From the new trilogy, i would say this game is the weakest. The story is literally a trashy, uniniteresting blob and the same goes for all characters except maybe Lara and Jonah who have good chemistry but are separated far too often.
Locations are the worst in the series, there's nothing interesting in them and the only saving grace are the challenge tombs.
Tombs are by far the best

Good action-adventure game that becomes too repetitive after 10 hours.
Exploration is well-done in this game, but due to the over-saturated map feels a bit like a chore after a while.
The puzzles are interesting and try to test your spatial reasoning as well as your hand-to-eye coordination. Most of the time, the parcour options make sense, but a few time, they are just trial and error

The combat works fine, but this game lacks enough action overall, proof is that I constantly need to leave ammo/materials behind.
    Still a solid game overall.

It is a welcome change that this time you have almost no combat, the "arenas" created for it look nice, with tons of ammo and you are supposed to do stealth, but the stealth is not very good and you end up using the bow from the same position a lot.

is it fun? , not really, a lot of grinding beyond the story to egt achievements, but if you liked the first two games in this trilogy, you will LOVE this one.

Crazy to think Lara Croft was once known as a badass dual-pistol-wielding, T-Rex fighting, motorcycle riding chick that was fearless, sexy, and all about raiding tombs.... in the late 90s. Fast forward to 2018, Lara Croft has now become one of the most boring characters in existence and her adventures consist of the same old Croft family melodrama the writers have been milking to DEATH, and hundreds upon hundreds of RPG-like NPC characters cosplaying as important side characters you should apparently care about. And then there's the ultimate king of all simps, Jonah.....

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, like so many other video games released recently, suffers greatly from the era during which it was released. In an attempt to appear inclusive, woke, and SJW-friendly game studios annually churn out bland, uninspired, and boring products with mediocre stories and characters. The game even begins with a short paragraph upon start that informs the player of its own inclusiveness. All that just to appease trigger-happy SJWs always ready to cause a social media storm (there are many indigenous tribes portrayed in this game that could potentially result in allegations of racism/cultural appropriations). That alone should've been a huge warning sign for me. As if the previous two titles -- Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Tomb Raider (2013) weren't bland, boring, and uninspired enough, Shadow of the Tomb Raider continues the tradition set by its boring predecessors from featuring classic Hollywood cliched plot & awful characters to gameplay that attempts to be everything other than a good Tomb Raider game. Gone are the days of intricate puzzles, atmospheric exploration, and immaculate score -- Tomb Raider has essentially become a glorified hunting simulator, and is just few steps away from being a full on RPG grind fest. These new games are really not Tomb Raider games, they just happen to include that name in their titles.

To say this final chapter in Lara Croft's never ending origin story left a bitter taste in my mouth would be an understatement. The franchise is almost like a study in "can Crystal Dynamics possibly get Tomb Raider even MORE WRONG?" -- the people who own the Tomb Raider brand know zilch about why the original games are such highly valued classics, and as a fan of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft since 1996 -- this is extremely frustrating. I'm not gonna play the whole silly "it's not a bad game, it's just not a good Tomb Raider game" nonsense many have succumbed to. That might've been valid for the first two titles in the reboot series, but Shadow of the Tomb Raider is just NOT fun to play. PERIODT. It's a tedious and soulless experience.

