The overall score for this game is criminally low. This was right there for game of the year and I wouldn't be upset if it was especially with all the DLC.

I always loved RPG games like Gothic, Oblivion etc. and this, this is the top, really the best RPG I have ever played... The world, the story, oh man the landscapes and the nature, everything is 10/10.

There are some minor inconveniences in the movement sometimes, but that is nothing, when compared to the list of all the things this game brings. Really recommend this game to someone

Thanks to the PS5 patch the overall visual fidelity was greatly enhanced and 60 fps gameplay is just a pleasure. This open world action rpg shouldn’t missed by anyone.

Hint for new players: I strongly recommend to play as Kassandra.

The score does not reflect this game's true value. I avoided buying this game just like with the AC Origins because of how low it has scored and I am ashamed that I misjudged AC Odyssey like that. I wish I played it sooner to experience its fun gameplay and beautiful settings. Maybe the most mesmerizing open world ever existed!!

    Takeaways
Pros: lots to explore, relationships to have, tons of equipment/quest options, gorgeous scenery, lots of Greek lore, amazing and believable protagonist.
Cons: equipment menu music gets old kinda quick, the animus-story line is pretty dumb but doesn't take up much time.

Graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, exploration, the world, the story! A world to explore outside and inside the sea! Everything is so full and densely packed! Fun and varied gameplay, the abilities really come into play and they are fun to use, I always recommend switching between them and not using just the best/meta ones.

Combat may feel floaty at first, but it's because of the weapons used. I also used swords and spears, until I realized they have to feel light. When switching to heavier weapons, it became more satisfying.

Naval battles are super fun, yet lack realism.

For people complaining about the lack of guaranteed assassination, there's a skill which you unlock later and which gives you direct asssassination for 90% of the enemies.

I have never been underleveled. If you explore the beautiful world and do all the side quests (I mean narrative ones, not the radiant ones) you won't have any problems.

The world is absolutely gorgeous. My only complaint is that, while it feels alive, you can't interact much with it. Social stealth, interactive objects, animals petting, a mini-game etc. would've been amazing.

I loved Kassandra as a protagonist. She's great IMO, top4 AC protagonists, and since you get to make the decisions, it adds more depth. Also, I'll get this straight: her design is great, she's beautiful (and I think we should appreciate this since attractive females are becoming more and more rare in tripleA western RPGs). Still, there is one problem: the lack of character development, or very few of it.

Graphics and artstyle, the game does both well.

Odyssey builds and expands upon Origins and it's truly better game in any possible way. World is huge, detailed and beautiful. Gameplay very fun and stories that are told in the game with so many side quests are quite interesting. Some of the side quests remind of Witcher 3, although not at that level of quality. Malaka!! What an odyssey! It took me 105hrs to complete this journey on Hard difficulty.

With Ubisoft games, expect a lot of repetition in gameplay, systems and mission structure. What sold me is the setting. I was absolutely into Greek mythology as a kid in the 90s and have watched so many Greek movies growing up (Jason and the Argonauts, Hercules, Xena, Troy, 300, stop-motion skeletons). AC:Odyssey was like a childhood dream come to life! I was so enthralled by the sights and sounds, the whole Greek world, the legendary creatures, the historical figures, the monuments, everything! Also, Greece is such a wonderful and beautiful world to explore for me as I love the hills, mountains, ocean, beaches and green locations.

The last AC I played, Origins, was bland to me cos I was never a fan or Egyptian mythology and setting. So the constant sand and desert areas were very dull and uninteresting for me, dampening my motivation to explore. Ended up rushing through the main story in about 30hrs.

Odyssey on the other hand was a journey I enjoyed from start to end. The main story is also very well developed and engaging. I played as Kassandra and she is a much much better protagonist than Bayek. I loved all the side characters and some side missions made me genuinely laugh out loud.

The RPG mechanics introduced are much better here than in Origins, although I hope it can be more like Skyrim or Witcher levels of detail in the future. I liked the dialogue choices and consequences introduced, but it could be developed even deeper.

I loved the legendary weapons and armor sets, with all the unique skills that come with it. It's definitely a fun game to play.

I took one point off for not having a deep lore/history system. I would like to have a Codex entry giving detailed history of Greece's locations, characters, weapons, culture, people, etc. That would have helped players who enjoy reading codex entries more appreciation for the main plot and the world in general, like in Witcher, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Dragon Age. Also, I thought there would be a Discovery Tour like in Origins but to my disappointment, there isn't.

