Besides the 6-player co-op mode, very little reminds us that this game debuted in 2022. Shredder’s Revenge lifts most of its ideas verbatim from the arcade classics, sprinkling some modern niceties and a handful of minor bugs. If you can recite the TMNT theme song by memory, this is definitely your game.

This is basically the true sequel of SNES’ Turtles in Time, one of the best beat ‘em ups of that console. As such, this is definitely a nostalgia trip, albeit a completely safe at that. We are more than happy with the large selection of stages, but the time travelling aspect of the old game was definitely more imaginative compared with the city based levels of the new one.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge feels like it’s designed from an Ninja Turtles arcade beat ‘em up template, which strips it of creativity and originality and makes it feel predictable and familiar. But the fluid combat continually sucks me back in, even though that also suffers from combat designs that should’ve been left in the past.

Shredder’s Revenge is one big nostalgia trip that doesn’t even try to do something more – like offering actually good and nuanced beat’em up experience, for example. [Issue#260, p.52]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge does what it set itself to do, bring people back to the 80's with a straight to the point beat ’em up experience. Despite of that, it remains modern, with enemies bringing up proper challenge to the player, even when facing the levels with friends. Unfortunately, it fails in bringing characters with personality. With all the turtles and other fighters doing pretty much the same thing, most passionate fans will still miss their beloved heroes.

In my 25 years of professionally reviewing video games, I have never felt more confident recommending everyone check out a video game than with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. [Ars Technica Approved]

So yes, Turtles single-player has been an absolute delight. I can't wait for my first six-player match.

This game is so mechanically satisfying, so endearingly fun, that I couldn’t wait to hop back into the familiar environments, which remind me so much of crouching around that TV as a kid all those years ago. [Polygon Recommends]
  4. It makes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge a fun - albeit short - romp that's perfect for a night lounging around on the sofa with mates, or in a Discord voice call from your bedrooms. It doesn’t make any big departures from what you might expect, but that simplicity lends itself to a more social gaming experience than I’m used to. I like to imagine it captures the feeling of crowding around the original arcade machine with your pals back in the 80s (even if, as a 00s baby, I’ve never actually done that). That said, Shredder's Revenge wasn't so fun alone, so I'd recommend waiting until you manage to get a group together. There's no rush to play this one, but it'll be a good couple of hours when you can convince friends to hop in.

And that’s heavy shoes to fill with the likes of old school arcade games like X-men,TMNT arcade and Simpsons. The jump in and jump out Co-op is great. I can create a lobby or jump right into another flawlessly. Controls are fluid and the story mode is rewarding with the power-ups”levels” you get and you can jump in and out of that as well like arcade. It’s hard to put down and I’ve probably logged 15 hours already with two days since launch. If you are on the fence….. GET THIS GAME NOW!! Full Review »
