Once in a while you reach certain save areas called "base camps" where you have many options to upgrade your gear and abilities...just like in Resident Evil 4. Story is not so good, environments tend to become monotonous after a while, and tombs dont feel special...It is a relative good game for a casual gamer who just wants to kill some time after work but not for the old school TR player. He may enjoy it but not as a TR game....Sadly, the TR spirit is long gone.... Expand

Houve evolução consideravel em tudo desde o TR 2013, graficos, mapa etc. Historia bem gliche prometendo algo pro terceiro jogo, gostei mais da babvanga como Boss do que o vilão russo do jogo principal.

It's fun, isn't it? After Uncharted being so inspired in the original Tomb Raider series, it's so ironic that the new Tomb Raider era consists basically of trying to emulate Naughty Dog's hit. Where in the 2013 game, the character development of the new Lara, a normal person turning herself into a serial killer in order to survive in a mad island, here they deliver a mediocre storyline of a daddy issue suffering Lara that reminds the mediocre mid-2000s Tomb Raider games. Where she was more like a human being in the past game, here she's again just a rich person with nothing else to do, just **** around and obsessed with a discovery in a way that feels too similar (but not nearly as good) as Uncharted 3 storyline.

Then all the random soviet guys in the storyline, the now-mandatory wanna-be-open-world / crafting / hunting moments (inspired by Far Cry success but here it just simply feel boring), it never feels detailed and I can't care for the characters. The combat is ridicously easy and casual even on the more difficult sessions too.

The game is still casual fun, like a blockbuster action movie, but Uncharted is casual fun too (and with awful, Indiana-Jones ripped storylines too), but at least I have Drake and Sullivan who are among the finest modern characters in game and ND's level of detail, here you have a common AAA shooter which it happens to have legendary the Tomb Raider name on it.

I loved TR 2013, but already there you could sense repetitiveness after playing it a bit. This new Rise of Tomb Raider is 100% carbon copy of TR 2013. There is exactly NOTHING new in this game. Puzzles are too simple. This game is just a gigantic disappointment. Expand

Firstly, this game is definitely overrated in my opinion, though i understand many gamers would probably disagree right away as it has been rated really well. I thought the graphics were fricking sick but i felt the story could have had more thought put in by the developers, and challenge tombs could have been worked on harder to be more challenging then they were.

The little side items that you obtain in small chests to find and grab were pretty pointless in my opinion though the gameplay was alright as I loved the inventory upgrade system with the camp fire and the areas were pretty awesome to roam around. I enjoyed the side missions much better than the story as they add more to the game and was more stuff to do. The combat was op i must admit. One more thing to say positively about rise of the tomb raider is that it was really well optimized and i only encountered one bug in a challenge tomb with a canoe.
The last tomb raider was definitely better in every way except the graphics in my view.

