This game is simply not done yet and it's a shame because it has a really big potential to be a great and different multiplayer fps. It's impossible to ignore all the various small bugs and laggy gameplay that completely ruin the gameplay. Don't buy this game today but wait instead and read the forums to see if or when they have made the game playable.

The game is too bugged so I can't give a full ten to this, but I can't wait how this game will turn out in future. And I thought WWII was old news... bah!

Pings on 64 player servers are rarely below 150 and often spike up to 400+. This renders the game unplayable for me. I'm forced to join low player servers (32-24) which rarely have over 10 people in them. Also, some of the objects used for cover cause you to glitch up and down rapidly or fall through the map, adding to the atmosphere of bug-filled mess. After multiplayer frustration, decided to take a break and play singleplayer. While there is no real singleplayer (basically multiplayer maps with a slight intro and against bots), I found it fun and intuitive, a nice break from multiplayer. The AI seems smart, but is pretty stupid on normal. They take way too long to aim at you and often times miss every shot. You can play entire levels easily without ever dieing. The other main gripe I had about the AI is that they rarely fire when not behind cover (I don't even think I have seen one hipfire). Instead they seem to follow certain paths (especially indoors) and will melee any enemy they come across instead of firing their weapon. I am currently stuck on the Axis campaign due to a bug that won't allow me to progress any further. I already took a break from a game that came out 4 days ago, and my break started yesterday. That in itself shows how frustratingly broken this game can be. Expand

It is in it's own class when it comes to historical accuracy. If the hitcode straight from the 90s doesn't impress you, the way the game runs like you are on a Pentium 2 certainly will. As far as WW2 accuracy it kind of fails, in that Germans are handed out extremely rare prototype weapons like candy, and all the maps favor that particular side. It's as if someone designing the game has struggled with their impartiality when they looked at the two warring nations. As if they wish history would rewrite itself based on what happens in a given game of RO2.

"Singleplayer" is just mindless bots and shouldn't exist. The game is half finished, if that, in just about any area. And most of all, it's just not fun. There isn't an endearing game underneath all the broken issues, just an uninspired semi realistic WW2 shooter. Any given multiplayer WW2 game outshines it in that department, and any realism shooter out-reals it.

Give this stinker a wide berth.

I enjoyed how the mechanics worked in the single player campaign. The mechanics, without giving anything away, allow for full immersion into the perspective of a soldier, where: you are terrified, you are going to think tactically, and you are going to struggle to capture a location. Tripwire also did a wonderful job with making the game only cost around $30 if you already owned Red Orchestra 1 in the pre-order, and then $40 as the normal game's cost. The polygon counts are high, the game is beautiful, the combat features are vast and plentiful, the game has girth to it that every other FPS seems to lack. Expand

Was a part of the beta of the Digital Deluxe Edition and I have to say the final product on release day performs and looks worse than the beta. Extremely poor performance and catastrophic balance problems. Also the game devs frequently argue with community members on forums and delete criticizing posts and lock threads which contain criticism.

I appreciate that Tripwire apparently has a history of good patching but since when has it been acceptable to release a game with the argument that "It's okay, we'll patch the bugs later". As it is I wish they'd used the time in beta more productively and delayed the launch until the game was in a more polished state. The game itself when I have gotten to play it? Seemed ok. Nothing amazing, certainly nothing worthy of a 10/10 mark. I mean, I had fun an' all. To Bobthebuilder19:
"Game is clunky." (upgrade system or wait for patch!) "action key bound to many things." (remap them to seperate keys!)
"hit detection all over" (realistic bullet drop!)
"hits register after you die" (server side feature to prevent unrealistically knowing you got kill you didn't see!) This game ROCKS, people that can't handle more realistic options need to go back to Halo.

Being a RO1 player, I enjoyed the RO2 improvements to infantry combat (long range combat is less frustrating, I like how you need to manually zero in your sights if you want to hit targets past 100m) and the that movement system is overall less clunky. There were some things I didn't like about the game that aren't caused by bugs, such as killcams (almost every server has them enabled),Being a RO1 player, I enjoyed the RO2 improvements to infantry combat (long range combat is less frustrating, I like how you need to manually zero in your sights if you want to hit targets past 100m) and the that movement system is overall less clunky. There were some things I didn't like about the game that aren't caused by bugs, such as killcams (almost every server has them enabled), and the idea that the devs combined a cover/use/give ammo command into one universal command; it was unclear to me that the cover button doubled as the use key until I learned it myself, with no proper documentation (no game manual).

