The game is incredibly fun and different, the game really takes skill to play unlike other FPS games (COD). The game plays perfectly movement its smooth and not restrictive, the guns are realistic and have character. I could say lots more but other people have all put it in their reviews, if you are a PC gamer you should get this game i cannot recommend it enough. :)

Hmm... giving this game a score between 0 and 3 is an inexcusable insult to the developers who made this incredible game. Think it through before posting such venomous reviews guys and gals . At his point, the game isn't perfect, it has bugs, but the gameplay simply can't compare to anything else on the market (except the original Red Orchestra, which was awesome :D). If anything, it's more approachable than the first game, despite being more complex (an achievement!), but the core gameplay remains the same: stay low, be keenly aware of your surroundings, and know when to rush and when to bunker up being solid cover.

This game is not easy, but the raw satisfaction of knowing that every weapon in the game can kill you with a well placed shot makes it "fair" for everyone: yes, a semi-auto rifle is "superior" to a bolt-action rifle, but if you learn how to shoot straight, you won't feel outgunned. There's enormous potential for self-improvement in this game, and it's multidimensional: it doesn't only involve getting kills.

A solid 9/10, despite some unavoidable bugs.

(NOTE: During the two weeks beta, the game was patched 3-5 times, and -a lot- of bugs were squashed. Plus, TWI has an excellent reputation of supporting their games (with free DLCs to boot!). so yeah, if you're hesitant you could wait... or since there's a practically limitless potential for self-improvement, you just might as well get it now ;) It's -very- playable, and loads of gritty fun. I'll be playing this for a long time to come).

Honestly. This game has entered into the part of the gaming market which most games dare not venture into. Other than the few glitches and bugs in the A.I., RO2 has introduced us to this deadly page in human history with realism and graphics of no other game before. I have enjoyed the few hours of the single-player. And the multi-player is surely a 100x better.

On seeing the rating this game took, I was shocked as a 76/100 on steam for a game of such engineering deserves a hell'of'a'lot more. The main complaints such as the bugs/glitches can be easily fixed with patches, as we saw with Empire: Total War.

At the end of the day, RO2 is an amazing game. Try it and you'll understand. Oh and make sure the volume is turned on!

A lot of these reviews were from release day bugs. Most the problems are fixed now. The game is a highly realistic WWII FPS, and I love it. I bought exactly what I paid for. Plus, free DLC? Come on, what's not to love? Imagine if COD did that for you. It's brutal, and unforgiving. But oh so satisfying.

Basically this is a realistic shooter which has a nice learning curve. You will die, and die a lot...but this is not paintball, its war...and it feels like it. That is this games crowning achievement, make you feel like your in a dirty war with death all around you. Sounds are amazing and really pull you in. Graphics are good, and game-play is spot on(if you like this type of slower pace battles). 64 player servers are truly epic as well and pull you into this is war even more. There are a few bugs on release which can be a pain. But then again almost all games do so Im not about to give it a zero because of it. I believe tripwire has a great track record of fixing these things so I'm just taking off a point for that. Bottom line your either this type of player or not. If you don't like the realism you wont like RO2. However if you do like realism then this game was MADE for you.. I'm glad I am the latter because I'm in love and can't put this title down. The first week after release was hard going. An abundance of quality control issues reduced the experience and left one feeling that a couple more weeks on the Beta table wouldn't have gone a miss. I purposely missed out on the Beta because I wanted to play a more finely honed and complete game and felt a little disappointed at the final offering. However, I've experienced the developer Tripwire at work and seen them take Killing Floor from a UT2004 mod to simple retail release and then render that release into something very special at no extra cost for what amounted to expansion pack updates. All the while, bug patches and game play balancing continued in the background making for a very solid game.

Based on that experience I expect no less for Red Orchestra 2 and that influenced my purchase. And true to form a flurry of recent patches are beginning to bring stability and order. I enjoy the full spectrum of FPS games going back to Halo where I first got the bug, through Star Wars Republic Commando, the Battlefields, CODs, F.E.A.R., and the list goes on. I love something about all of them and enjoy the eclectic diversity they bring to the gaming community. Of all the FPS I've played, Red Orchestra 2 is way up there on mission strategy and a sense of realia. The pace can be as sedate or 'run and gun' as you like and there's no sense of loss finishing with a low kill count as long as you've added to your team's task in hand. And what a task that can be!

All in all, I'm enjoying Red Orchestra 2 immensely. The player classes and weapons offer great variety and you can take a more laid back approach as a rifleman or lead a squad or the whole platoon. The environment is realistic and well researched as the experts in the Tripwire forum will attest. The Unreal Engine offers sound game physics and unique additions such as cover add to the already full arsenal of player movement. I've never needed sparkly larger than life graphics at the expense of quality game play and I'm glad that's the case in Red Orchestra 2. The game looks good but plays superbly and that's what counts I love the range of architecture with bombed out open areas and rickety covering to close fire fights in apartments.