    A Step Back From Greatness
Tomb Raider 2013 is one of my most favorite games ever.. Needless to say I was excited to play the sequel..
Unfortunately, they dropped the gritty tone of the original to chase uncharted….
Lara sets out to uncover a mystery her father was mocked for..
This game starts out in the Serbian mountains and the majority of the game keeps you in the snow covered mountains…
And of course there are bad guys after the same artifact you are..
    So youre not alone…
The tomb raider reboot introduced a crafting system which has been brought back, but this time feels much more in the background..
You can gather items and hunt animals for materials to craft bandages and upgrade your weapons…
But none of this is forced…
And much like the past game you upgrade your weapons at a campfire, which also acts as a fast travel point and a place for you to spend your skill points as you level up…
Rise of the tomb raider feels much more linear this time around..
The world doesn’t really feel as connected as the original…
Its for the most part a linear path that you traverse with climbing aces and ropes..
The game feels much more like assassins creed this time around because of this…
It gives uncharted 4 a run for its money with how much climbing you actually do here…
As well as the series as a whole during the few epic chase sequences qhich are easily some of my favorite moments in the entire game…
When you aren’t climbing there are a few openish sections you can explore but the mistake the original made is back as well with secrets being locked off until you progress further in the story to unlock the needed tool and come back...
This is a cheap tactic to prolong gameplay hours…
but more so its frustrating and ironically discourages exploration…
Why look around when 1 in 2 areas is going to tell me to come back later?
I might as well just ignore everything and run forward..
This is what I ended up doing..
Fortunately rise of the tomb raider is gorgeous, and traversing the parquor sections and solving environmental puzzles old fans will be happy to see returned outside of just being secrets is a great deal of fun…
And the 3rd person shooter combat feels decently nice, its not uncharted good, but its passable.. you have the option to stealth or shoot your way through most sections… you can also dodge attacks and counter….
The puzzle pieces are all here for this to be a masterpiece of a game…
except theyre missing the center piece… the one thing that makes all of this come together and work for uncharted in such a beautiful way…
    And that’s character…
Theres not a single well written character in this entire game…
    This includes lara…
The original this wasn’t so.. the game felt so real and you felt so vulnerable.. not only having to survive enemies but the environment.. I cared the entire way.. here however youre just a girl Nathan drake with 0 personality…
Which ultimately makes this feel like just a generic third person shooter experience…
There was no reason to stray away from the unique gritty adventure they had going on with tomb raider 2013, but they did and the feel of the game suffered for it
And Im not sure if this story was game of thrones inspired, but it felt pretty copy and paste making every turn so predictable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if again the characters had character, but they didn’t.. I wasn’t invested in the story at all…
The PS4 20 year celebration version also comes with all of the dlc…
Endurance which can be played either single or co op where youre tasked with surviving by eating food and gathering resources.. Very fun idea, but the challenges for the trophies wont unlock unless they are an active challenge, which if youre trophy hunting kills all reason to continue if there are no more trophy related challenges to do…
cold darkness which is a stealth zombie dlc where you have to infiltrate a research base for a chemical weapon
as well as Baba Yaga and Blood ties which ill be reviewing on their own as they are each about an hour long expansion with their own stories..
While I do wish the characters were better written in Rise of The Tomb Raider, I still feel is a quality experience, well worth your money if youre a fan of action adventure…
I Give Rise of The Tomb Raider..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Рецензия на игру Raise of the Tomb raider от Будеева.А.
Raise of the Tomb raider-сиквел перезапуска знаменитой франшизы.

Visuals are really nice, it's one of the better looking games, tho my minor complaint is worse performance in Geothermal Valley zone compared to the rest of the game.

The gameplay is really fine, you have bow, pistol, riffle and shotgun so this combined with perk system and weapon upgrades gives quite enough diversity in combat and how you approach each situation.

If you played a previous installment, this is pretty much the same with new setting to explore and new story, witch few changes here and there (mainly upgrade and perk system are a bit better here.

However, I can't give more than 7 because as I already mentioned, the story is a bit cliche and a lot of gameplay time is being pushed thru collectibles and there is a lot of them. The worst part is that collectibles require constant backtracking since you can't access some without some tools which you get after progressing much further into main story. This really destroys flow of the game. Second complaint about collectibles - they are nearly meaningless (very small benefit from certain collectibles). I don't understand how lazy developers became, because you can make even basic content filler, such as collectibles really fun.

    Pros:
    - Visuals
    - Setting
    - Gameplay and presentation

    Cons:
    - Cliche story
    - dull and uninspired content filler - collectibles.

The cut-scenes, though frequent and on the longer side, never tend to bore the player, but rather immerse him in a great and exciting story. The content is extensive and there's plenty to see and do, though the puzzles do tend to get a bit repetitive towards the later stages.
The gameplay is solid, though some aspects could be improved. Especially the melee fighting comes out as a bit "clunky" at times. Furthermore, the collection of scrolls and scribblings, secret coin caches, relics and other such junk that you find lying around never really makes that big of a difference. Supplies and ammunition are plentiful, negating the need for frequent crafting, though you do need some special resources in order to craft certain utilities.
The gameplay isn't too linear due to the fact that there are many chances for side quests which bring some bonuses, but are not obligatory for normal progression. The down side is that the bonuses you unlock usually become available at a later stage of the game anyway, which means you'll only really benefit from them for a short amount of time. This does however ensure that new game mechanics, which become available throughout the game, bring a new twist, resulting in a better gameplay experience.
The game also tends to vary in its pace, which was a nice surprise for me. You have your usual stealth assassination parts, but there are also parts where a firefight is necessary in order to progress. You'll also be thrust into sudden action with events such as collapsing bridges or falling rocks, which seem to come out of nowhere while you are peacefully climbing your way through the game.
Overall the game is a great experience. It's main problems lie in gameplay mechanics and the usual lag and drop in FPS. 8/10

There are many platforming segements that while visualing appealing are typically on rails and you have little choice in how to go about climbing things and almost no chance of failure. If the game has one pitfall it's this. The platforming is fairly easy.