In terms of visuals it might look average compared to other UE3 games like Bulletstorm, but remember that RO2 levels are extremely large with large view distances that can support up to 64 player tank + infantry battles. In that regard, it's relatively good and plus the atmosphere that's conveyed through the visuals is depressingly realistic. It also runs well on my PC on Ultra settings at around 40-70 fps which is good. Sound design is also excellent, guns sound like their real life equivalent and the music sets a great mood although I wish there was a checkbox to disable it (atm you need to manually set the music volume to 0)

Now, by this time many people now about the game's extremely buggy release and have refunded their purchase as a result; that was a poor decision since Tripwire is known for delivering quality, consistent FREE patches and updates that not only fix most of the glitches or bug, but they add upon the gameplay (see killing floor for an example). And as for the day 1 unlocks not working, they obviously didn't want that to happen and it was a bug that no one could expect; Tripwire didn't lie to the consumer on that because they didn't expect the unlocks to bug up. The only real bugs I get annoyed with are related to stat tracking (some servers track your stats, some don't) and the bug that doesn't let you fire your bolt action rifle when you zoom in initially.

Overall this is a good game that suffered an unfortunate buggy release (like Bad Company 2 and Black Ops on PC). If you like relatively hardcore shooters and have the patience to wait for Tripwire to fix the glaring bugs affecting gameplay (they already are releasing a patch which will fix a good deal of the current crash bugs) you should get this game. RO2 requires some patience and learning so don't just drop the game if you find it frustrating. This game will definitely shine in the future, once the free content patches and various mods flood in for it. For those of you wondering about my specs, I have: i5-760 2.8ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram, EVGA GeForce 460SE 1024mb with the beta 280.19 drivers running at ultra detail in 1680x1050.

That is this games crowning achievement, make you feel like your in a dirty war with death all around you. Sounds are amazing and really pull you in. Graphics are good, and game-play is spot on(if you like this type of slower pace battles). 64 player servers are truly epic as well and pull you into this is war even more. There are a few bugs on release which can be a pain. But then again almost all games do so Im not about to give it a zero because of it. I believe tripwire has a great track record of fixing these things so I'm just taking off a point for that. Bottom line your either this type of player or not. The game is buggy. It has crashed several times on me, and kept Steam (arghh... Steam) crashing alongside.

The game is buggy. It has crashed several times on me, and kept Steam (arghh... Steam) crashing alongside. However, this happened never during actual gameplay. Sometimes the servers do not refresh and you have to exit the game. The performance on my high end setup runs great on high, a bit stuttery on ultra even though I can run most games on highest with no problems. This one is a bit of a wild card in terms of performance. The graphics, while a lot of people say...suck, are not terrible at all. It's not a great looking game by any means, but a decent looking game it is. Reminds me of Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway mixed with COD2 and BF2. Single player does look better than MP for sure. Speaking of SP, not much to say about it. It's plain. Uninspiring. Typical. Dead A.I. pretty much sums it up.
Multiplayer is why you most likely got this game. And it's different. For those who never played Red Orchestra this is going to be a tough pill to swallow if you're used to Modern Warfare. The game is very tactical, brutal, and punishing. It's also rewarding. The weapons do plenty of damage, even though I question some of the recoil from semi-automatic rifles and assault weapons. It's pretty much one shot kill. The maps are large and with plenty of buildings and rooms to go into, but fall flat in design and character. They feel like they were made by modders not something that was shipped on shelves. But the gameplay is rock solid if a little buggy. Some adjustment to sensitivity and you are all set. It's a fun game when you enter a lag free server. Do find those, trust me. I love how when you crouch behind cover you don't have to stand up to aim. You just aim and you'll automatically pop up a little bit. Or you can use the cover system. It's a great choice. I also love how easy it is to strafe, and the animation is great from your perspective ... not so much from others. Overall give this game a buy if you like a more difficult, rewarding FPS that is pure PC. It does have bugs, and it's not perfect, nor the prettiest, but if you like the first one of more of a COD4 style S&D gameplay, this is a solid buy, bugs and everything. Just don't expect it to blow you away.

    Solid 7.5 out of 10.

Tired of your Call of Duties? Had enough of Bad Company? If so then it's understandable that you're looking at purchasing RO2. But before you do, please consider this: No matter how good the core of a game is, if it's so buggy and clumsy that it makes it difficult for you to get any enjoyment out of playing it whatsoever, would you want to blow your hard earned readies on it? Probably not.

