I cannot understand the bad reviews for this game, it is much better than Origins in almost every aspect. It mixes it up with Ship play and combat, the maps bigger, there's more stuff to do, the levelling system is better, there's a mercenary system, there's more loot. In general it's just a better game than Origins but gets worse reviews.

Now back to business. If I had not been told the name of the game, I would not have guessed that this is an assassin's creed. Where is a cloak and hood? Are we an assassin or some nameless warrior? Many canonical attributes have been removed from the game.

Previously, you could kill any enemy. Now, if the difference is 2-3 levels, then the battle turns into dull rifts. Now you need to farm, farm, farm to get a level and a new weapon. Bravo! And if you are too lazy, then you can buy in-game items for real money. Can you smell it? It smells like free-2-play game for 60$.

Yes naval battles are back and they are super similar to Black Flag's mechanics. Boarding works the same, shooting works the same, although its arrows instead of cannons, and upgrading your ship has a game play loop to it that is really satisfying. You can even customize the look. The biggest change to the Ship mechanic would be the Lieutenants. Lieutenants add perks to the ship like plus damage, or plus armor, etc. They also have uses when boarding a ship. They fight right alongside you. Like gear these Lieutenants range from common to legendary status. Speaking of gear. If you were like me and wished Origins had armor that wasn't just cosmetic, or wanted a change from the status quo upgrading the same armor you have the entire game then Odyssey is your jam. Now armor pieces consist of 5 types. Head, chest, legs, arms, and waist. Each piece has their perks and range from common, to legendary. Weapons are still the same from Origins. Sword, double swords, staffs, maces, axes, spears, etc. However bows have changed and work nothing like origins. Now you only carry one at all times and upgrade perks to make it do stuff like the predator bow did when you followed a shot to the target. Or shoot 4 arrows out of time with the Multiple shot perk. And you can FINALLY craft arrows. That was a much welcome change for me. Listen, Odyssey deserves a chance. If you are one of those people saying "this isn't an Assassin's Creed game!" Ok then it's not now play it it is still good enough to warrant your time and money. The value alone is exemplary. Giving you tons more hours of play than any previous AC games. All I am asking is that you keep an open mind, and before you completely write this game off just try it. You might be pleasantly surprised. My one and only gripe is the heavy push at micro-transactions. You will get to a point where you have to grind for hours to get to the level whatever the Next story mission is at, and it's quite clear what Ubisolft's intentions are. To get you to purchase Helix credits so that you can get XP boosters, better gear, etc. It isn't all bad though. This kinda forced me to explore the world looking for locations to complete, and I ended up getting WAY better gear for doing so. It just throws the pacing off quite heavily. Ok, ok I'm done now. Just try it before ya criticize it. Expand

The game artificially extends its duration by making the player waste time doing secondary missions that are boring and feel more like homework than an actual game. This is of course to encourage microtransactions, as well as to keep players online for longer than they would, if they could just play the history.
NO MORE PAY TO PROGRESS!! Here's my zero.

So Assassin's Creed Odyssey is basically Origins with Greek skin and MUCH, MUCH more micro transactions. Grind is unbearable and you can see right away that it's done on purpose to force you to buy digital money for exp boosters and such. I couldn't believe my eyes... i want my money back for the first time with AC game. Game looks pretty but that's about all positives i can think of.

I'm giving it so low score only because of scandalous content gating in this game: if you don't buy a booster from UBI Store, you have to grind between levels to reach next story quest. And the grind is soooo boring, soooo repetitive that I can't even believe it. WHO at Ubisoft decided to gutter this - quite honestly fine game - only to earn a few more bucks... It's beyond me.