The game is strongest in it's challenge tombs, which oddly despite the game being called "Tomb Raider" are not integral to the games completion or where the plot pulls you, but solving the tombs puzzles is always satisfying and usually involves a bit of thinking.

The game is a worthy purchase if you liked the first one or enjoy adventure games with a lot of potential exploration. There's definitely a lot of fun and hours to spend in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

A poor sequel to Tomb Raider 2013. TR 2013 achieved the same quality graphics with less strain on your graphic card. Story and challenges are poorly conceived, with bad physics.

I don't understand one thing - If Uncharted 4 is 93, how come this is 86? I really don't get it. It starts to get repetitive in the second open area, collectibles are completely worthless and they're in every corner, so if you want co collect them, you have to stop 100 times even during the main story missions in every single linear corridor (which btw each mission is). Other than that, graphics are really nice, but the problem is that nice graphics cannot fix something with cliché in every dialogue and mediocrity written all over the gameplay and story. Only starting gamers and people blinded by the graphics can appreciate a game like this, for me it felt like just some unsatisfying lite version of Uncharted and a waste of time, when I finally got to that stereotypical cliffhanger at the end. I'd just like to first say how much I love the voice actress of Lara, she does an incredible job of bringing her to life and honestly she's a big reason as to why I've enjoyed the last two games so much, she really does knock it out of the park and she's not alone, the voice work across the board was solid apart from Jonah who I personally didn't like. The story itself was also interestingI'd just like to first say how much I love the voice actress of Lara, she does an incredible job of bringing her to life and honestly she's a big reason as to why I've enjoyed the last two games so much, she really does knock it out of the park and she's not alone, the voice work across the board was solid apart from Jonah who I personally didn't like. The story itself was also interesting and kept me engaged and didn't hold the voice actors back at all.

One of the games other big strengths is the climbing/platforming, I really feel it does this better than Uncharted mainly due to how many tools Lara has at her disposable, it was nice to see Uncharted 4 build upon their system by "stealing" the porous wall mechanic from Tomb Raider, it's a little thing but it adds a lot, and Rise has lots of these little mechanics that keep the gameplay fresh throughout. I would say Uncharted 4 definitely edged out Rise when it came to gunplay though, especially AI which was particularly awful in Rise, I was only playing on normal difficulty so maybe it's better on higher difficulties, but the enemies would just stand there after a friend had been headshot with their hand in the air while I primed another arrow which was really silly. Another area I felt UC4 edged out Rise was "epic moments", these set pieces are often my favourite things about both series and Rise just didn't have any, it had some cool moments but nothing truly wow, the Definitive Edition definitely had its moments and I was waiting for Rise to have its all the way until the end but it never came.

My biggest annoyance personally was performance though, this is the first game where I really struggled to maintain 1080p/60fps without drops, having to drop to the medium preset with 16x AF and high detail being the only variance from the preset. The game started off great, no performance issues at all on very high settings but it got worse and worse as the game went on, especially any zone outside just tanked the frame rate on higher settings. And the weird thing about it was most of the time nothing was happening, it was just running through the world or even just panning the camera. I'm running a 3570k @ 4.3GHz, MSI GTX 970 4G heavily overclocked, 8GB DDR3, SSD on Windows 10, this machine runs Witcher 3 at 1080p/60 without a dropped frame on a mix of high/ultra so I really feel it's an optimisation issue more so than a lack of power on my part. I really didn't like having to dumb down the graphics but performance is always my priority, I just don't usually have to sacrifice so much to achieve it (I really missed having Purehair enabled which looked great compared to Hairworks IMO).

Disgusting experience: a bad game scenario and, consequently, no story; boring gameplay; Some hideous physics objects, but in contrast, it is worth noting graphics, but it clearly does not cover the above-mentioned disadvantages.