I shall explain. What drew me to Red Orchestra was the 'realism' tag that everyone associated with the game is tagging it with. It has a cover system, you can blind fire around corners, go prone, drive a tank with other people, kill people in one shot. In theory it sounds fantastic, but in practice it could not have been implemented any worse than it has been. The cover system is clunky and more often than not will actually aid your enemies in killing you. I spent hours wondering why as soon as I popped my head around a corner I would get shot by someone around the corner who could not have seen me unless he was endowed with x-ray vision. One of the biggest flaws is that of telling players apart. Fair enough, WW2 Russia was drab, burning buildings providing the only colour against a bleak, snowy landscape. But when you cannot tell your team mates apart, especially at a distance expect a lot of team kills (the decision not to include a visual tagging aid to distinguish who is who is baffling, realism or no). This in itself is poor, but when there is an option to punish accidental team killing implemented it further detracts from the game. It makes me wonder just how much thought went into the design process with silly mechanics such as this. Another thing that didn't help the games plight is the horrendous lag on the bigger battles. I play with a fast connection but every battle that was 45 players and over tended to chug badly. The pings shoot up and it makes it unplayable. This is a server issue and can be fixed, but it's still a drawing point of the game and it never should have rolled out with such an unnecessary issue.

In the grand scheme of gaming, I've always thought that graphics are just a frivolous extra that should never take precedent over gameplay, but the player animations are noticeably awful and again, this helps to ruin what could have been a very different experience. The are a few good points however. The wealth of class options is fantastic and really caters for everyone. Want to play an Anti-Tank gunner? How about a Squad Leader or Commander? Well go right ahead. In the bigger battles when/if they fix the server load issues it could make for an incredibly varied and tense battle. I also love the ability to play from inside a tank as a driver, gunner, or the machine gunner. The community appears passionate about the game which will help to convince Tripwire to rectify the bugs. I also enjoyed some of the neat little quirks, such as having to change your barrel as a machine gunner if it overheats too much.

Overall, in the state that it's currently in I would advise everyone to look elsewhere for their WW2 kicks. The game promises realism and yet delivers frustration in large quantities. I hope that Tripwire rectify some of the issues with the game as it has the potential to be great. But as of this moment in time I do not believe it should have left alpha testing.

The game plays OK for me and it appears much better than the beta, however, some players cannot run it or it crashes during play, I don't have those problems so hopefully the devs are looking into it and will resolve those issues.

The maps are big compared to some other FPS games I've played, it's a very tactical game and requires a little thought before moving towards a position (Territory), running and gunning can and will get you killed very quickly.

I haven't tried all the weapons in the game yet but of those I have used they seem effective and do the job.

The best part of the game for me is atmosphere, the sound of a weapon in the distance or artillery raining down on my position is very good.

The game does have a few problems, cover/use/bandage assigned to 1 key needs to be changed, lockdown timer needs to go, that stops any kind of tactical play as the game then becomes a mad rush for the cap before the timer runs out, these are small things but some were mentioned during the beta and are still in the full release. I only hope that Tripwire are reading their forums and the Steam forums and taking the feedback from the players as a good thing, I want the game to be perfect and at the moment it isn't, some players do have major problems so hopefully they will be fixed.

I enjoy the game but the little irritating bugs, some mentioned above, stop me from giving the game a higher rating.

This game is flawless when it forces people to work together, and puts your shooter skills to the test. I like it very much, the fact that you don't have people spawning where ever they please quick scoping and firing from the hip like it's no trouble. The game was simply not designed to accommodate people who can't handle difficulty. Which is a very good thing, that way we'll always be up against skillful people who are very good at shooters, instead of having to deal with 90% noob's and waiting for that 10% group of skilled people. The only problem are yes, its bugs, and some of its annoying mechanics. The most of which piss me off would be that the muting players is seemingly broken, and the vote system is broken. Otherwise there really isn't much bad to be said about the game. It's a good challenging shooter, like no other. Expand

If anything, it's more approachable than the first game, despite being more complex (an achievement!), but the core gameplay remains the same: stay low, be keenly aware of your surroundings, and know when to rush and when to bunker up being solid cover.

This game is not easy, but the raw satisfaction of knowing that every weapon in the game can kill you with a well placed shot makes it "fair" for everyone: yes, a semi-auto rifle is "superior" to a bolt-action rifle, but if you learn how to shoot straight, you won't feel outgunned. There's enormous potential for self-improvement in this game, and it's multidimensional: it doesn't only involve getting kills.

A solid 9/10, despite some unavoidable bugs.

(NOTE: During the two weeks beta, the game was patched 3-5 times, and -a lot- of bugs were squashed. Plus, TWI has an excellent reputation of supporting their games (with free DLCs to boot!). so yeah, if you're hesitant you could wait... or since there's a practically limitless potential for self-improvement, you just might as well get it now ;) It's -very- playable, and loads of gritty fun. I'll be playing this for a long time to come).

