Now ten years old, it's easy to see why the game was considered a critical success; it's a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling with some innovative features. Now ten years old, it's easy to see why the game was considered a critical success; it's a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling with some innovative features. But unlike its predecessors, MGS IV is more movie than video game and that's where some of its flaws lie. While this concluding chapter follows the formula established by MGS 1, it also contains even longer cutscenes and some underwhelming sections. The game is also more comparable to Gears of War than Splinter Cell due to its third-person shooter mechanics. Stealth is more of an option since there is an overabundance of firearms, attachments and ammunition.

    Like Grand Theft Auto IV (also released in 2008), this entry was hailed by critics as being the franchise's best installment on its launch day. While that is certainly arguable, there's no denying that MGS IV took advantage of the PS3's technology. This entry is one of the most impressive looking games on the PS3. It's also loaded with all the nutty features, hidden Easter eggs and eccentric bad guys the series is well known for. Of course, it's not for everyone. But if you're a die-hard MGS fan, you will love it despite all its imperfections. Thought I never played the multiplayer and have issues with the campaign, I would still give this a 9.3 out of 10.    … Expand

    Kojima is Kojima, with his angles, direction, music and game trifles, I went through it with joy, although the game is difficult for me... the plot is super fantastic and, in my opinion, with a mixture of nonsense (it's still Kojima), from the minuses it is optimization games.. and it is not clear what to do in a fight with Vamp)

    This game is wacky, but in all the right ways. Good gameplay, but a bit stiff. Solid story and voice acting. Decent graphics. 100% Kojima. A must play on the PS3.

Seeming Snake a young here in the first Metal Gear to MGS4 in a short amount of time. A man who was created to inherit big boss legacy as the perfect son to a man who is going to be a weapon if he fails.     I love everything in this game, Hideo Kojima really has made it perfect! But what made me really love this game is the ending, it was perfect to conclude Solid Snake's story along with Big Boss, where they finally meet!

    A wonderful experience, this is the perfect ending for solid snake, and the franchise overall, the game play feels like a evolved-new generation metal gear, the story is nostalgic and incredible, the characters conflicts are fantastic, and I also the story arc for snake, the fact that he is dying is sad, and is a nice touch, 10/10

I played it from 2008 to this year MGS 4 without exaggeration.. so I keep to this day the Blistine 3.. Just to play MGs4 I was surprised by Konami She succeeded with mgs 4, 3, 2. But I lost and flipped with mgs5! The game will not be at a high level… Expand

    Love it or hate it Metal Gear Solid 4 is objectively one of the best games on the 7th Generation of Consoles. It's ashame the only way you can play it is on the Playstation 3 I hope somehow they re release it on the PS5 and port it to PC but I doubt they will. Alot of cinematics, maybe too many but a great story and improved gameplay.

    Quite a deep and lovely game. The more you play the other games before in the series the more references and final ties you see it make in this game. This was supposed to be the last Metal Gear Hideo made and it pulled all the correct stops. Unfortunately the community attacked him to make more and we got Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain in which Hideo’s story was far and beyond whatQuite a deep and lovely game. The more you play the other games before in the series the more references and final ties you see it make in this game. This was supposed to be the last Metal Gear Hideo made and it pulled all the correct stops. Through countless development troubles (and even death threats) they managed to create one of the most beautiful send-offs to such a legendary character. There may have been some rough points gameplay-wise or narrative-wise, but when looked at as a whole, this game is a product of its time... and a legendary one at that. It serves as a reminder of simpler times in the gaming industry, when creativity could still shine through. Where it wasn't about blindly following trends, but sticking to your vision and trusting that the team you're in will make something worthwhile. Nostalgia is certainly playing a significant role here, but even as a stand-alone title, MGS 4 is a remarkable example of unyielding ambition that resulted in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.     "Что же мы сделали с миром" , "Это наша вина, наш долг исправить". И так всю игру. А я хз че они там натворили и почему считают себя монстрами . :-) И первая игра Кодзимы кстати. А субъективно - первая игра почти за год которую я прошел до конца. Все остальное заброшено, хоть и даже больше нравились (Ларка, Горизонт, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Halo, например).