I'll keep it short: Just as amazing as the first. Beautiful, well paced, story-driven plot, great voice acting, excellent weapon system, controls, etc. There are a few things that annoyed me but they are so insignificant compared to the awesomeness of this masterpiece. 9.5/10.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a worthy follow up to the 2013 reboot. This sequel sees Lara setting off on another adventure to stop an evil organization from getting their hands on a powerful artifact. This is the Lara we have been waiting to see. This sequel sees Lara setting off on another adventure to stop an evil organization from getting their hands on a powerful artifact. This is the Lara we have been waiting to see. She is stronger and more independent building off the experiences she had in the previous game. The sequel does a good job of expanding upon Lara's abilities and skills. You have your complement of weapons from the first game that can be upgraded finding salvage. You also can craft new weapons by finding weapon parts. There are plenty of collectibles and relics to find.

The most notable and appreciated addition to the game is the number of tombs. Crystal Dynamics have made good on the criticism of the lack of tombs in the 2013 game. These tombs are entirely optional though they do offer some unique new skills for Lara to use. The Tombs themselves are fairly straightforward and only offer a mild challenge. Many of the puzzles aren't particularly difficult which is a bit of a disappointment.

I also find myself wishing the game wasn't quite so linear. This is compounded by the fact that it seems like the devs felt it was necessary to put white paint on climbable surfaces. Fortunately there are challenges and side missions that can offer some deviation. The other thing I find irritating is that sometimes the map is sluggish to reload.

In terms of graphical fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the best looking games on the market today. Nixxes once again shows that they are capable of making a competent PC port. In fact to call it a port isn't doing the game justice. There has been considerable effort made to make the PC version feel like a proper PC release. PC users can enjoy a variety of options like sun soft shadows, HBAO+, Purehair, and high resolution textures. It needs to be said that this game is very pretty and as such it can be quite demanding.

You will need at least 4gb of Vram to use Very High textures. The game also seems to be CPU intensive so folks with older i3's may find some difficulty. You will also want to make sure you have at least 8gb of ram. I run the game on a modest GTX 750 ti with 2gb of GDDR5 vram. I also run the game on an i5 with 8gb of total ram. Due to my vram I had to turn texture resolution down to medium. Prior to the latest patch I experienced some stuttering in certain areas. After the recent patch those instances haven't been as common. I run the game at 1050p so be mindful that it will be difficult to hit 60 fps at 1080 unless you have a high end GPU. Dropping your resolution to 900 or even 720p may yield a higher more consistent frame rate. Load times will also be a bit longer if your using a mechanical drive instead of a SSD. I highly recommend this game if you enjoyed the 2013 reboot. But be mindful of your system specs and that you may need to do a bit of tweaking to get an optimal experience.

Unlike everyone else complaining about the story being linear though....what do they think Mass Effect, Black Ops, Dead Space, Doom, Uncharted, Halo, and almost every other game like this is? LINEAR!! It is a story based game because there is a story to tell! You don't get to choose how the story goes...you want that, go back to playing Knights of the Old Republic..

This game brought new twists into the game play while keeping it as similar as possible as the previous game so as not to confuse the hell out of everyone by having to remap entire control systems (looking DIRECTLY at you Assassin's Creed). Adding in the ability to craft ammo and grenades on the fly was extremely smart and made sense in the greater scheme.

Truly the only thing I ever dreaded were QTE's...which thankfully were eliminated for the most part unless you got careless and let a wolf or bear get on top of you. Otherwise, everything about this game is just solid from top to bottom.

Rewards are nice too...like all the interesting outfits that came with stat bonuses, and multiple types of weapons in each class to get and upgrade. Most people still focused on the bow, while I still loved my assault rifle oh so very much.

Overall, this is a great game you can definitely play many times to see how many ways you can beat the game, go for all the achievements, or be a completionist like me and try to get all treasures, relics, and story related items to 100% on the first go.

I know I played the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider for months over and over, and I don't see this being any different.