The action is intense and out of panic in the middle of a tank bombardment and infantry invasion it happened that I have bayoneted my team mate... Sometimes I want to hide, want to survive don't care about objectives and take it personal with the bayonet on snipers and mindless grenade throwers. The feeling of immersion is there for sure. Sometimes you feel very little and vulnerable. Maybe a little less so than in the original with its very vast maps but still, the game gets to you. The only problem I have with the game are the aspects that it inherits from typical main straim FPS: spawn protection system, auto team balancing,.. for all those mechanics better solutions exist than the ones that have been implemented. Honestly I find the game mothering too much its players and restricting it. War is hell but stick to the rules and die a hero by the book type of thing. To bad the game does not offer full freedom for any strategy to intensify the real dirty war experience and let your instincts run free. I hope they make those configurable in server switches and network game browser filters.

There are (graphic) lag issues on 32-64 player servers. Turning down the graphics to high instead gave me 30 percent higher frame-rate up from a poor 20-25fps. Hope some future tweaking will bring further improvements. I don't doubt this game will be fully supported for many years to come, both by its community and Tripwire.
Red Orchestra 2 is a different league. For some there is no alternative.

For those who are reading to see what this is about, this is a game where there's no cross hair (and no, it doesn't mean the center of the screen is where you shoot), your gun moves independently on the screen so where it points is where the shot will go, there's no cone of spread. Realistically modelled ballistic with penetration system, a thorough display of firearm understanding (ability to switch to iron sight with sniper rifles, manual bolting a bolt action rifle, ability to dial range on weapons, and ability to perform tactical reload and press check to estimate ammo left in weapon) When you are hit, 7 times out of 10, you'll go down, same goes with the enemy.

This is a far more polished game than the first one was, however, the first game was an unpolished bus, this game is a more polished... bike? not sure if that metaphor even make sense but I hope it did. Anyone who's played the first game or claim that they do, shouldn't and wouldn't give a low score based on the release, TripWire's track record means you'll get atleast twice the content in a year's time, and it will continue to grow. Many of the original features have been taken out, but new ones added in, this feels more like a polished, little multiplayer game, than the previous, massive, unfinished (but ever changing/evolving) UT mod. Few changes though: We can no longer bail from a tank, or shoot weapons out of someone's hand. Maps are considerably smaller than the first game, so while you can dial your rifle's range up to 1500m, the maximum engage range is around 250m, everything is a lot more controlled, but not necessarily in a good way. One of the worst thing about the game, is the terribly voice acting, how hard is it to get a German and a Russian to voice in their native languages? With TripWire's massive German and Russian fanbase, I'm sure someone would love to volunteer to do it? Hope this would be addressed soon too. It's very annoying that many of the low reviews are from people who clearly are frustrated because of its completely unique game mechanics, and thereby sucking completely, or fanboys from other FPS games giving useless reviews to pull down the score.

Gameplay: unfortunately my computer does not cooperate with tripwire's multiplayer (not RO2 Specific) so all i have to go off of is the single player. Biggest concern is the action key is used for too many things. The game crashes at random times and my fps drops pretty low about every 30 minutes. Luckily it is for the PC and it is easily fixed with a patch. Looking back on tripwires track record this will be a very polished game within 3 months and may even outshine bigger titles like bf3. My specs - i7 @ 3.5, 260core216OC, 6 gigs, win7.

    -- The Good --

Graphics - 9 - Better than BC2 by far, but no where close as other PC specific titles. They have a very distinct feel stripped strait from the time period the game takes place in. The mood is dark and gritty as it should be and often times you will stop in combat to look at how much detail went into making each individual room look unique and authentic. For example I found a cellar on a map and it was detailed to the point of RPG type levels. I almost wanted to sit down at the desk and read the book near the lamp that gave off a nice warm glow while forgetting a battle for life and death was going on outside.

The lighting is probably the strong point with this game. Shadows are actual shadows and theirs no avoiding having to squint to figure out if that silhouette is an enemy in that dark corner.

After tweaking settings I'm able to get a stable 45+ with my rig and theirs no mouse lag like in other games even if you played at 30.

Game play - 9 - What else can be said about the game play other than it's as close to war as you might want to get. Each individual map supports new strategy when engaging your enemies whether that be close range or from a distance. You must master the class you pick in order to survive in the conditions presented to you and often times failure can be as exciting as victory. Choose the assault class and you need to be somewhat run and gun clearing out rooms and generally getting into the face of your enemy. Choose a class with bolt action and you're deadly at mid/high ranges and able to do deadly melee attacks with a bayonet if needed. Picking Support classes that use either MG's or Anti tank weaponry and you can now see how the strategy of the game unfolds. Nothing will ever be as fun as blowing up a tank who has killed 10 of your buddy's with some charges carefully placed as you run for cover.