I had heard some grumblings on the internet that the writers made a mess of Shadow of the Tomb Raider making Lara too whiny. After finishing the game I can’t say that I agree. After finishing the game I can’t say that I agree. If I had one issue with the writing it would have been that they had an opportunity to go for a more sadistic Lara at one point and didn’t take it. I can understand why they didn’t as many would feel it isn’t in the characters nature but it seemed like a missed opportunity and something I would have enjoyed to see explored. If you have played the previous Tomb Raider games in this reboot franchise then you know what to expect. The puzzles are overall pretty decent, some are a tad annoying but nothing too bad. Two bits I will single out on that front is there is a puzzle involving mirrors that I felt had too much backtracking. There is another puzzle to progress in the tomb of the Monkey Gods where the save points are much farther apart than normal which made it more annoying than it had to be. The voice acting is fantastic as usual. The story was interesting but a little poorly explained at points. How exactly does what Lara do cause tidal waves and earthquakes ? Even a non scientific supernatural answer would have sufficed but none came. Also near the end when a “God needs to be sacrificed” the God in question doesn’t actually die so what do they mean by sacrifice ? Overall though the story was enjoyable as were many of the characters. The franchise has done a good job having interesting villains. The graphics as usual were very good. Fabrics getting wet had great detail; lighting was fantastic; and face shadows and hair details were all great. Dead enemies looked poor as did most of the ground detail though. I also disliked the piranha’s which can attack you underwater. Unlike the eels where you have a chance to defeat them the piranha’s are a one hit kill enemy that require a bit of stealth to bypass which I don’t enjoy. The combat was fun; easy to get into and had loads of options for play styles. I liked the addition of covering Lara with mud to sneak and hide in bushes and walls waiting to knife enemies.

I played Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Linux. It crashed on me twice during my play through. Once was on exit but the other was during game play. The game did have an issue where the audio would crackle on me or have what sounded like static but this only happened a couple times total. The game uses an auto save process of checkpoints. There is a manual save option but it never seemed to save my exact location and I would start from my most recent checkpoint anyway. Alt-Tab didn’t work for me. There are thirteen different graphics options to go with a toggle for ambient occlusion and three different settings for AA. You can change the difficulty at any time during game play. I also had an issue where a lever I needed to use wouldn’t give me the option to use it until I quit and reloaded my save. Overall the game ran really well. The few times where the game would drop in frame rate never lasted very long and my usual FPS was above 80 FPS. The game supported my 144 hZ

    CPU Usage: 12-80 %
    RAM Usage: 4.9-6.7 GB

Despite some technical issues the game ran well overall and was fun to play. If you enjoyed previous Tomb Raider games of late then you’ll probably enjoy this one as well. The game play hasn’t changed much and that is fine as it is a good formula. I finished the campaign on “One With the Jungle” difficulty in 24 hours and 30 minutes. The exact completion rate was 77.23% so I did a fair bit of side quests as well. I paid $42.04 CAD for the game and feel it was worth the price.

It's a beautifully made game, with cool mechanics and greater-than-life graphics, but I think the name us wrong: it should be called "Psychopath Simulator". After playing it I felt that I'm not sure if I like the protagonist at all, which is not what I expect to feel in games.

Lara Croft massacres people. She kills them from up close, with knives through their back, from the shadows. And after slaughtering a few men, she can talk to an NPC and hear that he's sad, and suddenly her puppy eyes look so sad as well. She seems like a machine that learned the motion. I can't buy her air of fragility when she keeps massacring people - where's the PTSD? Feeling of regret? Even thoughts of "am I right in doing that?". No sir, she storms the tombs like a one person storm trooper, and feels nothing. I'm having difficulties finishing the game because this is chilling my blood. My own protagonist scares me. This is not a good storytelling - I've played many Naughty Dog games, and it's not like that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I love the settings menu and everything they allow you to tweak. It's also really great that they allow you to adjust difficulty more granularly. The exploration of tombs and puzzle solving is much better than the previous two games and is, perhaps, the best it's ever been in the series, period.

Anybody saying this is the same as Rise of the Tomb Raider is talking out their you-know-what. There are more changes and improvements in this game than we got from one game to another in a certain other similar franchise that I won't name. Suffice to say, this game has evolved plenty and is a lot of fun to play.

Oh and anybody claiming this looks worse than Rise of the Tomb Raider is either certifiably blind or just trolling. This game is a good leap above the last game in nearly every area of its graphical makeup.