    Pros:
++ really amazing and scalable graphics
++ better "optional tombs" than in previous Tomb Raider
++ breathtaking views of nature and temples

    Cons:
-- flat story and characters: good guy was only good guy, bad guy was bad guy, there was no surprise in any way like in "B movie", the storyline didn't have any "wow" effect, every plot twist was foreseeable
-- dozens of same enemies is pure boredom in 2016, Tomb Raider is not Doom, it's not about quantity of enemies. Lara should have very low ammo whole game and I should think in every case, how to deal with particular enemy (in the similar way like it is in Alien:Isolation for example). This approach makes enemies more unique even when they are of the same type
-- unrealistic in every possible way (Lara movements, story, enemies, environment...). Good games are unrealistic only in some parts, but this is usually balanced with strict realism in others parts (e.g. Stalker had unrealistic story and enemies, but very realistic weapons, characters behavior and buildings environment)

    2. Buggy Tomb: One of the optional tombs appears to be broken due to a physics bug that does not allow you to climb to a certain space to continue. Thankfully, I was able to escape the tomb, but was not able to complete it.

    3. Lack of death scenes: I may be one for the few that enjoyed the harsh death scens of the previous game. Now everything just fades to black, and there is no dramatic end to Lara's life. I used to want to be careful, so as to not witness the jarring horrible death scenes, but now, I am no longer careful. I simply jump towards places I know I can't reach; attack bears I know I can't beat, etc.

    4. Too easy: The puzzles are far too easy.

The game has many more positives than negatives. The graphics, the raiding of the tombs, the satisfaction of killing someone with your axe and stealth gameplay to name a few.

Beautifully rendered Lara is a bit callow, but with the jumping abilities of a ninja with an Kalashnikov. The funny thing is every place she explores seems to be on the brink of collapse for over a thousand years until she shows up and ropes up the right arrow and trashes the place. Lara's world is full of guns that require 5-10 bullets to kill a person, and she's always up for relaxing near a fireplace where she makes weapons and ammo out of deer skin and junk even while there's an urgent situation and a shortage of time. Combat in this game is better experienced in stealth mode, but no worries if your enemies catch sight of you and punch a few holes in your head--a few herbs will fix that right up. The puzzles are usually a good break from combat, but occasionally they feel contrived: want to burn that ice barrier? Your napalm arrows are useless, but kicking it with your feet will work!

Now for the story: it's good as games go, but sometimes the character twists feel contrived, and the B aspect is predictable and the story will be the same the second playthrough.

I don't know how to rate this game because I had no expectations. I've never played a Tomb Raider before. So, I'll go with the flow. 8/10 it is.

To be honest, I think The Wticher 3 should've won the award for best story but with Rise of Tomb Raider taking the nod, isn't so bad either. The game has gorgeous visuals and graphics. Just be careful with the texture settings, anything higher than high requires a video card with more than 4gb vram or you'll get massive stuttering. There's a ton of things to do in the game aside from the main missions. Although I skipped a lot, the game finds way to keep you busy with all the challenges and activities you can do. One of the downsides is the enemy's AI which is pretty weak. Another downside, despite the fantastic graphics, Crystal Dynamics recycled a lot of the same structures in the game such as narrow pathways in a cave that use the same animation over again. I know it's a little nitpicky but you notice these things too easily.

As in previous Tomb Raider games, the puzzles in this game are fairly easy. Pretty much straightforward. I wished they would've given a little bit more variety in Lara's arsenal. The selection feels limited although the upgrades are nice. I would've given this game a 10 rating but needed to knock off a point due to the use of Denuvo. I believe that speaks for itself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was almost convinced: this is one of the few games that I like to give a 10.
    But then the end happened.

Rise of the Tomb Raider(Rise for short) has Lara follow the same path she followed in the 2013 reboot. She gets dumped in a wilderness with nothing more than a makeshift bow to start out with. With meager resources you help her survive cold and hunger and make her way forward for the sake of curiosity and redemption. For those are Lara's primary motivations: to discover secrets out there that can benefit the world. (Lara actually has the well being of humanity on her mind: make a note of that) and to redeem her disgraced father who was bold enough to assert that there was a thing out there that gave life eternal. And the scientists, being the jerks they are, banned him for it, cause hat is how the coven of scientists operate of course: if you are not for us, you are against us. Disgraced, father Croft killed himself. Or so we are told.