Gun play is a huge selling point for this game and it shows. Weapons act just like they would in life, and the addition of free weapon movement and weapon collision with objects gives you a sense of depth other shooters don't have.

    - Sound -8- Not much to say other than it's good. Weapons seem a little week especially the MG and Mp40, but bolt action rifles sound amazing and blow your ears off. I don't really know much about weapon sounds but I suspect they do so I won't go into detail on this.

    - The Bad -

The game still crashes out for most people I know. I have experienced it many times myself but so far none since retail release (Crosses Fingers). Their are also many other bugs reported and people are generally having FPS issues on beast rigs.

Artillery strikes will end your good FPS until they subside. Good thing I'm hiding at that point anyways, but sometimes the frame stutter when it happens can ruin a combat situation.

Cover system while good in most situations can also get you killed. Once you learn how to work it however it becomes a valuable addition to your tactics (Blind firing around corners has saved me many times).

    The verdict?

It may not be everyone cup of tea, but by no means is this a "Bad" game. People may have issues with the bugs and performance but the core game play is rock solid and is easily one of the best shooters I have played in years.

The AI is ridiculously stupid, teammates standing in front of your gun constantly, enemy AI that have dead on aiming and melee timing or just so dumb they cover in the window next to you. In essence the singleplayer is just the same old MP maps with stupid bots. For the time it took for them to make this game I thought the singleplayer would have characters ect that you see in most singleplayer FPSs. Also the single player bugs suck as planes hovering like helicopters and tanks easily getting stuck and this is bad because unlike the first RO you can bail out of the tank unless the tank or you dies. Bugs, bugs bugs, can't prone here.. can't deploy mgs in bunkers or dug outs or areas suited for good MG positions. The cover system is completely useless. Also if you are hit and need to bandage yourself your character decides to go into cover instead of bandaging leading to your bleed out death. They should have separated the, bandage, use and cover buttons I mean... come on. Also the gun sounds in RO1 were way better. The granades sound like exploding baby powder and some of the guns sound like they are on silencers Ex:KAR98. Also the reloading animations are off. You fire 1 shot and reload 2 bullets into the chamber? The real gold in the game in the Multiplayer which the Title is highly renown for. Stick with it, because the Singlepalyer in embarrassingly bad. I really wanted to love this game i really did but i just can't. This is the game for them... but this game is terribly flawed and terrible looking. If they fixed all the bugs, maybe this game would be an 8/10 to those people only... because a game this bad looking is not 10/10 ever.

    Sever Browser is broken.

    The game is 2004-2006 looking.

By christmas this game will be fixed up and will make some people happy. But that time is not now. And do not even read all these 10/10 reviews. They are heavily biased.

This game has potential to be a fun to some, but they released a broken game. 10/10 reviewers should be ashamed for their lies. Nobody can honestly justify 10/10... unless your just some childish fanboy who wants to rip on the BF3/MW3 fans... and want people to believe this is in some way better because it fits their playing preference better.

If you're going to take any advice from these User Scores... Don't. Wait for a free weekend/guest pass, or wait for the Critics review this game. There is clearly a lot of bias going around here, but my advice is to not rush into buying this game.

However, it has been a rocky road to release and I suspect what will be an even rockier road to a stable release version. Despite being free from the pressures of an outside publisher and having the pleasure to set its own development cycle, Tripwire Interactive has somehow managed to shoot themselves in both feet.
Despite the successes of 'Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45' and 'Killing Floor', Tripwire still very much feel like an amateur game studio. The general lack of company structure and the lack of game release experience have led to a very poorly executed and managed beta.

The months that led up to release were plagued with serious performance issues, subsequently pushing the release date back by an entire fortnight and delaying the beta. Had the beta that was 'too buggy to release' been put out earlier, and communication between the developers and beta testers been better, release would have been much smoother.

Nevertheless, if you can somehow manage to figure out and get past many of the technical performance and optimisation issues the game feels and plays fantastically. At the very heart of Red Orchestra is the multiplayer and Tripwire have definitely delivered a solid multiplayer experience. The pace picks up a little compared to RO1, gone are the days of tediously long walks to objectives. The game has been made â