Overall, I absolutely loved Odyssey. Brilliant game by Ubisoft and that was something I did not expect. Ubisoft games, I now realize, are about the world setting. If you're into it, you'll definitely have a blast. So it was for me in Wildlands ( loved Netflix's Narcos) and Odyssey (loved Greek mythology) and AC2 (loved Gladiator, HBO's Rome).

Absolutely play this if you're a fan of Greek culture.

When I saw the game is set in ancient Greece, I knew I have to buy it, been waiting for a game like that very long. There were a lot of disscusions if this is still an AC game. Obviously its not but I do not understand, how this is a bad thing? We had this year a new God of War game, where you could ask the same question, was this still the GoW we knew, who cares, it was so good it probably will become GOTY.

While Odyssey is not a candidate for GOTY, it is still a damn fine game. Clearly the devs were inspired by The Witcher 3 and its approach for different options during conversations where depending on your choice, quests will play very different. There is a heavy focus on RPG mechanics, you'll travel a lot in beautiful Greece, fight many enemies, trade your items and collect epic or legendary gear while gaining XP and built your skill tree. You can focus on becoming an archer, warrior or assassin, or you'll chose the best of three worlds, just like me.

You will travel a lot with your ship and let me say one thing: wow... the water looks gorgeous. While traveling, your crew will always sing a nice Greek shanty. The controls feel great altough its definitely far away from beeing a ship simulator. The battles are epic, I love how everyone is shouting and before entering a ship, your crew is stamping on the ground and they bash their spears against their shields. If there is a storm at night, the atmosphere is even more tense!

The story keeps you hooked as, typical for these times, there is a lot going on about revenge and betrayal. You can either choose to play as a male of female though Alexios looks kinda boring compared to Cassandra. He lacks the charisma that Cassandra has.

Along the story you'll discover new features of the game such as the bountyhunters which works kinda like the wanted level in GTA. If you'll mess around to much (murdering, stealing... ) they will search for you which adds this nice dynamic gameplay mechanic where you're in the middle of a battle when suddenly one or more bountyhunter appear.

Also, since this plays during the war between Athen and Sparta, you'll join one side during these big battles where you slaughter the enemies army.

The microtransactions are optional, you'll never need them if you keep gaining XP trough sidequests.

Typical for a Ubisoft game like that, there can be bugs here and there like strange behaving NPCs/ enemies and glitches with the animations, which also can look a little bit awkward during cutscenes.

Naturaly this game can feel "grindy" as other open world games by Ubisoft did. But this feeling fades if you immerse yourself in the gorgeous landscape of Greece alongside a very nice soundtrack.

Its sad to see how people here judge this game without even playing it. Just because there are microtransactions which nobody really needs to buy. Also I've seen people mentioning "SJW".... seriously? Those people cant be older than 12....

I like it. Ancient Greece is awesome. Only thing I really wish technically would be great if the game would run 60fps, but sure it looks great and there are already some drops in fps every now and then. The story isn’t great, but good enough for me, since other aspects of the game make up for it

I've played all AC games and a big fan of the series. I also liked AC Origins a lot.

So when I first started ACOdyssey, I hated the game. Clunky parkour, bad combat, messy stealth, all of which appeared to be a substantial downgrade from ACOrigins. But after about 50+hours spent, I've changed my mind quite a lot. The game grows on you. Parkour, combat and stealth are still not very good I think, but the game makes up for it by having a great story and good character-building.

The game doesn't require microtransactions at all. I don't understand where this criticism comes from. You don't have to pay anything at all to level up or buy resources. The game provides them all, if you pace yourself and don't rush through the game. It is called ODYSSEY; it is supposed to be a very long and very big adventure. The best way to play this is not to grind, or rush, but maybe play a little bit (1-2 quests per day) everyday for weeks, or months. Grinding through will not be enjoyable, so think of this like a long novel to be read a little bit everyday and attain long-term immersion in the story. I don't have evidence on this, but I think the game is programmed to stop giving you interesting side quests after a certain amount of daily play. This is probably added as a hidden feature to prevent people from over-playing daily; but as I said, this is just a feeling and I don't have evidence on this.

I still dislike the game's combat, especially given how the series got it very right with ACBlackFlag. Why mess it up when you had near-ideal combat mechanics? Also, AC series is all about parkour and stealth. Both are sub-par in the game. This is probably because the map is so large that the only way to provide a uniform experience was to dumb down combat, parkour and stealth.

Another accurate criticism is the fact that the game contains very small portion of AC features. There is quite minimal linkage to the wider AC story line and the game doesn't feel like an AC game. Rather, this is the story of a dude and dudette having a fun adventure in the Greek islands with very little relevance to AC as a whole.