It feels like they knew the game was no good, but had to get it out the door so they released it anyway. My recommendation: RedBox it first. I have played most of the AC games since the original, and while they sometimes seem a bit repetitive, I've like all of the ones I have played. This one might be the series jumping the shark. I simply cannot imagine myself playing another AC after this mess. Expand

I've come to realize that AC fans just don't know what they want and ruin the series with reviews that don't make any sense or accurately depict what is going on. They ruined the series once after unity by complaining about a small portion of graphical errors that easily got patched. So Ubi went another direction by dumbing down graphics and mechanics for a yearly release that almost ended the series. Ubi comes out with a fresh take for a stagnating series and adds some open world RPG elements that were not perfect in origins but I step in the right direction for the future of the game. Biggest issue there was story. Now, Ubi implements some Witched esque elements (which makes sense for a now open world series w RPG elements as the Witcher is a prime example for this genre) and fans lose their minds over aspects of the game like 'grinding" or "not really AC". Well, if the fans would have supported Ubi instead of lost their minds over small issues earlier in the series Ubi would not have had to experience a crisis of identity or format and arrive at this game. This is far from the original gameplay and story that made AC famous but that does not make it a bad game. It plays great, its vast, the story isn't bad (though the voice acting budget might need some love), and its a step in the right direction. Don't let the hate keep you from enjoying an intensive and well developed game that isn't perfect. 9/10 for me. Room to improve. Expand

I don't know where to begin since this game is a complete and utter mess. The entire game is focused on selling microtransactions and every part of gameplay suffers from this because it's all created to make you want to buy them. I've played about 25 hours so-far and never really felt like I was being hindered by the lack of EXP/Drachme boosts, maybe that will feel worse later but we'll see. So-far though the microtransactions feel completely optional.

In Origins I felt like the RPG mechanics were really hamfisted, I didn't like them at all. However in Odyssey they've really refined them to make them feel like a more natural part of the game. The eagle-bearer may well be one of the best written protagonists since Ezio, Kassandra especially is just exceptionally well written. She doesn't fall into any of the tropes that make a female protagonist feel forced, she feels completely human.

The choice system they put in doesn't seem frivolous either, there's one section early in the game that seems inconspicuous but can end up having a big effect on an an entire town. The game is **** chok full of little bits of detail as well, things you probably wouldn't even think of. IE the allies of the people you kill in the streets or whatever can be seen disposing of the dead, a town that can get sick because of your actions goes from healthy to morbidly sick, fatigued and vomiting to dead. It's great.

My only issue is that it doesn't feel like it has much connection to the franchise as a whole, but the game is honestly so much fun I don't really care.

So the only issues I really have is the abundance of microtransactions and the lack of a real connection to the franchise as a whole outside of the meta-story. Other than that, the game is fantastic and frankly all these hyper negative reviews are over-exaggerating like hell.

The easiest way to describe it is the lovechild of Witcher 3 and Shadow of War, skinned in Ancient Greece. Nothing more nothing less.

    The Witcher 3 Parts.
The movement, boats, horses, and even the World map and its icons looks and feels a lot like Witcher 3. which sadly Witcher 3 did successfully back in 2015. The only thing that Odyssey did better on that was having one BIG world map instead of separate loading zones and 2018 visuals to suit.

    The Shadow of War Parts.
It has basically cloned the nemesis system from Shadow of War, without the actual nemesis. You have the strongholds, captains, recruits etc. Some of the character abilities, the teleport spear for example shows even more why its a clone.

    The Good
it has chosen 2 very great games (especially Witcher) to clone, making it a perfect marriage of them. If you like them , you like this. Simple.

    The Neutral
Don't expect an Assassins Creed game....The Stealth gameplay is watered down to favour the greater combat approach. Some may like this, may not, it adds more depth to the game overall. But don't expect to have that classic Stealth experience.

its an RPG. something I personally liked, having more customisation and loot. But it feels shallow at times. Not as in depth as typical RPG'S on the loot front. I feel in the effort to become a fully fledged RPG and balanced the games, Ranged, Stealth and Combat play styles its become a sort of "Jack of all trades, master of none" game.

    The Bad
its lost its uniqueness and originality of being an Assassins Creed game, It should of been it's own standalone Ubisoft IP.

    Overall 7/10
As a video game its great, lots to see and do, and very pretty albeit a bit buggy in places (which could just be launch issues that will be fixed). But sadly it lacks what it was meant to be an assassins creed game.

I've not played as Assassins Creed game for quite a few years but got a free code for this and thought I'd give it a go. I'm quite shocked by how far the series has devolved into a mobile-like microtransaction fest design to wrangle as much money from the player as possible.

