The A.I. could use more brainpower, but the controls handle beautifully, and the graphics and sounds are stellar.
  2. Just when you think you have seen it all, here comes an Expansion Pack that more than doubles the original Game!
  3. The action is compressed and more intense than the regular game. But that compressed action, although more intense, means you'll zip through the single-player campaign in short order -- about 6 hours.

Its sheer brevity makes it a fleeting indulgence -- a change in scenery with exactly the same everything else.
  5. Embodies exactly what made the original such a treat to play - creativity and plenty of action... [But] some may view the single-player side as wanting, due to its very short completion time.

The level designs and objectives just aren't as clever and the game itself is rather short, even for inexperienced FPS players. [Jan 2003, p.118]
  7. The single-player campaign is dense, exciting, and only three-and-a-half hours long.

The new single-player levels are challenging without being impossible and break new gameplay ground without abandoning the things that made the original great.

Just about every piece of military hardware you see, from mortars to halftracks to 88's, can and MUST be used to get through a given mission. [Jan 2003, p.78]
  10. Perhaps the most helpful addition for single and multiplayer is the smoke grenade.
  11. The fun vehicle levels, tons of weapons, gun emplacements to use, and scripted, cinematic gameplay all show just how short the single player mode is, even if it's generally really good stuff.
  12. It's gonna be a short battle, so let's try to have a little fun before it's over.
  13. This is a hefty new multiplayer package, considering that this an expansion and you sometimes don't get 12 multiplayer maps in a regular full game. Frankly, it helps compensate for the fact that the single player campaign is so short.

It doesn't change anything gameplay wise, although it features new locations to fight on both solo and in multiplayer, as well as new weapons like my favorite the Sten. The solo missions are very short and you will spend around 2-3 hours trying to complete them depending on the difficulty setting you are playing on. There is one really hard and almost unfair mission where you are on a halftruck and you shoot at tanks, infantry, nebelwerfer and you are vulnerable to all of them since the health bar is not the one of the truck but yours. I used quicksave a lot to get past it at some points during my run but all in all I must have died 10 times tops. Another trick is to use the console to heal yourself but I didn't use it as I felt it wasn't that hard . I played the expansion on Normal. Gary Oldman reciting poems and letters before and after each mission is really good but not as much as Reznov in CoD but still a nice touch. It's a short and sweet treat for someone craving more of that Allied Assault gameplay... Full Review »