The game is playable but you'll scream at moments where your hit detection didn't read. -Poor customer support: Many player who bought the Deluxe Package did not receive it. These are player who give you $10 extra dollar for pretty much worthless item. The VIP to your game yet again...its a bug. There's no STICKY in the forums where they announce this. The gameplay is still essentially RO with some essential features added (bullet penetration, being able to dynamically take cover behind objects of any height, controllable breathing and zooming, etc.). In some details it has a little less of that RO feel, though - guns barely sway even when held unsupported, for example. Perhaps it's better overall this way, it's hard to judge these things without taking all other aspects of the game balance into consideration, but it takes some getting used to for an RO veteran. There are also some assorted bugs - problems with the server browser, sometimes I miss a respawn ingame, now and then I get a wierd bug where the gun won't fire on first click.. none of which stops me from enjoying the game, but these little annoyances make it less fun than it should be, they make it feel more like the beta of a great game than a great game's live release. As for performance, my new pc runs it smoothly on 'ultra' (i7 not overclocked yet, 2x 6950 1GB, 8GB ram). The game is also playable on my old xp machine with 'normal' graphics (core2duo 2.4ghz, radeon 3870 512MB, 2GB RAM). I don't doubt the people reporting performance problems, but for my part I have no complaints. All in all it's a 10/10 game being held back by some problems as mentioned above, it could use some patching (which I trust Tripwire to provide in due time), still a great game and an easy 8/10 in spite of that. Clearly Tripwire was in over there heads, and no amount of false 10 ratings here is going to save it from the truth, it is just plain bad. The graphics are ok, but shadows are yet to be optimized correctly. Physics are terrible, and dated. This is the Unreal 3 engine and, for whatever reason, they managed to fail on every level when it came to taking advantage of a proven engine. The sounds is great, but not a break-through in innovation and attention to detail. It is a World War II game, and it sounds like one, respectively.

The gameplay is as you would expect from a Red Orchestra game. The problem here is that Tripwire is attempting to implement features, such as a cover system, into the game that are simply broken and implemented incorrectly. It just looks out of place. Team work is limited, and unreliable. You simply can not expect everyone to be a mature adult when it comes to interacting with a simulation shooter.

The value is what I would include, to sum this up, as the compensating factor. Tripwire has promised free updates, and mod tool support. For this reason I see no way this game could completely fail. I would be hard pressed to say it can compete in the coming months with franchising giants like EA. Time will tell, and will be the ultimate saving grace for Red Orechestra 2. It is certainly not worth investing money into now.

The gunplay and firefights feel very physical. Having a keen eye and cultivated marksmanship skills are important aspects of not only your own survival, but that of your team as well. Kills are satisfying and feel well deserved.

This is a game for the patient and tactical player. It heavily favors someone who can recognize the best route to maneuver and achieve the superior position. This is for those who want to 'play war' in the most literal sense. The most deadly weapon is not a bullet, but teamwork.

At the time of release there are still some bugs remaining that I would classify as 'minor, momentary annoyance'-type, as opposed to glaring flaws. Tripwire has a reputation for superb post-release support,
free content updates plus very active communication with the community, and we will see if that continues to be true. I believe it will.

The graphics are very good but are not pushing the envelope. The textures are very high resolution; the models, props and structures are all modeled in a realistic fashion. The depth of field effects are good; subtle but present, not overdone. Extensive in-game graphics options help widen the range of hardware that can run it well and provide those with high-end hardware the means to get more out of their system.
Relatively easy config editing is also possible for very specific video/audio/gameplay tweaks.

The audio is one of the most impressive parts of 'Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad's repertoire. The positional audio is not just immersive, but vital to your situational awareness. Distant sounds are appropriately dampened, close sounds are easy to locate. All sounds are realistically effected by the environment.

'Red Orchestra 2' is THE game to get if you want: realistic weapon handling, realistic and complex wounding, emphasis on teamwork, strategy and skill, fully detailed and functional tank interiors, realistic tank armor and armament modeling and more..

This is NOT the game to get if you are looking for an easy-going casual shooter. "Run and gun" is not the name of the game (but can still be effective if you have surprise). Just one shot will kill you most of the time and you won't find any aids like crosshairs.

If you are looking for the things RO2 has to offer, it might just be one of the most innovative and brilliant shooters ever.

If your not playing on Ultra the game looks horrible but on Ultra it looks very presentable and better than COD.
Gameplay: Unforgiving. The game plays like older Tactical shooters the kind that went out of style when MW and it's many clones came into play. If you can stomach games like America Army, Ghost Recon, and Raven shield then this is the game for you. You need allot of patience to play this game as the learning curve is steep and the weapon balance is not even. The mp40 is so much better than all the other guns it's not even funny. I've done fine with the bolts but you can but zero effort into doing well with the mp40 and get about the same you would as your best bolt game.
Singleplayer: From what I played the singleplayer is just the multiplayer maps with AI teammates that you control. Its not overly exciting and not enough of a reason to get the game if your not going to play multiplayer.
Sound: This game has some of the best positional sound I've seen in awhile. You can use it to locate enemies and pinpoint were they are coming from. The music on the other hand just seems to get in the way of gameplay and even turning music down to min doesn't get rid of it.
Controls: If you don't like toggle well TWI just gives you big middle finger. They want this game to be as clumsy as possible to control and I almost wish it was a console port because at least then it wouldn't be has ham-fisted. You can edit the ini to allow for hold crouch and ADS but the latter is buggy.