In short, the game is packed to the gills with artificial grind. There is a light RPG levelling system which lets the player upgrade their character as they progress through the game. Each game mission has a recommended level the player should be at in order to succeed. And by recommended I mean absolutely necessary as higher level enemies will deal enough damage to kill the player character in one or two hits.

The weird thing is that the XP needed to gain levels accumulates very slowly and you are faced with higher level enemies and missions right from the start. So how are you supposed to level up? Luckily Ubisoft has 'Time Saver' add ons to cut out the grind and increase XP gained, and all you need to do is part with your real world money. In a full priced game.

And why call them 'Time-Savers'? This isn't a job, its an entertainment product, you should want to spend time with it.

Everything in the game seems designed to push the player into buying these XP boosters as the player is constantly presented with high level enemies, missions, equipment and abilities. So playing without the boosters feels like playing a free mobile game with ads enabled.

And after all the bugging the player to spend real money the game itself is fairly unengaging and bland. The majority of missions are; 1 - Go to this place, 2 - Kill these people, 3 - Pick up this item , 4 - Return item to person. If you want to do that for 30 hours then this is the game for you.

The portrayal of ancient Greece is fairly well done (even though most of the research seems to have been watching the movie '300'' several times) and the light RPG elements are a nice addition. If you're interested in the setting then maybe wait to pick it up on sale.

But the game is designed to psychologically batter you into paying real money for a game you've already bought. Even if the game was one of the best ever made you have the right as a consumer to be able to switch off and enjoy the thing you've invested in without fighting the constant encouragement to part with yet more money. Go re-watch Jason and the Argonauts for the millionth time, you'll enjoy it a lot more than this.

Have you ever played a game and you have to question the choices the developers had to make in the development stage to get release product?
The basic are, you're playing a character who is of Spartan decent. The game is centered around the Peloponnesian war; you know! the one with Hoplites, Spartans, Athenians, a few Persians, and a lot of SHIELD wall. The first thing that comes to mind is why the decided to remove shields from the game? The beginning of the game is pretty much the copy of the movie 300; a bunch of naked guys in spears and shields fighting on the Persian. As soon as the cutscene end, you start playing and your shield is gone? Why? why make the setting about Spartan, Shield wall if you remove that option for the player. Isn't that weird?

You may think I'm petty, but I'm not. There is a reason why i bring up the shield issue first. So let start with the review. this game is badly optimized. I have a GTX1070, SSD, i5-8600, and 16 gb Ram. I get about 30-35 FPS (with occasional dips) playing at 1440p. The game has a big big problem with reloading if you die. If my character dies, I basically have to restart the game. I don't understand! It's the same engine with a few tweaks like previous game but it runs much worse

The combat is weird. The previous title Assassin's Creed Origins (hence forth ACO), had shield, 2 handed weapons, dual wield dagger, swords, a few other weapons. Why does this game remove shield? Why does it remove 2 handed items? Why does this game standardize the weapon type and damage? A level 15 axe does the same damage as a lvl 15 dagger, spear, mace? There is no difference in damage, just the look of the combo. The previous game had more depth, even if it was a little. The game has another issues with hot boxes, you will have plenty of moment where you weapon is hitting an enemy, but it's not registering. There is NO block, you are expect to dodge, or parry. For the most part, you will be dodging backwards and doing a few hits; you will repeat this for the majority of the game. Why do you ask? Mostly because the enemy type don't change. When you have a simple combat as this game, you need to introduce enemies that fight differently, that require different approaches. Instead, even on the hardest difficulty, you will be doing the same 3 things in battle

The story is...bland. It feels like the game a distant cousin of fallout series; horrible; bland, no emotions....BORING.

The side contest is good; it's rivaling games like Witcher 3 but still need some work.

Ultimately, the game feels grindy because they added level scaling, then made it very annoying to get certain upgrades without buying (with real money). You will never feel like you're strong because of the enemy leveling scaling. It feels like Ubisoft doesn't know what they want their game to be; they are clearing adding elements from other games, God of War 4, Witcher 3, previous games AC games. By doing this, they are adding element that don't quite work together.