    Где-то на форуме прочитал "Spec Ops: The Line единственный шутер. который мне зашел." Я тоже так считал. Но теперь MGS4 можно поставить рядом. Добротная история.    … Expand

Von der tatsächlichen Spielzeit des Games, etwa 20h bei einem ausgedehnten Durchgang, sitzt man so gefühlt mehr als die Hälfte der Zeit einfach da und schautMetal Gear Solid 4 ist gewissermaßen schon eine Art Zumutung. Denn es gibt vermutlich kein anderes Spiel mit solch ausladenden Cut Scenes und Zwischensequenzen. Diese können gerne einmal 30 bis 45 Minuten einfach am Stück laufen.     Im Gegensatz zu einem "Snake Eater" bietet MGS4 so auch nur vereinzelt die typischen Schleichpassagen, die, wenn sie denn stattfinden, sich allerdings hervorragend spielen. Dominanter sind beim eigentlichen "Abschlusstitel" der Serie aber die gescripteten Action Passagen und eben die fulminanten Bossbattles, die teils in riesigen Arealen ausgetragen werden und mitunter sehr langwierig und tricky ausfallen können. Für Fans der Serie ist "Guns of the Patriots" so sicherlich ein Fest, gespickt mit verrückten Kojima Ideen und einem überbordenden Metal Gear Pathos, dass es nur so eine Freude ist. Wer Metal Gear jedoch noch nicht kennt, sollte sich vielleicht erst einmal an der HD Collection der Klassiker versuchen. Von 0 auf 100 ist das Metal Gear Universum nämlich kaum zu bewältigen. Zumindest ein "Sons of Liberty" und "Snake Eater" sind als Prolog eigentlich Pflichtprogramm, möchte man an "Guns of the Patriots" letztlich seine Freude haben.    … Expand

    Storywise it was good, I enjoyed understanding BB history and the characters are fun. The story like some others MGS is about the future wars and soldiers. It will    Revisited this game in 2022.     Like other MGS there are two ways to play MGS , the pro sneaking stealth way and the casual friendly just kill everything with your guns, Drebin make the casual gameplay more accessible.

    I can say that I liked the game more before shadowmosses. Once I reached Shadowmoses it felt like the devs had to rush everything and it lost little of its fun.

    Metal Gear Solid 4 is a fantastic experience that combines the medium of game and film in a never before seen way. It tops its predecessors in audio/visual quality as well as in story telling and dialogue, making the whole experience not only more intense and captivating, but also more accessible to a broader audience. It is impossible to compare Metal Gear Solid 4 to any game out to date, and it will surely take a long, long time until anything as good as this comes along again - if it ever happens.

    Even more so than the previous Metal Gear Solid games, this last installment rises above its medium, and becomes more than just a game. People have debated over the question whether games can be considered as "art", and while this is all in the eye of the beholder, Metal Gear Solid 4 comes as close to art as any game before. In my view, Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't just art, but it's also one of the finest pieces of art I've ever encountered. It's a masterpiece, a complex and layered experience that will move you on so many levels, in so many ways, and even manages to be unique, new and refreshing. And isn't that what art is all about?

    Metal Gear Solid 4 has its minor issues, and surely not everyone will be happy with the directions the story takes. But it is impossible to discard all the fantastic moments this game has to offer because of these (minor) issues.

    Metal Gear Solid 4 will forever mark gaming history. It's sad to see the series come to an end, but what an end it is. Thank you mister Kojima, for more than twenty years of incredible and groundbreaking entertainment.    … Expand

    This game had the whole weight of the world on it's shoulders and still proceeded to make Metal Gear Solid Online as a free game mode (at the time). There is nothing to say about 10/10 games. Go in knowing as little as possible about this game and have the time of your life!

When people say the cutscenes are long, it's not just the actual time it takes, it's the fact that between the stilted and poorly translated dialogue and the repeated, drawn-out exposition I can't even tell you how many times I fell asleep during a cutscene and had to restart it. I do really like a good story in video games, but everything here just feels like a crap anime.

    There is a good story here (and the nostalgia of act 4 is a high point) but it's drawn and spread out for the sake of being artsy. And we've got a healthy dose of toilet humor and female characters designed by 13 year olds.

    It should also be mentioned that the gameplay sections (less than half the runtime of the game) are straight out of 1998. You still get that weird hunched shoulders running and you have to stop dead to hit the crouch button, otherwise you'll dive. But don't worry so much about that-you're only running from cutscene to another cutscene anyway.