What is more in SP battles looks identically as in BF1942, no tactics just rush on enemy positions. OK let's leave AI and focus on other things, for example terrain graphics, how awful they are. Anyone should see training and environment so old school but in wrong meaning of it like from an average game dating back to 2007-2008. Playing this game can lead to frustration when you cannot crouch in the open field, different action are associated with a single key thus causing you unable to perform desired action as it is usually the other one game unintended to perform. Its hard to say what took devs additional 14 days of polishing their product? Maybe it was even more crappier than 'release' product, or we are playing just paid beta, while devs are fixing errors? All faith is left for MP after few patches concerning on gameplay problems cause graphics won't be changed and SP will remain some kind of reincarnation of BF1942-style-crappy-ai. If someone is challenging whether to buy or not this product for SP I would not recommend to do it, for MP it could be playable but not now and buyer should wait for few weeks after mayor patch introduction or after certain bargain. Not recommended.

PS: I bought this product mainly for SP cause I don't have time for dozens of multiplayer matches thus score corresponds to 90% SP and 10% MP play. For standalone SP I would give 1.0 (BF1942 replay after 10 years) and for MP 6.0 so after quick counting its 1.5 - still 1.

Awesome game, can be a little tough when you first start, especially if you are used to a more "run 'n' gun" style of first-person shooters, but once you learn to slow down a little, and not rush into buildings etc. like a loony you will start raking in the kills. Killing is so very satisfying too, especially with a bolt-action rifle from 200m+, it gives me a little semi on.

If you liked games like the first Red Orchestra, ArmA series, or even games like Bad Company/CoD (hardcore mode), then you should love this game. If you can actually aim, you should love this game. If you are super cool (like me), you should also love this game.

I am not really into the whole WW2 thing, I prefer modern or futuristic weapons in games, but gee whizz this game is so much fun, sometimes I can even feel my heart beating and it makes me feel like a normal boy, along with my semi on.

The game has so much potential if only they got rid of some of the realistic aspects, like minor things eg put damn enemy tags into the game (only when pointed at). This whole game drives me crazy because 90 percent of the time you can never find anyone. Its a very strategic game, in the sense that you may sit behind a wall for 5 minutes waiting for the right time to move forward or peek. The game has so much potential if only they got rid of some of the realistic aspects, like minor things eg put damn enemy tags into the game (only when pointed at). This game is not for people who are looking for something slightly more realistic than BF3, is way over the top. Some maps are fun eg apartments but some make you want to break things due to the fact that they just encourage camping prone in a corner.

    Long Story Short
Get this game if you want something with a lot of features, slow paced, tactical, to play with mates. This game is not for someone who plays tactical but does'nt have the patience to hide all game.

Wimpy grandma's PCs need not apply here, the game's performance tweaks was changing, for better or worse, almost every other day for the beta and at release time its still not right. Yes the game crashes from time to time and on lower end PCs with low memory will crash more often than that. Yes sometimes your view occasionally flip out. Your bullets occasionally do not count. There's a plethora of UI bugs Etc etc. That doesn't matter. The game even in its "not quite done but here you can play anyways" state is absolutely fantastic. This is by far THE most realistic yet inviting first person shooter in every respect and steps up and improves greatly in its mechanics over the original Red Orchestra. Tripwire isn't EA. They don't ship the game and call it done and already stated that it's not done, there's more to add, and you'll get more (not even considering community content). But the ship date came around (after 5 years in development!) and this is what they have. Enjoy it. It's a multiplayer game, so enjoy its strengths, and enjoy the new bar for PC games. Expand

I cannot believe how bad this game. This game has the graphics of a 2004 game and the performance of a console port. Constant stuttering and do not even think of maxing it out, even on the highest spec systems. The gameplay is where they say this game shines, but they could not be more wrong. Gameplay is boring, dull and a huge bugfest. There is nowhere in the game that is a fun climax, it is just all a steady boring gameplay, where you will maybe shoot one person in 30 minutes. Save yourself the money and don't buy this game. I have never before seen a game so poorly optimized. I loved the original and can only pray that they fix this major issues, but on a modern computer with the best CPU's, GPU's, RAM out there, there is no excuse for how choppy the game is.