What I liked (in general and in comparison with Larisa in 2016):
    - the well-designed jungle: they really look alive and full of some kind of plausible flora and fauna.
    - the story went a little bit into a more personal adventure and added a little drama (just a little bit).
    - there were hubs (cities) with their lives and population (albeit scripted).
    - added some new mechanics, but they could have been added before because they would have fit into the overall gameplay.
    - The motivation of the antagonist is pleasing - at least not typical for villains of this genre of games.
What I did not like (in general, and compared to Larissa in 2016):
    - everything is super scripted: somewhere the game helps you on purpose, and somewhere you can't get caught in the obvious ledge or jump on a plane.
    - the characters' experiences and their "game" are too underplayed in all aspects.
    - the game has turned out to be a hyper simple - as example: a skill that allows you to no longer press the lead button and more other things.
    - the passage of tombs and crypts does not motivate anybody to get some really useful cookie after passing a couple of such places.
    - for me personally, being able to kraft and change clothes is a completely useless thing in the game.
    - expected more drama from the story, and in the end only 2 or 3 scenes/levels were remembered and that's it.
    - sad from the ending at all, because I didn't expect it to be the same. But on the plus side, at least she's somehow ending Larissa's dialogue/triology of adventure.
    - the main character's appearance is less attractive, but the hips are still good.

Finally got around to playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider just recently as I wanted to wait until I got my new computer to play the game. So here are my thoughts:

Graphics: A massive mixed bag, the in game cut scenes look fantastic as well as the lighting and overall the game looks pretty solid, however sometimes the game is just downright ugly with washed out colours, characters looking clay-like and the game often looking pixelated especially background scenery.

Gameplay: Very similar to Rise of the Tomb Raider, except Rise of the Tomb Raider took what was good about its predecessor and improved upon it. Shadow does the opposite of this with few additions to the Rise gameplay and the game just feels so much clunkier than Rise as well as being frustrating at times with quick time events and bad level design with the game feeling incredibly linear. The game also punishes you for going stealth with the bow being practically useless since most enemies take multiple hits to kill regardless of headshots, better off going guns blazing like Uncharted.

Story: It sucks, the devs clearly didn't care about the story so why should I? Cookie cutter two dimensional characters that are picked up and dropped like a rock, peoples motivations aren't explained and Lara is the only character that is likeable (just barely)

Audio: The music is pretty decent, however the audio will cut out at times and the lip syncing will also go out of sync from time to time.

Overall: To sum up, the game is noticeably worse than its predecessors. The game is too linear and holds your hand tightly with incredibly uninspired level design. It looks pretty good visually (for the most), the gameplay is fine (even though its forgettable) and the story, well you won't remember it after a day. Sadly the game is just mediocre, maybe pick it up in a couple of years during a Steam sale for $5? Almost forgot to mention, the game has quite a few bugs including visual bugs, audio bugs and gameplay bugs that require you to reload from the last checkpoint. Have fun :)

Edit: Also realised I missed an entire scene (the cool scene where she rises from the water with flames etc) as the game just skipped it, the scene just didn't happen it cut past it, just another bug worth pointing out.

Basically get ready to be interrupted 100 times in 1 hour of game by slow motions, forced walking sequences, cutscenes, scripted dialogues and pointless animations.
Non-lethal stealth is still NOT an option. Hello? Eidos, you developed Deus Ex, you should know how to deal with stealth. But nope.
Let Lara slaughter 500 people left, right and center and then pretend to write a story about her eMoTiOnS!!!1!
Level design is the same basic one. And again, baffling considering the developers of Deus Ex dealt with this.
Tombs and puzzles are cool though. Optimization is good given the quality, but nothing to write home about.

Great atmosphpere and aestethics. This could have been a very good game. Howerver: there are two catches:

Overdramatic, and always spoiling the good moment by commenting the obvious. And she looks boring too.

    2. Gameplay: Controls would be fine, if gameplay was not interrupted by tons of cutscenes or forced to slow down for dramatic effects or to emphasize Laras whine over radio. Once you get through the main game you can start the more interesting side quests and challenges.

My advice for original Tomb Raider fans: get through the main story in a rush, then change Laras appearance to an old version and switch off her annoying voice. Now the game becomes actually very nice and there are still plenty of things to discover in side missions.