Overall, I think the game is good, deserves the time you invest in it and great holiday-season game to get lost in. Big world, lots to do and overall fun if you pace yourself and not rush through a fun experience.

By the inspiration and historical analysis deciphered by Ancient Greece, AC Odyssey is beautiful, light, and wonderful to roam around and look at to see what Ubisoft's reinvention of Ancient Greece has to offer for us AC fans. The player has the choice to choose Alexios or Kassandra, and both characters are enjoyable to play as. To be honest, Kassandra is probably the best choice as she reminded me so much as Ezio Auditore from AC2 and the voice capture performance by the actress is top notch right there. In terms of story, it is about as generic as any other AC game has to offer in terms of delivering a decent narrative, but the 60+ hour main story is bloated and somewhat forgettable which frustrates most players. Aside from that, the open world that AC Odyssey offers is huge filled with interesting background perspectives and detail that makes you want to stay and learn more about Ancient Greece and it is historical perfection. Lastly, the combat and RPG mechanics has been vastly improved which is an absolute delight if you want more action and choices for you to do while spending time in Ancient Greece. AC Odyssey might not be an Assassin's Creed game we all know and love, but the Spartan influence is so strong that this game will make the player feel like a Spartan badass as there are things to see and do in Ancient Greece thanks to its influence that impacted our society of tomorrow. Kassandra is a real badass, and spending the 100+ hours diving into shipwrecks, fighting epic battles, assassinating cult leaders and accidentally leaping off of tall cliffs on my trusty steed (sorry Phobos) was a memorable experience that surpassed nearly all of the other AC games to date (ACII still holds out as a favourite).

If you love Greek mythology, sprawling open world adventures with hundreds of quests available, weapons and armour to collect and horses which come back from the dead after a long fall then I would definitely recommend Odyssey.

I honestly cannot believe it wasn't talked about more. People complain a lot about live service games and their value but when a game does it objectively better than any game ever before, no one even bats an eye at it. COMBAT AND STEALTH
It has six different weapons and a bow. In the addition, also ship combat is good (but Black Flag is better of course). the enemies can be found some easy and some hard. Then, it cannot assassin everyone completely but it'll takes a lot of damage, thanks to the ability is helpful. Unfortunately, parkour is pretty easy for old AC gamers.

    GRAPHIC AND MAPS
The graphic is truly beautiful, thanks to Greek accident maps. In the addition, the maps is pretty bigger than I thought. I have spent 50 hours for beating about 50% of full completion. Have some bugs, of course for Ubisoft.

    VERDICT
It's worth to explore and combat. At the main point, if you think The Witcher 3 is still the best. I suggest you shouldn't have it.

    1) Because people hate microtransactions, but they are absolutely not required. Not at all. I just play this game, enjoy it and have never visited a shop. Actually, I don't know what is inside it. because I completely don't feel like I need it.

Because usually, people visit a shop to have some advantage in an online game. Common, people, is it online game? Why do you rush this game and try to reach level 50 faster? What's a point?

    2) People don't like that it looks same as Origin. Yes, true, it's more or less same. It's not same battle system, and I like battles here more, than before. First, now enemies attack you simultaniously. Second, we have "assasins", which try to kill you ( up to 5 simultaniously). Third, we have "area battle" now.

    3) People paid for some gold or like this package and don't like it. Well, it was described, what is inside. So just read and check before buy it.

    4) People compare this game with "old assasin". Well, I am not fan of old assasin. So if you're fan of them, and don't like Origin - don't try this too. But for me it was new game, and I like it.

So, finally, it's good game. with interesting battle system, interesting plot. Of course, it's not excellent, don't expect brillian RPG, brilliant and completely new story. No, but it's good enough. So, finally, my mark is 8.5 (again, after 20 hours, on 20 level).

Even the difference between AC: Origins and this game is hundreds of years so it's to be expected that the combat style reflects the early development of the techniques and combat. I would say if you can separate the games into individual releases and take a second to think of the reverse progression/development of the assassins as you go through time which is the developers intent then you will enjoy the game. Solid 70+ hours of game play, lots of free downloads from the ubi-store, and a massive world which is very well polished. Of course, there is artistic liberty, like flaming swords, but there are a lot of details that are correct when it comes to the columns, the buildings, the weapons. Also the NPCs whose behaviour is in line with their actual behaviour (or attributed behaviour).

The game itself is a bit lengthy at times but I didn't have any issues in general with keeping up level by doing the entertaining side quests. Each location that I visited was full of new and nice surprises. Highlights were ancient Athens, the Minoan palaces, the rugged landscape around Sparta.