    So I think the real questions you need to ask before diving in are: Did you want Solid Snake to be older with a dad mustache? Do you want a 20 minute phone call explanation of each weirdly buxom boss AFTER you kill them? Do you want someone to spell out for you why war is bad over and over? Are you in to the type of story where you might spend several minutes watching a little girl cook eggs? What about the type of story that might culminate in a slap fight between two geriatrics? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", then go for it.    … Expand

    Llegue 13 años tarde pero aún así quiero opinar sobre dicho juego, porque la verdad merece la pena. el trabajo esta muy pulido mas allá de que sea un juego de una consola salida en el año 2006.
    La historia es asombrosa, obviamente se salio de eje debido a que hay cosas que no son partes del entorno metal gear, pero aún mantiene el espíritu que se merece, la verdad es uno de los mejores    Llegue 13 años tarde pero aún así quiero opinar sobre dicho juego, porque la verdad merece la pena. el trabajo esta muy pulido mas allá de que sea un juego de una consola salida en el año 2006.
    La historia es asombrosa, obviamente se salio de eje debido a que hay cosas que no son partes del entorno metal gear, pero aún mantiene el espíritu que se merece, la verdad es uno de los mejores juegos que saco kojima tanto su historia como jugabilidad. muy buen trabajo.

    Story wise, it tries to *finish* the franchise's story (even though KONAMI didn't want the game to end at the time) which ends up as a mashup of ideas and even more plot holes.

    If you are a fan of The Metal Gear Solid franchise you know what I mean when I say that most games directed by Hideo Kojima feels like an interactive movie and this one is not the exception.
    The graphics were at the top the gaming industry when this game came out and I can say it's still better…

    Game play info says not to kill either side and to sneak and hide, yet it unbelievable gives you a ton of weapons wickedly cool i didn't know what to do with it, that's not good it's sucks. I didn't even want to play the game a second time just for that because of those damn long cutscenes.

    I’ve recently finished this game and it’s nothing but unforgettable and extraordinary. It’s an emotional conclusion to the Metal Gear saga which holds a special place in my heart and it’s simply amazing.

    My favourite game. Perfect blend of story telling and game play. With each play through I discovered hidden features I had previously missed. Even the cut scenes are interactive. Definitely a “guys” game, female players might be offended lol.

    The only part of this game that I legitimately enjoyed was Shadow Moses. It was the only fan service moment I enjoyed and it was honestly just really cool to see that iconic area in HD. It's probably the only part of the game I think I would ever want to revisit. Most of the game is inferior stealth, easy boss battles and incredibly annoying on rail shooting sections. Not to mention more forced combat segments than any Metal Gear game before it. Basically, everything I don't like about the Metal Gear series is brought to the forefront here.

    At least I'll always have the first 3.

    Kojima did it again! History showed again and again, that this stealth series is more than just gaming. It´s an aesthetic and philosophical experience. Just as Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots. This game is so well narrated and designed, that you sometimes loose touch weather it´s a game or a thrilling movie. One of the best games for the PlayStation 3!

    Excellent game that follows the same pattern of the previous metal gear, only improved. Without adding, it is the best ending to give a saga as long and emotional as this one is.

    Amazing conclusion to the series. I didn't mind the cutscenes one bit as it offered balanced segments of great gameplay and deep story. I think the game looked stunning for its time and it's still one of the best spectacles to behold in gaming. This IS my favorite MGS game.

    Sons of Liberty never seems to have a dull moment when it comes to it's story, or it's gameplay. It's truly worth having a PS3 for. It's real shame it's not on other platforms. It simply is a must own for any fan of the series.

And MGS 4 comes to close the curtains and deliver one of the most powerful and emotional stories in the series.

    The gameplay was probably the most polished, deep, and interesting I've ever played apart from maybe Dark Souls and Bloodborne. I loved the OctoCamo and all the options you could use to pass through your enemies unnoticed. This game also makes you think about your enemies, as the story doesn't imply they are bad, giving you the choice to not kill them like in the previous entries. But that's completely optional, although if you decide to go for the "Rambo" and kill everyone, your character feels the consequences and that was a very smart and cool detail. There are so many secrets to be found and different ways to play the game. It's incredible.