The game has incredible potential, but in it's current state it is not worth recommending. Buggy as hell, extremely poorly optimized.

It's going to be demolished by BF3 and MW3 when they come out if they don't fix their stuff...

Not a very fun game. Game is very clunky. The action key is bound to many different things. cover/bandage/pickup/use so when you're near two things that do the same thing you end up covering when trying to pickup a gun. Game is also laggy as get out with hit detection all over the place. Your hits will sometimes register after you die.

I give it a three - it's not the worst release this year, but it's certainly in the running.

If you don't care about quality, are a rebid WW II fan, and enjoy elitist communities, with developers that purge any negative commentary from their forums, this might be the game for you, otherwise, give it a pass.

A good game either admits it's a game and only includes realistic things as an afterthought after it's gotten all the fun stuff finished, or it doesn't admit it's a game and immerses you. Don't tell Red Orchestra 2 that it's a game. It is the very end of a spectrum. It's a window into WWII-era Russia you can only look through on your computer.

Although RO2 has some flaws it is indeed a nice change of pace. It is not a new genre to be sure, bu it is a new style of game-play that lends itself more to team play and taking objectives. It is in which teens with pwnage complexes or people that simply want the vanilla familiarity of COD can just go away and leave the real gaming to grown ups. And that is what makes RO2 good. It is in which teens with pwnage complexes or people that simply want the vanilla familiarity of COD can just go away and leave the real gaming to grown ups. And that is what makes RO2 good. It does not have the most up to date graphics, and it may still have an occasional bug, but what it doesn't do is reward players who only care about themselves and never help out the team. This is not a game in which you go around killing and killing and killing simply to have the best story of how you knifed someone or t-bagged your foe. The maps are huge and detailed. Of course some of the negative reviews fail to mention that little point. Or the 64 players, or the tight shooting, or the fact that the game can look very good with high settings, or the day one modding tools, or custom map making, or TWI being extremely responsive to the community and fixing problems quickly, or that we have true dedicated servers. RO2 is what PC games should be and certainly more brave than what large developers are willing to make these days. They are too afraid to kill their cash cows and so we get the same old garbage year after year and wonder why we are so bored of gaming. Hmm I wonder why that could be? No RO2 is not perfect, but it is very good and will get better for years to come. It as some room to improve and it will, but the only reason to give this game a 0 is if you are a ZERO. Expand

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is a refreshing change of pace for the FPS genre. It brings the genre back to it's 2000-2005 roots to the WW2 era, and merges it with today's technology to provide an authentic, immersive, beautiful experience. This game plays differently than your popular shooters like Call of Duty and Halo, so it's not for everyone. It's definitely catered to a more hardcore audience than most mainstream titles, but still offers game modes for gamers with all tastes. The combat in this game is fast paced, but realistic. There are minimal hud elements, like no crosshairs for instance. Weapon aiming is quite unique, too. Weapons don't shoot in the center of the screen, but rather the weapon moves with the mouse until you get closer to the edge of the screen, when your camera will shift. For anyone who's played the Arma series, the aiming is similar to that. Weapon and bullet physics are also very realistic. Firing SMGs in more than 4-5 round bursts will make it impossible to hit a target further than 40-50 meters away. The game also features a full ballistics simulation. Bullet drop and travel time must be taken into account when shooting.

The game features HUGE maps with up to 64 players. The vehicles in the game feature full 3d-modeled interiors, where players must realistically navigate the inside of the vehicle to move to each position. No more instantly teleporting from the driver seat to the machine gunner seat, for instance. Vehicles also feature realistic damage models. You can take out a tank's engine by hitting it with an armor piercing round, or even kill the gunner with a well placed shot to the gunner's seat, rendering the tank useless until another player takes over the position.

The graphics and sound design are all top notch in this game. The performance was a little shaky in the beta, but in just two weeks time they have greatly improved framerates and reduced lag. Red Orchestra 2 is a must have for anyone who is a fan of first person shooters who want a more authentic experience than mainstream shooters will give you. It is a game that game developers should take notes on when designing games in the future. Tripwire Interactive put a lot of hard work with limited resources into this game, and the result is something extraordinary.

The multiplayer of Red Orchestra 2 offers various interesting debate points about the realistic online shooter breed: praised by many, played by few. Forgetting some bugs and the (hopefully) soon to be addressed performance hiccups, Red Orchestra 2 is definitely an entertaining product that, online-wise, will guarantee months of brutal fun.

If you think both Battlefield and Call of Duty are too exaggerated and unrealistic, and feel Counter-Strike is too soft, Red Orchestra 2 might be the game for you. It doesn't appeal to us, though.