I can't comment on the main storyline as i either skipped the damn cutscenes (if possible) or cut the sound and walked away until the cutscene was over (if skipping was impossible).

As a Tomb Raider fan since the very beginning, i feel sorry for how Lara Crofts character has been sabotaged. I mean HELLO? this is a computer game! There really is no need to have your depressed girl next door in the main role just for political correctness.

I didn't like it at first, then I started playing in the hardest difficulty and found it much more enjoyable.

Graphics: It looks incredible... in the beginning... then it starts to look nice like any other game nothing special. A bit too dark to my taste. I bought it because of RTX and is kinda lame because I had to wait like a year to be ready. And still looks lame with RTX.

Gameplay: Is bit simpler than Rise, many skills are not useful at all or don't work. Stealth is mostly gone. The fights are hard if you insist in going stealthy. Don't even think in going melee. Just pick up the rifle and kill everything in the hardest difficulty with no problems. The Platforming is fun, the tombs are fine and there are more this time.

Story: The story is kinda lame like most Tomb Raider stories except the first one. But I like this darker Lara she seems more human. They need to find better bad guys.

So why the 8? Because it's fun enough, looks great and kept me entertained for more than 60 hours or so.

    + Grafik!
+ Unterwasserlevels haben sie gut hinbekommen!

    + Sprachausgabe!

14 Stunden Spielzeit (nur Story 8-10 Stunden)
Jetzt kommen wir zu den schlechten Eigenschaften:

    - Story!
langweilig!
GRAUENVOLL!
    - Zu viele nervige Passagen!
    - Story zu kurz!

Abschließend kriegt Shadow of the Tomb Raider von mir eine 8,6/10!

However...(you knew this was coming right?)...what you end up discovering in those wonderful spaces are dull boring and samey.. More often than not, your exploration will be rewarded by a skill or gear upgrade. Bearing in mind that the TR skill tree is utterly pointless, none of the upgrades makes a blind bit of difference to the gaming experience, this makes the end result meaningless and unrewarding.
The best bits of the game can be found away from the main story line with side missions and general exploration, and especially where things get a little freaky, the worst bit is mashing the "survival instinct" button every second making sure you're not missing some pointless item or resource.
A little bit shocked just how easily killing and dealing with death comes to Lara. She seems to have no compunction in piercing someone with an arrow and hanging them from a tree or stabbing them in the back of the head.
    .
This is an angry obstreperous Lara, brimming with angst and worry. I mean take a chill pill, do you not have THE best job in the world: travel to exotic places discover ancient treasures and artifacts. Where is your joy Lara? There is little or no fun in the gameplay. It takes itself so seriously.

Ok, the exploration puzzles are where the game excels, if that's what you like. You pull levers, jump over traps, find contraptions that still work after several centuries, and explore a number of admittedly gorgeous locales.