Well done so far on Red Orchestra 2. It's going to be a classic and I have every reason to believe it'll continue to be supported well into the future. As with the first offering and Killing Floor, the community has its' set of modding tools and they will certainly be utilised.

I enjoyed how the mechanics worked in the single player campaign. The mechanics, without giving anything away, allow for full immersion into the perspective of a soldier, where: you are terrified, you are going to think tactically, and you are going to struggle to capture a location. Tripwire also did a wonderful job with making the game only cost around $30 if you already owned Red Orchestra 1 in the pre-order, and then $40 as the normal game's cost. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After waiting... what was it? 3 months? Yeah, let's say 3 months. Well, after waiting 3 months -the game (Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad) finally came out, and it was ready to be played! So therefore i installed the game, and when it was done, i started it...
Suddenly my screen turned all black, and some old 19th music started. Shortly after, the menu appeared, and i was available to choose which mode i wanted to play. Single player or multiplayer? -Because it was my first time playing, i picked single...
I picked the German mission... -since the Russian version couldn't be picked before you've completed the German version.
The mission started off with a single task..; I and my German army group was suppose to conquer some land from the Russian's. So i picked up my gun, and ran side by side with my squad against the Russian's. Already when i ran i could feel that this is going to be really intense. I ran up against a wall, to use it as protection. It made me feel safe. I fired some warning shot's against our enemies. -It feels so real firing a gun in this game! I heard Russians speak, so i took a peek and noticed a Russian running against me. So i aimed for him and shot him... But that's when i realise i'm the one laying down and dead... someone shot me just before i got the chance to shoot... That made me realise that this game means business!

I would have given the game; 9/10, but since there is so many bugs in the game, i pick to give it; 8/10 instead.

That said, the game itself is excellent. In terms of realism it puts any other World War II shooter to shame. The rifles are a bit too accurate it seems, but they are immensely satisfying to use. The cover system is well-designed for the most part, and very impressive to see in a multiplayer FPS.

I could do with some adjustments to the rules- it seems that every single game ends with the arbitrary capture of a point instead of the death of a soldier. The game could really use a "sudden death" for the defenders in Countdown and Territories so that the defenders get a chance to retaliate when their last point is taken by the enemy. It also seems that maps without attackers or defenders are decided by an arbitrary time limit, which is annoying.

Still, I feel like this is a worthy alternative to the COD and Battefield franchises. Now if only it would run well...

The atmosphere is great, you wince and duck as you hear and feel the bullets fly past you or strike home! After a successful couple of rounds as team commander barking orders, leading charges and calling artillery I was mentally drained as if I had done a hard days work (could just be getting old :) ) , which is a great feeling to get from a game. Staying alive seems to matter more to me in this game than any other fps. The game does have a steep learning curve, but it is worth the effort, one has to learn how each weapon operates to know how to use it to maximum effect. The game is a little more COD player friendly that its predecessor, however its definitely for more mature gamers.
Yes the game has bugs and crashes, however its still very early days and a raft of patches have been released and more to follow I don't doubt. Plus I can only count on one hand the number of games that have been released bug free on the PC in the last 5 years, unfortunately this is how the PC game development has been heading for the last few years, so no one should be surprised by this. For those prefer RO1, well I'm certain that mod's and game tweeks are just around the corner, RO1 was not perfect when released. Currently the weakest multi-player part of RO2 is the tank maps, the tanks do not feel quite right yet and the map is dull, once again though its only a matter of time before new updates and content will be released to address. Please don't buy this game for single player mode as this is just the multi-player maps with bots just like practice mode in RO1 but with story cut scenes between maps. This does not bother me as I never buy FPS for single player mode as they are generally scripted like a film and like shooting fish in a barrel (COD for example). So this game is not for every one, but for those that are into the history of WW2, who are mature, patient and willing to learn, this game is a gem.

Way back when Call of Duty 2 was released I was amazed by its multiplayer and have ever since been searching for a WWII fps experience to top what I got out of CoD2. When I discovered Heroes of Stalingrad I knew that it could very well be the game I'd been searching for, so I could hardly contain myself. When I entered my first game my graphic settings were on 'lowest,' as I just wanted to get a bearing on how my computer could run the game, and even on the low settings it looked beautiful. Don't listen to ANYONE who claims that this game looks anything other than great, as even sub-par settings will satisfy you.