So Lara sets out to vindicate her father, and her own name, by finding that divine source located in a lost city in the outback. This time around her boots take us to Siberia, after a little detour to Syria for the trail she follows starts with a prophet who preached his brand of Christianity in those regions around the 10th century AD in a country people nowadays mostly recall for the headlines: it is that place where everyone is fighting and bombing everyone because of reasons..

Now it is time for the Illuminati to step in, but since that trope has been beaten to death for far too often(for instance in the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) they renamed the nefarious organisation to Trinity and make them out to be a band of religious fanatics, of the christian kind to be on the safe side.

The evil boss is a guy named Konstantin who does evil because of reasons. Embrace the suffering, he whispers to one of his minions who has failed him, while he pushes his fingers into his victims eye sockets. He is connected to Ana, who is Lara's stepmother. Since we all know how stepmothers are, we know that it is just a matter of time before the proverbial poisonous apple surfaces and the hunter will be sent after the princess: treason. And so the story proceeds along a beaten track..

The real gem in the game is really Lara herself. She is so well done and so believable that you suffer through the story just to see what she will do next, what she will discover next and how she will develop next. You get to steer Lara through the world, unearthing treasure, solving puzzles, seeing marvelous sights, stalking wildlife and humans alike. And the game underscores this all with good music most of the time.

But then, in the end, the makers of this game get a brain seizure and trample over Lara's personality and motivations. They make her conclude that some things are not meant for humanity and have her reject to benefit mankind or to redeem her father's reputation.
    Why?
    Because of reasons.
There could have been many reasons to destroy the big secret but now Lara is set up as judge and jury over mankind. Humans are not meant to live forever, she says suddenly. How she got from "unearthing secrets to benefit mankind" to "it is not meant for mankind" is not made clear. It just happens.
This is called poor writing: having a character make a decision that isn't worked towards in the story line. This is the deus ex machina of decision making.
    But there is more.
In the epilogue yet another another u-turn is made for we are blatantly told next that discovering stuff for the benefit of humanity is what motivates Lara. Hold on. Did she not just destroy something that would benefit mankind because she was of the opinion that it wasn't meant for it mankind? How did she get from a to b and then back from b to a?

This flip flopping of Lara's personality takes the whole experience down several notches for the end apparently did nothing to her personality. In other words: she went through some kind of personality change instantly and reverted back instantly. What is it that has risen in Rise of the Tombraider?

My 10 thus dropped to a 7. It is a captivating game at first, but has a seriously broken character development. And the latter is something mankind can do without.

This is rare for me, as I often lose interest after main story is completed. I hope for alot of DLC maybe even expansions. I did not get the Season Pass yet.

    - Those 13 hours felt kinda short to me
    - The riddles are easy to solve, especially when you press Q
    - My recommendation is to play this game with with high settings or higher, therefore you need atleast a GTX770/960 overclocked to play at a minimum of 40 fps! You can do it at medium settings, but you won't enjoy the game like it is supposed to. Keep this in mind, it is a very heavy game.

The reboot was great, and this sequel still is good, but it is dangerously loosing it's drive.
Story is just barely ok, nothing more. Gameplay is good and fun, but hardly any suprises and little variation. Stealth is only occasionally possible. Game looks nice, with pretty effects, but ... almost no change of ice and snow scenery, no variation in enemies and ... maybe it's not the most

There is nothing really new here, which is ok, but it really feels to casual. Played it on the hardest difficulty Survival mode and it still was, except maybe a handful encounters, just easy.
To diminish the difficulty even more, almost all puzzles are in optional tombs, which can be solved in a few minutes. I remember the hunting for collectibles as more fun in the previous installation.

I would still recommend it, but don't expect a revolution. I hope they cut down on playing it safe for the next episode.

Poison arrows can stealth kill 4-5 enemies at one go, and you get those very early in the game. You also get hold of some bomb arrows later in the game, which means that your selection of weapons are more or less down to 2; Bow or shotgun on close encounter. But that being said, the game offers some good entertainment and you actually feel like a tomb raider at times, when you're off into one of the optional tombs, trying to figure out what story lies behind it.

Anyway now that is out the way this game is an improvement on every aspect of the Tomb Raider that came out back in 2013 Lara looks stunning almost life like the cut scenes grab you and the bad guys want to make you dislike them from the moment you meet them.