Combat is pretty bad, with unsatisfying weapons, a terrible over the shoulder aiming system that enemies take advantage of, and especially obnoxious stealth mechanics. There's a point mid game where you lose all your equipment (oh my god, why do almost all game have to have such a section???) and are forced in a really abysmal sequence. You don't have the freedom of Assassin's Creed: you need to pass through very small areas with forced choke points, and need to find out the exact, scripted sequence that will allow you to beat the level purely by trial and error. First you need to go left and dispose of the first guy with thermal goggles. Then don't kill the other two guys, or enemies will see you. You need to go left, wait for another guy to pass, etc. Zero gameplay freedom, and never mind the fact that all the enemies you kill drop firearms, and yet the game prevents you from picking up any. Boring and irritant as hell!
Oh, and don't get me started on the genius side quests! For example, one requires you to free four rebels who have been "crucified" through the village as examples. How do you do it? Walk around the village following the map markers and click Y when you reach a prisoner. That's it. And the rest are not much better.
I cringe at the dialogues going on in the background: I honestly don't think that South America is populated by retarded people who reason like 11 years-old children, and yet they are so simplistically written that I cannot help but feel embarrassed.
I've played Uncharted 4 not too long ago, and while both games really stretch suspension of disbelief to the limit, U4 has way, way better writing and characterization. Tomb Raider is a feminist dream. You visit a modern jungle village, whose unofficial leader is an exceedingly capable young woman. Then a village lost to time, whose leader is a super-badass-wise-courageous woman, Unuratu. Oh, you also encounter some savage deformed humans, led by - you guessed right - a woman. U4 has a male protagonist but does not misrepresent women, quite the opposite: Helena is a great character who can adventure hand in hand with Nathan, and one enemy is a mercenary gal who repeatedly beats the crap out of Nathan. In Tomb Raider, what do we have? Lara's meek friend-servant Jonah, who never tries to keep up with her at anything, plus a number of dummies, who repeatedly get humiliated, in multiple instances, by the super-ladies in the game. Just pay attention to NPC dialogues, for multiple examples that would never get approved if sexes were switched. Unuratu, the uber queen, repeatedly defeats in combat men who are obviously much, much stronger than her, and at one point stops a whole army of warriors, by herself. Men? They obviously suck, unless they are serving women, in which case they are tolerated. There's a supposed super soldier from the US Special Forces, who can only kill one target person by shooting them in the back, that's about what his super-soldier status amounts to.
All in all, the gorgeous setting does not save the game, I'm really not enjoying it. I'll try to finish it but I'll probably give up once the inevitable confrontation with the evil stupid male opponents arrives.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a pretty game, but it’s a complete slog to play. It provides an excellent example of how the focus on graphics of the “Triple A” space of the game industry is causing serious detriment to the overall quality of games.

The graphics, being the game’s greatest strength, are also one of its greatest weaknesses. Environments are very pretty, but they’re busy to the point of making it nearly impossible to navigate. The game has a perception key that provides a quest marker and highlights (some) interactable objects, and you’ll find yourself having to press it every five seconds while playing. Even then, you’ll frequently struggle with trying to figure out which piece of hanging rope is important and which of the 57 rock ledges can be grabbed. While environments are varied, the game’s animations are too repetitive. You’ll frequently see the same loop for deaths, taking breaths while swimming, shuffling under things, squeezing through openings, and many other actions.

The controls are unintuitive, taking hours to learn and even then requiring prompts for some of the obscure actions. Once the player has learned them, they still don’t work consistently, usually killing the player when they decide not to.

Worldbuilding is rather poor. The modern areas were interesting and believable, but the generic NPCs are utterly lifeless, just repeating the same actions repeatedly and having little to no interactivity. The ruins, meanwhile, often seem to exist for the sake of ruins. They’ll be in places that seem logistically impossible, lack any sort of sensible access and entrances, and just overall be in better condition than seems probable. There are also things which seem to exist purely for getting in the player’s way. For example, at one point the player has to lower an ancient drawbridge to get across a river. Why would there be a drawbridge in a civilization with no river traffic beyond canoes? There are numerous examples of puzzles and environments like this, where there appears to be no logical basis for the existence of these constructions. Another issue with worldbuilding regards the hostile animals. The player can be attacked by piranhas, which instantly kills them. In reality, piranhas are relatively docile regarding humans, and in the case that they do attack one, they’ll cause minor injuries and are almost never fatal. The player can also be attacked by jaguars, which is incredibly rare unless cornered, as they’re afraid of humans. Multiple jaguars can attack the player at once, which is another mathematical impossibility, because they’re solitary animals.

The writing was bad at times, but the overall story was interesting (at least the first third was, as I couldn’t stand the gameplay beyond that point). Dialogue was good and the voice acting excellent, but the protagonists were frequently saved by deus ex machina and plot holes were prevalent. Characters also seemed fairly one dimensional, with a few exceptions such as Jonah.

There are issues with the camera. In cramped areas, it often gets stuck on rocks, leaving you unable to see what you’re doing, and when you aim your weapons, it jitters and makes hitting your targets difficult.

The game suffers from poorly-implemented cutscenes. Control is frequently taken from the player for seemingly no reason, and it’s not always clear when it’s been returned. In hostile environments, this can kill the player. There are other instances where the game effectively has a cutscene, but it requires the player to hold the forward key for progression. You can’t even control the camera in these instances. What is the point?

