I paid $7.99 for it during the 2021 summer sale of Steam, and every cent is worth of it.

Battlefield Hardline is something different, it's frankenstein experiment. It's not a bad game, but definitely it's not the best of the series. Gun play is typical for battlefield, story is pretty good, multiplayer is fun even in 2021. Good game.

Hello fine folks on the interwebs B-rod here with a late review trying to play catch up. Game industry decided the last two weeks of March to unleash hell on us gamers with five games simultaneously coming out. Anyways the easiest of the five to get through is Battlefield hardline (because of length nothing else). Anyways without further ado let us dive into this mountain of Cocaine that is Battlefield Hardline.

The story is rather interesting. It is a full game but tells the story as if you are watching CSI Miami. It literally has a previously on Battlefield Hardline. Unlike anything by Dick Wolf, this game feels and acts more like a cop show on HBO not like The Wire or True Detective; it just feels like it can be on HBO with all the violence and cussing, and grittiness. You are Mendoza a newish detective who is a stick up his ass cop, so a cop. The only way I remembered this guys name is because his last name is Mendoza like the Mcbain villain from The Simpsons. The story is you (Mendoza) trying to take down the ever growing drug trafficking that is taking over Florida. I can't say anymore to the story without giving it away but it gets way more complicated than that. I will say this is the best single player in a Battlefield game since the first Bad Company. I know that is not saying a lot, but Visceral actually put some effort into this story unlike most of FPS storylines.

The game is beautiful in both the environment and cutscenes. The characters don't have that dead durrr face that you seen with many games from a previous generation. The environments aren't repetitive at all they actually vary quite a bit. Something that was nice because you are a cop there was no war zones in the Middle East in this game. I can't tell you how sick and tired I am of killing the same faceless enemies in the middle east. Now because the AI couldn't wear things covering their face I arrested the same guy quite a few times in the same level. Don't get me wrong this is more a nitpick than an actual complaint, but it was noticeable. The sound was equally adequate. The environments felt alive, the slums, felt like people lived there, while the swamps had that annoying gnat flying into the characters ear. The voice acting is on par with the effects. Being that this is a very story heavy single player the voice acting had to be good and this game delivers.

The gameplay is unlike any other Battlefield game to date. It is a lot more stealth heavy versus the run and gun, and blow **** up like every single Battlefield before it. They added a ton of components that make you feel more like a cop than even L.A. Noire did. You can flash your badge to make enemies freeze, arrest all enemy combatants if you are stealthy, and even tased the **** out of everyone. This is cool, but (minor spoiler ahead) when you aren't a cop anymore the whole arresting people made no sense even from a story standpoint due to the characters motivation. Otherwise this gun play is a played down Battlefield, you won't get heavy machine guns or RPGs. You will get light machine guns, pistols, and shotguns. I will say on normal the combat can be challenging if you aren't paying attention. The enemies don't **** around they are a better shot than me. The single player is about a six hour experience which is pretty typical for these kind of games. I know what some are thinking, "who gets these games for single player?". The multiplayer has many of the same modes as Battlefield 4, but has the newest heist mode. In heist you can earn points by making arrest, kills, stealing, doing the objective or stopping the opposing team from completing theirs. Sadly I didn't find this as fun as traditional Battlefield multiplayer, but that is me who digs typical conquest which this is present. My argument against that would be, if you only like conquest stick with Battlefield 4 because this is no different.

Overall the game is a lot of fun well worth a purchase, but only if you enjoy multiplayer. The single player is a one and done kind of thing. It has little replay value with the single player; so if you're into that I'd say rent it. This is deffiently worth checking out even from the none Battlefield fans because the single player is something new and different. I give this a 4/5 it is a great game that I think people should check out. The single player is better than most cop shows on TV (excluding HBO). I leave with a question. Battlefield has done a Cop story, but when will they go either into the future again or to the past like WW1 or earlier?

Battlefield Hardline is a great game, that takes the series in a different direction that will have you loving or hating the game. Battlefield Vets will be let down by the smaller, more close quarters tailored maps and lack of military vehicles. (After all, this is about cops and robbers)

As I just mentioned, this game is about cops and criminals. For the campaign, you go through a story-driven/TV show style game, that is fairly entertaining and I highly recommend a playthrough.

The multiplayer takes a slightly different approach and focuses on several different team based game types, such as blood money (sort of like capture the flag, but with money you have to load into a duffel bag) heist (which replaces rush, gives you objective and place to loot cash and escape/capture each other.) and hotwire (which gives you a points for stealing and continuously driving the objective cars)

Along with the usual 4 classes, cops and criminals have their own specific weaponry and gear like ziplines and grappling hooks which streamlines the movement on the field. Ultimately, the way the MP is set up it works, but most fans will find it lacking. Personally, it just took me some time getting used to.

    Multiplayer:
Simply put, the multiplayer mechanics were developed by Dice, just like BF4, so its mechanics are similar. However, instead of tanks and warplanes, you are given patrol cars and heavily armoured trucks with mini-guns mounted on top!

    Campaign:
In the campaign, you are Nicholas Mendosa, a good police. Later, a lot happens which makes Mendosa's personality change, which can make for an unexpected ending which some may dislike, as it does not explain what happens to this protagonist. Unlike BF4, the campaign does not prompt you to fight, but rather lets you sneak past the opponents without them seeing you. However, you are able to see them on a mini-map. Funnily enough, you are actually given points for arresting them by sneaking up to them, and are NOT given for shooting them with your gun.