The game also has hours of replay value if your a completionist like myself there is plenty of collectibles to find plenty of caches to search for plenty of monoliths to read and lots of lore the challenge tombs are there and are worth doing because they give you handy little bonuses i just feel as though there could of been a few more tombs to do throughout the game.

The puzzles are there to but mainly in the challenge tombs there is maybe one or two in the main story to complete and i feel there could have been a few more as puzzles for me is a huge plus in Tomb Raider.

I would certainly say go and get a copy of this game it is worth every penny you pay for it and the hours if fun you'll get from it.

Ok, so Lara is a murdering, antiquity vandalising, endangered species killing, manipulative, sociopathic thief with an inhuman ability to survive frequent plunges into near freezing cold water. She single handedly causes more damage than the combined efforts of a small invasion force without once loosing control of her perfectly rendered hair. Aside from that, this is brilliant fun!

However, despite these improvements, I still have some complaints. The puzzles didn't really seem that challenging, and the combat can be a mess at some times. Also, i'm playing the PC version of the game; and compared to the Xbox One version of the game, the PC port is poorly done; having some FPS drops during cutscenes. However, despite some technical issues and minor annoyances, I enjoyed this game; it's not worth buying an Xbox One for, but it's still very good.

Rise of the Tomb Raider gets an 8/10.

Tomb Raider 2013 was one of my favourite games in recent years. So I was looking toward this with great anticipation. If they had just done more of the same, I would've been happy.
Oh boy, not only did they delivered all that was great about TR2013, but they have also expanded and reworked so much of the game that it feels like proper progression of the gameplay.

The crafting system has been expanded and the tombs now feel like proper puzzles (although nowhere near as hard as the original in 1996). The graphics have been reworked and Laura looks AMAZING.
Unfortunately there are some optimisation issues. The Anisotropic filtering takes a lot of horsepower (yeah, it's like 1999 all over again!) and the shadows are a blocky mess and they have a massive impact on performance. Regardless, it looks beautiful.

If anything, I felt that ROTTR could use a bit more content, but that's more to do with the fact that I just want to keep playing this forever rather than a lack of content.

    Recommended with rainbows and fireworks.

Gorgeous Game just like the Game before. Nice graphics but still several performance issues. Can't say much since it's an must have (not must buy), get a friend to steam family share the Game with you and check google for an offline crack (revolt). Paying money for denuvo protected Games is basically the same as burning your money.

The best looking and the most linear game I've ever played. If the developer doesn't want you to throw a Molotov at that thug, it will bounce harmlessly off. The melee combat is bad and feels really clunky. It makes Assassins Creed look like Batman Arkham City. Ammo is lying around everywhere so you can pretty much just shoot your way in anywhere and not worry about running out of ammo. The best looking and the most linear game I've ever played. The puzzles aren't good either. The gun customization system is good and it's pretty exciting discovering new weapon parts. The story is also pretty good, but overall I was pretty disappointed with this game. Expand

Instead of taking the approach used in Tomb Raider 9, Rise of the Tomb Raider turns out quite different in almost every way. Somehow this isn't without a downside.

Instead of taking the approach used in Tomb Raider 9, Rise of the Tomb Raider turns out quite different in almost every way. Somehow this isn't without a downside.

The combat has been drastically changed, straying from the guerrilla combat that was widely found favorable in the predecessor. Instead, most fights in Rise happen in a small alley and tends to dip you in a linear environment without as many covers as in TR9, especially the scene after Lara obtains her shotgun. For some more open combats, they mostly happen in restricted corridors with regularly-shaped construction and often symmetrically placed covers. Due to the new AI configuration that encourages the enemies to move in on you rather than stay behind a cover, you often find yourself overwhelmed by the heavily armored soldiers that are hard to kill with a few bullets. And sometimes the lack of covers or the lack of variety thereof cause a great deal of troubles in the attempts to flank, and because of the same reason you need to shoot more to win instead of using tactics. There are also many occasions where your aiming doesn't automatically fall on the correct side when you pop out from behind the cover, which was never a problem in TR9. Hence, the combat is rather disappointing at times.