The stealth is poor, and it is the reason that I gave up on the game. When using stealth, enemies act practically brain-dead, but they generally stay next to each other such that killing one alerts the rest. If you do alert the enemies, then your chances of using stealth are over. This is fine for the first third of the game, as you could use stealth to take down a few enemies that were separated and then take up a defensive position for gunning the rest down. The problem arose when the game decided that, despite the presence of loaded weaponry and lack of penalty for allowing the firing of said weaponry, you just weren’t allowed to use it. I personally couldn’t stand spending half an hour to kill six enemies, especially when the means to kill them all in less than five seconds existed but was simply barred from me for no good reason, so I gave up.

All in all, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a very pretty game. It’s just not fun to play. The budget needed to be spent on better playtesting rather than graphics. The overall story is what kept me playing for as long as I did, but the plot could have been better-written rather than relying so heavily on cliches and highly improbable occurrences. Furthermore, the characters could be better-developed.

For any fan of the rebooted Tomb Raider series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a worthy finale to this trilogy. The game is by no means perfect and with flaws, but there is plenty done right in this entry.

Just like the previous entries, the graphics, sound design, and tombs are all incredibly well done. The tombs are especially a lot more intricate with its details and nuances this time around. Exploration is a key element as it rewards you with collectibles, consumables, and tombs/crypts. Speaking of collectibles, there is an incredible amount to find strewn about the world accompanied with little tidbits of story and lore. I will say the story isn’t as crazy and chaotic as the last games, but it was still pretty engaging.

I did have some sound and graphical issues, where the sound cuts off, or a cutscene freezes. The voice acting can, at times, be a little awkward and out of place, which I feel kills the experience a bit. The combat is standard, but the enemy A.I. is not the greatest: for the vast majority of the time, the enemy will simply come to you for easy kills.

All in all, I really enjoyed my time with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I’ve been a fan since the original title in the reboot, and I think this was a good way to send the series off. If you’re looking for a good platformer, exploration, and adventure title, make sure to pick this one up.

There was a moment - right after the game deprives you of your weapons and forces you to stab armored enemies who shoot at you, with their guns - that Lara finds a new bow.... she doesn’t pick up a gun, but elects to use an ancient bow.... smh. The writers have the same circumstance happen like three more times and each time it’s more ridiculous. Ironically, the bulk of the campaign encourages you to gather hides to upgrade and salvage to improve your weapons (Don’t bother)

The worst part of this game is the convoluted story which makes no sense. The writers felt they needed to link all indigenous American cultures into one stupid fanciful narrative. They pepper in some Trinity stuff and some mutilated lipless monsters and human sacrifice .. it is really bad... a really dumb white-savior story, which is tired. The game is fun, however, traversal is still enjoyable. The setting is gorgeous. The game plays too well to go lower than 6. The story is awful. The worst of the three. The features of rpg increase greatly. Lots of customization of weapons. Very few enemies. I have developed many weapons and unlocked many skills.Probably never even used. The game drives so much exploration in order to improve skills without a real sense since there are no enemies. The story is discreet. But never exciting

The best entry of a new trilogy, with old-tomb-raider vibes such as exploring forgotten ruins amid the peruvian jungle or diving in a underground lake that's full of piranhas.

This has nothing to do with the old tomb raider games....and is a bit worse than the previous 2 games of the trilogy. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was a slight improvement over its prequels: Climbing, diving, and stealth have been further improved to offer more freedom. Shadow's story continues after Rise, so it's advisable to play that first. If you played Rise, Shadow will import your skins from it, in case you liked using those.

Shadow's story continues after Rise, so it's advisable to play that first. If you played Rise, Shadow will import your skins from it, in case you liked using those.

The game has an amazing story and the cutscenes are really nice to watch since Lara is more involved with the people in the world as opposed to simply flying solo. The lore for the collectibles continue to be an interesting read, and there is a lot for you to search and collect.

