucker to getting everything. However, Bungie know this and have continued to leech off of its fanbase and definitely not worth the £40 it costs to upgrade from year one. Level caps are very realistic, don't take particularly long to reach and with some lucky RNG could be a higher level in your first week than some people who have been playing since day one.

    The game p**ses on its loyal fanbase, further enhanced with it's new micro-transactions. I'm not one to be anti micro-transaction as they're a choice but having time exclusive dances that require a larger top-up then necessary takes the biscuit. Again this is optional, but is still staring in the eyes of danger and isn't exactly showing a promising future for Bungie's new view on micro-transactions. The game also isn't rewarding in its PVP aspect, constantly rewarding the worst players on teams and still haven't fulfilled their promise since week one of Destiny to clamp down on PVP cheaters, to the level I've never experience on an online game before.

    If you're looking to get addicted to a game and are ultimately a collector this is the perfect game for you. If you're going for a game that feels rewarding and worth putting time into, look elsewhere because this game is just one big grind.    … Expand

    First, I'm not a fans on pvp... review for pve only +control(i suck on first-person with controller but this is great!) +simple casual game that can enjoy with buddy +is fun when you group with skilled guardian +glitch exploit tee hee -lack of contents(old guardian told me before..., after 2 months playing times, I know their feeling    My review after playing around 2 months..

    -still weak story... (Only few new bounties/patrol)

    +Recommended if you want a game that play with friends
    -Stay away if you are alone... You will get kicked in raid when you suck for the *first time* (only exp guardian are welcome)

    By the very design of Destiny i was gagging for more content and i am glad i spent the £40 to play Destiny as it should have been on launch with all the story in there, its just a shame we all had to pay £140 for the privilege.

    Now i am done with the taken king having completed the raid i can say have enjoyed the last month or two of strikes and raids with my mates.

    Destiny is still everything that is wrong with games these days but that gameplay is addictive as hell.    … Expand

    This is the best content so far. However, all in all its the same old thing. The game still forces you in playing modes so you can get just a chance at maybe getting gear that you need. I'm done now with this game.

    This is what should have been in the initial release of the game. A lot of the issues in the first year have been fixed, the UI is a bit more intuitive, the VA has improved, and the matchmaking works pretty well. The story mode has enough content to warrant it being called a single player campaign now, and the additional missions actually give more than a weekend's worth of things to do.This is what should have been in the initial release of the game.     I had to pay for the past two expansions even thought they're no longer supported. The PvE is much improved, but still very lacking when compared to similar games like Borderlands 2. The PvP is abysmal. There is no matchmaking so you might end up against much better equipped and experienced players.     For everything that TTK does right in this world, it feels like most of the new stuff here should have already been added from the get go. A focus on new content has Bungie holding back on certain missions for new weapons just so we have "new" stuff to play over the coming weeks, severely hampering the already limited amount of content that was added to the game. The game isn't trying to be Halo or Warcraft but it certainly could take some cues from both games moving forward.
    I was a late adopter to the Destiny series, not really getting into it until 2 months before TTK. The upgrade from Vanilla to TTK is staggering and really makes you wonder why Bungie didn't do some of these things earlier. While the gameplay is fairly tight, and the new enemies are easily the best in the game, there's still not enough variation in what you do. When you get through the inital 8 story missions that come with the game, and the few that are added afterwards, there's not alot else to do except go find hidden guns that may or may not have been released yet and replay all the missions you've already done before for the grind. The new Raid is easily the best in the game, even if some parts feel overextended to make it seem longer. But the matchmaking in the game is awful and with no in game chat system (everything is done on their website and through the playstation/xbox party channels) it feels like they are purposely dropping the ball on being able to get those things done.
    I personally have found a great group of people to run stuff with but I can already tell this game won't hold my attention for much longer unless they spice things up with more content. And I'm not talking about the one day hidden gun quests that seem to crop up once a week. I'm looking for more story stuff to do and not have to play the same missions over and over again. I do enjoy my time immensely with the game and the people I play with but the light at the end of the tunnel is coming swiftly and I'm not sure Bungie can do enough to keep me from eventually falling off the edge of the world.    … Expand

    Destiny has always been a curious game to me, a game that handles well with the potential to be truly amazing but never quite hitting that greatness. It still suffers from a slight lack of explanation but you're at least in no doubt over why you're fighting Oryx and what he can do.
    The new subclasses are fun, giving each class something they lacked, not just in terms of elemental damage but also in ability to deal damage, impede or trap foes.

    I would rate this higher, but the slap in the face that is the price and the consequences of not getting the expansion are hard to ignore. For an existing playing it's not far off an insult to demand another £40 or lose access to certain features (mainly in the Crucible, where you can't choose exactly what you want to play any more) while Year 1 weapons have pretty much been downgraded to encourage the use of Year 2 gear. For new players, it's not too bad of a deal to get the original game and all the DLC so far.

    The trouble with the PS4 and Xbox One is like the Wii U they seem to have a lot of potential your like yeah lets get on this bandwagon of hype and get some subs.
    Then you look at the games and the console this happens especially with PS4 and Xbox One the games on these consoles seem foreign and lack the hype of previous games.