    I always find it hard to decide which one I love the most: MGS 3 or 4. I will have to replay this game in the future and decide once and for all.    … Expand

    Amazing game, a must buy for a Metal Gear fan.
    The gameplay is probably tied with Snake Eater and the gameplay in that game was a 10/10.
    The great animations, CQC, the stuff you could mess around with and soo much more.
    The story has it's flaws but it's worth the wait for the fantastic and emotional moments.

    Wow this game has a lot of cutscenes. The stealth in this game is very fun. Just like the other MGS games, this one is no different. The amount of references to the first game was kind of jarring, otherwise, the boss fights in this game are good as well. The story is kind of a mixed bag, combined with the other MGS games, the story is very confusing.

    This same is nothing short of a masterpiece. The gameplay is without equal, surpasses only by its successor, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The narrative and characters are perfectly crafted, with a mature and emotional story that will have you constantly on the edge of your seat.

Il a fallu que je recharge la manette DS3 avec le câble (batterie intégrée, hélas) le câble trop petit qui m'oblige à jouer à un mètre de la télé à peine...

    Mais bon, le merdier charge et souffle déjà pas mal... mais ça va    J'ai réveillé la PS3, j'ai soufflé dessus, ç'a a fait plein de poussière partout, j'ai dû ouvrir la fenêtre pendant 5 mn... puis j'ai passé un coup d'aspi dessus.     Mais bon, le merdier charge et souffle déjà pas mal... mais ça va encore, surtout avec le casque sur la tête. Je regarde la PS3 slim (la première slim) et me dis qu'elle est à peine plus petite que la grosse fat d'avant et qu'elle fait encore beaucoup de bruit : putain mais c'est gravé à combien ce machin ? comme une PS1 overclockée, je suppose ! ou un Amstrad.

    Mais bon, elle marche encore, le temps de re-"tester" le MGS...4, "les flingues des patriotes"... tu parles d'un titre...! et ça se déroule comme il y a plusieurs années, c'est-à-dire si j'en crois ma sauvegarde... 2014, rien que ça ! putain. Et donc, je mets fin au suspense (insoutenable) : MGS4, c'est de la merde. C'est toujours de la merde, oui, oui, je vous assure. Le temps ne change rien à l'affaire.

    Et pourtant pour un jeu sorti en 2008 (!) ça reste étonnamment beau et soigné ; je le trouve même carrément épatant. Bien sûr, ça ne tourne qu'à... 30 im/s mais quand même ! Voilà, c'était le seul compliment que je voulais sincèrement adresser à MGS4. Et c'est déjà pas mal.

    Car le reste, tout le reste est complètement à l'ouest... les cinématiques très nombreuses, longues et qui n'en finissent pas... tout ça pour "raconter" une histoire à la con à faire mourir de honte un Tom Clancy fatigué (ne te retourne pas dans ta tombe, Kojima restera toujours pire que toi, Tom !). C'est ici en vérité une soupe aux clichés particulièrement indigeste mais également un humour volontiers péteur (sic !) ou simplement idiot (cache-toi dans un baril et avance, Diogène !).

    L'interface générale est absconse et incroyablement mal faite, inexploitable, rendant la moindre action insupportable de lourdeur et de maladresse. L'infiltration reste une mauvaise blague, héritée des précédents "opus" d'une saga moribonde constamment à côté de ses pompes. Les voix restent en anglais et le sont restées d'ailleurs par la suite (cf MGS5 : Konami, toujours aussi radin...).

    Donc soit on s'ennuie, soit on peste contre la non-maniabilité d'un jeu pensé en dépit du bon sens le plus élémentaire, ce qui entraîne une non-jouabilité globale très alarmante... pour ce qui est censé... être... un "jeu vidéo". A la base. Mais ce n'est pas ça en définitive... c'est juste une merde, très jolie... mais c'est tout.    … Expand

    My true first entry into the series (aside from portable ops, but thats a different thing kinda) and this game is amazing! I read a lot of groups/fans that say this was a low point or a disappointment and I could not disagree more. Its f**king lunacy in about half of the story but it is earned and has charm. All around classic that still holds up.

Every single part of the game is brilliant and requires multiple playthroughs and experimentation to truly uncover the game's brilliance. The game's cutscenes are the longest in the series, and that's saying something, but the gameplay is always waiting for, and the game has enough confidence to know this.