The combat is sadly bland, and most of the puzzles are straightforward and hold your hand through them, which kind of ruins the fun. The traps are meaningless too, since they are incredibly easy to detect and there's really only two different kinds of traps. The skills, items and so on are completely unnecessary; if anything, they make the game too easy. I stopped upgrading Lara not long after starting the game because of this.

I suggest NOT using any DLC-related weapons, since they make the combat too easy. (But seeing as how the combat's kind of annoying to deal with anyway, it might not a bad idea either.) Having to use your basic weapons and needing three shots to kill something isn't ideal, and just wastes your time with the fighting. But it's your choice.

Ultimately, I had some difficulty figuring out what to rate this sequel. On one hand, the game feels good; it's great to explore a vast world and there's plenty to do. On the other hand, because of how easy and one-dimensional it is, it can become a chore after long sessions.

I've always played the TR series with a controller, but due to a serious issue in this sequel where the camera is extremely sensitive on it, I've had to maneuver differently in order to make up for the poor aiming. This sequel is definitely easier to play with a keyboard and mouse. Sadly, Square Enix doesn't seem to be addressing this issue at all.

I can only give this game a 7, because giving it an 8 would imply that the game is fine, when it isn't. Although the story was absolutely spectacular, the lack of decent traps and puzzles to increase the tomb difficulty was a disappointment. The game itself is quite long though, which is a plus, content-wise.

    3. The story is so unclear and boring, that at the end of the game I wasn't sure what's the problem with Paititi and who is Dr. Dominguez.
    4. There is less freedom than in the previous part. This game leads you even if you don't want that. It always blocks some parts of the map and moves or restricts the camera (POV) depending on the current quest. Seems like the game treats us like a 6-year old children.
    5. Face animations. Sometimes normal, sometimes ugly. Kind of Mass Effect Andromeda.

It gets 4 points because of a good fighting/stealth, and quite interesting tombs.

Not only is this the best Tomb Raider by far but its also a shining example of what a great game should be about. Think of the difference between this one and the last one as the difference between the Witcher 2 and 3, that's how major it is. Its become almost a full RPG experience now, with side quests, a sweet levelling system, craftable gear and exploration. The world is huge and there's so much hidden treasure to find, some of it really hidden well and requiring a sharp eye to locate. The quests aren't just handed to you on a plate either, you actually have to hunt for them now. The areas are beautifully detailed and jaw dropping, to the point where if you keep stopping to admire the art work you'll never finish the dang thing.
One of the main selling points for me is the new difficulty level. I breezed through the previous 2 titles, but this game had me scratching my head a lot, much like the original games did. More often than not you really have to look around and figure out viable ledges to grab onto, rather than it being obvious.
The level of detail, the small things that not many people notice, are really where it shines. Laura's boot hitting a skull as she traverses a ledge, which then rolls off and bounces down into a huge pit. The wildlife, which is absolutely everything and extremely varied, all of which can be hunted for crafting materials. Some much love and care has gone into this game, it's simply incredible. For me it's Lara first true move into a full open world experience, which I always hope would happen and now it has.
The combat is awesome too. You can approach combat situations in a variety of ways, using stealth, creating distractions, or just going in guns blazing. There's a huge amount of weapons and projectiles, like molotov, smoke grenades, fire arrows, just so much...you're really spoilt for choice.
Unlike the last title it's not just a bunch of cut scenes and set pieces either, trying to wow you by having some long sequence where Lara falls about 300 metres, crashing through this and that, only to get up unscathed. The game is now a lot more immersive.
I just hope this becomes the default recipe for tomb raider games now and they build and build on this formula. This is the game that Lara has deserved for many years now. A Tomb Raider for the new gaming age.

Comentario: O jogo é lindo, a gameplay é chata, previsivel e monotona.

Crafting and gear is fun, but there's no reason to always start from stratch.

I want the bad arse with the mansion, the classy accent and the dual pistols back. I've enjoyed these games, but if this is the story of 'how she became to tomb raider', and it's over: can we have the actual tomb raider now?