You can't have a game with so many weapon type but refusing you add some kind of niche to each use. They all feel the same. These types of stuff are all around the game; they drag it down. This game had the potential to be

if you're itching to playing a game like this, i recommend playing Witcher 3. If you haven't played it, it's far superior in many ways. Otherwise, buy yourself the ACO or wait for this game to go on scale. At it's current state, it's a bad game, It's very shameful to see reviewers give this game a 9 and not even mention any problems with the game

I'm used to played Assassin's Creed: Origins, i'm surprise for how big the game was, but big doesn't meant good, The story was bad, very unimpressive, villains was totally hollow, unimpressive, enemies base everywhere, bad area level locked etc. i though Origin was bad until i seen Odysseys, completely horrifying game.
Why don't you make new IP instead of slapped AC tittle everywhere, there is no Assassin in main game like The Witcher without Witcher if you wanted to say because it got first civilization factor in game then maybe i will just put the silver sword and medallion in The Witcher game then.
Just i don't really understand what the meaning of there score reviews, good landscape, mainstream RPG, or area level locked ? So if you put in an very unimpressive story but covering it under flowery blanket you suddenly got highs score ?
I'm an old and loyal Assassin's Creed fan, i love the game and the story until i seen this, how long it gonna be until the same peoples who used to defended this game bashing it. Threw away your loyal fanbase, make them started civil war, very "good" direction right.
And where the hell is Sorcerer class ? Wizard ? Magic User ? It suppose to be RPG right ? What an disappointed.
And the characters acting was very cringe by the way i see, try too hard to make thing look lively ? No it not how it work.
AC games was an very old franchise, and the story go literally nowhere, how long you gonna extended it ? After Desmond then Layla then who next ? David ? Jobe ? Lanna ? Tyuuui ? Barri ?
Everybody can have flowery blanket to roll them self in but are they all good peoples ? No.
I doubt all there defenders know what making a good game or even play an game, they are like just buy the most flowery game to test their CPU...
The game was big, yes, but for me it totally empty because very bad and repeated activities, i'm sorry but quality over quantity.
You got an very nice chance to revise the game by Juno plot you kicked it away and replace with this totally bad story.
Sure this game on "good" direction, maybe i will see it later when there is Wizard class available.

So why the two stars? Well, so much of this game is copy and pasted from Origins! It is far too similar, as if they literally reskinned characters, towns and missions from Origins and somehow did a bad job of it. There is not a lot of new content here really.

That been said, I could have understood the lack of new content since this was released a year after Origins, but it seems a year was not enough time to make new content but was ample time to shove in microtransactions within microtransactions! To save you and I time, just look up Jim Sterling's Jimpressions on YouTube for this game. He gives more detail. They have also made the game slower and more grindy to encourage people to PAY MORE MONEY to progress through the game faster.

Absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this tosh that isn't worth £20, never mind the ludicrous prices Ubisoft want you to pay. I've given up hope for this franchise now. It was one step forward and five steps back.

But its a lot like AC Origins but better, thats how it is, every game in the series had little changes to them, every new game in AС serie was a lot like the one before, but a little bit better, some people dislike it and idk why, what do they expect, absolultely different thing from before is immpossible in a serie or a genre, it never is and never will be, thats how it is, every game in a genre is a lot like others with some differences, thats how games works, and AС is no exception, that doesnt mean that is the same thing, its a different one, just a lot like the other. For example meat is meat, but there is a lot of different meat, even different types of cooking, and with each type there is different taste, same here, its a lot like other AC games, a lot like AC Origins, but its different.
So enough about that and lets talk about the battle system, thats absolutly personal preference if its not just actually unplayable for most of people, and its not then its not supposed to count like Optimization for example, there is people who dislike and there is people who like it, doesnt mean its bad, i think its actually amazing, its a lot like AС Unity and AC Origins combined and its really, really hard, at least on the hardest difficulty lvl set, like REALLY hard, not forgiving to anything and anyone, in some occasions maybe to much. The animations looks smooth and good idk what people are whining about. If they are just bad, i guess they blame the animations or anything else =/
What i have to say is the optimisation seems actually worse than the last game, the graphics seems nicer tho, so everything looks better but with less FPS but i guess thats what happens, when there is a giant forest instead of a desert =/
The story seems nice to me, thought not the most interesting (at least to me), but its stil enjoyable and fun, its just not INSANE, but maybe it will be better later, still have a lot to go (only 13 hours played) , so maybe its just the start that doesnt look that impressive. But what is actually worth mentioning and a lot of people can be mad about it: there is NO assassins in this game, its logical, cause the assassins came a few hundred years after this game sets, but i think and i guess we can see the start of the Templars, but again, there is no assassins. Which honestly shoudve been told really clearly, cause i for example started playing this games only because i was playing as a stealthy assassin, but even without them i think the game is just really really good, its been really fun to play, in a lot of ways more than any AC game before, specially because of the fighting system and like i said everything overall seems good to me.
So dont listen to the haters and try it for yourself, because the game is actually good, but you need to remember, that you have to get a really good pc for it, or the game wont be to enjoyable to play, cause the lvl of optimisation is pretty mediocre =/

