For the first time in years I have enjoyed and Assassins Creed game

The Graphics are amazing and it has real world physics

The main character is appealing and interesting

and the combat change is a breath of fresh air

Still dislike everything outside the Animus though

This game is a masterpiece and it brings the AC franchise in a great direction. Don't read the 6/10 and below reviews as it doesn't make sense (I guess a lot of players don't know how to play an open world game properly)

I did the main story and most of the side missions in around 65 hours on hard difficulty. I had a great time. The graphics are wonderful, the mechanics are really well-done (there is a huge improvement for the combat) and the story has great depth.

This game can be compared to the Witcher 3 in term of overall quality but lacks a little something to give it a 10/10 (like I did for TW3).

However, the game still has a few cons:

    1. The economy in the game is not really relevant
    2. The loot system could have been improved
    3. There are a few glitches
    4. Some parts of the open world are not enough developed or used in the main campaign

AC Origins is a 9,3/10 game in my opinion and is massively underrated. I don't see how people prefered Metal Gear Solid V than that ! I strongly recommend this game. To fully take advantage of the game and its mechanics, please use the hard difficulty (especially if you played other AC games before) and do a lot of side missions to be sure your level is a bit over the recommended level.

I also recommend to wait before trying AC Odyssey or Valhalla after finishing this game as you may get burned out. I will wait at least 6 months before starting AC Odyssey. Those are big and amazing games and it requires some rest between them :)

Best AC game since AC2 in my opinion (have not yet played Odyssey though). Some of the voice acting and story writing may be admittedly weak, but that is far outweighed by the game's strong points. Textures, shading and framerate are great and help the feeling of immersion, although the same cannot really be said for the NPC's. Gameplay and combat are vastly improved from Syndicate and Rogue, resulting in far fewer "f--k this game!" moments during combat and parkour. I give the storyline a 6.5/10 after about 20 hours in. Some of the cutscenes are actually pretty good. Heck, i might actually finish this one.

I won't bury the lead, this is most likely my favorite PS4 game. As a guy who has enjoyed all the previous Assassin's Creed games, ancient Egypt as a setting seemed "cool" at first. I had no idea that once immersed in it how big a fan of the setting I would become. The sci-fi nature of AC lends itself quite nicely to time periods where they they literally just invented deities.

AC: Origins is quite a departure from the roots of follow missions and bonus mission objectives but it is the most engrossing RPG I've played since the Fable series. Bayek is underrated as a protagnist of the series, often being overlooked for the likes of Ezio and Edward Kenway. Tropes are tropes because they work. While Bayek's motivation may seem cliche, but it's executed well enough to keep you invested. Also, there are adequate twists and turns to reduce its predictability.

The map is vast and the opportunities for exploration are aplenty. If you have some time to kill, (which, who doesn't these days?) this game will help you wither away the hours. Also, pro-tip, flesh decay/poison essentially breaks the game when it comes to strongholds. You're welcome.

Controls have become more disciplined. More focused with less miss-jumps. All surfaces are pretty much climbable, it gives more sense of freedom, but less sense of realism.

Graphics is absolutely gorgeous. The vibrant orange/red colour of Egypt pops out of your screen. Sunsets and sunrises looks prettier than ever.

Storyline and characters. Well if there is something Ubisoft sucks at it is creating memorable strong protagonists. I find little worth remembering about our hero this time either. Storywriting could also be better. Ubi lacks in both department. But we do as always enjoy real historical relevance as previous games had.

Biggest map so far, As i write this, Odyssey has been released and is way larger, but i find Origins to have a more perfect size map with an acceptable amount of content. To complete everything on this map takes enough time what you would spend on it. Especially for trophy hunters.
What i find a little bit sad is that there are a few regions on this map that are empty dead areas. were no expansion stories was made to kind of make use of these places. So much potential, but Ubisoft swiftly moved on to make Odyssey pretty quick after this game.

Missions are varied in the main storyline, but at times you will find sidequest repetitive and dull as before.

Despite flawed some places it still remains my favourite AC alongside Black Flag. As before with Ubisoft who loves to milk their franchises to death. A great time consumer, but far from being the perfect game

The expansion adventure packs are also pretty cool and takes you further and deeper into fantasy world with some even more breathtaking maps in wonderland.

I didn't expect such quality from Assassin's Creed game. They wanted to create the Witcher game in an Egyptian setting and they did so. In 2023 on PS5 it looks and feels great. Side quests are witcher-level for sure. The main story is probably not that well-written but it's better than in previous parts.

Combat system ... well... it exists. Unity and Syndicate and all previous parts didn't have a combat system - they had a limited amount of scripted animations that were triggered in certain circumstances. But here it's the full-fledged combat system. Of course, it could be better but compared to previous parts it's significant progress.

So actually this game is for those who like Assassin's Creed, Witcher or Ancient Egypt :)

Expand

Its a very 'Ubisoft' game if you know what I mean, and although their cookie-cutter approach garners a lot of hate, I actually quite like a number of their franchises. Big open world - Check. High production values - check. Interesting and cinematic narrative - check. A lot of fairly repetitive side-quests to keep make sure your character is appropriately levelled for the next 'main' mission - check. RPG-lite Character progression - check. I can see why a lot of people are done with them after only playing one but as long as I play some other genres from other developers in between, I'll be happy to play the next AC and Far Cry etc. when they are next released.

The setting is as beautiful as you've read and there is a huge sense of freedom in your movement around the world. There is very little in what is around you that is not interactive. The Witcher influence is certainly here in some elements and I thought it was a great thing. Not quite that level of RPG (Odyssey grows more in that sense) but side stories having a high quality feel like they came out of that playbook.

I do think the Animus stuff is uninteresting and those parts are a drag (just get me back to the world!) but I guess they want to explain the lore and history of the every growing AC story. Ending is slightly flat also...but possibly I'm just nitpicking but it just felt sub par to me.

Overall though this was a very fun experience. Jumped into Odyssey because of Origins and while RPG elements have been ramped up..it's hard to beat the amazing setting that Origins gave us.

You HAVE to do an unreal amount of side missions to be able to progress the main story thanks to the new leveling system. You also have to keep upgrading your weapons. Even if you are a higher level, lower level weapons wont be good enough. I have tried to progress faster but its impossible. No, you are stuck doing the same side mission over and over and over and over and over and over before you can do ONE main quest. This is the MOST GRINDY AC I have ever played and its the biggest turn off. I am at level 28 but I will not be playing the end as I dont feel like spending 20 more hours running the same side quest before I can do the main.

The combat is ok but if you are up against a heavy hitter that is a couple levels higher than you, one or two hits can mean game over. The fighting mechanics are completely different and I am not a big fan.

Overall, the story is pretty captivating and Aya's ship missions are my favorite. But the EXTREME repetitive nature of the mandatory side missions that take ENTIRELY TOO LONG are the biggest turn off. I will not finish the game and I will have to watch gameplay footage of Odyssey before I begin to contemplate purchasing that one as well.