Now for the gameplay. I'm going to say right now that if you're looking for another CoD:WaW you will be disappointed. Many people seem to have criticized HOS for being too similar to the CoD series, but as a gamer who never played Ostfront and switched over from playing Call of Duty games religiously this game is an incredibly refreshing change of pace. Yes, you can unlock attachments and guns and yes there are recon planes, but they are not what you'd expect. By "attachments" what the game actually means is that if you use the basic bolt-action rifle for one army for a long time (and I mean a LONG time) you can unlock a bayonet. Or if you're somehow lucky enough to be a squad leader over and over again you might just unlock a round-drum clip. As for the recon planes, they really only serve to help squad leaders spot positions for artillery, and for the basic rifleman all they will do is tell you that there is, in fact, an entire team of enemies roughly somewhere where you are not. NOW I will get on to the actual gameplay. When you join your first server you will almost definitely only be able to enter the battlefield with only a bolt action rifle and 2 grenades. And the next game. And probably the next game. In fact, I'd say overall you're bound to be a basic rifleman 50% of the time. Again, people used to CoD will hate this, but once you actually get immersed in the game you realize how fun it really is. There is nothing more exhilarating (and actually true to history) than being a pinned down Russian soldier laying down alongside 15 or so other soldiers trying to remember how many bullets are left in your gun, all the while being told by an officer that as soon as the smoke grenades go up you have to run directly towards the enemy fire that has you pinned down. Yes, as a rifleman your k/d spread will almost never be positive, but the fun of it is just that. You are simply one of the pawns in the battle, and your only options are to provide suppressing fire or attempt to overrun the enemy with sheer numbers. I could go on and on about each one of the many classes, but I should really move on.

Now for the reasons I didn't give this game a 10. There are 3 game modes, but you will only ever play one: territory. Of the entire community about 90% of the servers are territory only, and the other 10% never have a single player on them. Also, most of the servers with more than 20 players connected will have tanks disabled, which is something that I simply can't understand. I've only played a single game so far where tanks were allowed, and it honestly didn't change the gameplay that much, so I don't know what the point is in disabling them. These both ultimately serve to make the game more repetitious, which is a shame because the game was DESIGNED to have all these additional features that are simply ignored. And then there's the single player. If Tripwire had simply excluded single player I would have given this game a 9/10, but they decided to throw it in anyways. The solo experience is a joke. It feels like a bad demo for the original battlefield 1942. It consists of literally the exact maps and game modes you find online, but with about 1/3 of the intensity of multiplayer and downright awful AI. There is literally no reason to play it.

Overall this is a great game. It has some flaws, but from what I can tell all the initial bugs it got criticized for have been patched and the multiplayer experience is a blast. I recommend this to any gamer who has gotten bored of the CoD formula.

One of those games some will love while some others will hate it.
Slow and hard, this game pushes realism to the extreme and with that, asks for a lot of skills.
I play this game regularly since the release and I'm still learning. With very large maps and 32vs32 battles, each game you'll play is different. If realism is the first thing you look for in an online FPS, jump on this game

This game really works for me. Exactly how I like my FPS games. It's hard, you need to play smart, you will get frustrated and probably rage quit a couple of times in the beginning, but when you get the hang of it, it's just awesome and rewarding.

Room for improvement: graphics update would be awesome. Destructible environment.

Playing as the Soviets or Germans, you can join ragtag diehard players, ((who populate the few heavy traffic servers.)) in fighting tooth and nail for ground in virtual war torn stalingrad. Picture a scene, Amongst Rubble and torn steel, Sporadic gunfire popping in the distance, the guy next to you is bleeding out and crying for his mother. Soon, he is silent. You are alone.. Peer out a window, furtively, and immediately you are hit, screen fades to black. Overall the game hits all the right notes, and is a unique and thrilling, stressful and uniquely gratifying experience. The thinking man/woman's fps. As others have mentoned, the intial release was riddled with bugs and poorly optimized. Basically, a disaster. But curently it seems tripwire has ironed things out and are continuing to work on polishing this gem of a game. An ambitous game that succeeds more than it falls short. If you don't have the best rig, you can open up the hood on this one, as the unreal engine is quite tweakable, And there are guides and tips for performance tweaks online.

To answer all of those: yes. I recommend absolutely you give it your all. This to me, is the best an ArmA style game can ever get. I enjoy these types of realistic games, this one is basically dirt cheap and is as timeless as Call of Duty: World at War or Medal of Honor: Allied Assault if you still even play the latter lol.

For something of its price, literally below 5 Euro/US bucks? MORE Than worth it. You get: Pacific AND Stalingrad multiplayer campaigns, with populated servers 24/7, a very engaging and addictive leveling system for your guns and character, I just love it so much.

Co-operation with your team is very important, going alone may only be any good if you are flanking, but going with a team is still always better
Voice acting... I really like the voice acting, I like it that for once when an enemy/ally is shot, they make a sound, shoot them in the throat and they will choke on their blood, shoot them anywhere else and they may say random things, shoot them in the head and they will usually go silent
Only negative thing I give is something not everyone may have, but I have an AMD card, and the game is poorly optimized for me, in the GOTY edition I cannot sprint due to massive framedrops, many other people experience this so I blame it on tripwire for not optimizing the game for our cards

Overall, this game is one of the, if not the, most realistic FPS out there, I highly recommend to have a team of friends and communicate with each other, it's huge fun!