"The beginning of the end of Assassin's Creed."

That alone should be at the top of every professional review because everything you ever loved has been squeezed out of this series and replaced with a beautiful slog.

Like Origins, both the art style and aesthetic style are quite pretty. Also like Origins, it is the same art style and aesthetic style, which makes Odyssey nothing more than a reskinned game--just more massive. Also, you remember ship fights? You loved ship fights! Well, here, ship fights. It gets old real quick because again...it's the same thing!!

The voice acting is unbelievably bad both in the lines the actors were given and how they are delivered. Combat is a "refined" version of the one in Origins, which means you can cheese almost everything in the game.

The in-game story is pathetic but what's worse: the meta-narrative is effectively dead, and I blame the gaming community at large for killing it. The whole reason this series is a franchise is that meta-narrative, but you mouthbreathers couldn't handle more than one thing at a time (STOP TAKING ME OUT OF THE ANIMUS!!) and this gave Ubisoft all the ammunition to create a stupid chore-grind simulator devoid of any reason to do them.

Now, let's talk about that chore grinding, shall we?

This isn't a "game." Games are supposed to be fun. You're supposed to enjoy doing all the content right? Well, in true Ubisoft fashion, Odyssey is littered with nothing but mindless busy work. "Treasure" is littered across the map which will take you dozens of mindless hours to collect. Does it do anything for you? Not really, the loot is nonsense and vapid. Then there are all the other little things, exploration markers and side quests, so many of these things are here that eventually the rest of the game just fades away. If you were to remove all this padding and just did the main narrative, I will bet you could finish the entire game in under 20 hours.

But then comes the scam that is Ubisoft game design.

See, you can't just go and play through the main story ignoring everything else. No, you will NEVER make the level you need to be to get there because Ubisoft designed this game in such a way that you MUST grind levels out before you can progress. In every game, there is an element of grinding that is to be found. This usually is up to the player to do if they want to be a bit ahead of the curve dealing with the rest of the game. In Odyssey, it's the backbone to SCAMMING THE PLAYER TO BUY HELIX CREDITS!

So what Ubisoft effectively did was scaled back XP accruement (experience points) to an absurd degree. It throttles progression so severely that you are left doing one of two things:

1)Grit your teeth and spend WAY too much time grinding nonsensically.
2)Buy Helix Credits and pay for a PERMANENT 50% XP BOOST.

You read that right: Ubisoft throttled regular XP earnings in an RPG, only to "Sell it back to you" so you could play the game normally. Also, In-game currency is throttled, and you can buy a PERMANENT 50% BOOST to further even out the game. Without buying these "upgrades," you are effectively playing a game with a 50% handicap the developer set as the default. They literally made the game painful to play so you'll ease your pain by giving more money. And let's be clear; you've already given them a minimum of $60 to play it. If you bought any of the higher-end versions, you don't somehow get a normal experience either; you're in the same boat as the person that paid the base price.

This game is a scam plain and simple. This isn't about player choice (always a lie), Ubisoft is banking heavily on the Assassins Creed IP to carry the day over their blatant scamming practices. It is greed, and it is wrong. And I'll be honest with you here: I don't own it, I am playing a borrowed copy (well I was until I couldn't take it anymore, it's so damn dull), but even so; my time with Assassins Creed has come to an end. Frankly, the series was over after AC3.

Do not buy, do not try, this is a scam and stop enabling Ubisoft to make games like this anymore.