Another obvious change is that Rise is more RPG-oriented than ever before, and it is best evidenced through its many side quests, which unfortunately require the player to make many a back-tracking, which for sure gets boring over time, as you'll find yourself going along the same path as you did in a previous side quest or a main quest, and the difference is that this time you won't fight enemies along the way.

The tombs are definitely a delightful comeback, but most of them are too simple to solve, as the puzzles either revolve around gravity or water physics, and there are rarely any thoughts out of the box. But aesthetically, they look excessively amazing and are absolutely among the most atmospheric tombs in the history of this franchise, but sadly the puzzles don't prove equal to the visual quality. Most of the tombs can be finished in less than 10 minutes, and the solution is often comprised of one single step.

When it comes to storytelling, this time it's been much of an improvement thanks to the more cinematic style delivered under the new powerful engine, but the story arc of Lara herself is much weaker than in TR9. Apart from her, other characters are just forgettable. The story itself doesn't have many twists, but is brimming with overreaching backstories that could be nuisances in fits and starts.

Despite all the weak points, Rise is an ambitious title which pays tribute to a lot of classic Tomb Raider games. Moments such as the fragile floor trips in certain tombs and Lara climbing in the ice cavern are conspicuously reminiscent of the similar sequences encountered in old installments. By and large, with good intention, the game hasn't been quite well executed, despite the conscientious efforts in graphics and music.

The denouement is a cliffhanger that secures a room for the sequel in future, which ends flat in its own right. Nevertheless, suffering from a slow pace is the culprit for the dissatisfying experience in addition to the unwise gameplay mechanics. Still, it doesn't kill the hope for next Tomb Raider to be a true improvement, and every fan of the series will sure look forward to that.

    Somewhere between good and mediocre.
The graphics are good, I'll give them that. And if at first the game seemed to lag and the fps was a little uneven, the first patch for the game which came out a week after the release fixed most problems.

The gameplay is decent, nothing really new or innovative, but everything works. Stealth is done pretty well, even though there are some situations where it's almost impossible to take out the enemies by stealth alone.
And then there's the story. The story is not nearly as interesting or captivating as I'd expected it. A lot of illogical actions take place and at times the dialogue seems lacking any substance, despite the good voice acting. There are a few plots but nothing very deep or surprising.
Although the game is not short by any standard, it gets boring really fast mainly because there really are only 2 themes present in it: ancient Greek ruins, and frozen tundra/wasteland. A few colorful tombs here and there but nothing memorable. The puzzles aren't hard, but not very satisfying either.
No real replay value except for the achievements.
In any case, it's a game worth playing, and I am looking forward to the next one in the coming series. I think there is a lot of room for improvement, and I'd like to see how the series evolves.

Amazing game. Smooth, varied gameplay. Hugely entertaining shootouts. Fun puzzles at the tombs. Amazing graphics. Pretty good story and mythology. An open world worth exploring. It's one for the best action games ever made

You're gonna love this one, it's better than Tomb Raider 2013 and the PC port is quite good after the release of drivers from AMD and NVIDIA. Great storyline and exploration make this an excellent buy for the price.
Here's a pretty good deal, if you want to get it cheaper than Steam http://bit.ly/1P4BEyc

Good game, bad port. Performance on my (fully updated) system (4790k, 16g ram, 780 ti, w10) is subpar. With high textures, FXAA, and everything else maxed, the game hovers around the high 30's FPS. Unfortunately, lowering the settings doesn't do much. At this point, the game looks a bit worse than the Xbox One version, which I have played. It's not acceptable for such a system to barely be able to keep up with the Xbox One. That's nonsense.

Other than that, it's a great game, and an improvement on the previous one. Just be aware that if you don't have a 1500$+ system, you're probably going to have a bad time.

NOTE: Since the game hasn't been cracked, if you're thinking about buying it to see how it runs and then refunding if you are not happy, DON'T be fooled by how well the game runs on the initial snowy zones (like many people who make "port reports" have done). It's in the later areas that the framerate tanks to oblivion.

This game is incredible. If you enjoyed the last one you'll enjoy this one without a doubt. I had expectations for the reboot and it blew me away, and high expectations for this one which was exceeded. Only gripes I had were some story elements (No spoiler, but important events happened at all too convenient times) and minor wonkiness with some controls.