I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE OVERARCHING PLOT. the Animus was a cool sifi twist to the FIRST game, but after that i found that part of the games annoying and world breaking, the boiled unflavored veggies that came with a great steak dinner. i love and applaud the minimal use of it so far in this and origins. people say that Ubisoft sticks to a formula and i can't really argue that , but its a fun loop and it works, i mean how much has Halo really changed in 20 years (it hasn't). Ubisoft has done a great job of taking what works across their games and putting the into play here, for example, i love the option to limit the map notifications and makers, much like in farcry 5, this really adds to the immersion and feeling of exploration. There is a lot to like about this game and there are some things to dislike about it. I liked about 90% of what the game had to offer. To name a few things such as the mythical beats, battling Medusa (the hardest boss battle I came across in the game), conquest battles, the addition of the spartan kick was great especially when you upgrade it, and taking down the cult members (I completed the main story mission with about 13 or so cult members left and I could not end the game without taking down the cult members) were some things I enjoyed amongst other things. However, for the 10% here is what I did not like:
    1) There was a lot of delayed textures as I am sure many players have experienced this.
    2) You have several abilities to choose from, but you can only choose 4 warrior/assassin abilities and 4 hunter abilities. To me this was kind of a disappointment as you are limited on what you can choose.
    3) Enemy AI is dumb.
    4) The game does get repetitive after awhile after doing countless side quests, taking down forts, camps, caves, ships, etc.

Overall, I was really satisfied with Odyssey and didn't think it would be this good due to it releasing a year after Origins as I thought they would have rushed it. The detailed story was hard for me to keep track of because they mention a lot of people with fancy names and I'm like who is that again and what did they do? With all of this being said I'm looking forward to see what the next Assassin's Creed game will bring us.

I finished the main story a couple of days ago, also finished the Cult line, the Mythical Creatures and still can't stop playing. Please, give this game a chance – give it a few hours to understand its mechanic, it is somewhat repetitive, but which game truly isn't after some time? Thank you Ubisoft! Expand

While most Assassin's Creed games get forgotten, Odyssey will be remembered as one of the best in the series. With engaging protagonists, compelling side characters and a complex but rewarding combat system, fans of the franchise and newcomers alike will really enjoy this installment in the Assassin's Creed series. Game is amazing, it's big and has many interesting activities. Music is wonderful. Story is great and I will remember it for a long time. I just disappointed that story in present days has been removed and we have only 5 minutes of gameplay in present. It's really bad. Desmond was very interesting guy. I want to rate this game as a game on its own, independently from its franchise. As someone who has played every Assassin's Creed game from start to finish, it was certainly disappointing to find that Ubisoft all but abandoned the themes introduced in the earlier titles. However, the hidden blade WILL be making a return (via DLC unfortunately, but hey) so that's enough to satiate me... for hardcore fans however I understand where the complaints come from.

All of that being said, I think rating this game poorly solely due to the aforementioned reasons doesn't give its creators justice. It's truly a sprawling, MASSIVE world filled with caves, quests and all around gorgeous scenery.
The combat is a step up from Origins, and isn't quite as easy as you would think (at least before level 15), with new active skills to make combat interesting and varied as well as smarter AI.
The soundtrack is also one of my favorites to come out of the series, giving me very strong "The Witcher" vibes (which is a good thing).

If you're a fan of masterfully crafted open world RPG's then this game is a MUST BUY. It truly has it all, bringing the best of all games as well as introducing far more player impact and customization. The only reason I have to dock it a point is because I can't consciously give it a ten when it is a single player game with microtransactions. While they don't intrude on the game, I think there is a place for them and it isn't in this genre.

    Cop it. 9/10

I cared more for these characters and the world than I ever did in previous Assassin’s Creed games, and I think that’s part of why this reboot is so successful. Playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey left me feeling valiant and triumphant as I worked my way up the cultist food chain, and and I was always excited to see what Kassandra was off to discover next.

If someone had told me couple of years ago that Assassin’s Creed would become a full-fledged action RPG that would not look out of place on a shelf next to The Witcher 3, I would have snickered. But here I am, over 80 hours into Odyssey and still unable to believe that really happened. [12/2018, p.44]

It also commits a few of the same sins: in particular, the deluge of gar drops feels vaguely insulting, conditioning the player to lust after items exclusive to the in-game store. It's lifted, however, by the relative wit and intelligence of its quest design, and the delicate notes of uncertainty and curiosity introduced by Exploration mode. [Christmas 2018, p.108]