Modernday-Story 10/100 - Aweful and except Layla no connecting dots worth mentioning to the other games. Just disappointing
Sidequest-Stories 55/100 - Ok, but do you know the name of certain characters from those quests? It is a bit better than Origins but they are still pretty similar. I guess with better animations they might improve a ton! Furthermore I personally miss characters like Leonardo from AC2. Open World is fine but I think better will be always worse for Assassins Creed. You have multiple settings but no real "I am home" feeling for example and therefore no characters that bind you to a certain region.
    ____
    Combined:

    Immersion 65/100
    Gameplay 87/100
    Story 45/100

Considering that I a great world or gameplay itself is not a reason for me to discover the game, I put double weight on the story.

To put it in a nutshell, my personal rating would be: 61/100 -> 6/10 considering the game as itself. But due to the fact that it is a part of a franchise I combine it with my personal rating and come to a total of 4.5/10.

    Explanation:
LAYLA IS NOT MY ISSUE with the modern day story. You have a ton of new characters without any character development, no real link to William Miles in Origins and just illogical explanations in order to force gameplay mechanics into a franchise that was build up against those.

This game fulfilled all my worst fears and I am so sad for those who worked on the great world that got ruined by the story itself.

From what I can see the combat style is really different and can definitely be frustrating to use, however if you look at the techniques and assassination tools you'll notice they're less refined and more rough around the edges the farther back you go in the games because you're going back in time where the assassins were just developing. Even the difference between AC: Origins and this game is hundreds of years so it's to be expected that the combat style reflects the early development of the techniques and combat. I would say if you can separate the games into individual releases and take a second to think of the reverse progression/development of the assassins as you go through time which is the developers intent then you will enjoy the game. Solid 70+ hours of game play, lots of free downloads from the ubi-store, and a massive world which is very well polished. I have only experienced one crash and considering the entire country of Greece and it's isles are included in the game that's f-ing impressive. Well done Ubisoft. Expand

This is the best Assassin Creed game to date. But on top of that, this game is on the fore front of open world games to come. Picking up some great features from other games and genres. Things like dialog options, consequences, the Mercenary system, enhanced combat system. Excited about the direction of the franchise. One that I have play nearly every game since AC 1.

It is not linear anymore, the world is true open type, you are free to follow any quest line you have, the naval battles we all loved are back, the gear looks amazing, the fact that we are going to almost every single major island and province in Greece just shows how huge the game is. And all have to remember that this and Origins resets the game to much earlier stages than Ezio or Altair. Ofcourse it is not going to be the same as those games/story/tech/gear. I have 20 hours in the game and i have only been in the first 3 areas. The game has easily over 100 play hours if one doesnt rush through the main quest line. The side quests like the Artemis gear quest are awesome and yes at times they do feel a little Witcher3/God of War but so what? I love those games and ACO combines all those awesome elements. As far as open world RPG i will give it a 9 because it borrows many (but only the best) elements from all the games we loved but as an AC game it is a pure 10. I hope AC team has an ace up their sleeve for the next game cause this is pretty awesome. Expand

They covered their butts on that one. This title isn’t as detailed or anywhere near anything to do with Assassins creed beyond the play style and the artifact that is a pyramid and not an apple. Other than that you’re playing a AC version of the Witcher which has been described many times in other reviews. The skill system and quest system are severely lacking and overplayed. They make you now seek out your quest location on the map giving vague details to extend playtime because of you were guided you would finish in no time. Story is ok, cutscenes lack a bit and the graphics aren’t as great as you would expect. I’m playing the PC on dual1080ti at 4K 60FPS and it’s not like you would imagine it should be. The story is totally out of sync with history using women in battle and half of the mercenary that come for you are women. Umm in Ancient Greece and Rome women did not go to battle, they aren’t allowed even in the camp! How they came to this realization is beyond me and it’s quite annoying how bad Ubisoft has gone off the rails with this story. This editions feels like it’s a fast release to boost profit overlaying the Origins engine and tossing together quick missions that aren’t detailed and lackluster unlike Origins which had huge detailed side missions and took you places keeping you into the story. It’s just a grind fest for levels. Kill this animal bring back the pelts, get this herb bring it back to help. The one thing of note they introduced was tha ability to win over the NPC so you can take them to bed and have sex. Both Hetro and Homosexual encounters are featured depending how you wish to play. Beyond that they took the open map, shrunk it down and added tons of mountains to make it feel big but bottom line is it’s small really. Distances compared to origins are 1/4 from place to place versus ACO. So many other touch points I could go into. This game is a letdown as I feared it would be and I wish I wouldn’t ha r paid the $99.99 to play early. Would have waited had it not been overhyped all year. Ubisoft did it again and I predicted they would. They overplayed their hand and totally went off course from the creeds core story. It’s honestky got nothing to do with it. This is a story of a man who was cast out and now you’re on a mission to find out your lineage and get revenge. Beyond that this isn’t your regular Assasisins Creed. My advice, wait for a sale. The added story branching option and the diolog option is a great addition to the Assassin’s Creed Francise since this could make me as player be more involve in the story and the character. Some player might find the giant open world is a not so fitting setting to set an Assassin’s Creed story since it can make the player to be seperated from the story from the sheer ammount of time that the world exploration will take to do. The RPG element is good since it is develop together with AC: Origins. The multiple ending is also a good addition because it make the choice that the player have to be more important than normal story branching element.