    Conclusion:
The Battlefield series was always considered a modern Warfare FPS. With Hardline, the series takes a turn from that, and rather than being an FPS, gives shooting less importance. The player is encouraged to arrest, take down or simply sneak past an opponent instead. The multiplayer mechanics are similar to those of BF4, but vehicles and some weapons are changed. Overall, this is quite a dramatic change from old Battlefield games, but one which is good enough to keep the relevance of the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You know, I think this game is getting a lot of flak because it wasn't mindless shooting like Call of Duty and it actually made an effort to be good. Battlefield: Hardline was the first modern warfare shooter that I have ever played through to the end. The story was a huge improvement on Battlefield 4 since it actually made sense to me. The shift to cop drama from war shooter was a huge risk, but I think it paid off. The story of Nick Mendoza was compelling and kept me engaged until the end. Difficulty didn't change much other than enemy bullet damage and resistance, but there was a new stealth element to the game. It does the Far Cry thing where you can throw something across the room to distract the guards to tactically take them out, but taking the barge in the front door and shoot everything on two legs wasn't that much harder, so I wasn't that compelled to take the stealthier route. The only reason that I didn't give this game a ten because there were a couple of plot holes one of which was that when you are disbanded from the police, why can you still arrest people? In an even bigger question, why can you arrest private police officers? Those points were not clear to me, but overall, the game was very well made and I look forward to buying more Battlefield games if they are going to be made like this. Expand

I have been a BF vet since BF2 and, personally, this game is fun and fresh. Many people are hating on this game because it is different. Anyone who says that Visceral did not put effort in this game is a whiny little Fanboy/Troll that would rather complain than learn what it takes to make a game like this...which is a lot more then one would think. Also, there are the people who say that this is essentially a DLC of BF4....I must say that they are ignorant yet entitled to their opinion. You play BF4 for the Vehicular Warfare and Hardline is for the more CQ and urban warfare. That's it! You are meant to play both. BF4 is great but I have grown immensely bored with it. This game is just fine and the Net-code works great for me. If not for you then tweak you internet and router settings.....again, I have not had any issues with Net-code on this game. The feel of Hardline is faster, unlike the other BF titles. To be Honest, more players is what this game really needs at the moment. When BF4 came out everyone complained about how BF3 is superior in every way. Now they are doing the same thing again. If you are tired of being overwhelmed by tanks and other vehicles that you cannot damage unless you play as the only two classes you see around in BF4 then, this is for you. Quite simply, this is a game that will get better with age. JUST LIKE BF4. Expand

This installment of Battlefield is great if you ask me, lets be real its only so many storylines worth folks time to put out here on the market for FPS game. And all the other good story lines are currently held with an title associated to them, Hardline is the most complete of the series if I must say. The feel of the game is authentic physics are better than previous titles and maps are more relatable due presenting a time current environment. To me its a waste of time to talk graphics, if any aspect of having these next gen consoles would be to expect great visuals unless you have a X1. I purchased Hardline instead of new Mortal Combat and this is after I purchased the DLC for CODAW that was just released. Basically if your looking to send $60 on a game just be sure it will keep you entertained, as for the other FPS titles currently out Hardline out performs them and I would consider the COD series top of the tier of FPS and Hardline blows it out the water easily on all levels I highly recommend this purchase. Oh I know your like he didn't talk about online play, that's because unless your from the stone age or still using a 2 way pager to text you would know battlefield has one oh the best Multiplayer platforms period and leads in the FPS not opinion just fact. despite the fact that cops and robbers having RPG's is just way over the top the game itself is a lot of fun and has great graphics. Its also way fun to play in a blow everything up kind of way. The only downside I have with this game is the ratio of map size to team size in team deathmatch. its hard to play with strategy when there are 64 players on a tiny map.

U never buy a game and give it a 0. Dont be like cod fanboys who want same sh*t every year. And yes,45% of the ppl who gave it a 0 are cod fanboys. OK u like tanks & jets, but atleast try playing it. AND if u dont want to play it, then dont come around here destroying hardlines image. And its because of u haters, the best of the games also get reduced to 6-6.5 on user score. So here's my opinion on the game:
    PROS
    1. Multiplayer is faster and is more simple.
    2. Maps are less but are wide ranged from short to long.
    3. Hotwire and heist are the best bf modes ever.
    4. Stealth mechanic in single layer is a bit comical and weird, but it allows players to have a different approach to every level.
    5. Progression system in cash is a good way to get good guns early.
    6. Guns feel stable and their recoil is well adjusted

    CONS
    1. Story is same from all crime dramas.
    2. Hotwire's money system is unbalanced as players can get cash easily by just sitting in a car.
    3. No. of guns are less.
    4. Xp boost system is complicated.

To the critics as well, u gave bf hardline 6 or 7 because u disliked its campaign, so bf4 deserves 5-6.5 score on the basis of the campaign, bcoz bfh campaign in MUCH MUCH MUCH better than bf4's then how does it get 8 or 9's? Multiplayer of the two is a debatable topic, but for me, hardline is faster and better. Yes, the cops and robbers theme sux, but it serves to lay a foundation for new modes and exept rescue, all modes are good.
P.S.: Critics and haters should see gamespot's lobby discussion on this game where the guy said that bf hardline's multiplayer is "more fun than bf4 ". Then i again ask gamespot, why bfh a 7 and bf4 a 8?