Also, stop with the endless cutscenes, give the players some meaningful choices, and get rid of those damned time trials (every other mechanic is great, but those are grindy and annoying).

Cinematic is nice, and your story telling is nice (although the overall plot was very similar to the 2nd game), but often with cinematic games it feels like you are just watching a movie with challenges inbetween. Like the things you do have no impact. I enjoyed the story telling it was good, but I grow very tired of games where the player makes no real difference to the game. You have skills, crafting, dialogue, storytelling: Why not go the full hog, make the next one an adventure RPG with meaningful choices, and dialogue options?-

Side quests are disaster, npcs are army of clones. Most of the time weapons and outfits are locked, so you are forced to wear that fancy tribe outfit and use bow.
All these mechanics from trailers like using mud or "hunting down" your enemies are **** because there are almost no fights.

Im was a very passionate about the series and if somehow you made me forget about this game, i would still be. So i bought the game, over-priced, 2 months before the release, so hyped because at the time i had ended 100% of Rise of the Tomb Raider and i loved the entire game, top to bottom, so the premise of this game being the end of those two amazing previously games got me so hooked up.

Wish i had saw this coming... the game released with some bugs, not letting me play for the first weeks, which i found funny, cause i paid more for some "limited offer" that had last 3 to 4 months after the release, i couldn't play in the miserable two days that they have "given" for those who pre-ordered and after 1 month they put the game on sale. This scenario enraged me, made me feel scammed and this why my score is a big zero, if this was not happened to me, i would give a 3 or 4, and here's why:
    - The color scheme sometimes gave me feeling of tiredness, i believe the darker greens makes this.
    - The idea of the plot is good, but poorly executed, which made the game boring and pointless until the end.
    - The end which you would expect something meaningful for a end of a trilogy and the end of the prelude, that will lead us for the classic Lara, there's nothing special, doesn't look like at a end for this game, and if you'd to guess that the remake for the classics come next, you'll never.
    - Last boss, doesn't look like a boss, just a regular enemy that you didn't hit kill.
    - The controls sometimes didn't respond to my commands making Lara skip some commands, for jumps, most frequently.
    - The limitation for outfits in some areas. [BAD]
    - The DLCs not adding nothing important to the plot.
    - The predominance of tribal outfits. [BAD]
    - The only good points are the attempt to make Lara an "anti-hero" and the "enraged Lara" scene.

    And that's it.

Unfortunately, I really had to force myself to finish this one, and having looked forward to it so much I am extremely disappointed. There were virtually no satisfying combat moments, too much pointless wondering around areas, far too much cutscene based "story" which, by the way, was totally insipid, vapid and morally patronising. It's like the devs thought the main demographic that plays Tomb Raider games are 12 yr old girls or something that they have some moral responsibility to educate. There were many cutscene based dialogue moments that just didn't need to be in the game, like Lara taking the parasite out of Jonas' arm. What the hell was the point of that scene and dialogue?

This new Lara has now being constrained to simply a "safe" role model for young feminists / girls and has lost all her sultry sexiness and backbone which made her so appealing in the first game. The other characters in the story were all so "PG" too. There's not even a real bad guy in the story, the bad guy ends up being kinda "nice" too!

Too safe, Too vapid, Too vanilla. Too weak.

On the positive it's entirely safe to let your 5 year old daughter play it, which was probably the intention.

Now travel is harder and settings are adjustable and dont even compare this traveling with uncharted climbing simulator 4 at least here you need to use some timing. Exploration is better and more rewarding.
Focus on stealth is a welcome addition now Lara is not "one woman army" and theres the option to sneak through silently in some parts. In some others you will have to fight.
On the downside there are few new characters and not all of them are interesting but also this game is focused on Lara. The sidequests are useless perhaps a little better than previous games but still not good.
The optimization is terrible on towns and the parts where are NPCs talking it kills your framerate.
in my opinion the 2013 reboot had the best characters and story but this one is fine, better than ROTTR and is also longer. It deserves a higher score...