The reason i did not give this game a full 10/10 is because althought the modern day story line is connected to the Assassin's Creed Lore the actual animus part of story element althought interesting it is not connected enough even if the is some connection to the Assassin's Creed Lore as a whole.

Overall the experience of playing this new type of Assassin’s Creed is depend on each player but since i’m a fan of both exploration and Assassin’s Creed francise in general so i can make a good judgment that this game is very good for those who already love the Assassin’s Creed Francise and for those who love exploration and branching story element.

Since this is not a true RPG some RPG player might not like it so much and for those who like linear story line more this game also might not be for you.

I've played spider man, and shadow of tomb raider recently - those look poor in the comparison, especially content wise. I wouldn't believe any of those 0 o 1 scores as it's just trolls trying to push their own agenda - the fun the game gives is definitely worth the price. I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE OVERARCHING PLOT. the Animus was a cool sifi twist to the FIRST game, but after that i found that part of the games annoying and world breaking, the boiled unflavored veggies that came with a great steak dinner. i love and applaud the minimal use of it so far in this and origins. people say that Ubisoft sticks to a formula and i can't really argue that , but its a fun loop and it works, i mean how much has Halo really changed in 20 years (it hasn't). Ubisoft has done a great job of taking what works across their games and putting the into play here, for example, i love the option to limit the map notifications and makers, much like in farcry 5, this really adds to the immersion and feeling of exploration. Ultimately, here is the thing, i'm having FUN playing this game. reading through the negative reviews, all i see is people who don't want to like this game. this builds of what was great in Origins, if you enjoyed that game i'd wager you'ed like this one too. I was wrong in most of my assumptions. The game certainly does borrow 1 or 2 things from origins however instead of ruining proven features, it instead builds on them taking the franchise to new heights.

I dont know why people are complaining about the animations, i have found them to be very very fluid and the combat system has been refined. The quests are great and the RPG elements really do not diminish the game in anyway rather they enhance it.

Furthermore the mercenary system draws heavily from the nemesis system from Shadow of War and makes for some truly unique gameplay experiences.

Please do not listen to the naysayers, they are simply angry that the franchise is taking a path different to what it has been stuck on for the past 11 years. The game has progressed and there is nothing stopping you from being an assassin.

However, the hidden blade WILL be making a return (via DLC unfortunately, but hey) so that's enough to satiate me... for hardcore fans however I understand where the complaints come from.

All of that being said, I think rating this game poorly solely due to the aforementioned reasons doesn't give its creators justice. It's truly a sprawling, MASSIVE world filled with caves, quests and all around gorgeous scenery.
The combat is a step up from Origins, and isn't quite as easy as you would think (at least before level 15), with new active skills to make combat interesting and varied as well as smarter AI.
The soundtrack is also one of my favorites to come out of the series, giving me very strong "The Witcher" vibes (which is a good thing).

If you're a fan of masterfully crafted open world RPG's then this game is a MUST BUY. It truly has it all, bringing the best of all games as well as introducing far more player impact and customization. The only reason I have to dock it a point is because I can't consciously give it a ten when it is a single player game with microtransactions.