    If the record though is not solid why would I want to pay money for a bet that has a high chance of making me lose what I work so hard to get.
    For me these console companies have made it appear to me that the risk of buying these new games is higher than the reward BARF I wish I never had to say that but at some point I've got to put my foot down...    … Expand

    It's an ok expansion but not worth the $40 price for year 1 players definitely worth the $60 if your new to the game.

    They took off the light level and moved the name over, so now its your Item level. The ability to infuse gear is great now I can keep what I want to look cool but now gear has really bad abilities.     Strikes are ok but I keep getting the same 4 strikes over and over again.
    Nightfall is useless, you don't get the experience boost anymore(no fire head either) and you have a low exotic drop rate. that's right you do nightfall and theres no guarantee you will get an exotic. I've done 6 nightfall's so far and have only gotten 1 exotic.
    By the way the S.A.B.E.R. nightfall was OP just at the warsat event. other then that the rest of the nightfall was easy.
    Difficulty was slightly increased and the taken, while others say they are just reskins Bungie never said they weren't reskins I don't know why you thought they would be different, but the taken are the same mobs with new more annoying abilities.
    Not all year 1 exotics moved to year 2 and most of them weren't that good. year 2 gear is ok but they don't have that appeal or the must have that year 1 did.
    the 3rd sub classes are ok. the titan's sunbreaker is like a long range striker. warlock's stormcaller is ok but one placed shotgun blast and you go down since it's within range and hunter's nightstalker is just support and I believe its the first support type subclass in the game.    … Expand

    I'm mainly a PC gamer, but bought Taken King for the PS4. My friends and I beat the main story/campaign in a night, and now we're all mostly 295 light level starting our second week of the game. The story was OK, but nothing to write home about. Taken King does some things right: Grouping with friends is easy and mostly enjoyable, and farming exotics can be kind of addicting. The story was OK, but nothing to write home about. Taken King does some things right: Grouping with friends is easy and mostly enjoyable, and farming exotics can be kind of addicting. The downsides: Anyone who bought destiny in year 1 will feel ripped off, as the Taken King is expensive at $59.99. Some of the missions are unforgiving and tedious (there is a low skill ceiling on these types of slower console shooters that revolve around taking cover and regenerating shields). PVP has been kind of a let down, everyone has shotguns and hand cannons. Flip a coin: Heads - you have a few good folks on your team who seek objectives and cover teammates and Tails - you have 5 mindless idiots on your team who wonder around the map aimlessly.

    Bottom line: Do you already own a console and have a couple buddies who are looking for a team shooter? Pick this up and have fun for a bit. If you're sort of picky about what games you play, be careful with this one. I would not advise buying a console just for this one. I have had fun with my friends on here, but I am very disappointed with the PVP (Crucibles)    … Expand

    Destiny is the most disappointing game in 2014, having large enough plot gaps for an army of Spartans to fall in, the developers made a website to explain the story because they didn't have time to explain. In The Taken King they finally had time to explain why they didn't have time to explain.

    To put it short, I believe this is ALMOST the game that Bungie initially set out to give us. The new leveling system and having your gear score linked with your light level is a very welcomed fix. The cut-scenes are beautiful, and they give us a glimpse of what the studio is capable of in terms of story telling. Is the story good? No. The story is mediocre at best. But with the lowTo put it short, I believe this is ALMOST the game that Bungie initially set out to give us. The new leveling system and having your gear score linked with your light level is a very welcomed fix. The cut-scenes are beautiful, and they give us a glimpse of what the studio is capable of in terms of story telling. Is the story good? No. The story is mediocre at best. But with the low expectations caused by year 1, The Taken King's plot is MUCH easier to follow. And now, Guardians have a clear purpose, and cause, as they tread around the galaxy. And by galaxy, I mean all the planets you already have discovered, plus a ship on Saturn's ring. The new quest system is cool at first. But after an hour or two into them, you realize that they are nothing but tedious tasks. The biggest selling point being the new raid, Kings Fall, is a lot of fun to play with your friends. But, the boss mechanics are very easy, and I find myself not feeling challenged, but just mad at my friends for not being about to communicate properly. If you did not play year one, I would say pick this up. You will have a good amount of content to go through and everything will be very new to you. If you played through year one, it's really a toss up whether or not you will like this one. I'm coming up on week 2, and I'm already starting to feel like I'm just about to run out of content. With all that being said.... This xpac shows that Bungie is very capable at listening to their community and responding with the appropriate content. And that gives me a little more faith, and also leads me to believe that "Destiny 2" might just be the game we were all hoping for with the Vanilla release.… Expand

    The Taken King addition corrects majority of errors that Destiny had from the beginning and finally brings a larger portion of the story and lot of new content to explore. [Issue#258]

    For the first time, Destiny feels like it’s complete. It’s not perfect, far from it in fact, and I still can’t entirely disagree when they speak of the package itself as bad. But I’ve also been unable to put it down for the past month I’ve played it.
